Positive experience: This is my first driving school at 21+ years old. The instructors are great. it's pretty easy to schedule drives, but the price is pretty high. A lot of the online coursework could have been put together a lot better rather than really short sections on a dozen different pages to make it seem longer than it is. But maybe it was intended that way? I don't know. Either way, I feel mostly ready for the road test, and I am very grateful for A-1. Edit: I got my license. I don't remember my instructors name, unfortunately, but if you see this. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: The course work is easy, and understandable. Everyone complaining either sucks at driver or had no experience at all before driving with an instructor, instructor is very understanding and patient, but yes they do take the wheel when it is necessary. (Edit: got my license first try on the state road test)

Negative experience: We ended up having to hire a different driving school because my new driver didn’t learn what they needed to after completing the program. The online program seemed to emphasize the wrong aspects. It was focused on drunk driving, distracted driving, driving under the influence, etc, which is important. However, she seemed to know the exact statistics about accident rates instead of when to make a turn that you must yield for. A lot of the program was focused on the fear aspects, rather than repeating crucial elements of basic driving. The driving instructors took over the wheel and did the maneuvers for her and so she didn’t get to learn how to do them. We had one experience with a driver that came out of the car very stressed and talking about her own road rage, which intimidated and stressed out my teen. The stress reflected in her lesson. She would get frustrated easily and made my girl emotional and scared. The other driver seemed to just tell her that she was doing a good job when most of the drive consisted of driving straight and he handled the maneuvers for her. Overall, we just felt like the wrong elements were really honed in on and the important elements were glazed over. We know that online learning is difficult for some brains, we would have done in person if we could, however all the classes were months out, forcing her to learn on a computer. The driving instructors were unhelpful which led her to fail her driving test due to information she was never taught. During her last drive the instructor told her that she could pass the test, but that just wasn’t the truth.

A-1 Driving School

Hello Katie, Thank you for your feedback. Each summer in June we hold an in person class. Most students would rather do the coursework online. The difficulty with in person class is that students can't miss a lesson because they have to receive the content in each of the 9 lessons. Our online program is a great program. Only lesson 6 addresses drinking and driving. Our program by State regulation has to teach a long list of topics in order to be DMV approved. Which our program is. As for the instruction your student received in our vehicle, all our cars are equipped with cameras that video record the inside and outside of the car. We would like to review your students sessions. If you want to provide your students name we can review together the teaching that was offered. We want all our customers to feel like they received the training they paid for. Our system maps out the paths the cars take so we can track what the teachers are doing. We want to make sure students receive training in diverse traffic areas. I only show one student in our system with your last name. Their driving scores look good. A-1 can never guarantee an individual will pass a State Road Test. There are way too may situations that could possible effect that outcome. Our focus is to help them the best we can in the 6 hours we work with them. Students start at all different levels. As they improve our teacher will tell them they are doing a good job.
