Tom's Auto Driving School: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I had 8h online course, driving lessons and exam and very satisfied about the school. Teachers are good, all steps were easy and convenient.
Negative experience: Tom did teach me how to drive smoothly, but the overall instruction was low quality and not worth the price. He barely covered the rules of the road, and on my very first lesson, he just told me to start driving—what if I had never driven before? There was no walkthrough, no basic instructions, nothing. He is also very impatient. When he got annoyed, he put his hands on me, which was completely uncalled for and unprofessional. On the day of my test, I spoke with another student who told me he would pinch her thighs when he disapproved—absolutely unacceptable. For the price, I expected much better. I regret not choosing Fresh Green Light Driving School instead.
Negative experience: They are very disorganized and have a very rude receptionists! Especially during the class. Tom himself is a very discouraging driving educator. If you end up signing up for this school cuz there are no better driving schools in the area then just get someone else. In other cities people pay 40$ or so for each hour of education. Here you have to pay 85$ and I think that honestly they don't deserve it. If they charge so much money for one hour they should at the very least update their cars. It feels like I'm driving a wagon.
Fantastic experience: Tomfoolery’s driving school. He mentioned women’s doctor a LOT.
Negative experience: Tom was verbally abusive, even at one point making me pull over just to yell at me for asking if I should honk in a scenario. Completely ruined my driving experience for months afterwards as I expected a violent reaction at any mistake. If you want to take a test with a corrupt dmv official and leave your child as a worse driver and emotionally traumatized, Toms driving school is the place to be!
Fantastic experience: Great people / great instruction
Negative experience: Took classes with Tom and he gets mad very easily at the smallest errors and constantly degrades me while i’m driving and it made me uncomfortable. I keep making mistakes out of being nervous of his anger and he continues to get even more mad, and it’s really scary for a new driver. Linda was also the same way and gave me the worst attitude while I was driving and gets triggered very easily. I hope both of them can get help for the unprofessional behavior. I only took 3 classes here a few weeks back and then started classes in Norwalk and am much happier. Do not send your child here unless you want them holding back tears.
Negative experience: Tom was dangerously impatient and unkind. When asked for patience and clearer instructions, he screamed at my disabled child, saying people like that shouldn't be driving. Missing social cues doesn't make a bad driver, but a teacher who refuses to be flexible or give clear instructions will discourage vulnerable kids from pushing themselves to be independent and learn. The burden lies on the teacher to be professional and understanding, and to TEACH. I was deeply disturbed by the treatment & the way driving lessons were given, with no real structure or guidance. Trial by fire is a horrible way to teach!! Tom presents a serious danger to young drivers!
Negative experience: Tom driver needs psychiatric!!! Vey bad experience!!! I’m not recommending!!
Negative experience: Absolutely horrible. Went to learn to drive and Tom is just flat out awful. He is so impatient which is not okay for a new driver. He is very irritable and easily set off by little mistakes and rather by trying to get the student to learn from it he screams at them. I should not be told I won’t pass my test by the instructor and that I’m a horrible driver because I go to fast into a turn. A new driver needs to LEARN from their mistakes rather being verbally abused. I can whole heartedly say I learned nothing with Tom and he genuinely traumatized me. Please do not send your kids here. He is very very rude. He makes me and a ton of other people I know incredibly uncomfortable. Touching a teenage girls thigh and caressing their arm is not appropriate and nor is the yelling and verbal abuse. Learning to drive is very stressful and very important for the driver and those on the road. DO NOT go to Tom’s if you want a good confident driver.
Fantastic experience: Toms Driving School was amazing in helping me prepare for my driving test. We bought the package of 4 lessons that included the driving test at toms and 8 hr online class. Linda and Tom are both so nice and will teach you everything you need to know for your exam!
Fantastic experience: So happy with the service and driving instruction received through Tom’s. We found lots of mixed reviews when considering all the options but chose to go with Tom’s due to the flexibility of the online class instruction. Tom and Linda were great driving instructors who were friendly, patient, knowledgeable and polite. The ease of making (and changing) appointments and signing up for the test was wonderful.
Negative experience: Tom, needs help serious help
Negative experience: COMPLETELY verbally abusive, unprofessional behavior from “Tom.” There’s a reason prices are cheaper with this driving school - Instructor will attack the driver, degrade someone who is attempting to do their best, and ruin a new driver’s experience. He shoved our family member, and abruptly told her to leave the car at the end of the horrifying session. This man has a visceral temper - avoid at ALL costs.
Negative experience: We had an extremely poor experience here. They do a lot of “bait and switch” and are extremely dishonest about the process. Always with a hand out to get some extra money. Cars are in a poor state and testers aren’t qualified. My suggestion is to go elsewhere! Cheap is expensive. This place really underscores that quote.
Fantastic experience: Best driving school in CT! Learn with the best team!
Fantastic experience: I needed to renew my CT driver licence and took a few refresher classes with Tom to prepare for the road test. Passed the test first time thanks to Tom’s guidance. Tom has very deep knowledge of the road system since he has spent well over 40y teaching drivers. He can be tough, but listening to his advice helped me a lot!
Fantastic experience: Tom's is the best! Tom is a great guy and all of his instructors are amazing. I originally signed my older daughter up for Fresh Green Light and after I could not get any driving times worked for her I switched to Tom's. The office was easy to work with, they were flexible and the instruction was first-rate. Much better than Fresh Green Light and less expensive.
Negative experience: Poor service
Negative experience: I wish that I had checked the reviews before I decided to go here, then I wouldn't have gone there. Tom was extremely rude and impatient. How can you be a teacher and not have patience? He was not calm at all. This is someone that told me to "forget about the manual", uh, really?? This is the said manual that was organized and issued by the DMV. On top of that, the car was dirty and funky, even the windshield was dirty. When I told him about the windshield, he told me that it was hard to clean. Wha, wha, WHAT!!! He even to tried to shorten my time by some minutes,. I paid full price for 60 min so I expect to get 60 whole minutes, not 54 or 55 min. I wasted my time and money. I would NOT recommend anyone to go to Tom's Driving School.
Fantastic experience: I like this place, comfortable and very good atmosphere
Negative experience: I don’t recommend Tom’s driving school to anybody. My son has been left almost traumatized from his lessons. He does not want to drive any car and also has not been taught anything of value either (in regards to rules of the road). It’s completely disgusting that my son had SUCH a bad experience with Tom and didn’t even want to tell me about it until weeks after lessons ended. It makes me wonder what happened that he didn’t tell us... We expected my son to come out being ready and confident on the road and Tom has done the opposite, if he cannot work with children with patience please resign. Unacceptable customer service considering I expected a Greenwich school to be with high standards. This school may be convenient for anybody who wants to easily pass their test as I hear they pass almost everybody but if you want help to learn to drive don’t come here. If you need a recommendation, my girlfriend’s daughter went to Next Street in Stamford and LOVED it.
Negative experience: The lady at the phone was extremely rude. Her tone was harsh and she was very impatient. I felt she was doing me a favor talking to me. I felt horribel and had to hang-up decided not to use their services.
Fantastic experience: Linda and the crew are very sweet. They get the job done and strive to ensure that everyone learns the materials necessary to pass their test.
Negative experience: Price is reasonable & trainer is understandable. But trainer needs to be more calm. Today first time I drove manual transmission car & the trainer was rude from the beginning. He pushed me hard with his elbow once, when I made a mistake. I was nice enough to ignore his rudeness, & he never apologizes. Never send your young children to that school. Think twice before heading to that school.
Fantastic experience: I am very impressed with how fast My daughter learnt to drive with Toms driving school. Tom and Lindy have been teaching her with great patience and step by step process. There prices are also far more reasonable then the local competition.
