Positive experience: Two of my teens have taken drivers ed here (and one took their road test). Both kids loved Mr. K and always talked about how fun he made the lessons. I will say that it’s a pain in the butt to schedule the driving lessons as more than once I wasn’t able to schedule more than one lesson for the month as there were no appointments or the available appointments didn’t match what worked with our schedule

Positive experience: Great experience with top driver. Only issue is scheduling times for behind the wheel can be tough. But as long as you get online right at the designated date/time you’re okay. They do have many locations so you have some options. All the driving instructors were helpful and made my daughter feel comfortable. We paid for the middle package and happy we had the extra lessons. We did the driving test through top driver as well and glad we did it.

Fantastic experience: Very thorough comprehensive program. Happy with the service and treatment my daughter received at both the Lake Villa and Gurnee locations . She also completed her State drivers test with them at the Lake Villa location. Darin Mayer was the tester for that exam and was just as much an asset to their company. Negative experience: Driver is not very good at driving after taking the classes. 3+ accidents already please look somewhere else!

Fantastic experience: We had a great overall experience with Top Driver. While it is challenging to grab new drives middle of the work day we were able to get all the drives scheduled in the required time. Parent tip - Call and seeing if appointments are available as they aren’t always on the website right away and we were able to grab a few that way. Special thanks to Barry Bernstein - appreciate the time you take after each drive to provide the positive and constructive points as it really helps build the confidence in our new drivers!!!

Negative experience: Office always closed!
Our classroom locations are only open during class and behind the wheel driving lessons. There is a sign on the door that clearly provides our Customer Service information: the phone number, email and website. Positive experience: I initially had frustrations with their ability to make driving lessons available - i complained, and the issue was resolved. I recommend starting early on scheduling lessons if you go with Top Driver.

Negative experience: I used Top Driver for my other two kids and they were great. Now I would never recommend. You cannot schedule behind the wheel lessons because they don't have enough instructors. They only open behind the wheel lessons a month in advance. So on May 11th at noon they open for June lessons. So everyone under the sun is trying to login to get a date. But you can't get in for over 20 minutes of trying and when you do they are all gone!! Not to mention working parents trying to do this is problematic. Now you need to wait until June to schedule for July. You can only have 2 drives per month and need to complete in 9 months. I have been trying to schedule since March and not 1 behind the wheel lesson!!!! I would not use Top Driver! I reached out and told try on May 11th we will have dates opening at noon! Ha Ha
Ms. Covert, we are sorry that have not received the service that all our families expect. To allow all students equal opportunity to schedule their drives we do open the lesson blocks on a monthly basis. One drive every 15 days is also our rule to allow ample practice time in between lessons which is a very important part of our driver training curriculum. I believe you have since been contacted by our Regional Manager who was able to discuss your situation and rectify it to your satisfaction. Thank you very much for your patience during this time.
Fantastic experience: While their on-line scheduling system was difficult to manage at times Top Driver went above and beyond to help schedule driving lessons. Phone calls and emails were responded to very quickly and they were very accommodating. Given that they are short staffed and still behind from COVID they really did all they could to better a difficult situation.

As you noted we did have our share of IT issues which caused frustration for all involved but we have finally had those corrected. Our management and customer service teams have been working extremely diligently to ensure our families are taken care of and we have a good number of instructors in the training pipeline which is great news. Negative experience: Overbooked and poor scheduling. When they open the online behind the wheel scheduling for the next month you have about a 20 min window to book times before they are completely full. The staff was very nice and doing everything possible. As a company shame on you for collecting fees on services you couldnt fulfill in a reasonable time frame. I ended up requesting a behind the wheel refund and paying additional with another company. If you are struggling with scheduling look into other locations and a refund.
We are sorry that you did not get the service that our families deserve. Top Driver was hit by COVID in many unforeseen ways including having a great number of students who were eligible to drive yet chose not to attempt to schedule their behind the wheel lessons in a timely manner. Unfortunately this, along with the difficulty in hiring/training instructors found us with a backlog of students who completed their classroom with no problem but needed to schedule behind the wheel instruction. In order to provide additional behind the wheel lessons we did cancel classes and programs so that our instructor team could drive with our students. Our management team has also been in the field as much as possible.
We have hired new instructors who are in training throughout the company and will be ready to be in the field shortly (SOS mandated training is anywhere from 6-8 weeks at a minimum). We wish you the best in the future and hope that you and your family have a lifetime of safe, intelligent driving.
Negative experience: 1/27/2022 Edit to update** 2 weeks later and no return call from customer service. They still do not have the ability to fulfill their obligation to CURRENT Students and in car driving lessons. We'll be driving 60 miles away to get 1 of six lessons done which is ridiculous. RUN fast to a different school. Dealing with this company has been one the worst experiences. They will sell you driving packages that include on the road driving lessons, but neglect to tell you that scheduling those will be next to impossible. The portal they recommend you use (signals) is often down and their customer support is actually just a voicemail. Highly recommend you find a different company for your driver school needs.

We are very sorry that you feel you did not have the ideal classroom and driving program that we desire for all of our students. Without further information we are unable to access your account to review your situation and would appreciate it if you would contact Customer Service to share your thoughts and see what we can do to assist you. Negative experience: The classroom portion appears to be good. No complaints there. But good luck scheduling the actual driving lessons. The new dates are released on the 15th of every month. It is pretty much impossible to get logged in to the website at 8am when the new schedule goes live. And if you get in, when you click the link to schedule, you get "The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred." I did this for literally an hour and a half and never got to the scheduling page. And when I called during this time, your only option is to leave a message. All of the slots will be gone within the first hour or so. So I have no idea how I will get the required driving lessons before the required date. And I get to look forward to this rediculous process every month on the 15th. For this scheduling fiasco alone, I cannot recommend Top Driver.

We understand your frustration and yes, we are aware of the system overload and certainly have been working diligently to make upgrades and adjustments. Clearly our IT provider overpromised today and we are already working on a solution for the next month. Our Customer Service and Management teams are working as hard as they can to address all our families' calls and messages.
Unfortunately we had many, many students who did not schedule their lessons during their program timeframe and at that same time we had instructor hours available for scheduling that went unfilled. The current situation is due to these students realizing they need to finish their program at the same time as new students are just beginning. We obviously are also hiring new instructors as quickly as we can but with the "Great Resignation" it is more difficult.
Again we apologize for the situation, understand your frustration, and please hope that you know we are doing all we can to upgrade the system and provide the best instruction that we can for our teen drivers. Thank you.
