Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about A-1 Driving School:

Over three decades shaping Utah road safety

With more than thirty-five years of experience, A-1 Driving School stands as one of Utah’s most established programs for driver education. The school has built a reputation for combining rigorous classroom instruction with hands-on road training, ensuring students develop strong defensive driving habits from day one. Certified instructors guide learners through a structured curriculum that adapts to both teen students and adults seeking their first license or a license upgrade.

Comprehensive training formats: Online modules, traditional classroom sessions, and private behind-the-wheel practice are all available.
Focus on defensive techniques: Lessons emphasize real-world scenarios to build long-term road safety.
Flexible pathways: Students can complete coursework at their own pace before advancing to practical exams.

Experienced instructors tailored to student comfort

What consistently draws praise is the dedication of the teaching staff, many of whom have built loyal followings among local families. Instructors such as Marcus, Rodney, Shawn, Daniel, and Margene are frequently highlighted for their patience, clear explanations, and ability to keep nervous learners calm. The program emphasizes personalized coaching, with teachers providing constructive feedback and practical tips for skills like parallel parking and smooth merging. Small class sizes further allow educators to track individual progress and adjust their approach accordingly.

Patience with beginners: Instructors prioritize stress-free environments to help new drivers build confidence.
Targeted skill development: Hands-on drills focus on common test requirements and everyday driving challenges.
Adaptable teaching methods: Lessons are tailored to individual learning speeds and prior experience levels.

Organized booking system for high-demand periods

The school’s driving schedule is managed through a centralized online portal, which helps maintain consistency across locations. During peak academic terms, demand often exceeds immediate availability, but the program offers practical solutions for students who encounter full slots. A waitlist feature notifies learners of open appointments, while a call-and-cancel queue ensures that last-minute openings are distributed fairly. Staff members remain available by phone to assist families in navigating the scheduling process and finding the most convenient time slots.

Proven track record for first-time success

Many students complete their training and pass their road tests within a few weeks of starting, particularly when they stay on a consistent practice schedule. The program’s modular online courses provide foundational knowledge that complements classroom learning, making it a popular choice for homeschoolers and busy families. Graduates frequently note that the combination of theoretical study and supervised driving practice leaves them fully prepared for the licensing exam. With a focus on safety, clear communication, and structured progression, the school continues to serve as a trusted resource for Utah drivers at every stage of their journey.

Negative experience: Extremely difficult to schedule driving times, especially for a high school student who is in school when the drive times go online. Wasn't able to complete all the drives in the necessary timeframe

Hello Sheila, Sorry you have had difficulty scheduling. Have you called our office? Because, we do have a call/cancelation list that we can add your student to. There is also a waitlist option in the students Drive Time account that will email them anytime we have a cancelation or opening. All Winter and Spring students have been completing within 2-4 weeks. Now that summer is here and there is a high demand we have let our customers know to expect longer than normal completion time. If your student has completed all the coursework and has logged in two weeks on schedule day around 10 Am we can add them to the call/cancelation list. Any family member or friend can log in for the student at schedule time. Thank you A-1

Positive experience: The teachers are hit or miss. There are some good ones. The schedule do fill up quickly so it is not easy to find instructors. The worse thing is their online course work. The lessons are broken down into too many small segments so it takes unnecessary long to go through them and too many clicks by hand. The lessons keep repeating the same content. I’d rather see shorter content and replay the same lesson than meandering through endless number of lessons, some useful and some are not. Some are literally two sentences. Worse, between segments, an obnoxious tone is played repeatedly. It is constantly ringing in my head. It is terrible. I try to give positive vibe I review but this tune that is played repeatedly is really too much. It is not professional and the lesson needs to be edited down to reduce duplication and blank air times with no content, and to reduce the need for me to click on my computer

Negative experience: This place is terrible. I have only been able to schedule one drive and have been trying to get another drive for almost 5 months now. You have to log in EXACTLY at 10 am on Wednesdays and refresh the driving schedule every minute (this is what they told me to do) for a chance of getting an appointment. One week I was at work and wasn’t able to log in exactly at 10 and i logged in a 10:04 and they told me I logged in too late. It’s so inconvenient and they only schedule one week at a time. The one drive that I did get, they were really rude when I told them I paid for these classes to learn how to drive. They told me that they don’t teach you to drive in this course and it’s just for practice. The whole time the instructor was really laid back and not teaching me anything. This class is not worth the $400 you spend !! Save your money !

Negative experience: Horrible. You have to schedule the drives through their website at 10am on Wednesdays. I have been on their website for 8 weeks at exactly 10am and have not been able to get a single drive scheduled at any time. I have spoken with them numerous times and they are very kind on the phone but very unhelpful. I have been on the waiting list for EVERY location and none have been available. They will refund me the driving portion of the bundle but are still charging me $150 for the online portion. I would not have signed up with them if I knew I could only do the online portion. Now, I will only get a $20 discount with Wright Driving School for having completed the online portion or I will need to pay the full fee for going with the public school. This has been a huge wast of my time, stressful, and very expensive for what we got.
