Fantastic experience: Can't say enough good things about united.the instructors are all excellent at their jobs.after completion of the course they don't push you to the DMV .if you don't feel ready ,they give you extra time in the truck. for me I had issues double clutching.Shifting a manual car is totally different from a semi.while they will go out of their way to make sure you pass the DMV you have to do your part by listening and follow their suggestions .While they also have automatic trucks I was never pressured to go that route, even though it would of been easier for them(and me).

Fantastic experience: I loved it! I'm prior service military and a handful of the instructors are also. The classroom instruction in the first two weeks was great; Dave is very informative and has an excellent style of delivery sharing the required information. They also have a simulator to prep for the truck yard. The last two weeks spent at their truck yard is when it gets real. What an experience driving vehicles this size. I primarily dealt with Ted, Jarrod, Sean and TC. They all have their own way of sharing information and providing training and that was perfect in helping you understand a topic. I totally recommend. Side Note: If you're a "thin-skinned" individual or you get your feelings hurt or are easily offended, you probably want to re-think coming here. These men have years of experience so if they're giving you correction, just take it! They know their stuff and are there to help. All you have to do is shut up, listen, ask questions for clarification, act on the information then wait/ask for feedback. I have zero experience with a tractor trailer and not only got my CDL permit in the first week, after I completed the 4-week course, I passed my test on 3/17/2025 and am now the proud owner of a Class "A" CDL. Excellent course - Thank you "United." April 4, 2025: Today is my first day with a Driver Mentor at May Trucking Company

Fantastic experience: Owner and office staff are very helpful and caring. Definitely give/teach you the information you need to be a safe truck driver and mostly importantly to help you get your cdl like I just got. Truck yard instructors are caring and very knowledgeable, great personalities, all have deferent ways of teaching so you get different perspectives on learning and it’s all correct. I didn’t get to work much with all instructors for the skills part but with the ones I did get to work with the most was Jarrod and Julian and both were very helpful and knowledgeable to learn from. I’m sure the other instructors are the same as well. Had lots of fun learning here, definitely recommend!

Negative experience: I had a horrible experience with UNITED DO TO INJUSTICE AND DISCRIMINATION AS A WOMEN OF COLOR, I WAS ROBBED OF THE PROPER TRAINING TO OBTAIN MY CLASS A'S, ITS A BUSINESS OF FAVORITISM, AND RACIALLY UNFAIR ...

Negative experience: Worst Trucking School Ever I paid nearly $7,000 for this trucking school, and it has been a complete disappointment. The classroom instruction was decent, but things quickly went downhill when we moved to the yard where the trucks are. The conditions are appalling: the trucks' air conditioning barely works, making it unbearably hot, and the practice road is so dusty and full of holes that it's nearly impossible to focus. While the staff are amazing and do their best under the circumstances, the overall conditions are unacceptable. The bathrooms are in poor condition—there's no place to wash your hands, so everyone ends up using the restroom and then getting into the trucks without proper hygiene. This is especially unsanitary and unpleasant. Additionally, they provide water in the classroom, but there’s nothing available on the yard, which makes the already tough conditions even worse. Instead of spending so much time on the yard during the hottest parts of the day, it would be better if we were driving more and actually learning the skills we’re paying for. Overall, for $7,000, the quality of instruction and the condition of the facilities are far below expectations. I really wish I had done more research before enrolling. I wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone, especially women, as the environment is simply disgusting.

Negative experience: Don’t ever think about this horrible “school “.

Negative experience: I was a student here from Nov of 2023 to Dec 2023. If you don't know anything trucking, DO NOT under any circumstances whatsoever come to this "school" if you can avoid it. I truly wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy. I did not earn my CDL from here and trust me it wasn’t from a lack of trying, but because I was not ready to do my DMV driving test after entrusting this school to train me properly. Classes are beyond disorganized whether it was instructors clashing several times a day due to differing methods of doing things or heck because instructors wanted to have a random phone break in the middle of instructing at the oddest times. Moreover, the admin staff and especially the yard supervisor (Vee Lampkin) they are just also all around the most horrendous and neglectful people you'll meet they WILL be disrespectful towards the honest learner especially if you are not getting the concept at first, the instructors will find a way to go off on you like maniacs for not getting it right when you're paying them to learn. It happened to me and several others. I really only got my CDL because of myself and ultimately going to a different school because I didn't get taught a thing at United, but if you pass with your CDL from here they'll definitely take the credit for all the work the student did, but if not they’ll just toss you aside and pocket your money. United if anything deals more in quantity rather than quality in the sense that everything was so rushed moving you from one “skills phase” to the next rather than truly caring if the student understood the concept or not. They enroll so many students that it was beyond difficult to get scheduled for classes and even to catch up on behind the wheel time for the active students going through their initial yard weeks which is only 2 because you waste the first 2 weeks getting talked at and watching old videos that have NOTHING TO DO with what you’ll be tested on at the DMV. And oh, how could I forget, they also have a trucking simulator that students get to barely use because they are so worried that a student may ‘break it’, but the recruiter will bring it up to you as to justify you spending your money here AND you’ll get to see every instructor use it doing there break time but damn you if the student tries. After my last class I had to wait over a month to take my CDL driving test. They still pushed me to take it after poorly training me and the result at the end was predictable which shows how ethical they are. I then enrolled at Felipe's Truck Driving School and in only a few QUALITY weeks with caring instructors I got my CDL AFTER I unlearned ALL the horrible habits taught here at United. Because the instructors here at United kept rushing me and telling me i should just quit, which did not help the situation. One in particular, where one of the instructors (I’ll let you guess), had no tact and made a comment to the effect of I'm better than everyone else you better listen to me like he actually "knew something" and would just shake his head and make the dumbest snide comment like he was in high school, he really tried to make me feel less than when I made an honest mistake and instead of honestly just teaching me he'd run his suck, but I guess he’d rather be stuffing something into his fat suck, and ultimately how he's an instructor allowed on the yard and not in a cage at a zoo or mental institution is beyond me. All in all, I have more terrible experiences I could easily cite from this nightmare experience (but there's a character limit). Overall it was a complete waste of time and energy which I'll never get back. Everyday at United felt like I was working against myself. A lot of people are relying on this ‘school’ for their future careers to put food on the table and I feel like they could ultimately care less cause again you’ve paid in full just to start at united regardless if you pass or not they’ve got theirs but the ultimate question is will you at the end get yours.

Fantastic experience: The best school you could go to I got my CDL on the first test at the DMV and before I went to United I knew absolutely nothing about Trucking or driving any commercial vehicles Phil makes sure you pass your permit test and Vee and the rest of the guys in the yard make sure you pass your driving test thank you guys couldn't ask for anything better highly suggest this school

Fantastic experience: United Truck Driving School is your best choice if you're seeking your Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Gary is an excellent in class instructor, with a step by step teaching style with helpful broken down, on-point CDL study guides! Vee is also an excellent driving instructor who shares a lot of his years of CDL work experience by matching the in class instruction, straightforward, and very positive! United helps you become a professional driver to get you prepared to pass! Study hard, you got this! Give it your best and don't give up! I recommend this school, highlight your study guides and study materials, and listen to their top-notch driving instructors!

Fantastic experience: My honest review! I got my Class A CDL through United Truck Driving School. I visited the office and met with Phil. He explained the program to me and was very honest with me. He told me it’s not easy a lot of studying will be involved even after class. The first week of class I didn’t think I was going to even get my permit, lol. Quinn the in class instructor was great! I kept at it and studied hard each night and passed all written test and endorsements on the first try! The 2nd week in class is very important he teaches theory, air brakes, and pre-trip inspection. Make sure you take it very serious and learn those things as much as possible before going to the yard for behind-the-wheel training. The 3rd week you start driving the trucks. #1 rule is to listen to the instructors. I had Andre, Dino, and Eric for driving on the road. Shawn and Todd for backing maneuvers. Let me tell you they all have different styles of teaching! Don’t take how they teach personal, absorb the knowledge and apply it! They all want us to be safe and pass our CDL. Week 4 it starts getting easier! My first try I failed the DMV test. The second time around I passed! They got me 2 test in 1 week amazing. United Truck Driving School will help you get your CDL from point A to B. Trust the process! Just take one day at a time. So many opportunities for jobs now! Just don’t know which one to take. They also have lifetime job placement! Thanks United!

Positive experience: The instructor needs more control of class . He allowed students to go completely off topic, and there are way too many side convos to focus . Most time you only get to drive on the road once per day . Trainers don’t always help if you are struggling which leads to frustration . They have 5 trucks and 3 trainers . They try to prepare you to pass the test, but not for daily over the road driving ! But I did pass my test on the first try so it was definitely worth the money ! The instructors/trainers are very kool cats .

Christian Nguyen 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Best school hands down! I don’t know how they train people at other schools but this school goes out of their way to make sure you learn all that you can in the short amount of time that’s given and they go above and beyond to root for you and make sure you get your CDL as far as staying late to give extra lessons and also one one coaching. The instructors here are dedicated to their craft!

Fantastic experience: I recently finished and completed my CDL Class B training and school with United Truck Driving School. Just need it to say that from the beginning, when I walked in to the school and spoke with the recruiter (Phil) and the warm receptionist (Sarah) whom they treated me like a friend and all the way through the Covid 19 ordeal, they were extremely professional, friendly, caring about me and all the students. They took ownership of my problem of being a bit sick and let me take time off to get well and get back in to the program which me and my fellow classmates all completed. Gary which is a placement job recruiter helped us with new leads for jobs and kept us informed when new opportunities came up and directed us through the criteria of the jobs. At the yard, Anthony, Jerry and Eric and Moses, truly looked after us and made sure that we feel comfortable to ask any questions. Speaking for me, i can really say that during my experience at United Truck Driving School, I was Protected,I was Corrected and I was Directed every step of the way. 100% recommend this school to any upcoming Drivers, A or B class to don't get distracted by other companies whom might be a bit cheaper but really look at the UTDS from prospect of inside classrooms and the professionalism of the staff and the great reputation they have in Trucking driving school industry. You can not go wrong with this school.

Fantastic experience: I researched all the CDL schools from Riverside to San Diego and chose United Truck Driving School. The staff is a library of knowledge in book study, skills and on the road. If you need help in any area of training they are patient and extremely professional in helping you through all the processes. I passed the permit, air brakes, pre-trip, skills and behind the wheel my very first time, which was only because of the training I received from United. They made sure I was over prepared and confident before I tested. I currently have multiple job offers for both local and out of state company's. If your looking to get your Class A or B license, I would highly recommend United Truck Driving School. Thank you Phil, the staff and all the instructors for everything, its very much appreciated.

Positive experience: United has good dedicated instructors and support staff. Getting your CDL A is not easy and my instructors spent their own personal time to get us up to speed on skills. It took 2 attempts for me to pass driving at DMV with some disappointment on feeling like I could have passed on the first attempt with better clarification at the DMV lot in regards to alignment to start maneuvers. I also strongly think there should be a 3 person limit to a truck. Four people training out of one truck with one of the four lagging far behind was not effective. Bottom line is being a professional driver is earned, NOT a given and United will teach you the industry and how to drive and pass the rigorous DMV tests.

Negative experience: Very very unprofessional.. i came in yesterday to enroll in class A CDL classes. Upon entering i would have to admit they have a very professional looking classroom and building set up. Sarah is very nice and i feel she does her job quite well and handles things in a very nice, calm, and professional manner. However, our problem begins with the admissions person, Reggie. As im signing and filling out paperwork i was handed various documents that could have contained other persons social security numbers, things went fine but Reggie seems very scattered and unprofessional about how he approaches incoming students which caused me some concern as it seemed he didnt know what he was talking about. That got me thinking that i should read up on what the local consensus was about United Truck Driving School here in San Diego... what i found was that people feel that this school only cares for how much money enters their pockets and thats where the compassion ends so i decided that i would be cancelling my enrollement and trying out other programs. I gave them a call this morning to let them know that i would be cancelling my enrollment. Now, when i asked Reggie if there was any way we could verify that the documents containing my social security number and a copy of my birth certificate will actually be destroyed he became very upset with me, before i could ask to make sure i dont owe any moneys i was hung up on by Reggie. I will now have to drive a half an hour just to ensure my personal information is actually going to be destroyed properly. Dont waste your time here... Reggie is running a very sketchy operation with the manner in which he handles other individuals vital information like social security numbers.

Fantastic experience: Made me rethink about the way I drive and opened my eyes to the benefits of safe driving habits both professionally and personally. Now when I see erratic drivers cut me off, I no longer have the urge to follow them home, drive by their house and study their work schedule, and slowly drive them insane by moving their furniture around when they're not home. I now have more time to work on my tunnel.

Their problgram is designed to help to obtain your CDL and endorsements. All real life questions will be answered when you start your career with whatever company you choose. Classroom instruction is informative. Everything on your practice exams are directly related to the CDL permit test. Memorizing Q’s &A’s works best for me. The behind the wheel is fun and exciting. Negative experience: I got my CDL in 2006 and recently returned for a Refresher Course. The cost $3000 and a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. The way the school schedule is setup there isn't really any place for a Refresher Course. The first time students come first and the refresher students get what's left over. Example we were practicing a skill and the instructor said to my group "I want everyone to do it one more time before we move on" but when it came to my turn (which last of course) he came out and told us we were moving on to the next skill. I really feel ripped off!!

Positive experience: School here is ok, they have 1 old buss that can get you the license its automatic so it's easy, i personally did the A/P cdl option and paid more, the recruiters name is Reggie and he is the one to go for pricing and seting up, he may know a little of how the school actually works but it's not as easy as you think, he wont tell you this is a hard course, I did 2 weeks of in class training in which our group just studied for the written exam, it can be a little stressful if you don't study a bit, but if you study it's a piece of cake, i feel they should do less time invested in the in class material and concentrate on giving people more time behind the wheel, but ill get to that soon, then you get 2 weeks to practice driving and skills, they have 2 manual trans trucks and 1 automatic, i Highly suggest that if you dont know manual transs you should practice before taking the course and see some videos about double clutching because its still allot different than a regular cars manual transs, anyways i picked manual and my time ran out, once your time for school runs out it will become harder for you to schedule practice time because they always have new groups coming in, what i did since i failed my first two tests (1.Skills) then (Driving) i asked them to schedule me on the automatic truck because if you fail a third time you have to start everything again and that includes the permit and its payments, which the school wont cover, so you will be on your own if you fail, but since they have that automatic truck it's possible to use the third try con that truck, because not every person can pass it on the manual, that's just my advise, its a fast paced class so you will have to use your time at home if you want to graduate before your 4 weeks in school run out. I still think its a good school, the instructors and staff do their best and even tho they need to shorten the classes they are all very good at what they do, the reason i say shorten the classes is because some people may take more driving time in your group and that affects everyone on time and practice, the more you drive the better your odds, my group was of 5. 3 of us has passed, So it's passable, but not easy.

Negative experience: Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone trying to get any type of training. These people are more concerned about tuition than they are about helping people to get their licenses. Very unprofessional. I would definitely consider something else but hey, its your money.

Fantastic experience: To "United", I thank you all for your commitment helping me succeed in obtaining my "Class A". Took my test Thursday Oct. 12th 2017 passing with ease on my first attempt. Struggled learning the "Shifting Process", however with lots of patients, proper direction and guidance from my instructors prior to testing, I completed my testing with the DMV Instructor complementing my driving skills to say she was extremely impressed, and one of the smoothest test drive she's had. I've had the pleasure to be trained by several of their instructors "Phil, Ray, Anthony", and will say each of these individual's are committed in their training process for their students to succeed. Special Thank You to my Instructor Anthony for staying after hours on several occasions with fellow classmates to follow up with our individual challenges. Thank You Anthony for your additional time and enjoyed our time spent together. To the Truck Driving Training Operation Supervisor Damon, Thank You for your accommodation. Honestly, I owe you my success and deeply thank you and appreciate you. Ladies and Gentlemen, I can't say enough how grateful I am to these individuals at "United Trucking" for their love and passion for all to succeed. If your looking to obtain your "Class A", It'd be foolish to look at any other school to secure your future. I will say this, started applying the day I received my "Class A" at local job opportunities on Craigslist which required 1yr of driving experience, and with my recent training at "United Trucking", several were willing to make a exception with several job offers. "3 DAY'S LATER" I excepted a local job, and now enjoying the Highways of Heaven. Move forward and get "United" with these individuals for SUCCESS! Thank you "United Trucking School" for helping me succeed to start this New Chapter in life. JR

Fantastic experience: The team at United is awsome!!! Starting with Reggie , he is straight forward and is not there to sell you on anything. Be ready to learn! The classroom teachers Phil Harris and Gary go above and beyond to get you trained. Then you have the 4 yard trainers Ray, Angel, Damien and Jorge who is the yard manager. These dudes are constantly teaching you the driving skills and answering any questions I had. I failed on my first attempt at the DMV skills test(it was my fault due to being nervous) but Jorge went out of his way to get me rescheduled the following day and I passed with no mistakes. My phone literally is blowing up from employers trying to hire me now that I have my class A!! I'm so stoked and feel invincible, no more unemployment for me☆☆☆ P.S I noticed someone below on this thread (Sinan& Aarron) gave a bad review....these dudes obviously didn't even take the class so why is are they even commenting. Yes there are cheaper classes but you get what you pay for!!

Negative experience: Has all the bells and whistles, but not the best truck driving school in San Diego. When you go down to the Mission Valley office to sign up...you will be awed by the nice office space and classroom setting. But please do your research before choosing the school that's best for you.

Positive experience: I used United Trucking School as a crutch when I separated from the military. I was at a crossroads in deciding on becoming a firefighter or continue doing what I did in the military. With that being said, United helped me pass all test at the DMV and they have a 100 percent job placement after finishing the course. I'd say if you are looking for a carrier change or needing to make some fast money look into this program.

Fantastic experience: I want to thank United Truck Driving School for providing me with the knowledge and experience I needed to pursue my new career as a Truck Driver. United made it possible for me to obtain my Class A CDL, including all of the endorsements, in as little as 4 weeks! The first 2 weeks were spent in a classroom. Our instructor, Mitch, had a year of truck driving experience and had also become a trainer at one point in his career, so he was very informative when it came to answering any questions we had about the trucking industry. The time spent in the classroom consisted of reading, studying, taking tests, watching videos and some hands on experience with an actual truck right outside of the school. This is all used to help you obtain your permit so you can move on to the 2nd part of the course, the driving part. The remaining 2 weeks are spent at the yard. This is where you'll actually learn how to drive a truck. The class will get split into 2 or 3 groups, reason being is because 1 or 2 groups will be out driving around town, while the remaining group will stay in the yard practicing for their Skills Tests. My group had Eric as the instructor, he was extremely patient, provided us with great tips, and answered any questions we had. He was also good at pointing out what we were doing wrong and how to correct it. The other instructors also seemed determined to help their students, but because all of our time was spent with Eric, I can honestly say that anybody who ends up in his group will be in good hands. I'll admit, when I first approached Reggie, the Admissions Counselor, I wasn't exactly sure if this was going to be the school for me. However, after meeting with him, I didn't even bother visiting any of the other schools in the area. He was very friendly and made a great first impression on the school's behalf. In fact, once he explained everything the school would provide, I knew this was the one. One last thing I forgot to mention was that the school even brings in recruiters from some of the big trucking companies (Swift, Werner, May, Schneider) to talk to the class and answer any questions you have. So, there you have it. United doesn't just help you get your Class A license. They also help you get your endorsements and, most importantly, they provide you with job opportunities. What more could you ask for?

Positive experience: I don't give 5 out of 5 so a 4 out of 5 is awesome. United Truck School is actually located at 2425 Camino Del Rio S #250, San Diego, CA 92108. I got my CDL A/P, started on 18Nov2013 and finished 18Dec2013. The two weeks in the classroom you learn how to do a pretrip inspection and the gears you need to be in and your air brake test. Some students wanted to see what parts they were talking about since they have never done it before which I could see why they would. The second two weeks you are doing skills and driving. When you go to the CDL course you do your Pre-Trip Inspection then you do your air brakes and your in-cab inspection. Once you finish that you do three skills that are fairly simple as long as you did what you practiced, don't get nervous and think about what your going to do before you do it. Then you do your road test, which you already know how to up and downshift and what gear to be in to take a turn and take turns wide of course. I had Eric as my teacher on the road and he was awesome, unfortunately two other students in my truck got nervous at the DMV CDL course and that messed them up. If you do what they teach you, not get nervous, and think about what you are going to do before you do it then you will get a CDL. If you are using your GI Bill like I did or just getting a CDL do the P. For $500 you get the passenger endorsement, it opens a lot more jobs and is easy after you drove a tractor/trailer. I trained for one day on the bus which is awesome, a 1979 5spd, it is old school and get you the P endorsement on your CDL.

Fantastic experience: Wow! I needed a new career and now I have one! Easier than I thought it would be. My instructors really seemed to know what to say to us to help us pass the tests at the DMV. I had a few issues but with a little patience I was able to work through them and get my CDL. And I had several companies offer to hire me while I was still in school. The hardest part might have been deciding where to go to work! Probably luck of the draw but the other guys in my class were great too. All in all, great experience.
