Fantastic experience: Easy and efficient. Completed a 2 hour driving session and the next day completed the road exam at the DMV. $198 Great experience. Would do it again or recommend to my kid.

Negative experience: I called and asked about the driver class and the rude man told me there’s no such thing and hung up in my face

Negative experience: I gave 2 stars because the classes are very reasonably priced, and booking online was a breeze. If you care about customer service and professionalism and order, though, go elsewhere. I received a call from the Admin this morning - which is 3 days after I booked my first class and less than 24 hours before my session - telling me I still needed to send my permit and payment. I had received no info ahead of time to do these things nor a confirmation of any of my 4 appointments via email, phone, or text, so her sense of urgency made no sense to me. I could barely understand her, and she was rushing me. She rushed me off the phone and said she'd just text me a confirmation. I was on the train and dealing with voting in the election. The first text I got was for my permit. I had a picture on my phone already from surprising my husband, so I immediately sent it. I then got the payment text. She called back to see if I could come in at 8 instead of 10, but I couldn't because I have to drop my daughter off at preschool. I then told her I was sending the payment then. I got caught up with the train and voting, so I didn't hit send on the Zelle. I got a text saying my class was canceled. Why not call me back like you did before? I called immediately and asked why I was declined. She said because I didn't send payment. I told her that I had just talked to her less than 2 hours ago and told her I was sending it. She said, "Yeah, but you didn't." I explained that I'm in the middle of voting. She didn't care. There was no grace. I said, "I wasn't aware there was a deadline." Crickets. If you see the photo attached, it tells you when you book that payment is due AT APPOINTMENT. I just told her to go ahead and cancel the rest of my appointments. I don't want to do business with people who are highly stressed like this. I was really excited to finally get my driver's license. This killed my enthusiasm a bit. Update: I am now reducing my review to 1 star due to the reply I received - telling me to read the policy, while supporting the terrible service and ignoring the screenshot of their site with the instruction of payment being due AT APPOINTMENT. I don't know if they just added the "policy" since my review, but they don't even honor their own "policy". I scheduled my appointments on November 2nd. If the policy at the time was to pay within 24 hours after scheduling, why wasn't I declined until November 5th then? Seems like they just can't fix the error about the payment being due AT the appointment because it's still there to this day. Anyway, I found another school that was 5 stars across the board and got my driver's license on November 22, 2024. I'm happy I was forced to find another school.

Fantastic experience: This school is very good and my experience has been smooth. Ben (Instructor 2) is excellent with great communication and easy to get along with. He is also very knowledgeable and I have learned practical skills that only come from years on the road in a short amount of time thanks to Ben. He was also kind enough to be patient during a hiccup on test day with the appointment center that caused a delay of nearly two hours. Nevertheless, I passed the test on my first attempt thanks to his excellent teaching even though I was quite agitated due to the situation. The office lady Michelle is also incredibly helpful with any questions.

Fantastic experience: I got my license in less than two weeks with the beginner's package (8-hrs + road exam). I initially felt nervous about driving but thanks to Instructor Leo Li (Instructor 3), I passed the road exam on my first try! Overall, the course felt very efficient. Instructor Li will teach you everything you need to know to pass the exam. During my last two lessons, we went to the test site and practiced several rounds. Mr Li was very patient with me; he let me know of any mistakes and corrected me with helpful tips. His calm demeanor helped me gain confidence in my driving. One thing to note is that the beginner's package does not include the expressway since that is not covered on the exam. Regardless, Instructor Li was kind to let me drive several times on the highway to 95th St and back, and I'm very grateful to him for that. Other positive points include, the free pick-up and drop-off service (on the day of the exam as well), and the very kind lady who helped schedule all my classes. I recommend visiting or calling the office to schedule all your classes in one-go instead of using the website, which I thought was a little confusing.

Negative experience: This service is highly rude and disrespectful I don’t recommend wasting your money on here don’t even give them the time of day wasting my time without any logical reason; Getting on my phone yelling at me when I’m the one paying for my class with my money but I doubt this service has any thing to offer or anything to give in the first place.

This is a rare business that genuinely cares about students' success and safety, beyond just passing the test. I got my driver's license today on my first attempt, and it took me only two weeks to complete the course. I went from being a complete beginner to a safe driver. Mike and Michelle were amazing support throughout my journey, and I felt so thankful to them that I cried after receiving my license. I had been too scared to drive for 10 years, and without Citizen Driving School, I would never have been able to become this confident and safe driver in such a short amount of time. Mike is the instructor you can trust, and if you follow his instructions, you WILL become a safe and confident driver. He is extremely detailed and experienced, watching and correcting every maneuver you need to make, unlike some of my previous experiences with other schools where the instructors just sat next to me in silence. Because driving is dangerous and just one mistake can cause serious injury or death, Mike will be tough on you to ensure you don't get into an accident. Just like parents who are harsh with their children when it comes to safety, he will show tough love, but in the end, you will know that he is a rare gem who actually cares and remembers the progress of every single student he has had. I feel so thankful that I had the opportunity to learn from Mike, and he laid the foundation for my safe driving. Michelle was supportive not only in administrative matters but also in encouraging and believing in me. I was extremely nervous, but she always told me I could do it and not to worry, providing many tips about the exam. She is an expert in scheduling and managing--she doesn't just schedule anything but strategically helps you plan your journey so that you learn driving in the most efficient timeline. This business deals with safety, so they don't babysit you but will show tough love, all to ensure you don't get into an accident and get hurt. Fantastic experience: I learned with Mike / Instructor 4 in February, and I went from zero to 100. I relied on the CTA for a long time, and I wasn't able to take driver's ed when I was younger. I decided to get my license at 30. I developed a lot of anxiety over the years about it, so I signed up for the 12-hour ("extremely nervous") course package. I took two-hour classes at a time, one to three times a week, so the whole process took about three weeks for me. It helped to keep my courses close together like that, but they are flexible to what you can afford/plan for. You're gonna feel like you're putting in the work for sure. It can feel like Mike is being tough on you, but imo he is your biggest supporter and you'll realize that by the end. He'll be soft when you need it (I was very anxious at the beginning, and he eased me into it), and he'll be tough love when you need it because, if you're a beginner, he is trying to set you up to drive for the rest of your life (and he's doing it on these city streets), not just pass the test... which, I did on the first try after never driving on a street three weeks before. My road exam tester even told me "You're an awesome driver" before I got the license I waited 15 years to get! The most important part though was that I actually felt set up and secure to drive solo for the first time after, and onwards.

Negative experience: I dropped my husband off for driving school and picked him up in less than an hour. Then I found out that they didn't even have him driving on the main streets, just around the block for less than an hour, turning around in circles..Definitely not worth the money at all because we could have done the same thing right outside of our house! What a waste of $45! Definitely not pleased!

Negative experience: The instructor was rude and his teaching methods made me feel really bad about driving. He likes to use sarcastic words.And always said that he’s very talented. He also talked bad about other students. He is not professional at all. And today I scheduled a road test and while driving back to school He cut in front of another car and laughed at the other car. While I was sitting in the passenger seat. It was really inappropriate for me.

Negative experience: Plain and simple My experience at this driving school was very poor. I paid for the two hour driving service for $85 with the instructor Mike. I would say about halfway through my session I had to pull over to express to Mike that I do not like his teaching style. He is a very, very rude man and if you’re okay with being belittled or miss treated then this place is for you, but if not, I wouldn’t recommend it. After this, my confidence was kind of shot even though I have been driving for years now, but regardless, I decided to take the road test the next day and I passed with flying colors. In my opinion they are money hungry and they like to pressure you into feeling like you need to keep coming there.

Fantastic experience: I had a very good experience, I never had any driving skills and I learnt a lot. The instructor Mike is very good and he never go soft on you. He is strict for my own good, coz of this I was able to get my driving license on my first attempt. I highly recommend Mike(Instructor 4)

Fantastic experience: I joined Citizens Driving School early November and I had Instructor 2 (Ben). He was a great teacher, taught me very well and had patience too. I was able to easily pick up vital driving skills and techniques. I’m glad I found Citizens Driving School because not only were they affordable but booking appointments was efficiently done by Michelle. I passed my driving test successfully the 2nd time round as the 1st time I made an error due to nerves. However, my instructor encouraged me and saw my potential to try again 4 days later. In total, I had 13 hours of lessons and this is someone who has never had a drivers license before. I just moved from London so to be able to drive in the U.S. was really important to me. So happy and thank you Citizens Driving School.

Positive experience: I’m here to give a honest and raw review. Today 10/19/2023 I got my drivers license at Chicago South. I owe it all to Mike instructor #4 he was a blessing!!! Mike will not baby you and he definitely gives tough love , but as Mike says listen to me and you will pass. Mike is also a black instructor which I appreciated. I needed that push. Next, the school overall is very cost efficient I just wish they offered drop off and pick up as advertised on the website. Scheduling initially was easy and the receptionist Michelle was initially nice until she wasn’t. She threw subliminal shots and I believe my number was blocked which I feel is unprofessional being you have my money I have taken over 5 classes then after asking for her to give me a few hours to gather my final payment she cancelled my appointment last minute I I’ve been on time and faithful every class so give me the benefit of the doubt. ANYHOW god is good and I highly recommend MIKE!!!Thank you citizen driving school! *Edit* In regards to the test and learning classes be patient with yourself don’t rush the process, don’t overthink during the test and don’t let anyone make you nervous! If you don’t pass the first time try again and again! You got this you’ve prepared for this moment. Good luck and God bless!

Negative experience: Instructor 2 was very rude. He didn’t give proper feedback as I was driving with him. He yelled S-T-O-P do you know what that means. The worst experience I ever had. The more he yelled the worse I did.

Fantastic experience: Passed my road test on the first try after taking 7 hrs driving sessions with Michael (Instructor 4) in 1 month. I have a license in my home country for 5 years but haven't actually drove on road. Mike was strict and detail-oriented during driving sessions and he'll catch and criticize all my problems and bad habits, it could be stressful in the process but the outcome is worth it. After 1-month of practice I'm able to drive more confidently, not being held back by fear, and got my driver's license on my first try. If you're determined to learn how to drive safely and pass the road test, I will recommend Citizens Driving School. Price is very reasonable and the training is solid. Special thanks to Michelle who is always so friendly and patient, and helped plan all my driving sessions and road test.

The instructor offered me great help in learning the driving rules, how to drive safely, and how to pass the road test. I couldn't have learned so swiftly and smoothly without their help. Fantastic experience: I already have a driver's license in another country, and I wanted to learn the US driving rules. I took two hours of driving with Citizens Driving School. They assign me instructor #4 (Mike). He gave me all the instructions and information I needed to pass the road test successfully. We used the same car on the road test day, and the same instructor was with me. This was very useful as he already knows all the details of the road test. He gives precisely enough information to pass the test, and no critical information is missing and no extra non-useful details that confuse the driver or the examiner. The school is very responsive and accurate in all the information. Mike can be too serious sometimes, but you will appreciate his advice and notes after you get your license.

Fantastic experience: Mike is an excellent driving instructor! I took 7 lessons at Citizens Driving School with Mike, and truly cannot believe how much I have learned and improved over that time. By far the best driving instructor I have ever had. Thank you so much, Mike! Mike misses NOTHING. He's not one of those instructors who sits next to you in silence and barely pays attention: he constantly watches everything on the road as well as all of your actions, and will immediately let you know what you did well, what you did wrong, and how to improve. Out of all the driving instructors I have ever driven with, he is by far the most detail-oriented and gives plenty of feedback, and is always happy to answer any questions you have. Yes, he will critique and comment on your driving, but imo that's the whole point of driving lessons - you need someone to point out your mistakes so that you can learn and improve. He got me to practice in a variety of driving environments (small side streets, busy downtown streets, expressways, Lakeshore Drive, etc.), which I appreciated. He also places a lot of emphasis on safety, teaching you how to drive and interact with other cars and pedestrians in a way that minimizes risk. By the end of my lessons with him, I felt much more confident in my skills driving in all sorts of different environments. My recommendation: go with him, listen to him, and work on implementing his feedback. You'll really learn how to drive. I must also give a shoutout to Michelle, who works at the front desk and does all the scheduling. Michelle is incredibly professional and helpful! She was always patient with me if I needed to reschedule or had questions, she really listened when I told her what I was looking for and gave suggestions, and helped me plan a lesson schedule that best fit my needs. Thank you so much, Michelle!

Fantastic experience: I got my driving license in one week! I am a beginner and Leo Li was my instructor. He is very patient and professional. He is not only teach me how to pass the road test but how to have a save driving in the future. Highly recommend this driving school and the instructor Leo!

Negative experience: Today is 08/18/2023 my daughter paid $95 to take the road test road test today but she couldn’t make it due to a bad toothache and she called to respond the young lady there that schedules appointment was very rude and then the manager a male calls back cursing my daughter out say we was rude to her no that’s not the case he didn’t ask any questions he just called us and start yelling about we was rude his employee but she was just been very nasty on phone for no reason I told her I was gonna call back to speak to the manager and then we get a phone call from him yelling in our ear then he hung up that not the way to do business

Fantastic experience: I got my license yesterday thanks to my instructor Michael & Citizen Driving School. I was extremely nervous about driving after my father passing away in a car accident. However, Mike taught me the tools I needed to learn to be a safe driver & confident. He told me what I needed to work on to avoid repeating habits. I am so thankful for Mike because what felt so impossible 2 years ago now is a goal accomplished. I definitely recommend this driving school and recommend taking instructor 4 (Mike). I took a total of 22 hours of driving and passed my road exam on the first attempt :). Today I did my first drive alone to target and it went well. I will be back to take the highway class. Negative experience: Instructor Name: Leo Li 1. Rude instructor 2. His English is really bad, don’t ask for this instructor. Can’t say for other instructors working at Citizen Driving School. 3. Demanding, in a rude tone/manner. 4. Gives me anxiety, and makes me feel bad about myself, as he would often pressure me at times. 5. During mock practice for road test, he lets me know my mistake in a rude and mocking tone. 6. Citizen Driving School uses the instructor’s personal vehicles, instead of using their own company vehicle. This is unacceptable as it allows the instructors emotional side to interfere with they teaching, because you would need to be extra careful not to scratch or damage their “personal vehicles”.

Negative experience: Completely unprofessional. Their employees are sleazy and I’m not sure if they bathe by their smell. On top of that my instructor instigated an altercation with a pregnant woman and continued to call her vulgar names when he was clearly wrong. You can’t trust people to teach you to drive when they can’t drive themselves

Fantastic experience: Bo was my instructor and he helped me get my license in March. It took less than a week and Citizens Driving School was helpful at each step! I definitely recommend this driving school for anyone trying to get their license or trying to improve their driving skills.

Fantastic experience: If I were to describe the school in a word I'd say it's professional. There wasn't a moment I spent here that wasn't making me a better driver. I'm writing this review just a couple hours after having passed the road test under the instruction of Michael. He is an excellent teacher with over 20 years experience teaching new drivers to become good drivers. Michael takes instructing seriously in a tough and fair manner. I believe that's best too as driving is a privilege that requires a responsible mindset to succeed. Mistakes happen in that goal, Michael is excellent at both recognizing those mistakes early and correcting them before they become big mistakes later. Michelle does receptionist associated work for the company towards scheduling and such. Again, I found her to be highly professional. She respected my time and accommodated to my needs as best as she could, as my goal was to acquire my drivers license by the end of the month. The practice we scheduled in confirmation with Michael was always appropriate. She also called me quite regularly for appointment confirmations which I appreciated as I had difficulty reaching the company with my skype number, which is unfortunately the only phone number I have. I initially gave an overly harsh one-star review due to primarily my inability to call the company as I mentioned earlier and associated confusion it caused leading to me be unable to schedule classes. I'm sorry about that. It was something I should've dealt with better. I'm glad we were able to overcome that initial misunderstanding.

Fantastic experience: Only had 3 days before I was moving out of the city, they helped me get 8 hours of training and the test, all in 3 days! It wasn't easy but I got my license. Really grateful for them to make time for me in need. Had classes with Mike. Wouldn't advice only taking 8 hours for beginners, it can be a gamble but worked out for me at least. Mike really knows how it is like during test, so listen to him.

Fantastic experience: This is an amazing school for learning how to drive. I passed the road test in just one try and I didn’t know how to drive before coming to the school! My teacher was Michael and he’s probably the best driving teacher you could ever ask for in the Chicago area. Within 6hrs lesson with him, I could see so much improvements with my driving. He’s very experienced and strategic in ways of teaching so all you need to do is just trust he’s expertise and follow he’s instructions. I bought 10hrs driving lessons with him and I’ve improved so much within 6hrs of lessons. I came out from his classes feeling confident with my ability to drive safely and smoothly. I will totally recommend him to allllll the people who has no driving experience and feel scared with driving like me! Go for Michael! He’s 1000/100 if i can rate him.

Fantastic experience: I got my drivers license today. I passed the road test on my first try! I thought I was going to end up paying for the Extremely Nervous package, but that wasn't the case. I only had to do the 10 hour package. Citizens driving school is amazing! Michelle is so nice and she is on top of everything when it comes to scheduling. My instructor was Mike (instructor 4). Honestly, I believe he's the reason I was able to get my license as quickly as I did. Listen to him! Listen to everything he says because this man is extremely knowledgeable. He's been instructing for a long time and it shows. Not only will he teach you how to drive, he will teach you how to drive SAFELY. That is the whole reason I wanted to attend driving school. I'm about to tell all my friends and family about Citizens Driving School. If a nervous as heck, never driven in her life, 31 year old woman can do it, so can you! Like I said, just listen and trust in Mike!

Fantastic experience: I took around 10hrs driving lessons from Citizen driving and i was a beginner with no experience in driving and after the lessons i got my license in 1st attempt. My instructor was very patient and polite with me. And the management is really good they booked the lessons according to my availability. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Got my license today thanks to Citizens Driving School. It's competitively affordable and pretty near the Loop. I got 12-hour package (my schedule is tight) with instructor Michael (Mike). He's patient and tries his best to be clear on what he's saying. Driving needs intense focus so he's strict and sometimes raises voice, because he wants students to focus on driving safely and his instruction. He lets you know what you should know about the test as well. The office lady Michelle is helpful and really nice to talk with, she tries her best to help me make appointments as close to each other as possible since the school's schedule get filled up really quickly.

Positive experience: The front desk lady Michelle is kind and polite but the instructor Michael is very short tempered. He teaches ok but gets frustrated and angry as soon as you make any small mistake and starts shouting. Cars are dirty from inside with lots of food trash. I don't like any physical contact and sometimes when my instructor touched my hand maybe out of habit, it felt uncomfortable. Had to switch schools because I was loosing all my confidence with so much yelling and shouting by my instructor Michael.

Fantastic experience: Decided to go to a driving school because I needed someone who can teach me about how to drive. Some people know how to drive, but teaching someone how to drive is different story. I had another instructor as first and he was trying his best to communicate with me. Nonetheless, I chose Mike to teach me for the rest of my lessons because I needed someone who can fluently speak English, so then I can focus on learning how drive on the road without having to process and translate what the instructor said to me in my head. Mike is a great instructor! He is stern and will point out what I did wrong, but that's only because I did something wrong. Then he will go over the parts you did wrong and have you do then again. For example, if I make a left turn and it was horrible because I went to far out, then on the next intersection he will make me do a left turn again. He will make conversation here and there in the car which is a good thing for me because personally for me staying in a car for 2 hours straight and just listening to feedbacks and feeling nervous for being out on the road is exhausting. In addition, Michelle who works at the front desk is really nice. Which I appreciate because I didn't want to start out my lesson day with someone with an attitude, especially because I am and still is a "nervous wreck". During the day of the road test, I was really nervous. Ever since my road test was schedule, I was thinking every possible ways and "what ifs" on failing. But then, he'll let you know that you ARE going to be nervous when waiting, but out in the road all that nervousness is gone which is true. And so I pass my road test on the first try, and in a few weeks I'll come back to learn on how to drive on the expressway.

Fantastic experience: Michael taught me how to drive very efficiently so that I know exactly how to pass my test. He was patient and taught me all the essentials to be a good driver! Definitely recommend

Positive experience: I enjoyed the cost of driving at citizen driving school. The lady at the front desk is also nice. Only, the instructors need to stop yelling at the students because it’s not professional. It also confuses the student. I remember the day of my test, my examiner locked the brake and told me to maneuver. As the vehicle whirred, he blamed the transmission. The supervisor refused to let me retake the test. That’s just mean! But I got my test at Chicago North.

Fantastic experience: I just got my license today after the first try!! I got tired of not having my license so I went and paid them to teach me. Mike was a wonderful teacher! He was a bit stern, but he knows his stuff! Would recommend him to any new drivers.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this driving school. For me, I was a beginner to driving and my instructor was Michael. He taught me the rules of the road, safety, and making sure I could pass the road exam at the dmv. Overall, a very good experience especially to new drivers.

Fantastic experience: Bo was very patient and focused in the areas that I needed to work on. Before the driving test we went to the location and did several practice rounds. They are really focused on having you pass in the first try. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I took a two hour class with Mike ( instructor 4) at the citizens school. He is very thorough and careful about sharing the tips and tricks. Mike individually focuses on your driving skills as well as the safety aspect of driving on the road. He focuses on understanding why and where you may be having problems and shares his recommendation accordingly. The school asks you to pay separately for the road test and you have the opportunity to go with the same instructor and their vehicle. Mike was very supportive throughout this process and I was able to pass the test.

Fantastic experience: I am a beginner and I took 12 hours behind the wheel extreme nervous package . My instructor was Mike . He has great experience in teaching to the new students . He was strict and tough at times but in the end it was all worth it . I passed my road test in first attempt. Under his guidance I got to learn how to drive safely and confidently. Instructor Michael is patient, knowledgeable, and the instructions he gave to me are very detailed. Michelle is also very responsible, she helped to schedule every class and the test. Positive experience: The instructor was late, never said sorry , he called me fat and yelled the whole ride, he had food and his teeth and spitting when talking at me , not talking to me, when I asked for my refund the husband was upset and was yelling at me, this place is very unprofessional and I will never refer anyone here

Fantastic experience: Getting my license as a beginner, never drove before. At this school, I got to learn how to drive and drive safely. I was so nervous at the beginning and become more and more confident thanks to Michael, my instructor. Michael, is very goal-oriented and he teaches skills and knowledge. He is strict during driving lessons but very nice and funny to make me feel more comfortable in driving. Michael is very supportive and thoughtful. He has massive experiences and knows what is required for driving and prepares me for the test. The school organizes one instructor for the whole journey so that the instructor can follow up quickly with the progress and provide useful lessons. Michelle is very proactive and helpful with scheduling. Highly recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: Getting my license as an adult was a journey, I’ve been scared of driving since high school driver’s ed because I never really knew what to do, and the friends and family that tried to help were not experienced teachers so it made my driving anxiety worse. When I decided to move to California I knew I would have to overcome my fear and get on the road. I chose Citizen’s Driving School because it was extremely close to my house, and definitely one of the cheaper options. I came in thinking I needed one or two lessons but it ended up taking me almost 6 lessons before I went to test. Working with Mike taught me that I knew nothing about driving, but also teaching me everything I needed to know to drive, not just pass the test. He’s very firm, but only because he wants you to be the best driver you can be, and also be a safe driver who’s confident. He definitely helped give me confidence in my driving ability. He knows what he’s doing and he knows how to teach it, just as long as you’re willing to try. Mike is an amazing teacher who genuinely cares about all of his students and wants you to pass your test, and if you just listen, you will pass on the first try like me! Thank you so much Mike! Fantastic experience: After only 8 hours of taking driving lessons, I passed my road test on the first try!!!!! I’m beyond happy to choose this place and of course Mike as my instructor. He was amazing in helping me get trough my fear of driving and build up my confidence and teach me how to drive.

Fantastic experience: Just got finished with the road test for the 1st time in my life and thanks to my instructor Mike i passed. That's after the 8 hour beginner package on 4 separate days over the course of about a week and a half. Mike told me my weakness and how to correct them in order to be the safest and most responsible driver while instilling confidence for a beginner with very little experience. 10/10 would recommend Mike at citizens driving school.
