United States Truck Driving School: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I graduated from here , back in 2007, great school.
Fantastic experience: Great experience from start to end. Helpful, informed, and patient staff. Felt overprepared for all tests and assesments. Would recommend for any Class A/B CDL training.
Fantastic experience: Extremely satisfied with the Training I received here! From CJ to Vincent! Thanks for everything! Great School and Training!
Negative experience: Came in to apply for the school and sign up for financial aid. Website says they have financial aid, but when I came in the guy I talked to told me they didn’t. Told me to take a loan out with the bank, at the same time the guy in the next room is on the phone with someone talking about financial aid. Only thing I could think of to motivate someone to do that was the color of my skin or possibly my concerns about my background. Either way walked away from this place feeling pretty discriminated against. This was a few months ago. I explained to him as well that I wanted to wait for the charges to drop off my record in a few months to insure I could get a job. He insisted on putting my name out to possible employers that day. With him refusing to admit to finical aid , it made me feel like his motivation was to have the possible employers see my background before it cleared to disqualify me from working and applying for those company’s for whatever amount of time there policy says
Fantastic experience: Great school. Fantastic instructors. Clear instructions on how the two weeks would go. A lot of road time before test.
Fantastic experience: 5 Stars! I highly recommend this school especially if you are a veteran. The instructors are awesome and really knowledgeable. They explain everything very clearly.
Fantastic experience: Lonnie was my teacher he was funny and good teacher he was so helpfull to learn so much information he made my week laugh n finy
Fantastic experience: Excellent experience training for a Class B.
Fantastic experience: It's correctly answering to the most of demands
Fantastic experience: I will recommend this school to others. As a female foreigner with a harsh accent, I never felt that instructors or staff treated me differently than other students. Directions and instructions were clear, and tests were not difficult because all of us were well-prepared and all materials for our success were provided. United States Truck Driving School sets students up for success on the road.
Fantastic experience: I recently graduated this school in December and I can only say good things. The instructors and office staff were great and we were well taken care of. I would highly recommend this school to anyone wanting top notch instruction with experienced instructors who actually care!
Fantastic experience: I am overwhelmingly surprised and exceedingly thankful for the truly beautiful and heart warming experience I enjoyed learning to drive tractor-trailers and getting my class A licence from U.S.T.D.S I can honestly say that I love all the people there , the Driver Trainers and the Administrative staff genuinely care and will put in the effort to ensure that you gain the skills to become a true Professional Driver. I learned something new and valuable from each and every instructor, I went there a stranger and left there with an extended family They really exceeded all of my expectations. Super Glad I went to United States Truck Driving School It was Better than going to College…. LOL
Fantastic experience: Great experience, great people and instructors.
Fantastic experience: Pros: Fast paced classes , good instructors, on campus examiners, active recruiters, full time/ part time , day or night classes available!! A lot of time on the road before testing day. Curtis was my recruiter, very optimistic & sympathetic towards my situation then. He’s the reason I chose this school. CJ is a meticulous instructor, he was always happy to help and to answer any questions, he was very supportive through out my classes. I found his teaching method the easiest to comprehend. Jared was straight up and told us what we needed to hear to succeed , he kept it real . Loved that. CONS:Big classes & pricey classes (so worth it tho!)
Fantastic experience: Great program for vets staff is very knowledgeable and really cool people the student help did great jobs attending to our needs and you can tell everyone there cares about you as a person not a number and wants to see you do a good job and succeed
Fantastic experience: great school to go to when trying to get your cdl. these instructors will work with you especially james. he taught me alot and went out of his way to show me a few tricks of the trade to help pass the course. Tammy is also awesome she is always willing to lend a helping had and even after you graduate they are willing to assist which is awesome. shout out to all the great people here.
Fantastic experience: Great instructor's & staff!!!!! Best choice I've made in my life.
Fantastic experience: Awesome school and instructors.
Fantastic experience: This school is the most amazing. Look I came in thinking this is insane to have to complete your course in 2 weeks, the instructor are A1 they do what needs to be done the all stars in my opinion is You start off with AREX this guy is firm but fair if you every played sports this is the guy. Then CJ come in and knocks it out the park listen (always ask for CJ) then Donovan and Rick come in to let you take chances and make mistakes this is what guides you on your journey. You don’t know what you don’t know. Lou and Sandra will teach you how to drive don’t over think. The best tester and my opinion is Larry I might bias but you will learn to use your MIRRORS it’s worth every penny
Fantastic experience: Jared CJ Lou and Larry thank you for the opportunity and the training the knowledge and all the advice yall Rock !
Fantastic experience: Well for starters, the admin staff was on point with getting me to this location and housing me as well as travel. Everything needed from start to finish went flawlessly. The instructors this school were always going above and beyond to ensure that I fully grasped the information needed to get my CDL. I would like to personally thank James and CJ and Grandpa Lou as well as all of the other training staff for making this such an amazing experience for the transition into my newest career path. If you are interested in getting your CDL you couldn't choose a better school than these folks. They all have a wealth of knowledge in the industry and will prepare you for the skills needed to thrive.
Fantastic experience: I attended the USTDS in Wheat Ridge, CO to obtain my Class A cdl through Troops into Transportation at the end of May 2023. I honestly can't say enough good things about every aspect of this training program and school!! Everything for the office staff, to the instructors and everything in between!! I have been through a TON of training in my life with the military and through different civilian sectors, and can honestly say that this school was the most rewarding and the most positive experience I have ever had!! After graduating I had multiple job offers less than 2 weeks from returning home to PA!! If you are considering this school to obtain your CDL, stop considering and DO IT!!! You truly will not be disappointed in any aspect!! A special shout out to James, my examiner, Jared, the training manager, and Kristen from the office!! These individuals ONLY focus was to help me and my classmates succeed!! Thank you to EVERYONE at the USTDS for EVERYTHING you have done and continue to do to shape the future of the Transportation industry!!! PS. Any bad reviews on here are NOT a product of the trainers and school, they are strictly due to that specific individual that had a bad experience due to their participation, or lack there of, to embrace their drive and/or motivation in the program! People that place blame on certain aspects of their training are just passing the buck and cannot hold themselves accountable for their experience.
Negative experience: Any of the really good reviews here are probably fake made by the business. While I'm sure not everyone has a terrible experience, no one has a great experience. Old trucks, sub par instructors and terrible management.
Fantastic experience: Everything about this school is truly incredible starting with the recruiting process to the everyday operations and training. You are given the concepts, skills, practice, and most importantly confidence needed to get a job and succeed. However, be prepared to learn. The instructors will do everything to make sure you're prepared to not just pass a test and get a job, but more importantly to be a conscientious driver so that you and those you share the road with can make it home safely. You cannot do better than be accepted into this school.
Fantastic experience: The examiner James is a great guy he gave me a hard time because he knew I was studying hard but don’t take it personal he means very well. Great instructor. Great program.
Negative experience: This place is horrible. I've spent months and thousands of dollars to try to get a CDL B with passenger endorsement. They falsely advertise they can do passenger endorsement but the vehicles they have are broken. The training manager James is the worst, guy is not friendly and takes no responsibility for their mistakes. I can't speak to the CDL A training but if you need a B license or P endorsement go elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Great truck driving school instructors were great had a amazing time I highly recommend this school
Negative experience: Do not go to this school or to test here. They will fail you and make you pay to retest 90% of the time. They failed me and I went three days later to another testing place and did nothing different and passed easily.
Fantastic experience: Just graduated yesterday wonderful instructors a lot of hands on vehicle time remember you’re there for basic fundamentals in driving your employer will train you the way you need to be trained for the company so don’t expect a whole lot of on the road time you just need the basics to pass your exam more will be revealed at the school take a step into your new career with UNITED STATES TRUCK DRIVING SCHOOL!!!!
Fantastic experience: Best cdl program for veterans.
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend them to anyone!!! The staff there really help you with everything you need to make sure your ready an set to start with them. The instructors were very friendly and they really take their time in helping you to make sure you pass your CDL test. 5 stars ⭐️ for me
Fantastic experience: This is the go to School guys the best school I promise you you will succeed the teachers and staff are awesome don’t go anywhere else this is the school to go to
Negative experience: If you are someone from another country be advised this place is not for you. My husband went here and a bad experience and didn’t feel like he was treated fairly. Looking at other reviews it seems as thought this company has a track record of being prejudice towards those we do not speak perfect English. Word of advice just because someone has an accent does not automatically make them incapable or doing their job. As a school it is your responsibility to make sure the success of your students no matter what where their from.
Negative experience: The school defiantly choses favorites on who they like to pass and not. I went to school and failed due to them being impatient even though the other non foreign students were getting a lot of chances to pass. It does not seem fair to have 2 trainers supporting a student to passing and when it’s my turn I don’t even get the same support. Also Jared was being condescending telling me to go back to English school. Just because I have accent does not mean I am uneducated and for him to imply I go back to English school was uncalled for. If I can give negative I recommend for foreigners don’t go this school is bad
Negative experience: Shawn “the examiner” is kind’ve rude and it should be addressed. I’m paying you $10,000…..not for you to throw your attitude on Test day. Tammy is cool, so is Jarrod. It’s a pretty condensed school, I guess if you can’t find anywhere else come here. Otherwise, I’m certain there’s better options. Two stars are for Tammy and Jarrod.
Negative experience: Avoid!!! The instructors act as if they are drill sergeants, are lazy and swear at you. They don't seem to like their job and would rather take your money and fail you and try to purposely stump you on the test. Beware and go somewhere else. Don't waist your time or resources here. A complete and utter embarrassment to the trucking industry.
Negative experience: If I had the option to give 0 stars I would! This place is an absolute joke. my husband was enrolled prepared to start in Aug 2022 & he had his loan & everything approved & ready to go, but once he officially starts, for whatever reason of course the school cancelled the loan he was approved for & they have absolutely no reason as to why. Not to mention when you call the school You can’t even really talk to anyone cuz anytime you call to get information you get pushed to the side & they return your call when they feel like it. This school is not worth it, they don’t do anything to help you figure out any options as to help students get what they need.
Fantastic experience: Mrs aragon was very sweet and really helpful
Fantastic experience: One of the best schools the instructors are really patient they helped me when ever I had a problem they showed me over and over and over agin till I got it. They don’t pass you unless you know what your doing and they feel confident that you’ll pass. The office will help you find a job and there all are really welcoming and helpful they treat you like if your family thank you all for helping me get my CDL keep on TRUCKING.
Fantastic experience: The staff at USTDS is awesome! I know without a doubt, that they truly want to see you succeed. The front office will help you navigate your way to enrollment, training, and ultimately making sure that you get your CDL. The instructors are amazingly knowledgeable and patient. The training is hands-on, and fun.
Fantastic experience: Very nice and great instructors and are very professional
Fantastic experience: Just want to thank all from office staff to instructors and all I am forever thankful with all for BELEIVING in me for pushing me to beleive in myself you guys are number #1 in my ❤ I recommend any one who wants to get their CDL to go to you US TRUCKING!!!!!
Positive experience: I would say this is a good school if you're a fast learner. You will get out on the road the first day on the range. They do tell you it's an accelerated course. There is one good trainer in the lot. He was very patient and helped with any questions. He helped break things down and gave students the extra practice for things they needed help with. With that being said there is alot of room for improvement: They did not have enough trainers to give the added support for drivers who need it. You will see alot of drivers come back for an extra two weeks of behind the wheel training. There are very inattentive trainers for example there was an instance where students were being unsafe and there's wasn't a trainer around to see it happen or prevent it. There were some very impatient instructors. I watch while a trainer took someone on the road and spent the whole time shaking their head and getting frustrated with a new driver who had only been in the road once. The biggest issue is when speaking with the office about my concerns they were not willing to improve the program or provide any helpful solutions. Even though previous students had the same issues.
Fantastic experience: Great instructors! Thank you Jarrod, Shawn, Seth, PapaLou, Harley, James and Mr.Coleman. I learned something valuable from each of you. Thank you Tammy, Peggy and Kay for all your help and guidance and especially for the popsicles. I’m confident that I was taught the skills I need to become a safe and professional truck driver. It was a fun and great experience and everyone at USTDS works hard to help every student achieve their goals ✨❤️
Fantastic experience: On 2001 change my carrier has been totally great Training was the best thing to do although I was a truck driver back in Mexico even so I learned a new things and skills thanks for all your patience knowledge shearing
Positive experience: Never drove a manual or a semi, day one in class they had me on the road. I was terrified, but by the end of my first week, I'm more confident and committed to getting my class A CDL license than ever.
Negative experience: If you asked me with my previous experience at this school for sure I would not recommend this school to any new student because they have old trucks with to much technical issues sometimes they make you out driving classes one or two times till they fix the truck tractor engine that's exactly what happened to me you will be lucky if you see a newer tractor 2007 model that when I was there And don't expect alot of help from instructors at the same time there was some instructors with really bad behavior they do not respect the student and they don't want to teach you driving techniques just shifting and control steering wheel My experience with the Manager at that time was really bad I hope to do not meet someone like him in my entire life so what am saying just before signing to attend classes at this school ask some students at the yard to get more information better than signing first and asking the front desk people they are nice and reflect something is different behind the front desk because that's their job to make you sign in at this school
Fantastic experience: This is my personnel opinion on this school and how I felt about the instructors, facility and program itself. I decided to take this course for my Class A CDL upon my exit from the military, as it opened many doors to careers for myself and family. To say anything sub par about my overall experience would be a complete disgrace, I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect about it. Upon requesting to attend I was contacted by telephone and e-mail from one of the school coordinators (Shelly), where she walked me through the process from start to finish and what paperwork and information I would need each step of the way. The week prior to attending, she reached out to ensure that I had everything I needed and was not in need of help getting said required documents. Showing up to the facility I was sadly mistaken by skepticism and what the outside of the facility looked like, though it is an aged building the inside was extremely clean and organized. I was greeted by Shelly and directed to our classroom where we were introduced to the multiple instructors to include Nick, big mike, Dave, James, Daniel, the infamous BANJO (Damon) and Josh the head instructing supervisor. Josh was extremely relaxed and eager to get all students in trucks and into curriculum as fastest yet safest way possible. These instructors are extremely laid back and understanding, they are all very eager to watch you learn and grow, banjo is a one of a kind individual, he has such a enthusiastic personality and though he takes his job very seriously, he is very accepting of mistakes and figuring out how to make the corrections in order to move on to the next steps in success. You will learn very quickly that it’s 7th over 2nd! The overall knowledge of these instructors is above superior, they all have years out on the road and show a huge interest in teaching and assisting in the students receiving their CDL. My process has been extremely smooth and everything was broken down in a way that made it easier for myself to understand. The trucks they have are not the greatest of trucks but they do take care of them to the best of their abilities, they are all operable and easily driven, so as long as you listen to the instructors and their instructions. I give this company a 5 star review based off the clarity in how things would go as far as paperwork, hands on driving and the simplicity of block of instructions, the dedication these employees put into the progress of their students, and the overall performance and smoothness of how my experience went. I would 100 percent trust these employees and company to ensure the safety and success of anyone wishing to receive a CDL. To be clear I attended The Colorado Springs location from April 24th to May 8th 2022.
Fantastic experience: If i could give this place more star's i would!! Trainer's are helpful, and knowledgeable, they show you everthing you need to know over and over until it' comes natural to you. James is one hell of a trainer nd one hell of a guy!!!
Negative experience: yeah this was horrible like not good service at all this school very very very bad dnt go this school please if you want your good life so find any another school please i request everyone i have classic start today m quit my job for class and this guy say m start classic next month
Negative experience: Don’t wast ur time n energy, pls, in this skuul They r completely useless n not worth ur time Read between the lines n see, the set up n the hrs n the whole program is for the 1940’s !!!?! W. F?
Negative experience: I was told the school would have 4 students, per instructor, per truck. I was lied to.
Positive experience: Aye aye so you guys need to know this, this school is B+ very good teacher make sure you guys hit up Sean or Chris or James to really get practice in they will make sure you know the ropes to get your license, the property do need some work done and the truck are kind of run down due to the amount of students they get on a daily base overall this school got me my CDL and I really appreciate everyone there
Fantastic experience: Went through the course in November, failed my test 3 times. Had a lot of help from the instructors. Vehicles were in good condition. Everyone taking the course is kind and respectful. Would recommend this to anyone looking to get a CDL.
Positive experience: Very good school and the program still prepares you for the trucking industry. More one to one instructor time will be great tho
Fantastic experience: Awesome place, great instructors! Very helpful and knowledgeable!
Fantastic experience: First day in class we were told: "this is an accelerated program. Crawl, walk, run." Those words rang loud, true and clear! The school is an active learning environment, definitely requires assertiveness on the part of the student. Be prepared to jump in first day! Every Instructor has their strengths and weaknesses; every student has different learning styles - it's good the school has the variety! Going home to study the 5 page pre-trip: words of a page works only if the picture in the mind matches. It may not be a (useful) tool for every student but it would have been helpful (to me) to have pictures alongside the name of the part. (May get a mechanics book to build familiarization anyway). Truck Driving has definitive hazards, thus the additional Federal regulations for the license endorsement. The instructors were safety conscious and wanted us to succeed. Really appreciated the instructors that were verbal and systematically methodical in their approach (Sean, Larry)! Road training was as thorough as possible. Most instructors were specific in what to look out for and had a very calm manner that helped establish confidence. They also were clear and direct. Instructors that allow mistakes without constructive criticism do a disservice to the student(s). There's not time for a student to discover mistakes and self-adjust - the curriculum is too short for that! Overall the school hit every mark; as a student that graduated, the advice to future student(s) would be - "Get a job as soon as you're enrolled! The reason: you have a purpose in needing to finish on a deadline. The school is aware of company reputations so ask. Have and keep the mindset to learn, it is okay to not know everything, trust the process! Be confident. See you out on the road."
Fantastic experience: I am proud of my USTDS staffs and instructors who are working in this school. They are building back bone of American economy. They are built my all experience and knowledge belong to the Truck. All instructors are professional and highly skilled. They taught higher standards of trucks school. They are best school in America Who want to join Truck business then go to USTDS . Highly professional team and staffs and instructors waiting you. Ask Tammy and she will guide you professional to this school. Thank you USTDS and thank you so much Tammy
Fantastic experience: I just tested with Larry. I don't think you can find a more professional place to deal with, he was fair and made me work for it. I highly recommend this place!
Fantastic experience: Best school hands down in Colorado!!! All-star staff (Mrs. Peggy is so sweet ) and they have realistic trainers with different backgrounds and experiences. Mr. Jared, Mr. Errics, Mr. John, Mr. Evertt, Mr. Craig, Mr. Larry R. And Mr. Larry V. thank you guys for everything (sorry if misspelled last names).
Positive experience: This is a great school, the instructors have many years of experience, tons of knowledge and truly care about teaching you what you need to know to get your CDL. The reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the instructors are not all on the same page when it comes to certain details, like the pre-trip inspection. Also, sometimes you get stuck in 1 truck with an instructor and 3 students and it takes 1-2 hours in between taking turns to drive. Or, in the yard there are 9-10 students and only 2 trucks which means it takes 15 minutes before you get to practice a maneuver. Those issues are not a deal breaker by any means, but when I pay good money to go there I wanted to get as much driving time and reps in the yard as I could. I heard they just got new ownership and they have a new person in charge, and they are gonna address some of those issues and I'm sure they will get it all right. On the other hand its pretty cool that companies will come in and recruit you straight from school and you can have a job the monday after you pass your final test. Go there and you'll get your CDL Class A in 3 weeks. I'm happy I did!
Fantastic experience: Excellent and amazing people here! In the office, Tammy and Peggy are incredibly sweet and welcoming. The EXTREMELY knowledgeable instructors will do everything they can for you to teach you everything you need to know so that you can earn your CDL. They all very much enjoy doing what they do. They have have a great sense of humor that really goes a long way to diminish the stress level that accompanies the learning process of operating a 35,000 lb vehicle. Trust in them. If you put in the effort and take what they have to offer, you will earn your CDL. John, Jared (spelling check), Larry, Lou, thank you so very much for everything. I truly enjoyed learning from all of you. You helped open up a whole new world for me and my family.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding leadership, outstanding instructors, made myself a better operator,.. Thank You All
Fantastic experience: Great school, The instructors work really hard, do a great job, and mechanic 's as well .Raises should go there way on a regular basis because they are awesome. Thanks. Trucks could use a paint scheme like the US flag on Facebook with the flag looks like it's draped over .instead of those 80 s stripes. This was a great experience for me and a life changing one .Thanks again .
Fantastic experience: Great

Fantastic experience: The staff at USTDS was what made my experience worth it. They were extremely patient and always willing to spend the extra time to make sure I understood the subject matter. Thanks USTDS for everything.
Fantastic experience: It was the best place to learn the instructors was very helpful And patient with Teaching and the Administrators was also very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Great experience. The he instructors are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They really care for the students and for an accelerated course the instructors teach you a lot. John, Jared, Everett, Lou all had different styles of teach but were amazing people. Only downfall is the mechanics. They were never around and there was a lot of trucks that needed quick fixes. Other than that I definitely recommend this place.
Fantastic experience: USTDS is awesome. I just passed CDL exam today. Everybody was kind and helpful especially John and Harold. If you need a CDL I strongly recommend this company. The course worth it every penny because I enjoyed every minutes. Thanks USTDS.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to get your CDL! Trainers really care and the office staff is well organized and professional.
Fantastic experience: This was an amazing experience. All the trainers are 20 - 50 year experienced drivers .The recruiters are compassionate and considerate . If you have a professional attitude and sincere desire to change your life attend their training program .They will help you in ALL aspects of attaining a truck driving career.
Fantastic experience: USTSD is the best truck Driving school. I really recommend students who try to find truck driving school . The most amazing thing I have seen in this school they push you pre trip the track and trailer everyday. Sometimes you do it more than 3 times in one day that is really great thing to learn as student. I was in 3 weeks program it was hard for me but they make me to achieve the impossible possible. I passed in my first attempt so anyone out there looking school it time to join them then they will make you proud by doing the impossible possible. The others thing I want to mention for new student who try to attend the 3 weeks program I personally advised them prepare get familiar with specially when doing manual driving that way it won’t stress you . Because it is accelerate program you may have sometimes short time to get through in couple of weeks and to get smoother with other student that was the difficulty time for me other than the teacher the office worker special I would like thank Jeered and Josh they are amazing staff members. Come and Learn at United state Truck Driving school you will be proud when you graduate. Truck safe.
Fantastic experience: Great school to attend! Definitely recommend this school to everyone that wishes to learn to drive a truck-trailer or a bus. All the Instructors are highly knowledgeable. Instructors are patient, most of them have over 25 years of driving experience. Instructors will provide you the proper driving discipline and they will provide the proper driving; parking knowledge that students need. The principal of the school will provide the best training on pre-trip. I would like to thank the entire USTDS for providing me the education.
Fantastic experience: If you're looking for great opportunities and even better instructors you're in the right place heading for USTDS. I started this school in hopes of finding a career and vast job opportunities. Throughout the three weeks of attending their extensive program I've recieved every skill, tool and trick to excel in the world of trucking. From road experience to backing, These men and women are here for you. Heck, they definently were for me without a doubt. Trust the program; believe in yourself and importantly... be willing. Everyone in the front office was very helpful. Tammy got me started up with the program. Peggy helped tremendously getting everything rolling (the gentleman in the front with the gauges was really helpful as well). All the instructors (James, RC, John, Everett, Richard, Lou, Jared and Dave) are decorated individuals with immense skill. They deserve to represent such a great company as the company is lucky to have them. Harold is very reasonable and respectful. He ended up offering every good solution to any issue i had with positive progression. Thank you all for your support and memories that will be kept for a lifetime. I will be back for a refresher course! Graduated on the 21st and started on the 4th. Could not have done it better with any other company.
Fantastic experience: Great school to get your CDL John my instructor was very knowledgeable with the trucking industry patient and very informative in regards to my class B CDL Took the time to go over and over and over the vehicle and pretrip and driving with me helped me tremendously in passing my pre-trip,Driving test thanks John also the examiner Harold made me feel very adease and comfortable while testing great school and location.
Fantastic experience: When I started this school, I didn't even know how to start one of those big trucks. Now I know how to drive one and have the confidence that I can get a job driving them. This school gave me an opportunity to get an education that will lead me to not just a job, but a career.
Fantastic experience: I went through this school and just graduated on Friday last (12/4/2020). They have a lot of instructors with a very wide variety of experiences that they try to pass on to you. They work with you to get you where you need to be over the course of the few weeks that you are there. I would highly recommend anyone looking to get their CDL A or B licenses to give them a try. Office staff was professional and friendly at every interaction we had! Lew the lead instructor goes out of his way to accommodate students when life happens and family situations comes up.
Fantastic experience: Went to the prep class today Saturday for the written CDL test with the DMV. Nicole was the instructor and she cares about her students and her knowledge is amazing
Fantastic experience: Graduated from USTDS I’m October 5th (was a night class student) and I want to thank Carlos, RC, and Everette for everything they taught me! I also had Bill and James for a short time and both were amazing instructors as well. If you attend and get any of these guys as your teachers, consider yourself lucky!! I’d also like to thank Tammy for helping me with the admissions. She genuinely cares about you! Thank you USTDS, I got my Class A because of you and I can finally get my career started!
Fantastic experience: Excellent school and learning experience!
Fantastic experience: Amazing instructors and office staff. Driving trucks definitely has many challenges, but the instructors are patient, helpful, and do literally whatever they can do to help you learn and relax behind the wheel.
Positive experience: New director and staff are less knowledgeable and proactive than prior team. The instructor Gary is excellent and provides readiness assessment.
Fantastic experience: Great program, even for those of us who had previous experience. Learned a lot and brushed up on what I already knew and the instructors were great!
Positive experience: For the most part USTDS is a fantastic place to learn how to drive CDL class A or B vehicles. The staff is great from your first point of contact with a recruiter to attending the optional but free CDL permit prep class. All of the instructors were former truckers at some point in their careers. So the knowledge comes from first hand experience. The instructors are all encouraging and willing to help you as long as you can take criticism from time to time. You have to understand that when you get behind the wheel of even an unloaded Class A combination vehicle that it weighs 30-35 thousand pounds. You have to be safer than you’ve ever been before while driving. So if you start doing something dangerous the instructors have every right to snap at you. Be b safe, pay attention. Now for my minor complaints regarding the school, hence why it is 4 stars instead of 5, startingthe equipment and the facility. Obviously as a student learning to drive you are not going to be behind the wheel of a brand new $200k tractor; that would be foolish. You are getting a beater that still runs well for the most part but is ready for abuse that new students will inflict on it. There are however some things on the tractors that could be fixed a few had air leaks on the brake system that cause you to have to wait to recharge your tanks. Which is frustrating trying to run thru the backing circuits. There were a few other problems with the tractors that were minor inconveniences that I understand really aren’t worth fixing seeing as how the “yard” trucks never go on the road. The other thing I didn’t like was the yard itself, it’s horribly potholed and really needs to be leveled out since it’s just hard packed dirt. It’s not too much fun bouncing around the cab because the tractors have so much suspension all around. Not to mention shifting because you can’t keep your feet still. Again minor complaint. Secondly the actual buildings on site are very dated. The place was built 60-70 years ago or longer and it shows. I’m not staying you need top of the line technology and comfort for the students but something relatively new would’ve been nice. The last complaint I have which is the one it really believe needs to be addressed is class size. I was fortunate to be in a class of only 7, but they have classes starting every week and the one that followed me had nearly double that. When you have that many people the students lose out on valuable driving time. As when you do your road driving you will be paired with 1-2 other students and an instructor. For the road portion this isn’t that bad. You get about an hour and half behind the wheel before switching around and you can watch what the other are doing before switching back. On the yard portion this became a problem. My class had 7 but we had a few students come to practice with us on backing because they had failed their exam the first time. Fine, I want everyone to succeed. However when during your 10-hour class shift(if doing the full time course) you spend 9 of those hours waiting for another turn it becomes frustrating. I had talked to one of those students who had failed the initial test and came back and they had 14 students in their class. They got one turn each day of backing class. As you will learn if you attend that’s not really enough to instill confidence. I understand that demand for people wanting their CDL has exploded thanks to a lot of people losing their other jobs to the pandemic(I am one of those), but it doesn’t do the students any favors like that. Thankfully the instruction will make up for any deficiencies in training time. Just pay attention and ask questions. The training is short, sweet and to the point but my class and the one before mine had a 100% first time pass rate. Which tells you that the quality of education is there if you will really apply yourself. But remember just because those numbers are high doesn’t mean everyone can drive a truck. Come in with an open mind and a willingness to learn and the team at USTDS will help you succeed.
Positive experience: Would be 4.5 out of 5 stars if I could leave half a star. Please read. I really enjoyed my experience as a CDL student at the U.S.T.D.S. As many of the reviews state, there are instructors there that really care about you and that truly want you to be successful! Some special shouts out to: Ron, James, Leroy, Brett, and Casey. Some real characters in this bunch but incredibly knowledgeable! Even when I got flustered and frustrated, these guys always remained patient and positive. Listen to these guys as they really do know what they are talking about and they really do care. The extra time they spent with the students in our class, even after hours, was so generous. Thank you James for the extra time on the road, thank you Leroy for the constant support, even when I was completely flustered and thank you Brett and Casey, the true backing class masters! Wow! Also, a special thanks to Tammy A.!!! She is actually the main reason why I chose this school over others in the first place. She took a genuine interest in me, was always positive and has been incredibly helpful in this journey. She will go the extra mile for you and that means a lot when you are totally new to all of this. I am also very glad that I got to know Harold T., the education director. He was a very positive influence and incredibly supportive and helpful. I would also highly recommend that you get to know your fellow classmates. We had a crazy bunch in our group, but we had some real fun! Your classmates are a great support network while you are in class and when you graduate from class. Most of us have kept in touch and this had been incredibly helpful for me when it comes to resources in this brand new career path. I also feel like I made some good friends. The only reason I did not give this school the full five stars is the condition of the yard and some of the trucks. In short, the yard really needs some love. It's a bit rough. Some of the trucks are a little old and worn out as well. I would totally agree with others that have said "if you can drive their trucks, you can drive anything?" You just kind of have to embrace some of the mechanically challenged vehicles they have? :-) In an odd way, you actually kind of grow to like them. Me and my classmates had nicknames for some of them. All-in-all, I would definitely recommend this CDL school. Most of the instructors really do care about your success! Tammy A. is awesome! And Harold T. is incredibly supportive! Lean on your classmates for support and really learn from the instructors! Thanks again to all those U.S.T.D.S. staff mentioned above and to my classmates! I really learned a lot from each of you and I am glad I attended U.S.T.D.S.! Sincerely, Hudson
Fantastic experience: Did my class B auto teachers will not let you fail! worth the $1200
Fantastic experience: I felt very welcomed to attend U.S.T.D.S. and to learn new skills of driving a semi tractor trailer. The teaching staff has a variety of backgrounds to assist students with learning and are dedicated to help students be successful. The office and administrative staff are also helpful in answering questions and are friendly and supportive in my new career of truck driving.
Fantastic experience: Great teachers know how to explain what your doing wrong so u can do it right
Fantastic experience: USTDS has been a blessing for me and my family. They helped me with every step and process to reach my goal. I have to admit i was a bit nervous but the instructors and office staff were top notch. I Hope that if your thinking about coming here you do because it work our great for me and i know it will for you.
Fantastic experience: Great School to learn how to drive a big truck. Great instructors, they are very knowledgeable through and through. Thanks to Leroy D. for his attentive and patient teaching. In my opinion Leroy needs to teach all instructors how to instruct students. Thanks to Casey and Brett for teaching me how to back a big truck. Thank You all. Gary Stevenson
Negative experience: I went to trucking school in this place in 2016. It was horrible place. The manager was prejudice, agains African drivers . They are using tactics to failed African . I was one of the African drivers who was failed by prejudice tactics
Fantastic experience: Carlos and Leroy were great instructors. Going to drive OTR
