Road Star Driving School: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Great experience! Easy and quick to sign up for drive lessons! My driving instructor was Lyndsey, she is an excellent teacher. I had a wonderful experience with her! Thank you!
Negative experience: This business has new ownership that is ruthless. I paid for driving lessons but the online system wouldn’t let me book any because it said I didn’t pay. Then I reviewed the requirements of the BMV (my fault should have looked at it first ) and my daughter doesn’t need them, she aged out of the requirement. The same day I paid I asked for a refund, but the owner Kyle Meek would only give me half for no reason. I’m thinking this company is going under financially and they need any scrap of cash they can get.
Actually, the ownership has not changed in 25 years. Also, we have 16 locations across 2 states. I said I would give you a refund minus the fees incurred as a result of your sign-up i.e processing fees, online class fees, and franchise fees. You did not respond.
Fantastic experience: We have put 3 kids through this school and could not be more satisfied.
Positive experience: We have used Road Star for 2 of our kids' driver's education. The first one was fine, classroom learning and driving instruction was good and seamless. Now, our son has completed in-person classroom learning, and it was fine. But, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to book his driving instruction hours. They post random availability on the 1st of the month, and then again on the 15th. There has never been availability that works with my son's school schedule. So, be prepared to pre-pay for drives that you can not book. This is insane! There always seems to be midday availability, but he is IN SCHOOL. Aren't the majority of drivers ed students in school? I am very disappointed in this experience. He only has so long to complete all of this, yet they make in impossible. Beware before you pay for classes & driving that you can not book.
Fantastic experience: Loved learning to driver here! Very informative. Was able to sign up for lessons immediately after paying. Both Ashley and Kat were amazing instructors who helped me feel confident on the road. Would recommend!!
Negative experience: Not sure why they call themselves a driving school. The only instruction they do is in the classroom. THERE IS NO DRIVING INSTRUCTION! Beware. We thought we were paying people to actually teach our kid how to drive. Nope. They are only grading your child’s driving and telling you to take them out more. Yep, we’re forking over hard earned money to be told that your kid needs more practice so than can pass their test EACH “LESSON” Why do I need you to grade my kid’s driving? I need you to teach them. What a waste of money. Could you imagine sending your kid to the classroom portion and them coming back every day with a test grade based upon what the parent taught them? Insanity, right? Calling them is a 50/50 chance that you’ll never get through or the person doesn’t want to work and just sends you to their website Their name is essentially false advertisement. Totally regretting paying them.
Thank you for your feedback. I think there is a misunderstanding here. The State Law requires students receive an 80% or higher on their drives to pass the course. We try to communicate with parents when students fall below that standard to ensure students meet that minimum requirement.
So, to be absolutely clear, the state requires your student be graded. After each lesson we evaluate students and then communicate to parents areas of necessary improvement. It is then incumbent on the parent to practice those skills. This is a class that must be passed, not merely instruction. I hope that clears the misunderstanding. Thanks.
Positive experience: Had some issues completing my son's courses after the COVID shut-down and hectic Senior year, but they are trying to make it right
Negative experience: Don't use this business. We paid for driving school in May 2019. My daughter completed the written over the summer. We planned to do the driving the next year. Then COVID hit (March 2020). Schools and everything else shut down. Obviously, taking a risk with in person driving classes was not in the cards when everyone was told to stay home, restaurants were closed etc. Now that the world has opened back up, I tried to schedule. After many calls and messages (they don't answer their phone - even during their 4 hour open window) I was told we were totally out of luck. The contract is "only good for one year" (so would have ended in May 2020). We would have to pay hundreds of dollars all over again. Needless to say, I asked for an exception. Nada. Terrible. Avoid this place and pick another.
Actually, the BMV IAC Code dictates that students complete the course in 180 days. We try to be flexible and gave our students an additional 180 days to complete the course. Our drives were resumed in May of 2020 with zero incidents to date. Unfortunately, our hands are tied with what the BMV does and does not allow. This is why we send repeated emails urging students to complete the program in the time required.
Fantastic experience: My son had a great experience with this driving school. He was able to quickly complete his six hours of behind the wheel instruction and take the state driving test. Communication with the school was effortless and would recommend this business to any in training drivers.
Fantastic experience: very enjoyable and educational drives! Overall good experience and my instructor was very nice!
Thanks so much. We are glad you had a positive experience.
Fantastic experience: I've been tremendously impressed with the professionalism I've experienced while setting my daughter up for her "behind the wheel" training! Everyone I've spoken to has been very helpful and courteous. I can't speak to the actual driving lessons yet, however, because they don't start until later this week. I'll update once we've completed those! So far... great experience!
We hope your driving experience has met and exceeded your expectations. Thanks so much for your positive feedback
