Negative experience: do not go to this driving school, this man is vindictive and extremely rude. i unfortunately do not have that much driving experience as both parents work full-time. my mother works 12 hour shifts. i never had a chance to learn how to drive aside from a few hours here and there so we thought driving school would be a good option. right off the bat, he could tell i was inexperienced and seemed very annoyed. he told me i need to have more practice with my parents before driving with him. i explained my situation, and he rolled his eyes and said “well, SOMEONE has to teach you”. the entire time he was on his phone and not very attentive toward me. again, i am inexperienced so i was prone to making mistakes. i know basic road safety, but i struggle with changing lanes as that was something i never had much practice on. i made a mistake and was turning into the wrong lane because he has said ‘turn left’, which i misunderstood, and he slammed the break and chastised me for it like i was a child. he spoke to me conscendingly like i was stupid. he kept asking why the hell i would do that and i kept apologizing and saying i misunderstood but he kept going until i cried. he didn’t apologize or say anything after that. he gave me no feedback or anything after either, and i would’ve appreciated constructive criticism. next session, i was getting ready and hadn’t known he arrived. he didn’t call except for a text saying “here” which my dad didn’t see. he stayed for only 5 minutes and just as i was leaving the house, he left. my dad was really upset because we are lying this man good money and. he didn’t call or knock on the door or anything. my dad asked why he did that and the man immediately had an attitude and was extremely snarky. my dad started getting heated because he was making surely jabs about me and my family and told my father he was ‘uneducated’ despite my father having a PH.D in quantum mechanics. then the man said he would call every driving school in the area to tell them not to take me just because he was angry at my dad. i was nothing but polite to him and never did anything to him.

Fantastic experience: I love Jim I'm black and I passed he is not racist so idk what the other reviews mean he is funny and cool he only grabbed the wheel to help me on the potholes but other than that he never grabbed the wheel or even used to emergency brake he only used it when I got close to a car. We also went on the highway and everything he even brought me Slurpee's when we went to 7/11 :) I'm going to miss him because how cool he is but I really recommend this place I LOVE it when I get older and have kids I'm definitely taking them to Jim BEST DRIVER INSTUCTER EVER!

Negative experience: I would not RECOMMEND this school because I have called to see how much is the private lesson/behind the wheel since I got my certification for the 30 hr with different school. He told me it is $50 per session and wanted me to save money. He told me he would be there Monday at 8:30 am. When I got in the car. He wanted paper copy of certification. He told me that he going scheduled Tuesday at the same time. So Tuesday came I handed my paper copy to him to order to drive the vehicle. When I started I felt uncomfortable and I felt rushed. He kept on reaching his hand to my steering wheel. He got irriated with me for no reason. Then he was on the phone the whole time of my lesson. Telling me last minute things on the road. The energy with him was very uncomfortable I felt like he was being racist. When the lesson was done he gave me back my certification paper and told me he will let me know when is the next lesson. But never did .also, he never gave me feedback on how I did smh.

Negative experience: I don’t even know why I was refers to this school. Guy over the phone was very rude. Told me they offer what I need than right after that said no he won’t do it. Why even waste my time if you “simply don’t want to do it” you can find something way better and speak to people who are less rude. 0 stars Update: They even went out their way 20 MINUTES LATER to send me a message after the phone call. Super unprofessional

Fantastic experience: A WONDERFUL experience!! Mr. Jim was a kind and calm instructor, per my daughter. She came home after each lesson with a better understanding of the road. As a parent, he was a 10/10. He was the only instructor who could get us in a few days after my initial call. My daughter wanted to drive on the first day of school and we only had about 12 days beforehand to make it happen and he DID. He worked around our hectic schedule and fit in her lessons with no hesitation. I can’t say enough about how that helps a parent out. I will always recommend Jim. Lastly, I’ve seen the review about him being “racist”. Well we are African American, clearly African American, and neither me or my daughter felt any form of discrimination at any time. Also my daughter rode along with students of all ethnic backgrounds and in her words, “he was super chill”. That’s a glowing compliment from a teen!

Negative experience: Rude people.... Instructor is TOO OLD TO BE TEACHING... And .. the man is RACIST ... He failed my son because he was not white... Claiming he didn't follow directions..but... When directions are WRONG you don't follow them... And... He kept my son's school card that he needs .. how is this ok .. then my son didn't even finish the course... And didn't want to refund our money...$277 ... For a complete course... Not a two day .. but for the WHOLE COURSE... PLACE NEEDS TO BE SUED

Fantastic experience: We had a great experience with York Poquoson Driving School; our teenager said that Jim was calm and easy to drive with. After some difficulties with Hampton City Schools' driving range and instructors we were very happy to find this school!

Negative experience: He gives me trauma, anxiety and depression for the first day he yelled at me right on my ears even I did right he didn’t see that because he was busy on the phone every time he picked me up. and he was giving me a last minute direction even he knows Im still adjusting with the brake and gas. I hired a driver instructor to learn. I can’t concentrate while im driving instead he’s focusing what im doing. he is focusing on his phone. This is what he did everyday. So I quit on my 5th day and I asked him for $50 dollar refund and Looks like he doesn’t want to give it back and keep changing topic to forget the $50 refund So i decided just give it to him even he doesn’t deserve it. So now I will report him to dmv for always focusing on his phone and not on the student. If you really want to learn how to drive then don’t hired this Old men.

Negative experience: Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! Caught the old instructor going 30 in a 45 with his phone in his hands typing. I honked at him and he gave me the bird!!! Then I pulled in a parking lot and when he finally passed by us, he gave us the bird again!!!

Fantastic experience: Jim taught both of my kids and both complimented him on his methods and teaching style. He works with you to accommodate schedules and in the end gets the job done.

Negative experience: My daughter just finished her week yesterday. Her instructor demonstrated and did several things that concerned me and even surprised her. Here are the things that the instructor did that troubles me; 3 or 4 days out of the 7 he received phone calls and stayed on for a long time, used the emergency brake on his side of the car to talk to a friend while approaching a stop light. Her road experiences were very limited. She drove in Poquoson for one of her days; while waiting to pick up a student and then continued after picking him up. Meanwhile this was her 5th or 6th day of driving school. My daughter only encountered Poquson and Hampton's side roads. Didn't drive on the interstate, bridges or on 17. My oldest daughter received all of these experiences 4 years ago in this program with Jay Barbee. I'm very disappointed and upset that we didn't receive the same experience this time. With a different instructor, but same company.

Fantastic experience: We had a great experience with Mr. Jim. My son really liked him. He was great with the kids. Kept things fun and engaging. Lots of road driving to experience different situations. Very flexible schedule which was a plus for us. Thank you Mr. Jim.

Negative experience: Maybe choose too take the sign off your car when you choose too pull up next to people saying your where cut off. Calling people stupid and using the amount profanity let alone try to spit on my car. Not what you would expect from a driving instructor. Nor would I want my kids or any of my family around a individual like this. By all means if you have the choice try O'Neils or some place else. avoid these people at all costs. Seems very mentally unstable, scary for a driving school. The comment above shows the same crazy they are still in bisness

Negative experience: Do not hire if you care about disturbing your neighbors. What's with all the honking? If the person you are waiting on is right in front of the car, there is no need to honk three more times and alert the entire apartment complex. Roll down the window.
