Coach Als Driving School

Negative experience: False advertising. They advertise private one on one driving instruction for $65 per hour. The reality is, they actually don’t have instructors to provide the service advertised on the website. Weird.

Fantastic experience: I learned to drive abroad and hold a foreign DL. However, I wanted to practice my skills on US roads before I gave the NM road test. This driving school was the only one who could accommodate me on a short notice; everyone else said they were too busy for the summer but Eddie made time for me. I went for the 1 hour private lesson plus the NM road test with Eddie. From the start, he boosted my confidence and let me know of my shortcomings. I was a little nervous about driving a pickup, but he made me comfortable by giving some great tips. It was really helpful to have him while driving on US roads. His instructions were clear and his suggestions were very helpful for improving my skills. He was a very warm person and gave me great tips on where to go on road trips in and around NM. I would highly recommend this school if you're looking to brush up on your skills before the road test.

Positive experience: Overall, Coach Al's Driving school was a great experience. All of the driving instructors were involved with the military. The way the school works is that there is classwork and behind-the-wheel time. In total everyone will get at least 4 hours of drive time, with a few lucky people getting 5 hours drive time. The time behind the wheel is unique to coach Al's and makes a huge difference when learning to drive. I found that when I was instructed on what mistakes I was making in the car I could remember them better when I was taught in class. The class instruction mostly consisted of bookwork and videos corresponding to each chapter. The main exception to this is the 2 days of DWI training required by the state. DWI training consisted of watching videos of DWI victims and reading some book chapters. However, the training also consisted of having a APD officer speak to us about DWI and work in the field. This experience helped me be more informed about DWI and bad driving cases and was the pinnacle of my time at CADS. I give this school 4 stars because Coach Eddie will sometimes act in a politically incorrect manner and may offend some people without realising. He often called women babes in my class and accused me of having a foot fetish due to an explanation I offered on why feet may be a distraction when driving. Despite this, he strives to make everyone feel comfortable in class but may struggle to remember what makes people feel comfortable and what offends them. CADS is perfect for new drivers wanting behind-the-wheel time and aren't super picky about politically correct teachers.

Fantastic experience: I’m eternally grateful for all the wonderful instructors at Coach Al’ Driving School here in Bernalillo! Those three weeks in Coach Eddie’s class flew by so fast, and I’ve grown so much as a person and a driver during that time. Without your encouragement and guidance, I don’t know if I would’ve ever gotten over my fear of driving! Now I feel like a regular 30-year-old picking up my kids from school and running errands… thank you guys, truly. You really changed my life.

Fantastic experience: My son just completed the two week driving course offered by Coach Al's driving school, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Owners Eddie and Stacey Torres made it a very simple process; from signing up, to receiving the certificate of completion. The course was extremely affordable and my son received ample driving time as well as a quality drivers education. Coach Eddie Torres has a way with teenagers and is able to capture their attention while teaching valuable driving lessons. He does this through course materials as well as personal anecdotes. My son had a lot of stories to tell me after class which means that, these lessons will most likely stick with him throughout his life. He said to me the day class ended that he was going to miss "hanging out with Coach Torres everyday." That speaks volumes about this company. Thanks again to Coach Al's driving school for preparing my teenager for the road!

Fantastic experience: Coach Als Driving school is a locally owned business who helps out anyone in need of their driving test. I would recommend you reach out because they are really flexible with their schedule and will work with you. The prices are reasonable and you’ll be satisfied with their service. They get the paperwork to the MVD as soon as they can which is more professional than other schools in the area. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Before I moved drivers ed schools to Coach Als, I was in Old School Driving. That school kept cancelling my driving time and within the 2 months I have been with them, I had only gotten 1 hour of driving time. I had finally switched to this drivers school and it's a whole different experience .The instructor made me less nervous than my last instructor. This school made me feel comfortable driving. Just one day, I have already received two more hours of driving time and should be done within the week. They taught me how to park and drive in different areas with different rules. Already I feel like I'm a better driver and have gained more confidence in my driving. The instructor never raised his voice and was very calm. He told me what I needed to improve on, what mistakes I need to be aware of and what I'm doing well in. I am so glad i switched to this school. They are honestly best.

I really enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. They made everything very simple and easy to learn. Fantastic experience: It is good and fun class. I have a good and awesome time. Coach Eddie and Coach Al teaches a lot of important information that will help you and to know about safety before you start driving. Coach Eddie teaches what happens if someone is impaired or was drinking will impact your life. Also, knowing the rules of the road, knowing how to parallel park, backing and forward parking. Help us to relax while driving and drive at night and during the day. I am strongly recommend of taking coach Al driving school.
