Negative experience: Worst and most unprofessional business ever. Don’t waste time with them!

Positive experience: Booked my sons first lesson, and it was really easy. It only costs $99.00. The total will be $297 for 6 hours. They did not ask for that amount upfront, which helps with my budget. I received an email with the receipt. Mark was very helpful in getting registered. He said they only require $99.00 for the first lesson. I believe 3 lessons for a total of 6 hrs is a great deal! I did my research. My son will be driving with Gilbert. There is no added fees unless you cancel with no advance notice or if you need them to pick up the student driver. My son is going to either walk or take an Uber to the school. There is no indication of insurance fees. They just said for my son to arrive and bring his permit. I'm looking forward to hearing how it all went with my son.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with this driving school! I did 4 hours of driving with Instructor Gilbert, and he was fantastic — patient, clear, and very knowledgeable. He made me feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel. The total cost was $260, and it was well worth it, especially since I received my certificate at the end of the session. Highly recommend this school if you’re looking for quality instruction and a smooth process!

Negative experience: Look at the reviews before you proceed also! Update to their reply: You wanted a resolution on your terms when you’re the one that made the mistake. We drove 1.25 hours to see you out of all the schools and got childcare taken care of for TODAY when we scheduled. I told you the obstacles I had and you agreed that you can fulfill. You kept on insisting to drive up there when I kept on repeating I had a kid and then you stated that was my issue. A refund didn’t solve my time wasted and ended in more family stress's due to the deployment you were aware of. When I mess up I go the extra mile for my clients. Obviously you don’t since I did ask you for an extra hour to compensate my troubles you caused. I even asked you for a reduced cost on the next lesson and you said no because your business was doing bad. With that I can see why! Hope you have a great day and fix the issues on your end that you weren’t taking the blame for. We spoke to Mark on the phone. I was clear with him that I needed to take the day off a military assignment to get my wife to the appointment. We showed up on time and they schedule someone else instead. We drove 1.5 hours here from Jamul and even had child care taken care of. When talking to Mark he wouldn’t solve the problem. I gave him a solution but wanted to talk over me and do it on his own terms. He told me the childcare was my problem and not his. By far the poorest experience I’ve had in the United States of America. They don’t care about military members and that they’re about to go on a deployment. We wasted three hours of our day and $50 on gas to drive here. We had to argue for a refund. Worst business in San Diego in my 6 years of being assigned here.

Si estuviéramos echando mentiras como propietarios de negocios no tomaríamos tiempo de hacer una calificación por un gran errór que cometió que tuvo una simple resolución. Mí esposo le dijo que con gusto si usted nos daba una reducción que regresábamos porque tiene que faltar en el trabajo. Algo que usted ya sabía! Hace que porfavor tenga responsabilidad de su fracaso. Por esa razón tiene usted 2.5 estrellas en Yelp y con gusto pondremos la foto. Se le dio la oportunidad de hacer 6 horas de manejo por $250 por el tiempo que perdimos y la falta de profesionalismo en su parte por no brindarnos el servicio. Usted le dijo a mi esposo que no le importaba la mala calificación y adelante. Eso habla mucho de su negocia y falta de calidad Saludos cordiales. Una gran decepción y falta de profesionalismo. Agendamos una cita y llegamos a tiempo y no nos atendieron. Manejamos 1 hora y media después de la desvelada y todo para que el dueño fuera rudo con mi marido en el teléfono, yo siento que lo minimizo por ser el de descendencia Mexicana. Teníamos evidencia de que era culpa de ellos y no nos querían dar resolución. Batallamos para el rembolso también. En fin de manera nos pusieron en una situación peor de lo que estábamos. No hagan negocio con este local.

Fantastic experience: We tried another driving school first and therefore REALLY appreciate what A great instructor GILBERT has been at MATT. He’s very patient, Understanding, CALM and Really has a good intuition for dealing with nervous students ! Highly recommend Gilbert to get your child ( and you ) thru what could be a nerve wracking experience elsewhere !!!!!!

Negative experience: BUYER BEWARE In addition to all the extra fees listed on the website, this driving school charges an additional $250 for the "insurance" they need to cover the six hours your learner is in their car, regardless if you already have them covered on your own insurance. There is NO mention of this on their website. I purchased a Groupon that had an alleged "value" of $360 after reading all the fine print and scouring their website for whatever additional fees there may be. An additional $110 for the certificate was listed under their "extra fees," but no mention of the $250 anywhere. When it was brought to their attention, they acknowledged the omission but did not do anything about it. It's one thing to charge $730+ when other schools in the area charge only $300-600 if you think the service you provide is out of this world, but to be called out on your failure to fully inform buyers of your fees and refuse to do anything about it is not only horrible customer service, it reflects dishonest business practices (which I discovered this company has a reputation for). I wouldn't trust to put my kid in the car of a company like that. It's interesting (and highly suspicious) how five-star ratings suddenly pop up after a negative review is posted. Suggest you keep shopping.

Fantastic experience: Although we did have to pay additional fees after the Groupon, it ended up being the same price as the other driving school we were looking at. The staff was great and lessons helped my daughter gain confidence driving

Fantastic experience: The previous reviews left have nothing to do with what I experienced. The instructor was very good at giving me feedback and directions. Instructor was very nice and always on time to the lessons. I was explained everything very detailed over the phone and they where flexible with my schedule and got me scheduled for my class within 2 days I was doing my first lesson. I passed my test on the very first time and didn’t feel nervous as the instructor had gotten me confident and ready for the test.

Fantastic experience: Solid experience. Gil was great and was open to focusing on specific lessons to help my son pass his test. **Do not sign up through Yelp.** The way the payments/certificates are structured is confusing. Call MATT direct and you'll end up paying the same fee you would have through the Yelp "discount" minus the frustration. My son just drove 1:1, Gil was very polite/patient and made it stress free.

Fantastic experience: I passed my driving test on thursday.Gill is an amazing instructor,and he is very profesional.i passed the behind the wheel test at the first time.I highly recommend Matt driving school. The instructors that I had in the pass did not have any patience . It was a blessing from God to find this great scholl.The money I have paid for the lesson is worth it.

Fantastic experience: My 16 year old daughter today reaped the rewards of going to Matt Driving school, she passed her DMV driver's test with flying colors!!! For our 3 driving appointments, they were knowledgeable, professional and courteous. The last appointment was a practice run of the DMV's drivers test itself, including driving the DMV actual route. What a god-sent! My daughter was soooo nervous and knowing not only the route, but the individual things the DMV rep is looking to mark you down on really helped prepare her for the driving test. Fantastic experience: Best driving school in San Diego, my son was preparing for his road test and thank god the instructor was considerate and worked around his school since school is being done at home due to virus. The prices are reasonable and the cheapest, they are so responsive with emails and calls. And the service is the best I have ever seen for this industry. Call them and let them know they come highly recommend on Yelp and now on google. These are the business that thrive on dollars and sense.

Fantastic experience: One of the best driving school in whole San Diego. I had talked to almost 10/12 school before settling for Matt Driving School. If you are in San Diego, you can never go wrong with Matt driving school. Matt himself is very professional and humble. He is very courteous and helpful. The instructor ‘Joanna’ is also very calm and helpful. Me and friend took classes with them and we both cleared our driving test in the first go. Also it’s very economical compared to other schools. Highly recommended. I see that many of low ratings are due to Groupon Coupons. I also got to know about them from Groupon and called them before I was about to buy the coupons. Matt explained me in detail why those coupons won’t work for me. I guess people should contact the store first before just buying coupons because at the end it’s the store who honors the coupons not the Groupon people.

Fantastic experience: I really highly recommend this place to everyone my instructor was so polite and the first thing they ask is what my daughter needed help in . My daughter is very nervous she already took like 3 tests and didn’t pass and with this instructor he took his time to teach her to park,reverse, and how to go in and out of the freeway thanks MATT DRIVING SCHOOL I really appreciate everything you did for my daughter and she passed her test woohooo

Negative experience: HUGE SCAM....Discount coupon on Groupon seems like a deal till they charge you an additional $120 for the certificate and $25 per day pick-up fee. Like the other reviews when calling to schedule an appointment they said additional fee needs to be paid to cover the certificate..I was referred to the "fine" print of their groupon add. They did state "Certificate not included" but failed to include it is $120 in that "fine" print. They will tell you over the phone to look at their website. That is some shady BS!!!!! Complaint being filed with Groupon and the State. Regarding the business response. 1. Learn to spell...every one of your response's has a typo. 2. I am the Grandpa you talked to on the phone and I did not abuse you...I asked if you were sh#tting me about the additional fee's not listed on the Groupon. 3. I do live in San Diego so the cost of living is apparent to me but what does that have to do with your deceptive advertising? 4, The Groupon has not been redeemed yet nor will it because my research has found a less expensive driving school here in San Diego...BTW...their fee's are all listed on the front page of their website...no need to search as required on your website. I have filed a complaint with Groupon with a request for a refund as well as the BBB. Have a great week

Negative experience: Everything seemed to be going ok, but the last day my son texted me telling me he would be done one hour earlier because they had booked another kid with him so they would share the 2 hour lesson. Nowhere in the contract did I see that he would only get 5 hours of driving after I paid for 6. They sell you cheap lessons and at the end they rip you off!!! Extremely disappointed!!! And besides they take forever to get you an appointment!

Negative experience: $155 Groupon actually cost $275. You buy the Groupon and then they refuse to give your kid driving lessons until you first pay them the $120 certificate fee. Their response to me. I should have read the fine print. I sent them PICTURES of the fine print they told me to read. No where does it say you have to pay anything else before they allow you to do the driving classes. They are just wanting to scam you out of more money because being honest up front apparently is lost to them. All the site says is certificate not included. Not "we will refuse service to you unless you pay us $120 more". I'm not the only one. Check out the other reviews on yelp.

Negative experience: I feel absolutely ripped off. Purchased a groupon (I'm a single mother of 4), only to find out that they were going to charge another $125 once we attempted to redeem the voucher. Plus, they won't even begin the classes until you pay the additional money. I do not recommend this place. The guy who called even seems condecondescending and has I couldn't care less attitude. Not a happy customer!!
