Austin Driving School: Reviews
Negative experience: Horrible customer service and not enough instructors to get the courses done in a reasonable amount of time.
Negative experience: Don’t give this place or any other ADS locations your money. Nowhere on the website did it say I couldn’t have my permit before attending lessons. Anyone who answered the phone was unwelcoming and impolite, didn’t seem to know what they were doing, and acted as if I was in the wrong for simply asking questions. Just so everyone knows, you are required to complete their “classroom” to get lessons here, which you can’t complete if you have your permit beforehand. You can’t just have supplemental driving lessons by theirselves, they want you to complete their whole “course” which probably wouldn’t be any better than going to your driving test without ever having touched a wheel. I’m honestly glad they stopped me before completing any lessons with them, as the facility was messy, unprofessional and nauseating. This review is a little cold-hearted but they haven’t refunded my money yet either, maybe I’ll consider deleting it when I get my $450 back. Thanks ADS
Negative experience: One of the worst driving school.. They don’t respond much
Negative experience: Please do not give this business any of your money. I’ve been trying to get a refund since December 2023 and have repeatedly called every month. First, they were unprofessional and told me that if I paid their fee, I could call in two weeks and get my spot reserved and then said to me that they didn’t have any space and have been denying my refund. It’s been challenging to reach management and their finance department. I’ve never had such a hard time getting a refund. Do not give these people your business.
Negative experience: Every time i call after registering my wife in Feb 2024 - I am given different wait list numbers . Seems staff attending phone is not trained properly to handle customers and provide accurate information. Call goes to some kind of a central location and they ask which city you are calling from !!
Negative experience: Do not go here. Drive times are delayed for months due to poor staffing.
Fantastic experience: what yall meaaaan with these bad reviews, the teacher (forgot her name, if u reading this miss, im sorry but i hope u remember me lol) is the SH!TS she is cool, very nice, helpful, and knows how to get along with her students. AND they fed us pizza and brownies as a reward at the end.
Negative experience: Sheila at the Cedar Park office is very nice and helpful. She is very informative and organized, also. My son also liked his class instructor. However, the main office must be short-staffed, which caused some problems toward the end of the 3-week summer session. My son was signed up for the 11:00-1:00 class for the 3rd 16-class summer session in Cedar Park. Even though we live in Round Rock, we specifically chose Cedar Park to get the 11:00-1:00 time slot because it fit our schedule. At the end of the 2nd week, my son informed me that he had to attend the 5:00-7:00 class time slot for the last 4 classes because they didn’t have a teacher for the 11:00-1:00. This was very inconvenient because we had planned his rides to class for that week based on the 11:00-1:00 class time, and we were moving our daughter to college on his last class day. Then, it turned out that he missed the last class altogether because ONLY THE LAST CLASS was scheduled for 3:00-5:00 and he showed up at 4:45 thinking class started at 5:00. So confusing! He said they had told him, but he forgot. I, the parent, didn’t receive any notification about these changes and was relying on a 15 year-old boy for information. I still have to schedule his drive times, as we have already paid for the full $410 package. I’m really hoping that the rest of our experience goes better!
Positive experience: Started new program today. Very nice and friendly people. The A/C was broke and it was hot. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Lots of things to do during break time.
Negative experience: Cedar Park Location has poor management and lack of driving instructors. WE could not get enough instructor drive in time for my child to get their license, we had to change locations. Such a waste of money... Go somewhere else and save the headache.
Negative experience: I spoke to a Hispanic lady at the location on manacha road and she was very rude, unprofessional in answering my questions and didn't really let me explain the point I was trying to make !! I give her the benefit of doubt that she was having a bad day because I really hope she isn't like that all her customers!!
I am very sorry to hear about this rude behavior from our staff. This situation will be addressed immediately.
You can contact me for more information at 512-280-4499, or email at [email protected], you can speak with Monica.
Negative experience: The employees were all nice that I talked to over the phone but everything else is not acceptable in a business. My daughter only was able to get 2 drives in 3 months and so I called asking to switch to parent taught. The lady was nice and understanding and offered a refund. Except that apparently it never showed the refund was processed. After taking to 3 different people and one lady saying that I wouldn’t get the full refund that they told me, it was very frustrating. I don’t recommend signing up with Austin driving school.
As with many businesses during this pandemic, not all of our driving instructors have returned to work because of understandable concern with the close proximity in the vehicles.
Unfortunately, this has made it difficult for some of our students to finish their driving appointments in a timely manner at some of our locations. Austin Driving School does have the option of transferring a student to another ADS location or to our parent taught course.
We do the very best we can to make sure all of our customers are satisfied, but regrettably that did not occur in this situation. In conversation, we received acknowledgement that the two lessons completed were done to the parent’s satisfaction.
If transferring within the company does not occur, a refund of the unused portion is issued and a $50 administrative fee is retained. Under the circumstances, the administrative fee was waived and a refund was issued for the unused portion of the course. We only charged for the education that was received.
Negative experience: 12 months later my daughter STILL has not gotten all of the driving times that we paid for. It seems like they are taking people's money knowing that they don't have enough drive instructors Just don’t bother with this place. Poor communication, you won’t get your license here.
Negative experience: my daughter has been taking classes there since June and still has done2 drive time We spent all this money hoping she would we driving by this school year and nothing yet Today we scheduled one drive time for spring break and they can’t tell us when the next one be It will take another year or so Please don’t waste your time or money here Not a professional school Really I wish I could give -10 . I would suggest just have your child take the courses on line it’s much faster and less headache I wish owner should respond here They respond to only 5 star comment but ignored all the negative reviews
Negative experience: TestDon't waste your money here! They have taken mine and my daughter still has not gotten her license. Its been almost a year. Today dropped her off for an appt at 700am and the instructor is a no show. It's too bad I need to give a one star less would be better! Many more complaints I have not enough internet space for me to rant. Update... now they want 60something more to take the final test!
Fantastic experience: The best!
Thanks for the 5 stars!!
Fantastic experience: Took my drive test there- Oh my God how sweet they all were!!! Put my nerves to ease and were so calm and kind. I have terrible test anxiety and probably wouldn't have passed at DPS with their cranky staff.
Wonderful! Thank you for the feedback.
Negative experience: i would put negative stars if i could. over 9 months!!! our daughter still has not gotten all her driving classes from this school. just ridiculous... everytime, i drive by that school, their instructor cars are just sitting in a lot (spring break, weekends, after school), it seems like they work at their own leisure and don't care to complete their student driving hours. 25+ something years ago, i've gotten all my training in Austin Driving School (not this location) within 3 weeks. today it's close to a year time and still not even close to finishing it... worst school ever. don't waste your time putting your kid into it.
I'm sorry that you've had such a bad experience. Please call our corporate office at 512-280-4499, and we'll be happy to assist in getting your daughter completed.
Negative experience: Seven months later my son STILL has not gotten all of the driving times that we paid for. It seems like they are taking people's money knowing that they don't have enough drive instructors.
Mr. Black, please contact our corporate office at 512.280.4499 and we will be happy to get your son scheduled.
Negative experience: I was really disappointed when an instructor driving her car (that indicated Austin Driving School and Student driver on the back along with the business phone number), was cutting people off in the carpool line at LHS today and not being curtious to students trying to merge into the outgoing lane either. Not a very good example when we are trying to teach our kids to drive safely. All of my kids will be going to Aceable Driving School now.
Negative experience: Yes they people are nice but my daughter has been taking classes there nice April and still has yet to finish her drive time. We spent all this money hoping she would we driving by this school year and nothing yet. I would suggest just have your child take the courses on line it’s much faster.
Negative experience: If you are looking to get any drive times within a reasonable time frame, this is not the place for you. My teen is ready for her license but still needs 3 MORE DRIVES!! That's crazy! They scheduled her for a double drive to "finish up her drive times" then acted like they had no clue what I was talking about and that I made it up. Like I would have known that "Double Drive" was even a thing unless they mentioned it. I will say that everyone is always super friendly, they just need to either accept fewer students or hire more instructors! We've been going since February, 7 months now, and will have to wait at least another month before she can get her license...and we'll have to miss a day of school to do it or pay them extra to take the test there.
Negative experience: Cedar Park Location - Don't waste your money! The classroom portion of the course went fine, however when it comes to drive time, good luck! They only have 3 hired drivers with a backlog of 100+ kids needing hours. My daughter took the course in Jan and has only had 2 drive time sessions. She won't even be able to get her license in July because they don't have time slots available to complete the driving portion. You would think for paying almost $400 per kid they could hire some people! If I could do it all over again I would have went the parent taught route and saved $400!
Negative experience: It was a 10 week wait between my first and second drive time, and when I came in for my second, they only let me do half of my drive time.
Positive experience: My daughter was having the issue with the person being rude and saying that they will give her a call back. I ended up calling headquarters and they said the Cedar Park location is now scheduling drive times on a rotation basis and they will be giving the kids call backs in order of their rotation. I told them that the person answering the phone needs to explain this and not just hang up on people. She promised a call back by next week.
Negative experience: This location refuses to schedule my son's driving part of the course after he completed the class room part! Called for 2 days and all they keep saying is I will have to call you back! After 2 days I called again this time the person hangs up on me!! I stress go somewhere else, to a place who cares about the customer who paid $370!
Negative experience: worst experience ever. Helping out my niece who started this program on her 15th bday.....340 days later she still isn't complete....instructors make excuses....speak about their drug habits....the kids "drive them" to run their errands....the WORST ever. I will be contacting the state in this.
Positive experience: Learned alot, very nice instructors
