Negative experience: Very very rude. The lady Melanie was very very unprofessional. Took my money and will not return it. A misunderstanding did make me upset at myself not her and she kept being rude to me when I asked to get a refund because the scenario would not work out. What a terrible business practice. Wouldn’t expect that from a business in Steamboat. Hopefully no one accidentally does something wrong around Mrs Melanie. What a hard way to start a day.

Fantastic experience: Melanie is extremely professional, thorough and courteous. My experience during our 1 hour refresher and driving test made me feel far more confident in my driving ability. My nerves were near instantly put at ease. She taught me many important safety tips and rules of the road I wouldn't have known otherwise in such a short time. I highly recommend her to new and even experienced drivers alike!

Negative experience: Started testing with bad attitude and was very critical from the jump. It was obvious that the instructor enjoys her power role and was not afraid to enforce it and make you feel weak as a driver. She was very critical and loved to nit-pick. She also was very rude the whole time and gave harsh criticism instead of constructive criticism. Don't waste your money here when there's cheaper and more understanding options. Worst 100 dollars spent ever. Before you believe her response, I was able to see that she was not paying attention to me when I was making multiple lane changes (her face was literally down in her paper instead of looking up), she said I did not look back when backing up when I did, and she said I was speeding in an area where the speed limit sign is only visible from one side, so you will be considered speeding unless you know the area. Yes I made a few mistakes but there was clearly 3 to 4 instances where she was over critical and not paying attention. If this is not enough for you, she is also way more overpriced than much of the other driving schools. This on top of her judgement, inability to be alert of the test taker, and overall attitude makes this driving school not worth it for your test. Again maybe she was just having a bad day, but it is very unprofessional to let that get in the way of your test scoring and miss key details of the test. I am still very upset that she said I cut someone off because she said my blindspot light was on when it had turned off, the driver let me into the lane, and I was more than a hundred feet away from the driver. Btw if you need proof I passed a test the very next day at a more polite location in Denver (a big city compared to a little town) and it was 40 dollars cheaper. If you want a better location, I recommend mile high driving school on 1060 S Raritan St, Denver, CO 80223.

Fantastic experience: Melanie and her team provided excellent, detailed and engaging driver education to our teenage son. You could tell the attention to detail by the instructors as they taught both classroom material and in the in-car drives. We opted for the full package which included classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction for our son to get his driver's permit. We loved that the package also included the in-car test and written exam for the driver's permit as well as the in-car test for the actual license. It was so much more comfortable for our son to have the consistency of instructors through all of these stages. We highly recommend Steamboat Driving School for a thorough driver's education experience!

Negative experience: My daughter took the 30-hour class and said that Ms. Nimtz was a fine instructor and had a good grasp of the material. However, we later found out that Ms. Nimtz told all the kids packed into a small conference room for 4 days straight that they did NOT have to wear masks if they didn't want to, and she did not wear a mask during the class at all, or take any other precautions to prevent COVID-19 spread. When I brought my concerns up with her, she claimed to be following the same rules as restaurants and gyms (not true, and a classroom is neither of these places). Just a heads up to all you folks who might be registering for future classes... Ms. Nimtz will ignore local health regulations! Astonishing when you consider her job is to protect the safety of our teens...

Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best driving school ever. Melanie is patient and a great communicator. She truly wants to teach people to be responsible educated drivers. My daughter had no previous driving experience and she could not of got her license without this driving school. It is worth the investment. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Melanie did an outstanding job. I was thrilled to see the skills and knowledge my son learned being demonstrated on the road. In addition he had gained knowledge in safety. He passed his driving test with no errors. I attribute that to his knowledge he had gained with Melanie.

Fantastic experience: I started to do the 30 hr online class and I hated from the beginning. So I stopped and decided to try out the class. It was a great decision and I learned so much more than I would have. Also this class helps you realize the importance of safe and responsible driving. I also did the 6 hr behind the wheel training and it helped become more confidant in driving and parking. It also went by fast as well as Melanie giving me vital tips for me to become a better driver. I highly suggest this class for anyone. Some of the other revives are misleading. I have also had Melanie in class and every time I have had her as a teacher she has done an amazing job.

Fantastic experience: Wow, not sure about the validity of the other reviews, but I can tell you SDS is doing a fantastic job. My son was eager to start driving, so we enrolled him into some online coarse for $75.00. You would think that getting a teenager to sit down and watch a screen would be easy. Not so. Seems the content is boring and not presented well. We canceled that online course and enrolled him into the classroom offered by SDS. My son took the 30 hour course over two weekends. He was engaged! The course brought in police, mechanics and other professionals that helped my son fully get the impact of a drivers license and the PRIVILEGE it is to have one. My son passed his Permitting test on the first try. After driving with us for over 35 hours, he took the Behind the Wheel 6 hours with Melanie. He had a great experience and learned much needed information, not coming from a parent. I get it! I am confident in my son as a new driving on our roads in Steamboat and beyond. Thanks you SDS and Melanie, you are providing a much needed service to our community.

Fantastic experience: Ms. Nimtz is by far the best teacher I've ever had both in the classroom and on the road. I did the six hour driving lessons with her and learned so much. Parents can teach us the basics, but it's important to learn from an expert. With Ms. Nimtz I learned parallel parking, down shifting, and so much more. I was able to have fun while becoming a safer and more confident driver.

Fantastic experience: This experienced teacher has a master's degree in education and takes our children's safety in driving very seriously, as she should. The cost for the class was a good bargain with all the extras she provided including four days of comprehensive training, varied instruction, guest speakers, post-class testing, and post-class driving for 6 hours. After this training, I feel much more comfortable and safe being the parent supervising my son's learner's permit hours. The instructor cares about our kids and the safety of driving in our community. As parents, we recommend Steamboat Driving School.

Fantastic experience: Melanie is an outstanding teacher! Our experience with her was amazing! She is on top of details, knows the rules, understands and relates to the kids, takes time to communicate effectively with both students and parents, works hard to schedule timely appointments and truly cares about the entire process. She's patient and a great role model. She helps create fantastic drivers. I've heard only positive experiences from honest, upstanding kids and parents who have actually had experience with her driving classes. I would recommend her over and over. She would get 10 stars in our book.

Fantastic experience: Great classroom experience! We have had one daughter take online class two years ago and one take Steamboat Driving School in-person class. There is no comparison! In classroom was worth every penny and she learned SO much!

Fantastic experience: I did the 6 hour behind the wheel driving and at first was not all excited about it. It turned out not as bad as I thought it would be! I learned things I probably wouldn't have otherwise, such as specific steps to parallel parking. I also got a "practice" test that was super helpful which lead me to nailing my test when it counted. The instructor was super nice and made the three hour sessions go by quick!

Fantastic experience: Steamboat Driving School is amazing! Melanie is kind, helpful and above all educated. I know that I will have so much added confidence in my teen driving with her involved. Can't say enough about how awesome she is!

Negative experience: This driving school is very overpriced. If you want reasonably priced driving lessons, go to Craig or elsewhere. Also, today I was at an intersection waiting to turn right. I waited for a van that was going straight, then I went. However, when I started to drive, so did a man in the Steamboat Driving School car. I indeed had the right of way because I consciously waited for the van in front of him. I could also tell he was speeding on a 25 mph road. Perhaps people in driving school cars should learn the rules of the road before they teach.
