Fantastic experience: Great place to learn how to drive

Negative experience: Do not use. Impossible to get drive times. Waste of money. Office staff is ZERO help.

Positive experience: It's become impossible to get driving times and communication with the Aledo location is almost impossible.

Negative experience: When I made an appointment for a personal driver it gave me an account which showed me my appointment information, Except that it did not include a detailed address or more information about my instructor. It gave me the option to see the location by clicking the googles maps option but it kept directing me to the middle of the ocean or a trailer park, I kept calling and emailing during working hours on that Saturday since it said they closed at 6PM, but I did not get a single call back. I did however get a response from a different maverick building and the lady told me she doesn’t know what I should do and she gave me a phone number to call and said they’ll pick up the phones at 3PM and I still got no response. They sent me an email that was a “reminder” but in the reminder where it said the pick up location it was completely blank. I did not want to risk my safety by going to an unfamiliar location with no one confirming it. I really hope I get a full refund because I received 0 help. Update: after my appointment time passed someone decided to call me and ask if I’m canceling my appointment. I was trying to explain to her how I’ve been trying to get ahold of anyone who would help and no one did but she cut me off by saying “okay thank you” and hung up before I was finished. I do not recommend this place at all. Save your time and money.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience with Maverick, I took the practice test first (something I would highly recommend), and my instructor, Michael, was calm, polite, and informative. The actual road test was peaceful, with no undue stress. I believe the money I paid for both the practice and road test were well worth it, and will be recommending Maverick to my younger family members and friends looking to get their license.

Fantastic experience: We had the very best experience from the beginning. We called and spoke to Desiree and she was extremely helpful. Michael was my son’s driving instructor and he was the absolute best and so helpful. He made my son’s driving experience stress free and gave him a boost of confidence. We would highly recommend Maverick.

Fantastic experience: I was in need of a driver’s test and didn’t want to hassle with the long wait times of the DMV. In my area they are booked 5 months out. Michael my tester made me feel at ease, and also cracked a few jokes. The whole experience at Maverick was awesome. Would definitely recommend it.

Fantastic experience: This is a fantastic driving school. My daughter attended as a student and later took her driving hours and eventually her test. A true one stop shop and very convenient. Micheal was her driving instructor and he was very helpful. One piece of advice- if you want your child to be successful you must spend time with them behind the wheel. It is ultimately our responsibility as parents to ensure that they have had enough time behind the wheel to pass the test. I would not want my child driving if she couldn’t parallel park as this is a common need in DFW. When people need someone to blame for their failings, it is easy to look through a window when they should be looking in a mirror. If your child didn’t pass their test it’s ok. Take them home, practice and teach them what they need to know, and go back and try again. As for me, I am very happy with the service we received! Thank you Maverick for all of your help!

Negative experience: This was the worst experience and the most unprofessional place to have your teenager take driving lessons/test. Michael is absolutely the WORST. He was rude, condescending and made a teenage girl VERY uncomfortable/upset. He certainly should not be in this position. Terrible place! There are not a lot of choices for driving schools but this is by far the worst. Be warned! Additionally, no one is asking for rules to be "bent" but not making someone feel uncomfortable and talk down to them would be a goal for a reputable company. Note their response, that speaks volumes and look at all of their negative reviews. Shameful. Again be warned if you want a positive experience, won't find it here. Update: Daughter went to DPS and took the driving test- the $11 road test, not $75 or $100 like Maverick charges. I spoke to the DPS trooper/employee and was told that as long as someone does not have an accident or hit something during the parallel parking it is only points deducted not a fail like Maverick claimed. Note: The information that Maverick responds to is inaccurate information. Not going to go back and forth with the person that is responding to the post about their terrible instructor.

Maverick Driving Academy

Sorry Krisitie that you felt that way. Please note that this is the second time in over a year we have tested your daughter because yall lost the paperwork.
Because of that, we did not charge you for this retest even though we still paid Michael to do it. We cannot pass a student who fails certain portions of the test. Michael did go out of his way to teach your student how to do the part they failed the right way. He even offered another free retest.
We reviewed interaction on camera where Michael is trying to answer your questions as you take the paperwork and ignore him while telling him you will be leaving a review. Michael remained professional.

Update: every DPS grades differently. Some DPS offices in the area fail if they touch the curb on parallel parking. Which is not what the dps official you spoke with would agree with either. It falls in the category of Dangerous Act that is subjective between all state examiners. Our instructors were trained at dps locations that failed for not properly executing parallel parking. It's about making your student the safest driver they can be that's all. We offered more than one free retest to you. We do not have any hidden fees or sneaky advertising. We charge equivalent to what other driving schools do. And, you chose to come to a driving school for the test. You would not have gotten a free retest like we offer at any other driving school this side of the metroplex. Would you be leaving negative reviews if your daughter had passed? In addition, we went out of our way for the free retest even though she passed with us a year ago but yall failed to take the paperwork to dps to get it processed. Then you lost that paperwork, causing your daughter to get a ticket for driving without a license. We were just trying to help out when we already lived up to our obligation to you.
At the end of day, we just want your daughter to be a safe driver.

Note: We have the email chain where you confirmed what was told to us verbally about why yall needed the test this time. Do we need to post them on here? If anyone gets this far in this review and questions who is telling the truth, they can contact our office and we will show them the emails.
Be upset that your daughter didn't pass with us. That's understandable and is why we offer free retests, though this test was given to you for free. But, don't bash us because we did our job according to the DPS standards we have been trained in. We are in it to make the next generation safe drivers.

Fantastic experience: Got in for a drive test same day. Michael talked with my daughter and allowed her to ask any questions she wanted beforehand. This was important in helping her relax - she was so nervous about driving with someone she didn’t know. We did driving school with our older kids and I realize the value of that non-parental coaching now more than ever. Wish I would have reached out sooner for even more prep work.

Thanks so much Denise for the feedback. We will let Michael know.

Fantastic experience: I am glad that I found this place! We needed a road test-got it same day, super easy online booking. The girl at the desk is super helpful and knowledgeable of DPS procedure. Highly suggest using this service rather than waiting months for a road test appointment at the DPS. Very flexible and personable staff.

Negative experience: Wow, Kristie Coomer and Elizabeth Tinius are spot on with this school. Complaints on the rude dude go back at least 10 months and he is still employed. My daughter had basically same experience. That dude is the common denominator here. PERHAPS, this just isn't your jam fella. Try something else or use some people skills like the lady at the desk. You are providing a service after all. I absolutely would not recommend this school, ANY location, as long as Mr. I wish I didnt work here remains employed! As Kristie said, be warned, SAVE your money. DPS on the same did a fantastic job with my now licensed daughter. This place is just a money grab. And now you get to read yet another excuse from the school, you're welcome peeps!!! As expected the response was laden with excuses and bad assumptions. If that non-apologetic response was the owner folks, just wow.... just excuses with no plans for improvement. Why would anyone return to a business that causes a feeling of indignation? Let's get specific shall we, #1 he will not look you in the eye. #2 he used a condescending tone when speaking, #3 incorrect guidance, he told her not to adjust her mirrors since she drove to the school, which caused her not to adjust them at her DPS road test, her evaluator told her to always check and adjust mirrors regardless, #4 when the evaluator re-entered the school he said she's not getting a certificate in front of other patrons, a total disrespectful move, #5 he offered zero explanation except she bumped a cone during parallel parking, from what I learned from her it couldn't be seen at all not to mention he was apparently on his phone during that time. How does a student fail to earn a certificate with your school then aces the DPS road test hours later? Thats what I call a money grab Mr owner. Prove me wrong and refund the money for the literal 6 minutes he spent evaluating. Your school is at 2.8 and dropping, good luck in the future sir.

Maverick Driving Academy

Mr. Beverley,
The examiner you are bashing in this review actually went out of his way to test your daughter at the time you requested, as he lives 30 minutes away from the location.

It sounds like you are upset that your daughter did not pass the first time with us and because of that you should receive a refund. It sounds like, even though we still paid the examiner to test and offered a free retest. It sounds like you didn't like our examiner's personality, though he is equivalent to what you would have at DPS. It sounds like you don't like that he failed your daughter for hitting the cone, which is an automatic failure according to DPS, and is similar in size to the cones at DPS.
If it was a money grab, we wouldn't offer a free retest. Which is something you will not find at any driving school on this side of the metroplex. Being someone who is not from Aledo who would have had to check out schools before coming to us, you would think you would have acknowledge that in your review. Our cheaper prices is probably a big reason you came to us. DPS now allows driving schools to process the paperwork. One of our competitors charges $50 to do that. We've veen told by Aledo oarents that we could easily charge $100. Instead, we just charge $25. Not what you would call a miney grab.

If you read the reply to Mrs. Coomer, you will see we went out of our way to not nickel and dime her so we could try to accommodate her.

We welcome you to contact us and tell us exactly what it is that Michael did wrong. The fact that he tests up to 100 testers each month and has so few complaints on here is, in light of him having a job that is bound to have a few unhappy customers because of the nature of what he does, evidence that he is doing a good job. Those who leave these reviews about him tend to be those who refused the free retest and didn't appreciate the real life feedback he gave. Again, please contact us and let us know specifically what Michael did wrong outside of enforcing the DPS rules. And chances are, his feedback helped make your student successful at DPS.

We are here to serve the Parker County community. We try our best to provide good customer service and fill a need that would costs twice as much if you went to West Ft. Worth. We want to partner with you to make your child a safe driver. If you feel that is not happening, please let us know so we can get better. Our employees work for us because they have a genuine interest in investing in the safety of the next generation. If they come across as "rude" during a test, it's because they are trying to make your student the best driver they can be. And again, a free retest would have been available to you.

If you look at the dates of our previous negative Google reviews, most of them were more than 5 years ago. Under a different owner.

And, have you been to our other locations to be able to not recommend them? Let's leave an honest review please.

Negative experience: Booked in July ‘23 for the October ‘23 session. Woman and website stated 6p-8p. Get there the first day and are informed classes changed to 6:30p-8:30p. No notification before hand and no apology for the inconvenience. Daughter needed to make up 2 missed classes for after school activities, was told to come the following Monday and Tuesday. Get there today 10/9 and it’s closed. Website shows as open and again no notification or communication the facility would be closed.

Maverick Driving Academy

We are sorry about your experience. We had a period of transition with office managers and some things were dropped throught the cracks during that time. No excuses.

Negative experience: EXTREMELY RUDE!! We had an appointment 2 weeks ago and I called to notify that we would be late and left a message. When we got there, the secretary notified us they don’t answer the phone on Saturdays & said she would have to ask if we could still test. There is no door on the office, so I’m standing less than 5 feet away, I hear the conversation and the man never looks over and ignores us, while saying that we were way too late, although he was obviously doing paperwork. We had to pay $30 for a reschedule. Came back I. Today, and he was short, acted like we were putting him out, and was extremely rude to me and my son. Rude to me, whatever. Rude to my son - we’re done.

Maverick Driving Academy

Sorry for your experience Elizabeth. We are clear when you sign up about having to be on time as our examiner as other testers and locations to be at at designated times.

Negative experience: Come Monday morning 9/18/23 I will be calling the dps complaint office in Austin Texas on (M.D.S) in Aledo. I don't recommend this driving school to anyone.

Maverick Driving Academy

Sorry a about how you feel. However, it is the DPS rules in Austin that we have to comply with that sometimes make customers unhappy when they don't have all of the paperwork required. Since we never heard from DPS about your issue, we are assuming you were told the same thing by them.

Joe & Amber Ramirez 2 years ago

Negative experience: Waste of money. So many reasons to avoid and just train your teen drivers yourself. Lack of flexible scheduling, observation periods are ridiculous, and all the nickle and dime charges get old. Hard pass, save your money and do it yourself.

Maverick Driving Academy

Sorry that you feel that way. While there are times when it's harder than others to get drive times, we do give students 6 months to finish everything. Those who wait until the last minute are the ones who end up having issues. Like other driving schools, we do have fines when people don't show up for their drive times because we still have to pay our instructors for their time. That would be the only "nickle and diming" that we do.
Saying that, a study out of Texas AM says that a teeneager is 50% more likley to be in a deadly wreck their first year of drivint when they do parent taught driver's ed over a traditional driver's ed program. And, there is a bigger insurance discount when you go through a driving school.

Patty B 2 years ago

Negative experience: The classroom part of the school is fine although my son said how the instructor would go off on tangents about things that had nothing to do with driving at times. But my biggest gripe is trying to get his drive time scheduled. You have to pay $350 for the school and then pay $10 just to use their website. You have to be ready at 4:58 p.m. every Monday to even get a shot at getting a drive time and then you can only book one a week. If your kid isn't a homeschooler and available during the school day then getting a slot is like trying to get Backstreet Boys tickets in 1999. They have very few open slots for parents whose kids are in school. If you're lucky you might get the lovely 8p-10p option but you better run out and play the lotto if your lucky enough to snag a 5p-7p. They are as elusive as Big Foot. Maybe they should put some of their resources into those evening spots and less into the mid-day ones. Glad this is my last kid. I don't think I would go this route again.

Maverick Driving Academy

Thanks you for your feedback Patty. There are certain times of the year that are harder to get drive times than others. The fall is one of those. Other times of the year you we have drive times that never fill up. That's why, like other schools, we give six months to get everything done. And the issue you had did have to do with the struggle to hire employees because of covid that other small businesses struggled with at that time.

Don Dees 3 years ago

Negative experience: Waste of time, gas and $300. At the Aledo location they give out packets to the kids of extremely poorly photocopied driving manuals that the kids aren't allowed to write in because they reuse them with every class. You would think for the money you pay each kid could have their own. The "instructor" barely covers the basics while going off topic and rambling. If your kid goes to public school or has a job it's almost impossible to schedule the "academy" required 7 driving hours due to all the times that are ever available are midday from 11am-3pm during the week with a session MAYBE popping up on a Saturday if you're lucky which is usually 2-4pm. The parents are left to do the rest of the state required 30 hrs with the kids. Trust me save yourself $300 and just use Aceble or some other online class. The kids will be better off.

Maverick Driving Academy

Thanks Don for your feedback.
If you looked at your student's folder, you would have seen their own copy of notes that they had for the whole class. What you are referring to is the permit review packet that we do not allow to go home with the students most of the time. Those are classroom sets and we do have resources on our website they can use while at home to study for the permit that they take on the fourth day of class.
The 30 hours of driving required by the state is beyond our control. That is a state requirement.
During the time you were trying to get drive times, there was an industry shortage of driving instructors due to covid. Some schools would only allow drive times once a month. We were not one of those. You were able to get at least two drive times in a month at that time with us. Now, you can get all 7 in in one month.
Your kid is better off going through a driving school that Aceable, according to a study out of Texas AM. And, there is a bigger insurance discount.

Negative experience: Almost wrecked into one of their cars who decided they needed to yield to the frontage road while they were exiting the highway. They came to a dead stop on the off ramp and almost got their and my car rear-ended. The instruction can’t be great if this is how they’re driving on the roads with other people.

Maverick Driving Academy

Ty,
Do you think the instructor is really telling them to drive like this? Or, could it be that they are dealing with a student who already has a lot of anxiety and needs some patience and grace from people like you?

Marcella Waller 7 years ago

Negative experience: In August 2017, I paid Maverick $265 for drive time instruction for my daughter. Due to her busy after school schedule, we had to change plans and choose a different instruction option for her. In October 2017 I asked for a refund of my $265. We had not scheduled or used any of the drive times. I was told they would process my refund and send me a check. After numerous calls, in-person visits, and promises of the refund, I have yet to receive anything. I have also been told it was "in the mail". Now, they refuse to return my messages. Terrible customer service and business practices. Very disappointing!!
