The Alaska Driving Academy is dedicated to training safe drivers for both new students and those looking to obtain a CDL license. Our instructors are highly qualified, undergoing extensive background checks, meeting state requirements, and are current CDL Class 'A' drivers themselves. This ensures that our students receive the most current techniques, relevant information, and safe driving standards available.

At the academy, we teach not only the latest driving laws but also the dangers present on the road and inside the vehicle, as well as tips for avoiding distractions. We understand that being a driver comes with a great deal of responsibility, not just for oneself but also for passengers and other drivers on the road.

Our courses are led by an unmatched team on the Kenai Peninsula, including certified instructors with over 20 years of experience in teaching and coaching young drivers. Through practical driving experiences, our students develop the confidence needed to become great drivers.

Whether participating in our new driver training or commercial driver training programs, we are committed to developing tomorrow's workforce today.

Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about Alaska Driving Academy:

The "Harvard" of Trucking: Professional Training Beyond the License

Alaska Driving Academy distinguishes itself by producing professional drivers rather than merely handing out licenses. The program is rigorous, designed to build a solid foundation in safety, regulations, and vehicle operation. Instructors are highly experienced, often holding active Class A CDLs, and are dedicated to ensuring students master not just the test, but the actual skills required for a career in the industry.

Intensive Curriculum and Comprehensive Resources

The training covers all aspects of commercial driving, from federal regulations to hands-on vehicle maintenance. Students receive extensive study materials, including detailed booklets for pre-trip inspections and shifting techniques. The curriculum is structured to help students retain complex information, with daily one-on-one meetings to track progress and address individual struggles.

  • Comprehensive classroom theory on safety and regulations.
  • Detailed study packets for pre-trip inspections and gear shifting.
  • Daily personal check-ins with instructors to ensure understanding.

Hands-On Instruction and Private Driving Range

Students benefit from practical training on a private driving "ranch," allowing them to build confidence with backing, parallel parking, and shifting before entering public roads. The instructors are known for their patience and ability to break down complex maneuvers, such as double-clutching and backing a tractor-trailer, into manageable steps.

Supportive Community and Lodging

The academy fosters a strong sense of community, treating students like family. To facilitate this immersive experience, free lodging is provided at a lodge on-site, encouraging camaraderie and study groups among classmates. This supportive environment helps alleviate the stress of the intensive 20-day program.

Fantastic experience: I was so motivated to get my CDL A thinking it was going to be an easy task to take! The first day I was welcome to the lodge by coach Chris and his beautiful wife Missy! There was about 13 of us who was welcome and had a privilege to stay at the lodge for free and go to class! We all didn’t know each other but coach said we will start building and good relationship while we are all staying at the lodge! I didn’t understand that til the first day of class we had the introduction and honestly I felt so overwhelmed with the amount of homework that was given and the amount of things we had to learn! But I’m telling you this it was all worth it because ADA doesn’t just hand class A license to anyone you have to earn it! Coach Chris and every staff at ADA Donny and Matt and a lot others let us know we all have families that drive to and from places everyday and we don’t need just anyone driving on these roads we need safe drivers who are willing to not bend any rules and do it the right way! It was the toughest 1st week learning to multitask trying to do homework and studying and trying to just keep up with getting good grades in the classroom and seeing if I’ll be able to drive a manual that I never did before! But my crew at the lodge all put our heads together and became good friends supporting each other and trying to help out one another when one was struggling! Oh man and the pre trip I gotta say was the most hardest part to get down but thank god here at ADA they have booklets that they give you and it’s very helpful! Also at ADA they give us shifting packets and backing packets! Everything you need to know to become a successful truck driver is here at ADA! The 2nd week was man oh man was probably the most stressful week I was feeling like crying I can’t do it and about to give up! But ADA let you know it’s okay if you make mistakes as long as you fix it and learn from it! So we all study very hard and the last week it’s getting much better! I mean now I can say I know how to do a through pre trip because of ADA! I know how to be safe then sorry! I know how to back up the tractor and trailer now when I thought I couldn’t do it but ADA had a great instructor name Mike thank you for every teaching I will continue to remember! Driving manual is not easy y’all but thank god here at ADA they teach us to upshift and downshift and also have the best instructors to help you with the best ADA picture booklet called Shifting to study! I learned so much here at ADA! They made me feel welcomed and made me feel like family! I can say don’t just think you came here to get handed a CDL A license you will have to earn it! I can say I earned it and we all came here to learn it step by step and taught everything we need to know to join the trucking industry! It’s a blessing to meet ADA they also have a everyday one on one meeting where not only you come here to learn and study hard they sit you down and grade your test in front of us and ask you how your doing and how the family and other halves and doing! They actually make you feel like your welcome and care a lot about you! I’m letting you know if you love challenges and really want to learn the proper way to get your CDL A this is the number 1 place to come because you will learn everything from top to bottom! If it wasn’t for ADA schooling my motivation never would of came thru so thank you guys so much! It’s truly a blessing to come here and learn and fight this journey with you guys! Thank you so much Alaska Driving Academy for this opportunity to learn and become a successful driver!!! ADA

Fantastic experience: When I first arrive to school I was extremely worried about class work load. I knew it was going to be a lot of work. I have had friends come through and they said it was a lot they also told me it was very worth it. After completing the third day or class I had no worries about class work load. They tell you exactly what to study, how long to study and how it will correlate to driving and the industry . I am extremely thankful for the effort all the coaches and instructors have put in to help me reach the finish line.

Fantastic experience: My CDL training here at ADA had me in so many mid emotions/challenges. At first I was worried about many things we are going to do. Like I was worried about shifting, because I personally have zero experience on shifting especially it’s a Semi-truck, and I was worried about pre-trip. My backing up with a big Semi-truck. But now I have face all the learnings and hands-on driving practice, where I gained a lot of understanding of operating a semi-truck safely and efficiently, all the mix classroom/learning from detailed pre-trip, inspections, to doing my best to master my backing up and navigating into tight spaces. Also focusing on the road rules and regulations to making sure that I am fully aware and prepared. Thank you to my coaches/instructors who helped improve all that I need to learn and understand. As well as building up my confidence for being in the program training and teaching me to ensure I was fully prepared for the demands of professional trucking on the road. Thank you to all the teachers/instructors for your hard work teaching and to ensure we are all successfully completing this milestone program we are in and obtaining all our CDL

Fantastic experience: ALSKA DRIVING ACADEMY was recommended to me by my family & a friend. I knew that coming to ADA is gonna be hard, tough, and it’s going to be a big challenge for me. I attended ADA not having no knowledge whatsoever or understanding what truck driving is. I doubted myself and also thought that I would probably fail. First day in class was a little overwhelming and you can tell that coach Chris means business. Coach Chris holds everyone to a very higher standard and teaches you how to push yourself to do your best. He definitely gave out really clear INSTRUCTIONS and EXPLANATIONS on EVERYTHING. A week passing by working with the team of instructors in and out of the classroom I knew I could and any doubts were stripped away. They are dedicated in their teachings of safety BEFORE, DURING, and on the ROAD. They are extremely knowledgeable and willing to in effort to make sure we as well ! You couldn’t ask for a better driving school or more dedicated instructors ! Hat of to ALASKA DRIVING ACADEMY!!!
