Xplor-Int Dirt Bike, ATV and Adventure Motorcycle School Nottingham, PA 19362: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I recently attended the one day ADV Rider course. There were 5 students that winter day, and conditions were what I would consider perfect for the lessons presented--cool weather and slightly sketchy traction. Just what one is likely to find on an adventure ride. Anyway, there was a variety of experience levels present, but everyone came away having learned, or improved upon, new skills. The course is considered basic, and it did stress the basics, but by mastering these techniques one becomes more proficient and comfortable on the motorcycle. Speaking for myself, the instructor was very patient and took all the time I needed to answer my questions and make sure I understood what he was explaining. He would describe the lesson and then demonstrate it on his motorcycle so we would see just what he wanted us to work on. As the day went on, I found I was gaining confidence by applying the lessons we had been building on so that by the end of the day, when we did a ride around the farm and on some wooded trails, I was much more relaxed and putting into practice the techniques I had learned. Being a fairly new, older rider, I was a bit nervous that I would be in over my head even though the course is described as basic. That concern was quickly put to rest by the crawl-walk-run approach used. I now feel that, by continuing to work on these basic skills I now have, I can take further training. So to sum up, even though I got just about what I had hoped for by taking this course, it did leave me with a strong desire to continue training, knowing that I have the fundamentals now that will serve as the base to build from. And even if I don't take any further classes, I am much better prepared for the type of riding I like to do. But to come away from any educational endeavor with a desire to go back for more shows that the course and instructor have succeeded. Thanks!
George,
Thank you so much for your review and also attending our ADV Riders Course. Hope to see you out on the forest service roads.

Negative experience: I was incredibly disappointed with my experience at the Nottingham location. I booked the 6-11 year old CRE beginner dirtbike class for my daughter. I informed them she had NO experience with dirtbikes. I expected her to be in a class with other children in that age group. Reality was quite different. When we arrived my daughter and I were both placed in a group with 5 other people. 3 experienced adults, 1 experienced older teen and 2 inexperienced 14-ish year old boys. When the class began the instructor began reading from a MSF instructor handbook. He was rushing, rapid-fire through what he was reading. Then he began to give instructions on how to start the dirtbike and continued in the same manner, rushing as if he was late for a date and just wanted to get through the material so he could leave. When my daughter got upset because she did not understand anything, his manner with her was impatient and brisk. We asked him to go through it again with the same results. After the 3rd time he said it was clear she did not want to do this and he could not go over it again and he was not going to hold up the rest of the class just for her. My daughter was so embarrassed and upset she just left the class. It was very clear to me this "instructor" had very little experience teaching children and no desire, really, to do so. When I questioned how he could expect children to understand with him going os fast he became condescending and stated that 6 year olds and adults got the exact same class and it was set up exactly like this. And he could not be held responsible for what happened since my daughter clearly did not want to be here. There was also the issue of the 14 year old boys and their irresponsible behaviour that the instructor just ignored instead of stopping the class to correct it. The boys were constantly riding too close to others, cutting people off and not paying attention. The instructor would say a brief statement about it not following close but never addressed the boys specifically and the behaviour was allowed to continue. I feel like this company was only concerned with taking people's money rather than on any learning.
I’m sorry your experience was disappointing. Yes you where place in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation, closed range course, what is designed for people who have no or have experience riding off-road motorcycle. It does not matter if the participants does or does not have experience. The curriculum is followed, 6 out of 7 attendance at this class had no experience riding a motorcycle off-road properly however.
When we started with the class, we did a welcome and student introductions, I was informed by your daughter Amelia that she was very scared to ride one of those things.
As we proceeded with lesson to motorcycle setup, pre-ride inspection, range signals, rules of the range and correct mounting and dismounting procedures the first issue of misunderstand began. Amelia was assigned motorcycle and became terrified and started crying because of the size of the bike, so we switched the motorcycles to accommodate her to a smaller displacement. Again she was un-clear how to mount and dismount a motorcycle. So we went over those skill sets again, as she continued to cry and be upset. As we discussed and facilitated the next lesson plan “controls” it was clear that Amelia had no understanding or the meanings of the controls. A parent youngster OHV PDF guides was e-mailed to each participant to study prior to the classes for kids to study with their parents to help facilitate learning the controls.
As we moved on to engine starting, stopping and moving the motorcycle each step of the way was statically practiced and actively practice multiple times in the maximum allotted time slots. Then I was informed by you and Amelia that she did not understand any of the objectives as she continued to crying and stated that she was scared of doing this. A small break was given to the have Amelia gain her composure.
A we moved on to step one shift to 1 st gear and rocking the motorcycle as demonstrated again by me, now the participants had the opportunity to practice their skills. At this point I checking the individual riders multiple times, it came to my attention Amelia was just struggling with this objective and when I walked up to her, she stated to me she does not want to do this crying and being very upset. I informed her okey that is not a problem i’ll advise your mother as she walked off crying to the observing area. We finished the objects with the remainder of the class in the maximum allotted time frame. Afterwards during a break, you came and questioned me if it is normal for a new young students to struggle with the friction zone and stall-out and not understand the objectives. Then you asked me if she should go into an other type off class for younger people. I stated we follow the same MSF DirtBike lesson plan for kids 6 to 66 years old, I do not want to take your money for additional lesson as everything stay the same and it really works great for other participants. We can not teach students how not to be petrified off a DirtBike, this Off-road activity is not for everybody.
The issue on following to close with the 13 year old twins was addressed and corrected imdiately and also read in the objectives, evaluations points and directions of each lesson plan. As always away from the main group during very early am break, the children where advised of their close but still safe riding behaviors.
I very glad you completed the MSF, DirtBike Closed Range Exercises and good luck in your DirtBike riding off-road.
Your daughter, Amelia is more then welcome to rejoin us for free at our next up coming MSF DirtBike School if she is not afraid to ride a motorcycle.
Since you drop the DirtBike twice and broke the clutch-lever, I anticipate a new clutch-lever to be at my office this week.
Sincerely,
Fantastic experience: One word. Amazing!!
