Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about PowerRide University:

PowerRide University is a highly regarded motorcycle training school, perfect for beginners and those looking to enhance their riding skills. Our dedicated instructors, including Jessica, JJ, and Phil, are praised for their patience, knowledge, and engaging teaching styles. Many students have expressed their satisfaction with the supportive learning environment, where no matter your experience level, you'll feel comfortable progressing.

Students particularly appreciate the emphasis on safety and the focus on practical skills, making it an excellent choice for those seeking to obtain their motorcycle license. Many have reported feeling confident after completing the courses and have successfully passed their skills tests, thanks to the thorough coaching and feedback received.

However, some feedback indicates areas for improvement, particularly regarding communication during classes and the pacing of instruction. A few students found the classroom sessions less engaging and suggested more focus on essential safety topics.

Despite these critiques, the overall consensus is that PowerRide University offers an invaluable educational experience, helping many riders become safe and confident on the road. We invite you to join us and invest in your future as a skilled rider.

  • Positive aspects: Experienced and knowledgeable instructors, supportive learning environment, emphasis on safety, practical skill development.
  • Areas for improvement: Classroom engagement, communication, and pacing of instruction.

Fantastic experience: Just took the M2 training course with my hubby and had the best time. Instructors Jessica and JJ were the best and we highly recommend.Their patience, directions/instructions, teaching style and motorcycle knowledge made them great teachers and I can't sing their praises enough. If you plan on taking this course, I highly recommend specially requesting them specifically, you will not be disappointed. No matter what your motorcycle knowledge or skill level is, you will feel comfortable learning under their direction! Both were fun and mild mannered, so if your the type that doesn't like being yelled at and prefers to learn in a supportive and calm environment, then I really suggest Jessica and JJ.

Negative experience: Unfortunatelly, I could not find this course helpful. Instructors (Mr. Stephen and his assistant) method of training was so disappointing. Considering and successfully completing five-hour E-Course and attending two consecutive days of five-hour skill practice sessions with the instructors under. I completed the entire course, including the five practice tests, without being disqualified. However, I was informed that I did not pass the class due to my scores, which was surprising given my performance compared to other students. While I am not upset about not obtaining my license, I believe there are areas where the course instructors method of training could be improved. The instructors could enforce stricter standards during tests but provide more helpful guidance during practice sessions. Unfortunately, I found the opposite to be true. Instructors should not scare or discourage students during their practice. On the second of the practice during the skill practice 10 or 11 Instructor Stephen stopped me and told me that I an struggling to the level that even I am putting everyone at risk. I got confused and asked why and how? I did not do anything crazy. Mr. Stephen asked if it is because of the hot weather, I can leave the class without any penalties and can join another class for free. I did not get any specific explanation therefore I said no I want to continue and promissed if there is anything I promise I will correct that. So he allowed me to contine to my course. Now the question is, if I was really dangerous to everyone why the instructor did not stop me at the spot and disquallify me from the course. Second if I was really dangerous how I did not do anything crazy or make any accident. While I successfully went all the the way through the end of class and also successfull completed all the 5 skill test and did not get disqualified during the test while there were two students who got didqualified during the test. I kindly request from instructors not to discourage students during the class. Instructors are there to help us and give us courage. To be noted, during the class more than half of the students fall the bike (nothing something serious but because not having a good balance) On the beginning of second day of class I was unfortunate again and while making a U-turn I braked and lost my balance and fell down the bike slowly. But what made that moment even worse when Instructor Stephen came to me and instead of asking about my safety he said insurance compnies do not like this. I got so disappointed. One thing that I found waste of time is the reading section of each skill. The way instructors were reading it were semmed so careless and unimportant. Instructor from Nepal (sorry that I do not remember his name) was even mumbling and pronouncing the words incorrectly which at some point made it so hard to understand. As an immigrant my English is also not good but as a professional if I am tasked something I would make sure I am doing that correctlly and paying more attention. At the end I would like to thank you PowerRide University for this platform but for sure I want to see more improvement. Also, would like to thank you both of the instructors ( Mr. Stephen and Nepali Instructor) for their time and sharing their knowledge.

Fantastic experience: What a blast it is to participate as a student on the MSF BRC course. Thank you to both instructors, Nic and Jess, from PowerRide University for two awesome days on the range. They had to deal with different types of learners and succeeded on getting them all to learn how to ride a motorcycle safely. It is not a come and get your license course, but a get you basic skills to build on top of course. If you want to get your license without putting the effort, do not waste your money. But if you want to invest on your future as a safe rider, then you are on right place.

Fantastic experience: When I signed up for basic MSF course I've had no experience at all! I was so nervous but the course was so much fun and the coach (I believe his name is Isaac) was absolutely amazing. He was very patient with all of us, he was supportive and whenever he saw one of us struggling with a particular exersize he would come and explain again and walk us through it. I went to the course thinking how is it even possible to learn how to ride within 2 days but it sure is. Of course we will all need more practice but we all passed the test and got an endorsement. Right after graduation I went and bought a bike and today I was riding in my town!!! Also while riding today i had to do a very tight u turn and I NAILED IT without putting a foot down. I wish my coach saw it lol Anyways, don't ve scared! Sign up for the course and you will learn so much! Just remember to get a good but comfy riding gear (it makes a huge difference ), go there with an open mind and be ready to learn, listen to your coach!!

Negative experience: There are probably better venues for learning than this. There were two instructors there. The one with whom I had actual face-time was a particularly useless, angry, older "gentleman", who had no concept of enunciation (mumbled too much, making instructions difficult to hear). I had an asthma attack because all (about 10) of the bikes were so close together while dumping exhaust. I asked for a moment to take a dose from my inhaler, so I could continue riding. The instructor just grumpily replied, "There are no moments." And since I couldn't really breathe, I got washed from the class (no refund). I mean, I would understand if I was truly holding up the class, but they were taking 15min breaks in between drills (due to cold, wet weather). I couldn't even get a third of that to address a medical issue. The stakes and risks were so low - just riding in a straight line, switching between neutral and first gear in an otherwise empty parking lot. Not enough patience nor understanding for a place that claims to be "the best start for brand new riders." I'd rather learn on my own at my own pace than deal with the likes of that again. TLDR: If you actually want to LEARN how to ride a motorcycle, don't go here. If you already know how to ride and just want the insurance discount, this is the DMV-approved formality for you.

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

Ashley, I am so sorry you were not happy your class. It sounds like the coach should have been more helpful with your medical condition. I was not there and he does have other students to be concerned about and try to respect everyone's time. This class is not always for everyone. It is a national curriculum from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and we are not allowed to vary from it. I would ask that you please contact the office on Monday to speak with our director. Our goal is to get you riding and do what we can to work with you.

Fantastic experience: I had a good time with two excellent coaches and a great group of people also taking the course with me. Jessica and Feran (think that was his name if I'm wrong sorry) were really good at coaching and keeping everyone focused and engaged. Every time I stopped overthinking things and listening to the tips the coaches gave I started to get the hang of things a lot better. Cannot wait to improve on the skills I learned and get better as a rider. Thank you guys for a great experience, as someone who had no experience on a motorcycle prior I definitely recommend taking this course.

Fantastic experience: My experience was great. The instructor Steve H. and Mark were 10/10! You can tell they are both well-seasoned veterans and know what they are talking about. I had a couple areas that needed improvement. The RiderCoaches are very good at keeping their eyes on your hands and feet while going through the motions, and quick to tell you how to correct them. I went into this class with maybe 5% knowledge on how to ride. I left with my confidence boosted so high I went home and immediately hopped on my bike and rode for another 2 hours. For those considering taking this class, i hope you get Mark and Steve H., they will make sure you know the basics before you leave the class.

Fantastic experience: Excellent course taught by two (Mark and Steve) extremely knowledgeable instructors. Knowledgeable from an informational standpoint, and from their decades of practical perspective. The instructions were clear and comprehensive during the exercises/demos. The guidance and coaching was stern, but constructive and definitely necessary for safe riding. Mark and Steve both provided one-on-one coaching and individual feedback based on their observations. They shared a lot of their personal experiences, do’s and don’ts, as well as tips that I believe are vital to pass the course and even more so when riding on the street after the course. My only drawback is the course length. I believe if there was an additional day, or two, it would definitely help with learning the maneuvers and establishing confidence for the practical test. Separate from course length, as my classmate discussed, having us start on a smaller/mini bike for a few exercises then progressing up to the mt03 would help solidify the maneuvers. All in all, I highly recommend the course and these instructors for anyone seeking to complete MSF. Learned a lot and appreciate the experience and instruction. Good job Steve and Mark! Ride safe gentlemen!

Negative experience: The instructor I had was not helpful at all he would walk off to the other coach to talk while we would do our practice on the bike and would give me an attitude if I made a small mistake. Then, he would bring another person to try and help. Lastly, the instructions in the classroom weren't helpful at all, just random notes and comments and the written test. I'm not going back here.

Negative experience: Honestly this has to be the most unprofessional riding course company in the REGION. The receptionist named coco was okay but if I had too many questions she would quickly lose patience and become short with me so that was the first red flag but I was able to look past it. I got to the class it’s two middle age men teaching the class, my highest degree is a standard high school diploma, I owned a franchise for 10 years and I have never trained employees the way that they teach, never.I knew they had no background in teaching during the first ten minutes of meeting them absolutely no background. They belittle you and lose patience very quick and come up with nick names for students who cannot digest the information quick enough. One of the instructors has a 45 which is completely cool I Cary every single day but he got it on his hip even pulls it on in front of us which is completely unnecessary and unprofessional to put it in his motorcycle trunk while giving us directions rather doing it discretely. To top it off they do not treat me like a customer, they treat me like I was court ordered to go there for something I did as a punitive punishment. Here’s an example when the instructor emphasized for new motorcyclist to not hit him he would reiterate it over and over and would state this word for word, “if you hit me with the bike you are going to go to go down way harder then I do and it is going to hurt” with the 45 on his side. I’m looking at this guy like are you serious he repeated this exact statement to all of us more then twice on the first day before we even got on the bike. Why are you building up anxiety this is a classroom and your fear mongering us. How are we going to digest any information during duress lol. The other instructor is just like his buddy no patience and they both mimick the classmates who cannot get things down pat and nick name them like big bullies my name was piano fingers because allegedly I could not listen in regard to clutch and braking, lol what part of any of this is professional. So to wrap it up yesterday I had a question for the instructor drew who also feels the need to show us his gun lol completely not necessary conceal your firearm and keep it to your self. I was super respectful to both instructors despite there immature attitudes my willingness to learn and follow directions was there but I suffer from bipolar 1 schizophrenia and depression for over 17 years. I interrupted very lightly on drew to ask a question but keep in mind I follow all the rules comply listen meet halfway you name it I might of asked a question before he finished speaking and the guy completely belittles me In front of the whole class about me interrupting and I let him ramble on and he kept kept going until I could not take it and told him you are disrespecting me and I don’t appreciate it and I suffer from mental illness every day and do an amazing job hiding it and treating everyone with dignity. It was my first redirection ever from him in regards to interrupting him and the guy could not control his emotions I let him talk down on me in-front of 7 other men for a whole minute before I interrupted him. When I made him aware of my mental illness and the fact I won’t take the disrespect much longer he did not care to mediate like any immature prideful being “I’m sorry you feel that way” brother you are a business I am you customer I compensated you 350 for this course why the hell are you talking to me like trash. So then and there I knew he would have it out for me so my wife insisted that I don’t go to the last days class for they would test our skills before our completion of the course. My wife told me don’t go there not going to pass you. As we go and progress through evaluations (the test ) I was able to make it through all of them with no real mess up or incident. At the end of it they fail me with no real cause. I’m disputing this with my bank as soon as I wake up. This was unethical completely

Jacob, I regret hearing that you did not have a good experience with PowerRide University. We do hold our coaches to very high standards and they have years of teaching happy students. The program designed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the State of Virginia is rigid and requires the training be done in a orderly sequence and kept on schedule. It unfortunately does not leave extra time for students who need a bit extra help. I don't know exactly where things went wrong with you personally. I know that Coko spent extra time answering your questions and even sending you pictures of approved gear but you still showed up with incorrect shoes and yoga pants. The safety of each student and our instructors is our top priority. Our coaching team is constantly receiving quality assurance inspections from our internal team and the state of Virginia. The testing is done by a point system and is very regulated. We do take all feedback seriously and we will work with the coaches to see what can be done to improve our communication and teaching. We are constantly making improvements when we can based on this student feedback. If you need any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Fantastic experience: Came in here with zero experience. Wayne and Angel were my rider coaches. They had a lot of character and made the class very enjoyable. They are very patient and correct you when you’re doing something wrong. Negative experience: I was 20 minutes late to the second class after really enjoying the first day. I was given no refund, no makeup class. My only option is to pay the entire course fee plus another insurance fee. Retaking the entire course. Again. I will not be returning, nor would I recommend this company. If ANYTHING makes you miss a class or run late, you are completely out of luck. No, I should not have been late. But at least offer the second day (A half day no less) for a small fee.

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

Mr. Marin,

The RiderCoach reported to us that you were actually 45 minutes late on the second day. It would not be fair to the other six students who would have to wait for you to catch up. We do work with our students and empathize with life's challenges; however, not at the expense of other students schedules.

You could reschedule another course for a small reschedule fee, but would have to take the entire course as stated in our terms and conditions as it is a Virginia State Requirement.

Feel free to contact us if you would like to resolve your issues.

Negative experience: SMH. Instructors…especially Andy…are impatient, demeaning, and unprofessional. I dropped my friend off 30 min early and he automatically had an attitude. My friend is Asian and has an accent (not sure if that had something to do with it). I’m ex military (honorably discharged), and it felt like the instructor was an insecure drill instructor. Make sure to hit record when questioning them and their disrespectful tactics. Waste of $400.

Negative experience: Horrible service! I don’t recommend this course for anyone that has no experience riding. They did not offer enough range time for someone who needs practice on a bike. Even though their website clearly states that you have 10 hours of riding time on the range. I attended this class last weekend and I was not giving the full 10 hours we paid for, due to waiting on previous class to finish their range time and testing on the second day. We started late on the bike range on both days. We only received about 6 hours range time and that included the skills test. Several people, including myself stated we needed more time and we did not feel confident but was told we would be alright. They did however tell the ones who failed that they could take the course again for half price. Why would anyone take the course again, if they do not provide the service clearly stated on their website. I will sure notify my friends and family to stay away from this course. Not the experience I was expecting.

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

Brenda, We are very sorry that your range time was less than you expected. Many factors go into the estimated time on the range including class size, student skill level, weather, etc. Our goal is always to follow the curriculum and give each student the required practice during each exercise. We can't hold up the entire class if one or two students are struggling on a particular exercise. Our coaches have many years of experience and normally can tell when a student will need extra help. They often offer remedial training outside of class which I believe you received at no charge. Once a student has mastered the skills necessary during remedial training they are welcome to re-enroll in a future class to get their endorsement at a discounted rate. As a motorcycle training company our goal is to provide everyone with excellent training. We feel a responsibility to make sure all of our graduates are ready to ride and have the fundamentals to ride safely even if this means slowing down the process for an individual student.

Melanie Fox 3 years ago

Negative experience: Dishonest business practices. I don’t recommend this course to anyone

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

Ms. Fox , It is regrettable that you were not able to complete the motorcycle training to earn your license endorsement this past weekend. Our priority in training must be your safety and the safety of all other students who are participating in the course. You stated you did not feel safe at the start of a range exercise, therefore we stopped you from further range training. We recommended that you stay and watch and scheduled remedial training so that you could be better prepared and re-enroll when you were ready. We have successfully trained over 10,000 students in the last three years and on occasion students take the course more than one time to achieve the objective of passing the course. We are regulated by the Virginia DMV and have to follow strict protocol to assure a student has mastered the necessary skills taught.

Positive experience: I took the Basic Rider Intro to 2 wheels class. It was a really great way to practice skills on a motorcycle. However, I believe a lot more emphasis could have been put on the classroom portion or just basic safety stuff. Riding with proper gear, riding like you're invisible, the severity of crashing, etc were not emphasized. I just feel like that's an important part if you're willing to license a person.
