Fantastic experience: Brought my son. Ms. Claiborne was awesome and very helpful!

Fantastic experience: The woman at the front desk was very kind, and the testing instructor gave easy to understand instructions. I walked in with no appointment, and the entire sign-in/testing process took about 30 minutes to complete. The next available appointment at the DPS was 3 months out, so I appreciate how quickly I was able to get my test done here.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this establishment. I haven’t taken a road test in over 10 years and scheduled a practice road test prior to my actual test, to get my license back. The tester was very professional and honest about areas of improvement but also very personable. He shared simple things to fix , that many us who having been driving for some time forget about and would actually cost us points on a test.

Negative experience: They are very rude and unprofessional ! they also charge extra cash above the insurance. Dislike i didn’t like at all!! Very disappointed!

Transitions Driving Academy

Hmmm, we're not certain who you are "Ra Al", as we don't recognize this name [as it is spelled] as being a Client of ours. We, at Transitions, do not practice being rude and unprofessional with our Clients. We're sorry if you felt that way if you were indeed a Client of ours. Please do be more specific about how you were treated, what you didn't like, and what disappointed you, as we're interested in resolving any issues a Client has with us. We're unsure what you mean by "extra cash above the insurance", as we don't charge anything for insurance. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: I had a license when I lived in California, but between a hold on that license to due to an unpaid ticket, it expiring while waiting for the hold to release and not having access to a vehicle for the road test, it took me a bit to get my Texas license. Thankfully, Driving Schools are now allowed to give the test since I did not have a vehicle. I searched several schools and happend to find Transitions just a few miles away from me. I took their 6 hour class which was a good refresher and I had them administer the road test and rented their vehicle. All instructions were clear even though my brain was busy reminding myself not to do certain things, a few times it took an extra few seconds to process! LOL! My points deductions were over small errors and a few, I felt after the fact I had done. For instance, I stopped a bit too far and I realized I went too far too late. I am now once again a licensed driver! I do recommend them! It was a great easy process! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Claiborne! --Sandra Longs

Negative experience: Came in to take a driving test. I felt completely uncomfortable with the driving tester. He was very cold and had a negative vibe from the start. The road we merged into had construction, I asked to clarify the immediate right turn. He jumped and was very rude to tell me he will not repeat himself. That rough attitude is not called for. He makes you feel more nervous then neccessary.

Transitions Driving Academy

Please understand that examiners don't do things that make testers uncomfortable or treat them cold as Hector has said. Doing that would put the examiners life in danger and that's avoided at all times. Leaving for the exam Hector was given clear instructions on how to proceed twice in addition to all signs telling him he was in a 'Turn Only' lane (which avoids construction). Hector disqualified himself during the exam by exceeding the speed limit and putting the vehicle in a position where another vehicle had to avoid hitting his vehicle. Examiners instructions don't make a driver speed or put a car in danger. Hector's 1 star is because of his actions, not the examiners. All examiners are respectful and courteous to all drivers as you will see when you come in for an exam. Hector obviously wanted help and a pass without consequences for his actions and has chosen to blame the examiner. Examiners grade exams, drivers pass the exam by following instructions with no additional help. All other drivers did pass on that same day without incident.

Fantastic experience: Thank you so much Transitions Driving Academy! Highly recommend them if you’re looking for somewhere to take your road test ASAP. The staff was very friendly and patient with me as I was struggling with getting my current insurance info but they didn’t rush me or anything and I appreciate that so much. The tester was also very friendly and I didn’t feel as nervous as I thought I would. Thanks again!!!

Negative experience: Extra charge for everything, didn't accept my insurance from my phone, stated that's its invalid when it's clearly valid in the state of Texas. Then made me pay a extra 35$ to rent their vehicle, because she did not want to print my insurance from my phone. I even insisted on paying to have it printed and the lady clerk said they did not have a printer on sight. ALSO HAVE VIDEO OF THE DRIVING INSTRUCTOR GIVING ME THE MIDDLE FINGER IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE. !PLEASE CONTACT IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE VIDEO! NO FALSE ACCUSATIONS ARE BEING GIVEN, I HAVE EVIDENCE/PROOF

We will be asking Google to remove this review. This person is not in our database as someone who used our facility. However, an individual did come to our facility and tried to bully the office staff and an examiner, tried to block the examiner from exiting a vehicle, and yelled at the examiner. The examiner stood his ground and has turned this matter over to the Mesquite Police Department. Anyone that schedules an appointment gets several emails from the office regarding how documents have to be submitted for an exam. The requirements are set by the Texas Department of Public Safety and aren't changed by testing facilities. We will speak to Google regarding this issue as well because we're hoping they stop letting people like this post when they didn't use a business. This person was only here to cause problems but found an individual whom he couldn't bully.

Fantastic experience: I was nervous but everything went great the driving instructor was nice and calm and explained how the test was graded and what I should and shouldn't do before starting and the lady in the office was really polite and and got me in and out

Negative experience: Extremely disappointed. The school was unprofessional In my opinion. The school was never open punctually, the placed smell of old water and the cars weren't in the best condition. the whole class time he would warn us about what would happen if you don't learn how to drive properly instead of actually teaching us how to drive properly. I was very disappointed , and no offense to the instructors who are nice people but I simply did not enjoy attending this school ALSO , you schedule driving sessions with the instructors and they give you a mock test after your sessions , however after 2 sessions (out of a total of 6 or 8) they just decided to gave me the mock exam and I couldnt have any other sessions scheduled. I honestly felt completely scammed It's been a year since I've attended and I really hoped they have stepped up their game. Definitely not worth the money.

Positive experience: I took a road skills test with Transitions and the whole experience, from booking the test, to taking the test, was smooth. The lady at the front desk was friendly and the examiner was very professional. I would have given 5 stars if not for a small mistake on my scorecard that ended up with me having to go back to get it sorted out, after waiting for ages at the DPS. Anyways everyone makes mistakes and they fixed it.

Jason Sawyer 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: Extremely friendly receptionist and the test driver was kind as well! Had a great experience here and I do not understand the bad reviews at all. Definitely recommend this establishment for anyone doing their road test.

Oneida Navarro 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: I took my driving test here and had a great experience. I brought my brother, my mother in law, my father in law, my husband and now I’m bringing my sister in law. Everything is so smooth and they make it so easy to schedule an appointment. I will always recommend transition driving academy. And no i didn’t have to be PERFECTLY parallel parked like someone commented. If you can’t parallel park you won’t pass that’s it. Not once have I had a “she said he said situation or anyone threatening to hurt me. All of the testers I’ve met are very professional and easy going. Like I said, 5 people have already tested at this location and I’m bringing a 6th one.

Negative experience: Serbicio De lo peor ,,primero te piden el dinero y después x cualquier pretexto x más mínimo te canselan y te cobran más dinero

Transitions Driving Academy

Google will be contacted to remove this review because it is frivolous. The named individual has not used this company and is likely doing this to promote another business. No one at this facility speaks Spanish so he couldn't and didn't speak to anyone at this location.

T Young 7 years ago

Negative experience: Only accumulated 11 pts during my driving test (passing score), but was failed due to a rubbing a curb on a tight turn. Told the tester “that was messed up” and he started calling me names and threatening to fight me, even approaching my vehicle in an attempt to intimidate me. I have filed a formal complaint with DPS. This guy clearly had a chip on his shoulder and I believe my failure was due to this. Save your money and go somewhere else. Update - I find it extremely disrespectful to make false accusations. I did not yell any obscenities at the tester, simply stated “that’s messed up” and THEN HE began to threaten to assault me while also calling me names. In addition, DPS did confirm they will be following up on testing process’ at this facility to ensure they are being followed correctly. They also provided paperwork that I will be submitting to the licensing branch in regards to threats of assault made by your tester. Your attempt to drag my name through the mud with lies will not go unreported. And again to all other possible customers, DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THESE PEOPLE, threats of assault should never be taken lightly.

Transitions Driving Academy

From the owners: This individual has chosen to tell you a completely false story. We won't get into a "he said, she said" discussion, but do know that Taylor Young failed the exam due to his own inability to operate a motor safely and in accordance with the Department of Public Safety and State guidelines. Taylor yelled obscenities at a state certified examiner because he disqualified himself during the exam. Examiners grade exams. They do not drive the vehicle, nor by state law, can they help a driver pass an exam. This particular driver wanted something for nothing or wanted the examiner to lie, which the examiner will not do. All clients receive respect and the upmost professionalism at this facility. Taylor has not told you the truth in any of his comments. Transitions will never violate state policy for the sake of good reviews. The staff is honest and professional in their handling of all clients. You can call Transitions and speak directly to an owner if you have questions regarding this issue. This review is only here because Taylor failed the exam due to his driving and the examiner would not falsify his documentation. We hope you understand that we are truthful and will never lower the bar because of someone's false statements.

Negative experience: If you don't do the parallel parking perfectly you fail instantly and dont even get to drive, even though 99% of the time in a practical situation you probably will never be in a situation where you had to parallel park but it's weighed so heavily that they don't even let you drive until you do the parallel parking and if you don't get it you instantly fail RIP your $80+ waste of time

Transitions Driving Academy

All testers are given the guidelines for parallel parking prior to the exam. Unfortunately this tester has blamed the facility for his inability to meet the states minimum requirement for parallel parking. Not only was this explained in the vehicle, it is also posted in the building for every tester to read before getting into the vehicle for the exam. I'm not aware of any examiner ever asking that the the vehicle be "perfect". It is a testers responsibility to meet the minimum standards. An examiner cannot violate state standards whether you are at an actual Department location or a 3rd party site.

Negative experience: A rip off and a head ache!!

Negative experience: Stopped by to get some information during normal daytime business hours and they were closed with no hours of operation posted.I went right down the street to enroll my daughter in at Sears instead.Sears is always open and always available for questions.

Tim W 8 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible. Should have known because initial communications were spotty and they leave you hanging unless you keep calling. Arrived at the reserved "slot" for my daughter to take road test only to find out there were at least 4 others in front of us and only one tester. The promotions all say you will only be there 30 to 45 minutes. We were there 1.5 hrs in very crowded office entry. Office was horribly disorganized and the lady working was brand new had no idea what she was doing. Most kids coming back from road test were failing which made my daughter nervous and when the instructor got in the car with her he just went thru all the things she could do wrong before the test. She failed by temporarily accellerating 5mph more than the speed limit on a dangerous and tricky city corner and he immediately failed her and had her stop and return from testing immediately. She tested the next day at a place in Rowlett and got nearly a perfect score and the service was superior in every way from appt, arrival, test, departure. It did cost a little more but well worth it. I just got the serious sense that the instructor at Transitions knew the office was a mess and he was in more of a hurry to get back and resolve disastrous office issues than giving each kid a fair and reasonable and "COMPLETE" test and with as many as he overbooked on the weekends seemed like more of a revolving door weekend money grab then a legit attempt to evaluate driving readiness. We also got lucky she failed because they had the paperwork wrong and had she passed and they sealed up for the DPS we would have wasted a trip. The other driving school corrected it. Bottom line: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Transitions Driving Academy

We will explain this in a manner that we hope you understand. The office was understaffed that day due to a death in the family. We did not disclose this information that day due to it being a personal matter. Staffing issues are not a reason for a driver to commit a traffic violation and expect to pass. This parent wanted to befriend the examiner and ask the examiner to joke with his daughter regarding a movie (which is actually against state policy). The examiner remained courteous and professional even though it appears tim didn't appreciate that he (the examiner) was doing his utmost best to attend to all clients and not violate state policies like joking with testers.

Sondie McGough 8 years ago

Negative experience: Do not get confused by thinking this is convenient. I paid 68.50 for my child to do her driving test on a weekend to avoid the DPS. BIG MISTAKE. After running an hour behind, the school presents us with a sealed envelope and informed us that we would be required to take the envelope to DPS. Although my child passed the driving test she was not licensed until we went and waited an hour at DPS. Furthermore, they failed to mention that a VOE was required by DPS so after waiting an hour we had to leave and go to the school to get the VOE and then come back to DPS. I am not paid to know the requirements of the law, that's what I thought I was paying them for. They were not informative, knowledgeable or forthcoming. Extremely unprofessional. Save your money, you have to go to DPS regardless.

Transitions Driving Academy

Since September 2014 the office staff has always placed 2 stickers on the front of an envelope. Unfortunately this was missed by this client.

Negative experience: Bad , I called to ask the guy how much it is , he asked for my age , I said 16 , and he's said they don't have classes for people my age only 18 and above , I said ok but I still want to know the price and it seems like he got mad for no apparent reason and started yelling they don't even do driving school , they don't do things like that , I would rate the class a zero and I didn't even take the class

Bailey Collvins 9 years ago

Negative experience: I went in to take my test and failed for stopping on a line at an intersection and fail for that. The two people in front of medaled for the same reason as well. That does not statistically happen. I was cheated and conned out of my money

Transitions Driving Academy

We have searched all records for this individual and the names does not appears in any file that the state requires the site to have. This could possibly be an attempt by someone at another facility to lower this facilities rating. You can also refer to a DPS handbook for all rules regarding the road skills test.

Fantastic experience: We called and got an appointment so fast for my son to take his skills test! Way better than waiting months for DMV! Great experience, great staff, very informative and gave the kids great tips before they began the test, highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: My nephew attended driving school here a few years ago and the instructor was excellent. He was by the book and expected them to follow the rules no fudging. Even my nephew liked working with him and learned a lot. It was much more than just teaching to the book and going through the motions. Highly recommend.
