Negative experience: My friends and I signed up for the 3 hour Go-Kart race and that is what this review will be about. There was rain in the forecast but nothing too severe. The website says they have the race rain or shine, so we assumed it would happen. One small issue we ran into right of way was that they only accpeted cash for the gloves you needed to race. We did not bring our own and the website says they have some on site to purchase. They made no mention of it being cash only. We did not have cash so i had to run out of the raceway to go find cash or gloves. Pro tip if this happens to you, there is a Dollar General right outside the raceway that has gloves for $5 each (it costs $20 at the raveway). We got through the first hour of the day getting our gear and going through the overview. Right before practice started the rain came. They let everyone go out for practice but about 5 minutes later they called everyone back in and stopped it. The rain wasn't too bad but everyone was spinning out all over the course. Additionally, our kart cut out numerous times during that time and our driver was unable to complete more than two laps. The staff there said that was probably because of the rain. After a few more minutes they told us they had to cancel the entire day due to the rain. Their policy does state they do not supply refunds but rather just give a rain check that is good for one year. One of our teammates was from out of state though and would not be coming back anytime in the next year. We inquired about getting a full refund due to this. One of the workers that we talked to spoke with the owner and we were told to call the office the next Monday. We were given the impression we would be able to get a refund. We called the office on Monday are were not given a refund. They said we were told to just call the office, but not that we would get a refund. This made no sense to us and was frustrating. Why would they tell us to call if the policy would not change? Seems like a waste of everyone's time. The staff on the day at Pocono were all great and were professional. No issues with any of them or the raceway. Unfortunately that did not make up for the frustrations we had. TLDR: They actually do not race in the rain and will not work with you on refunds. Make sure you and your team are able to come back within the following year in case it gets cancelled due to weather, which is very possible. Otherwise you are not getting your money back.
Hi Nicholas,
We're sorry to hear of your frustrations with our rain policy and we certainly understand the disappointment that mother nature can bring with our outdoor events. The statement you're referencing on our website regarding our Kart racing and weather is the following: "Our kart racing events will run rain or shine, providing there is adequate visibility and track officials deem conditions suitable and safe for racing. " and unfortunately Saturdays weather did indeed become too unsafe for the race to continue. There are situations where a light passing shower does not hinder our ability to complete the event as we've had happen many times in the past but unfortunately there are also situations like for this last Saturday where constant and heavy rain will result in us being unable to safely run the full event. Safety is always our number one priority and not something we can compromise on. Understandably at first we did not have a lot of rain, which is why we continued with the class and attempt of the practice/qualifying session, so I can see where your confusion comes from on why we postponed when we did but based on the incoming forecast and on what did ultimately occur, extremely torrential downpour, we were unable to safely run the full event with that amount of rain. I can assure you that making the decision to postpone is never made lightly, besides the safety aspect it's certainly not in any one's favor, quite the opposite, and we would very much rather have been able to run the whole event, but ultimately safety must always come first.
I do apologize for the cash only issue as that is not what should have happened as our staff should have contacted over to our Stock Car event team for them to have taken the credit card transaction. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention so that it doesn't happen in the future.
In regards to your concern of your friend not being able to make it back next year, that is no problem as we can provide an extension to your rain check for a future season like 2026. I have noted your account with this extension and if you have any further issues please feel free to reach out to us.
TLDR: There are situations where light passing rain showers do not hinder the Kart race from completing but there are also situations like this where constant and heavy rain will be too unsafe to complete the event and this is stated on the website. We can also provide extensions to rain checks upon request.
Fantastic experience: This is the second time I drove at Pocono. It's a great experience. One you'll never forget and you will want to keep coming back!
