Positive experience: The branch manager Sharese was super helpful and knowledgeable about the industry. She gives great direction. The yard instructors Shahara, Ali and “Hub” were instrumental in my completion of this program. However, these people are stretched thin with the big class sizes and makes every student anxious for instruction and corrections. You gotta be self motivated to deal with the lack of repetition practice with the trucks.

Fantastic experience: Knowledgeable instructors that were able to teach and train me to be able to pass my state exam on the first go. You’re only as good as the people you have behind the scenes. The instructors here at 160 helped to make me successful. Forever grateful!

Positive experience: My experience with 160 Driving Academy was great starting with the enrollment process for classroom training. S. Johnson & V. Reed was very knowledgeable and showed concern with me receiving, comprehending and retaining all information. Once on the yard I was a bit disappointed to see there was a lack of trainers/trucks available to students. Many days were spent independently studying which I personally did not mind but the time I spent actually behind the wheel practicing maneuvers were minimum due to the large amount of students to trainers/trucks. I must also mention the trainers that were present on the yard gave all they had everyday to assist with my success. Lastly I studied daily even in my sleep. lol and this was my gift to self. Thank you everyone that I have met through this process I greatly appreciate your time/patience.

Fantastic experience: At first I got discouraged of getting my cdl A I was concerned about learning pre-trip inspections after I got enrolled, I promise you with the friendly women who work in the office made me feel like it was the right thing to do… they have very caring personalities made me feel like I’m family so I trusted the process and completed my cdl 1-25-24.. the instructors at this Harvey yard made sure I learn the things I needed to learn … I’m glad that they were able to make this place a training environment not a stress hole.. I appreciate this team this school and this yard because I don’t believe I would have made it “one and done”

Negative experience: I am currently enrolled in this school and I'm dreading to go back! one of the instructors there made me very uncomfortable, having to engage in inappropriate conversations with him. Once I stopped entertaining him and the conversations he wanted to have with me, he begin to try and get me kicked out. I don't want to attend this school but still want to get my CDL license. I'm thinking hard of not going back there!

Fantastic experience: Best driving school ever! I definitely recommend to anyone that wants to obtain their CDL! Everyone is very nice and they help you if you need it. They work with you if you are having a hard time all you need is to ask! All the instructors are very encouraging and they want you to succeed! The instructors are friendly and very patient! Fast food restaurants are nearby if you don’t bring you lunch or a lunch truck comes around lunchtime. They also have cold bottled water on demand and also a vending machine. My experience here was very positive, and all the instructors, were very encouraging! It all depends on you and how bad you want your CDL! Thank you helping me achieve my CDL goal!

If I left you out, my apologies. I was ready to quit because in the beginning, I struggled very badly to remember the pretrip information. I went to Tim,Ali,Will,Jessica,and Steve. They all took me under their wings. Then, I became a pretrip specialist. So if I can do it you can too. When I struggled with the skills, I went to Tim,Ali,Will, and Calvin and Pat. They all worked with me. Then, I became a skills specialist. On test day, I was ONE & DONE. Thank you 160 Harvey yard!!!

The Branch Manager Stacie Is A Real Sweetheart and Was Always Very Helpful Along The Way. Calvin, Reggie, Will, And Ali All Helped Me In Different Ways. As A Student It’s Best To Learn From Everybody And Get Multiple Perspective’s When It Comes To The Trucks. I Was Able To One And Done My Exam But Couldnt Have Done It Without All The Help And Support From The 160 Family.

Fantastic experience: This is the school you have to hit the ground and start running. They will teach you and train you to past your CDL test but the education is up to you. When I attended the school I was a little skeptical about the school, they give you all the tools to succeed but you have to take in accountability, you have to get with other classmates and go over the material and study study and study, it’s a advance school and you have to put in the work. I found myself enjoying the experiences from the Instructors to the office workers and the yard managers were amazing in my journey in getting my CDL and I love them and will miss them dearly….Thank you 160

Fantastic experience: There is a hidden gem in Harvey Illinois called 160 drive it is a truck driving school, there are two parts to the school manual transmission and automatic transmission I was on the automatic side which worked out great for me. I graduated in the (One and Done) group through great training from some of the best trainers who are there to help you and give you all the information that you need to get your CDL license. As far as the rest of the people that work there they were always ready to give information or inspiration some gave me both. Now due to my determination dedication and everything I was taught at 160 drive I'm already working and a few weeks from getting my own truck from the company I applied for so thank you 160 drive and Team Automatic for everything Terrance Samuel

Fantastic experience: My experience with 160 Drive Academy on the Harvey/ South holland yard was everything I could hope for as a new driver not knowing anything about tractors trailers. You leave with all the tools you need to become a proficient driver. I’m a automatic driver so it wasn’t as stressful as some manual drives described but my instructors put all that they had in me and I’m 100% confident in myself on tackling this trucking industry! I’m so thankful for 160 and God bless everyone who was apart of my journey!

Fantastic experience: 160 is a great program. 40 hours in the classroom 120 hours in the yard. Finished in 4 weeks a one and done. It’s hard but not hard. It’s easy but not easy. Don’t give up. Be patient. Take your time. Don’t over think it. You got it. Life changing experience if I can do it you can to. You put garbage in, you get garbage out. All instructors were great teachers and very helpful. Do not use the manual packet for your pre-trip. Watch trucker Dave pre-trip on YouTube and take notes it’s very helpful. Always talk to the other classmates and ask for help. Each one teach one.

Negative experience: This school is concerned about Quantity and not quality.. the test trucks are in bad shape. They have too many students and not enough instructors. There are more students failing than passing. DO NOT attend this school if you're serious about trucking, making a better life for yourself...

Fantastic experience: I originally got a CDL license in 2012 with Star Truck Driving School in Hickory Hills. I had allowed my CDL to expire because I had stopped working as a CDL driver. As a result, I had to redo the hours of training from the beginning like I had never done it before. Since then, 160 Driving Academy bought out Star. But the basics of driving has not changed. You still have to know how to Pretrip, do an InCab and drive a vehicle safely on the road. The DOT regulations that regulate every little thing a truck driver has to do, and is not allowed to do, is extensive. But I have to say that 160 breaks it down into manageable items. You wont learn EVERYTHING there is to know about truck driving, but you will learn enough to be safe on the roads. The class DEPENDS on the amount of effort the student puts in. The class DEPENDS on the student knowing what they need to be successful (hands on vs hearing it or seeing it) and to communicate that to the instructors. Most importantly, the learning does not start and stop in the yard. The most successful people are those who take the lessons and make it a part of their routine/habit. Truck driving is 90% mental and only 10% skill. Stay focused and stay safe out there. And keep the treads down. See ya around the next bend. Thank you 160!

Negative experience: This school is all about money. You'll pay 5K and they will burn up your time just so you can pay more money, an additional 1200$ I regret wasting my time, money and energy going to 160. I strongly recommend anyone to pick a different school. They treat you like you're in prison. No cell phone, 3 day suspension. One your in the yard you can't leave because the close the gate and lock you in. But I must say if your a female with a nice figure you'll get extra training and guarantee to get your CDL.

Negative experience: I don't understand why the trucks here are so worn-out. You would think they could afford better trucks to train you in considering the high demand of truck drivers and the amount of money that is coming into 160 Driving Academy. Seems like they only care about the money and less about the students. It's defiantly not the instructors but of course cooperate. Something is not right of course. I am appreciative of my heads up about these terrible trucks here in Holland. Wish I could give no stars

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience here. Strict rules does not mean no fun! I had fun, but when it was crunch time all the instructors made sure I was ready in Harvey and south holland. Antonio made sure I had plenty road time. EL made sure I had no excuses and was on point in all my lanes. Brandon and Rachel made me a pre-trip god lol but 160 is amazing just take the experience seriously. This is the best Truck driving School in the world. Peace And Love 160

Negative experience: SEE IF YOU CAN GET PAID TO TRAIN FIRST! This school is money hungry, only cares about getting as many students as possible and not considering how it affects the quality of the learning experience. They don't listen to any critique and take it personally. I paid 5k out of pocket and this is considerably more expensive than other schools that are better organized and actually have better accommodations for students when outside on the truck yard for inclimate weather. They contunially go up on prices without showing any efforts that justify the price. Nor do they take responsibility for their clear flaws or mistakes. They are not really interested in making the experience better for students. Very unorganized instruction on the yard, unprofessional, and hypocritical. If you give vaild criticism you can expect childish retaliation in return. I got a refund and that same day applied to a company over the phone, that pays you while training for your cdl. Already about to be signed on and this took a matter of 20-30mins tops. I really wish I went that route in the first place lol. Before paying out of pocket for for any driving school I suggest seeing if you can get into a good company that will pay YOU for your training first. If not, there are definitely better schools than 160 academy. This was at least my personal experience with the South Holland location.

Negative experience: just because they give you your license with 160 hours of driving doesn't mean you know how to drive I think most are driver instructors need to go back to driver's Ed themselves and learn how to drive a truck in the first place

Fantastic experience: 160 Driving Academy is a great place to learn to drive and get your CDL! Right off the bat they can help you find a carrier to work for that will sponsor you in school. Donna does a great job getting everything set up for you. Dave is a great instructor! When you get to the yard in South Holland you'll typically start off with Tim whose laid back funny attitude will help you get through. He's a great teacher so listen to him. When you finish your pre-trip and go to the other side of the yard, you'll have a couple great guys to learn from. There's 2 Wayne's that are cool guys and you'll learn a lot from them. If you get a chance to get on the road with Antonio, I definitely recommend it. He's a great road instructor. Just take it easy on his knees and shins with your braking lol. I can't thank these people enough and I also want to shout out to Greg and Kevin who run the yard, especially Greg for believing in me that I was ready even when I thought I wasn't. When you graduate, it doesn't end there. These guys and 160 are there for you if you need anything. No sooner did I leave the yard and I already had texts and calls of congratulations and asking if I needed any help with a job because I was self-pay. Show up, pay attention, graduate, and get on the road! Good luck to current and future students!
