Fantastic experience: I went to school here baby in yr 2000...in fact my boyfriend then went first then I followed abt 6mths later...I learned alot here. I personally had a time with 45 degree backing and coupling.. but I wanted my CDL so bad, I went in on additional days, went early or stayed late with the instructor, he believed in me...well because of that. .I'm out here with 5yrs OTR SOLO driver, no accidents, by GOD'S grave and some of the extra pointers the instructors enforced. .Thank you CTDTS !!! cam I come by and visit while on hometime 1 day? I'm 1 of your VERY PROUD STILL TRUCKING STUDENTS****

Fantastic experience: Just wanted to say thank you to all of my trainers, in office and in the field at 160 Driving Academy. I had an amazing crew, and a great time learning. I would definitely recommend this school in Charlotte, NC to anyone. Thank you Tony, Lamar, Tim, Nikki, and Corey, the DMV examiner from Greensboro, for all of your dedication in helping me in my career.

Fantastic experience: Pretrip, maneuvers , and learning how to shift gears, manual driver, good energy, instructors such as Lamar and Charles are great teachers and guided me in the right direction upon completion, highly recommend if you want to get your CDL

Fantastic experience: Was a challenge in the beginning, the instructors were very helpful and gave me the positive energy and confidence I needed to achieve my CDL, would very much recommend 160 driving academy, had trouble trying to learn manual stick shift, but instructors such as Lamar fields gave me the right tips and techniques needed to achieve, a instructor with great patience and knowledge to pass down to me and others when undergoing the learning curve of trucking, thank you again

Fantastic experience: I chose 160 because they had an opening that fit my time schedule. The teacher, she gave the classroom a pleasant atmosphere with her smile and just willingness to share her work experiences and helped us learn the material, when we asked for help. She went the extra mile. Moved onto the yard, had a amazing instructor! His ability to teach how to control and maneuver the tractor with 53’ trailer, on the yard and in the maneuvers, was superb. Then had a driving instructor that taught me how to control the tractor and trailer in turns, lane merges and just overall take control of the vehicle. He not only made it easy but made it fun. The overall atmosphere given by the staff, made my everyday learning experience one of the funniest times in my life. And at the end, I have my class A license and can now take a great experience memories with me. And I would recommend 160 driving academy.

Negative experience: I’ve been very interested in getting my CDL for a while and I’ve heard good things about this school. I went in two weeks ago to talk about enrolling with the school and the recruiting guy wasn’t there. I spoke with a lady named Donna and she gave me some good information and told me to try again tomorrow. I proceeded to come in again the following day and he was STILL not there. No one working could tell me where he was or when he was going to be there as they said he was supposed to be there Monday thru Friday 8-4:30. This time I left my contact information for him. A few days went by and I still hadn’t heard from him. I thought maybe I’ll give it another try. I went in and to no surprise he WASNT THERE AGAIN! This is absolutely ridiculous. How do you expect to sign students up for your school if there’s never anyone there to do it. Makes sense why I didn’t see many students there every time I came in. Sounds like this guy needs a different job or no job at all. Despite not wanting to go to another school as I was excited about this one and it’s close to me, I decided to go to Transtech. Do better. Be better. Or you’re going to lose potential students.

Fantastic experience: I recently attended 160 Driving Academy Charlotte and I must say, I couldn't be happier with my experience. From the moment I called to inquire to when I walked through the doors, I was greeted by supportive administration who was dedicated to helping me succeed (Shout out Phil, Niki, Donna). The school itself provided a great learning environment for me. The instructors went above and beyond to ensure that everyone understood the material and felt confident behind the wheel. You got to go in with a purpose. You with a purpose combined with their patience and expertise made my learning process enjoyable and rewarding. They make sure everything is covered from the basics to the maneuvers. Test time I felt well-prepared for the challenge of the pre-trip, maneuvers and the road. Shout out to the Yard instructors Sims and Charles. Thank You brother (Dump Truck) My dog's Khalil and Lamar your training and insight was nothing but top-notch. Your training styles are building success. Eric all I can say is Thank You. Overall, I highly recommend this trucking school to anyone looking to start a career in the industry. The instructors and the school as a whole exceeded my expectations, and I feel fully prepared to take on the road ahead. I'm grateful for the knowledge and skills I gained during my time there, and I'm excited to begin this new chapter in my life. Your's Truly first graduate of 2024

Fantastic experience: 160 Driving has been a great experience for myself. We can go ahead and acknowledge there were a few hiccups that happened that caused a couple of setbacks. But did not tarnish the actual experience itself. I went through their weekend program and the instructors that were present were/are great. Kaleel, Vernon, Nikki, Charles, Eric, & Richard are all great at what they do at Teaching/Instructing. Very helpful with any question asked, gives full detailed instruction on what to do and the pros/cons of operating a CMV, energetic to see students succeed, and overall again great teachers. They really push you to take the time to learn in class and out of class to be successful. Although some students decide to play around, be on their phones, and not take it serious are the ones that struggle and can have negative opinions. The tools are given to the students and at the end of the day it is up to us as students to take the tools and build from it. The instructors are there to help guide & teach us the skills & information to operate a CMV and again Kaleel, Nikki, Vernon, Eric, Richard, & Charles are doing a fantastic job.

Negative experience: I am currently attending the Charlotte NC, hovis rd brand and I am very unhappy with the service of this company I’ve been enrolled in this program going full time for a couple of months, yet I was informed upon admission that the program would last a month 1/2. I believe I’m being targeted for discrimination and it is bringing hardship towards me. I also contacted customer care and never got a reply. I’m on record pleading with you for a resolution to this issue.

Fantastic experience: VERY Understaffed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But Great People, Iv seen great Improvements in the leadership by have the yard as clean as possible Lamar and Earl know what they are talking about. All the staff wants to help and WILL HELP. The Biggest Problem is isn’t not 160 it’s the Students coming in. They don’t want to learn, as I’m going through pre-trip people are sitting down and talking and not learning. That to me means they don’t want it. They don’t want to learn. If you go and ask for help from ANY instructor weather it’s Lamar,Earl,Charles,Sims,Tony they will help you but you have to take the responsibility to ask for help if you don’t they will not baby you because we are adult learning something thats very big and Dangerous on the road, But the Safest Way possible. The Instructors are telling us not to be LATE and I don’t see why that’s a problem to some people, they can’t just Grow Up and be adults and take responsibility to get up early and get to class/work on time. I’m happy and glad I came here and appreciate all the instructions I have gotten over the weeks. But In the END ITS ON ME TO WANT TOO LEARN HOW TO ASK FOR HELP AND NOT TALK TO PEOPLE AND PAY ATTENTION.

Negative experience: Understaffed and very unprofessional. Staff will readily argue/curse at each other and students alike, regardless of if other students are around or not. Management falls asleep during class with zero hesitation. Any complaints are met with “oh well I don’t care I’m the boss.” Or trying to blame it on the student/deflect it entirely. Abysmal communication. Delayed drive time. Honestly, the problems are nearly endless here.

Negative experience: I am a current student at 160 at Charlotte nc and I really wish I would have chose I didn’t school, I would like a refund or to transfer to a different location I was informed before I self paid for my schooling that the program would last for around a month; it 3 month and some days later and I’m still trying to get in the truck to get enough drive time to complete course it’s always a issue I come on time the instructors don’t show and if I’m a minute late I can’t participate for the day. Last week I was told to come at 5:30 and the instructor didn’t show that whole day nor the next. I left my job to come to this school full time and I need to complete the course I keep reaching out to customer care and never get a reply I talk to the people in charge only to be informed that the school is over booking due to the greed of taking on more than the trainer can handle this is very stressful and discouraging I need something due about my issues I’m reaching out first. Please contact me at your earliest convenience….

Positive experience: Really great school to attend. I was able to achieve my CDL license on the first try with the help of the instructors Earl, Lamar, Tamaya, Shakira, Kaleel and Eric. In addition, i was able to receive helpful information about the CDL career through Ms. Nikki and Ms. Donna who's at the front office. Really positive people to work with all around, i would recommend this place to anyone who wants to obtain a CDL. They have experienced instructors who will work with you to get your license.

Negative experience: Don’t go here!!! Go elsewhere If you can basically you pay a lot of money just to learn everything on your own. They’re always short on instructors and stay talking about people and telling students business to other students which never should happen under no circumstance! They worry more about discussing people business than teaching you how to drive the truck pathetic ! Please RUN and believe the reviews.

Fantastic experience: 160 in Charlotte is a good school to go to if you have the self discipline and motivation to learn. Trainers are always available for help when needed and will give one on one training when available and if needed when they can. I built lifetime friendships with other students and instructors. My instructors Eric, Tony and Phillip are THE best there and always look out.

Negative experience: Please attend somewhere else. My husband is CURRENTLY in this school. WE had to take a loan for $7,200 for this school only for him to not be taken seriously. He outside from 8am-4:30pm and only was able to get in the truck ONCE. He went inside to talk to the instructors or whoever run the office very calmly. He got loud with my husband and basically told him to F off. Told my husband if he was to leave they will not refund him. He’s trying his best to learn everything on his own. He basically did his CDL permit using an app. He’s very determined. It’s very said bc he’s trying to better himself for his family and this school is taking him as a joke. It’s only so much he can do watching videos. This is terrible if I must say so myself. And FYI my husband is the one who keeps his opinions to himself so for him to be upset the way he is, I know it’s the school. Customer service is very poor.

Fantastic experience: I just completed 160 Driving Academy and I really enjoyed the experience I had excellent instructors. The class room with Ms. Nikki was excellent just wish she could have taught us more in the class mainly that Pre trip inspection and Incab inspection but the main person to see about this is Lamar at the school. The Instructors Wow I could write a book about these Men.... Lamar all around terrific instructor, he training me how to drive and had so much patience with me the best driving instructor I ever had. Now Eric and Phil this team right here they are the Best on the yard here at 160 school, they help me out alot on the yard. I learned so much from these two men and I really appreciate all you taught me. I came to 160 driving school to learn how the be a Truck Driver and these Instructors really helped me. Tony you have one of the best team of Instructors in Charlotte.. Thank you all Yulondia Stallworth

Negative experience: Was going to join the school until I over heard a conversation with the employee's talking about how they fight the students and let the studentsfight each other. Big red flag. I'm trying to better my life. This is serious for me and I'm putting my money up out of my pocket. And I'm glad I heard this before I paid them. Because I got into a better school with a cheaper asking price.

Fantastic experience: 160 Driving Academy may have had a few issues, however for the last month or so since the Regional Administrative Assistant Travis has been there he has made a major change. From staff changes to making sure that 160 is running right. I just graduated and got everything I needed they just needed some guidance and management because it is now nothing like it was. Eric, Phil, Walt, Lamar, Gray and Tony please keep going in this direction as it was the change that 160 needed.

Negative experience: The Charlotte location is absolutely horrible there are way to many students and not enough instructors...the instructors don't get paid and will sit around and not instruct to the point where instructors went on strike and the trucks constantly broke down tires were bad and complaints are not valued they had no water during the summer time they used clay on their yard the staff is disrespectful….it’s advertised as a 4 week class but it takes everyone at least 12 weeks I left the school went to TransTech and had my cdls in 3 weeks with no problem and they will refuse to provide a refund

Negative experience: This place will steel your money! It cost us 4,095.00 plus an extra 1,200.00 and they promised 4 week classes its been 6 months and my husband still doesn’t have his license…it took this school over 4 months to put him behind the wheel to drive. We used everything we had out of saving so he would better himself and his growing family. This school took our money! This school is always short staff. The examiner is not fair to all students he uses different guild lines and rules for everyone. They Do not follow their own rules or contracts. I have contacted the dmv and a lawyer about this place. Hopefully, this problem will be resolved soon!!!

No such thing as a dumb question. The staff and instructors were extremely helpful. Lamar & Walt got me right as far as pre trip inspections and backing. I graduated in February & currently doing my training for Western Express. Even in the real world I can hear them yelling “iight now get up under it!” in my head .

Negative experience: Don't let them take your money because what they do is bring a whole lot of students in while being under staff with instructors so you want get enough drive time practice so be careful with how you spend your money with them but they have good instructors they are still under staff and good at taking people's money so be mindful.

Negative experience: Dont even know where to start here. Took 8 weeks for a 4 week program. Many people take longer. You do not go out on the road in a truck until at least 4 weeks (5 weeks for my class). You do not practice with any loaded trailers, you dont do blindside backing, you get no practice coupling to trailers, and you are not taken on any major incline or decline. Pretty much everyone coming out of the school is a major road hazard. They blame all delays on the DMV when in reality it is because they spend too much time arguing about the proper way to teach things when only 3 instructors have it right. Every student has their permit by week 3 so why are they there for 2-3 months? Their biggest issue is they care more about the money flowing in than the students flowing out. They will bring up to 10 students a week in and only 5 students will go out which causes massive lines for trucks. On multiple occasions you will stand outside for 8 hours (they took the chairs away) and only drive once IF you are lucky. The pretrip has about 100 items on it and you only have 30 minutes a day to study it. If i did not have a background in the industry and a chance to practice at home I would no doubt be there still. Forget getting a refund. They do not care about time lost, they do not care if you have rent, mortgage, a family or a car. For them to claim to be the best school in the country is disgusting and a disgrace to the industry. Save your money and go to the FTA in Asheboro. Absolute circus.

Fantastic experience: I went to this school coming straight out of prison. I took what I was able to learn and graduated the class. I’m now working and making 50k a year starting out. Every company/ school or whatever you can possibly leave a review for will have its ups and downs. If you go to this school and mind your business you will learn what you need to and move on to the next best thing. Roscoe the manager will work with you the best he can. Some great instructors that I liked were Micah, Rick, Ray, and Sabrina. You got exclude the personal stuff going on there and just remember what you are there for.

Negative experience: I was in this school for about 12 weeks and I was a full time student. Mondays through Thursdays. Unfortunately I tried to test on two different occasions after my hours. Am told I didn't pass the PTI on 2 different occasions. If I had known I would have gone somewhere else to train. The present and only examiner cum instructor here is very sadistic and wants to fail you at the slightest opportunity. Am an immigrant and I went to college and had degrees.i have done over 100 written college exams..telling me I didn't pass PTI for a second time is the worst experience I have ever since my years in the US. Personally I will want to say their teaching and training methods is obsolete and ill equipped and they make the whole truck training and driving unnecessarily difficult. I regret wasting my time attending the school for complete twelve weeks when they claim it only four weeks.

Attended truck driving school for 12 weeks and still couldn’t pass the pre trip inspection. I believe no other response from us is needed.

Fantastic experience: This is a great school to attend. I use to refer students here all the time and the money was funded from the government. Many success stories from many students who were sent to this school through the WIOA program.

Fantastic experience: No matter where you go there is going to be flaws. There are great instructors that will teach you great. You will have up and downs.

Positive experience: I thought it was a good school. I was fortunate enough to have Micah as a field instructor and Gary as a driver instructor. Both of them were outstanding with regards to their professionalism and job knowledge. Equipment is a bit dated so that's why it isn't 5 stars. Its Monday - Thursday 730am to 6pm so makes for some long days. The course takes about 6 weeks to finish as well.

Negative experience: THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER IN MY LIFE!!!! THE SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS FUSS AND CUSS AT THE STUDENTS LIKE CHILDREN, THEY DO NOT TAKE THE TIME TO SHOW THE STUDENTS HOW TO PROPERLY MOVE THE TRUCKS.

Fantastic experience: Great experience. I appreciate all the instructors for being patient with me. Gino, Gary, Richard, lonnie, Muhammad, micah, leslie, Don, Donna. The journey took longer then I expected but most of that was on me because of the time it took for me to absorb all the training. It was well worth it..

Negative experience: do not go to this place you're going to waste only time for almost two months waiting for an appointment and the day of my appointment I did everything right and the man who examined me said that I did not pass the pre-trip inspection test, now I have to wait almost two months again for another test, if you do not want to waste your time it is preferable that you go to another place where they take you seriously.

Our CDL testing appointments stay pretty booked up, as well as the DMV and all the other CDL testing facilities. All our CDL examiners go by the book. If you weren’t prepared for your CDL test, and failed, how is that our fault?

Fantastic experience: Hey I’m attending this school now as I speak. If you want to get good training this is the school for you. Great instructors, and willing to help you to become the trucker of america....

Fantastic experience: Great school!... Everyone there were professional... If you run into any problem Gino and the rest of the staff are approachable and will take every problem seriously and professionally... The trainers who are on the yard and on the road are very knowledgeable... I made an excellent decision by going to this particular school... They constantly have companies that are looking for drivers come to the school.. so if you can't find employment after you graduate you can't blame the institute.. would recommend anyone to attend this school.

Fantastic experience: Let me get this off my chest, My experience with this trucking school (CDL) was amazing.. These instructor that run this trucking school on the weekends are amazing they answer all your questions that you ask them. Let me start from the top.. Miss Donna that sits in the middle desk is a terrific lady she goes way and Beyond to help you out. Let's start with Mr Leslie, I couldn't ask for a better instructor to teach me what , I need to know to learn how to drive a 18 wheeler amazing dude. He was there at the beginning till the end when I graduated .. he loves to teach everybody that's willing to learn .The next person I want to talk about Mr. Lonnie. I couldn't ask for a better instructor tohelp me out from the beginning to the end keeps it real with you .When you mess up , but he will help you fix the problem, so you don't make the mistake again. Let's get to Richard , he went out of his way to help students.I was very impressed. If you need to get your CDL A this is the school to go to.. very professional from the beginning to the end when Miss Dona gives you your diploma from graduating from the school. Charlotte truck driver training school you guys ROCK...⛟⛟⛟

Fantastic experience: Best school in town. Talked to all the schools in Charlotte before coming here. Instructors are great. Do plan to be there for at least 5 weeks. Remember that trucks break down, you might get sick, or the weather is unpredictable like snow in March, and some holidays come up. Don't go in with an ego and you'll be just fine. Leslie, Lonnie, Ralph, Don, and Richard great guys with experience ask them anything and everything.

Fantastic experience: Here at CTDTS we train over 300 drivers per year, and have been in business since 1971. While we strive to make everyone happy, sometimes it seems it is quite impossible. But hey, out of the thousands and thousands of happy customers that have come through our school, and only a handful of bad reviews, I think we are doing pretty darn good!

Positive experience: The school is good. But, beware of Lonnie. The guy is a total prick. He don't care about nobody else other than himself, he even admitted that to me. I confronted him about his attitude and took it to Gino. Gino said he would talk with him, the guy needs more than a talking to. He suppose to help the students, not talk to them like they're garbage. All the other instructors are okay, but Lonnie, I think you might want to think twice before doing a road trip with this guy. Be better to ask Gino for someone else to be your driving instructor plus examiner. I'm not the only person Lonnie has mouthed off to, I've heard there were others. Anyway, best of luck to whoever goes here, great place. Just keep your distance from Lonnie, he'll be nice at first, then a total prick the next, I'm being honest, totally not safe with this guy.

Fantastic experience: Reply to jack leg! Instructions were read during test, pre trip was passed and you failed your backing. Per the contract you are given 6 attempts with a valid permit, license and medical card, however your 2nd permit expired Saturday the 30th and you tested on Thursday the 28th. Remember a permit will last for 6 months.
