Negative experience: Took forever to get drives needed. When I did get the drives the instructor Kelly was 20 minutes late. And I was left in the half dark building alone. No one else was in the building. Once she arrived she said said we can add on the twenty minutes to make up for her being late I agreed to do so. She gave me to my twenty minutes back but somehow managed to still bring me back to the office 10 minutes after our session should’ve ended. She made me feel dumb and seemed like she had no patience for me. You could tell she would get bothered when I couldn’t get things down the first or second try or when I didn’t understand something her body language would tell me she was bothered because she would let out big sighs, roll her eyes, or say passive aggressive things. The other instructor I got was cool but didn’t really teach me anything. I got him for my first and last drive and on the last drive he finally asked me if there was anything I wanted to work on. I told him yes, parallel parking. We went through the whole drive just mindlessly driving around and he never showed me what I actually wanted to learn. Honestly didn’t learn anything with the drives only with the online portion. Felt like a waste of money. The car I was in smelled bad to.
Aliana, thank you for notifying A-1 about your experience. The A-1 vehicles are equipped with cameras that provide video, audio and time mapping. A-1 will look into the situation. We want every student to have a good experience and to feel like they have acquired the ability to perform all driving maneuvers and the confidence to be a good defensive driver. I see you completed your drives 6 weeks ago, I wish you would have brought this to our attention sooner. A-1 is very committed to providing excellent service.
Positive experience: Don't over sale your available slots at the expense of kids. You can't honor your commitments. If a student doesn't get a spot in week A they default to first priority in week B. Something needs to change. Update: I've changed from 2 stars to 4stars. I've had multiple calls, initiated by A1. They went above what I anticipated to get the drives completed. There still needs to be an improvement in the weekly drive scheduling.
A-1 is very careful to adjust enrollment based of teacher availability. A-1 has registration caps in place. If your student is only available on a certain day or at a certain time it will make it more difficult to sign up for drives. It looks like your student is registered at our Provo office. Looking at the schedule, there are still a couple opening for next week available. The office can also add you to a call list and will call you when drives come available during the week. A-1's current completion time is about 4-6 from the time the student shows their permit. However, it can be longer based on the students availability. I know working together we will be able to help your student in timely manner. Please call our office if you would like to be added to the cancellation call list.
Negative experience: This is an absolute dumpster fire of a business. My son has been a student for more than six months and can’t complete his hours because they have no availability for lessons or testing. They’ve told us to check the schedule at a specific day and time every week when they are supposed to open up. Literally this entire summer, I’ve watched him sign in before that time every week, then keep refreshing the screen until the magical time the lessons are supposed to open up. In the last 3-4 months, he’s managed to snag one time slot. Completely unacceptable. We could have saved the hundreds of dollars we spent and just waited until he turns 18, which he will before he can get another lesson at this point. What a scam. If you don’t have enough instructors, then stop enrolling students. Don’t take people’s money if you can’t provide the service they paid for.
Erin, I'm sorry for the experience you are having with A-1 and scheduling driving times. To better help you I need to know your students name. If you would like to call our office and leave a message for Mariann to call you back I am happy to talk with you and to look closer at your son's account. Through June and July students have been completing in 3-6 weeks. August is always very busy because there are only a couple short weeks until school starts. We do have an office waitlist/call list that we can put you on. We will call you when openings come up. A-1 hasn't had a waitlist to get into driving until just this month of August. I am certain we can help you. Hope to hear from you.
Negative experience: I thought maybe I just had a bad experience but I’ve heard from several people that also went to A-1 and cried because of the instructors so I def would not recommend.
Mary, I am sorry to hear this. I only see one Mary Williams in our system and it looks like you completed back in June. I would like to talk with you more about your experience. A-1 has a camera in the vehicle and if we are notified within a week or two of your drive the system will allow us to review the situation. A-1 cares about your experience and students should have a positive experience. I look forward to speaking with you.
Positive experience: Best experience I've ever had with a driving instructor. I had been trying to get my license for several years and had so much driving anxiety and these people were so good at diffusing my anxiety and helping my confidence. I now have my license and I enjoy driving!
