Southwest Truck Driver Training

Negative experience: My experience with Southwest Truck Driver Training was extremely disappointing. I expected a basic level of professionalism and quality, but what I received was far below standard. This is the worse company you would ever want to deal with. The staff was unresponsive, the service was disorganized, and my concerns were outright dismissed when I tried to address them. The service was significantly delayed, and there was little communication about the wait time. I had paid in full for a class B training, but was not told that there were no candidates to fulfill the class. Therefore, I was stuck in limbo for a couple of weeks. Then I was advised that I had to wait for another candidate to begin the class. But it would take time to find another candidate. I did not have the time to just wait until someone else signed up. I have a job and other duties to attend to. If they would have communicated this to me before I signed up, I would have never paid for this class and would have looked elsewhere. I have been emailing the staff, Debra Dahan and Bryan Spencer about a refund and have not gotten anywhere. They told me the finance department will get back to me, but again, with a company so incompetent, they never reached out. They are now straight up ignoring my emails. I’m out $3,500 (I paid this class with cash) with no say on when I will be getting my money back. It’s unacceptable to treat customers this way, and I feel it’s important for others to be aware of the level of disregard I experienced. Based on this encounter, I cannot recommend this business. You will have better luck searching for a different driving school. No customer should have to deal with such poor service. Oscar Ruiz.

Fantastic experience: I am currently enrolled at the Las Vegas campus and I am 3 days away from graduating. I have to say I love this program and the staff. If you are considering truck driving as a career I highly recommend this school, the staff and instructors truly care about your success. I am so grateful for all that they have taught me and the support they have given to ensure our success!! Thank Joey, Alicia, Matt, Bo, and Tony and the rest of the staff!!

Fantastic experience: My fiance James and I both attended Southwest a couple of years ago. We both obtained our CDL'S in different classes. My fiance and I recently went to a job fair that the school was hosting. He inquired about them having manual trucks, because during the time we went to school the trucks were out of service. He spoke with Sylvia about it because it was paid for with the expectations of receiving his manual endorsement. After nearly a year later the opportunity was presented and Sylvia went above and beyond to ensure that he received his manual endorsement. She worked with his schedule and kept him updated with the things he needed to do to take the class. So I would like to personally thank Sylvia, Bo, and David for their time and effort to help him get that restriction lifted.

Fantastic experience: Passed on 12/26/24 and by far one of the best experiences of my life. Glad I chose SWTD for my training. All staff were professional, patient, funny and just outstanding. I'll miss those guys❤️.

Fantastic experience: Southwest was a very great school all the staff works great with you and make you fill like family thank you everybody for the opportunity Matthew Melinda Silvia David Deb Sharr and whoever I didn’t mention you all was very great and helpful and didn’t allow none of the students to fail themselves like myself even when a task was hard I recommend this school to anybody that’s trying to obtain their Class A cdl license thanks again southwest family love you guys

Positive experience: My experience was TERRIBLE ! Just kidding ! My Teachers/Instructors were all cool in their own way. In class we had Boe and Alicia. Boe was a very cool and down to earth guy . Alicia was more straight forward, direct, and reserved at the same time lol. Reserved like she held back her real coolness lol. But all and all they were Cool. One thing I very much disliked , was the taking turns reading out loud . I hate reading out loud. My classmates felt the same . But we got through it . Our field instructor was Dewayne. He was a mellow, cool, likeable ,and no nonsense type of guy. He will definitely teach your butt some skills . And for my classmates reading the last part . No Diddy lol . My classmates were also a great group of guy. While attending this school we had two awesome BarBQs . I will miss every moment I had with the team and my classmates. Would i recommend this school ? She explained everything throughly and made sure if we had any questions she would answer them to the point we knew the answer like the back of our hands. she has the most patience i’ve ever seen an instructor have, which made class go A LOT smoother. overall such a great experience and i would 10/10 recommend going here if you’re thinking about getting your CDL. Fantastic experience: Miss Melindi was the best instructor I could’ve asked for! She was super patient and put us in situations that was directly correlated to our testing day. She made training fun and the process less stressful. Couple of us might have dropped the transmission several times while learning how to shift but she didn’t trip All the other staff members were helpful and made the whole process easygoing. Highly recommend going to this school if you’re thinking about getting your CDL.

Fantastic experience: An amazing experience! I wanted to drive monster trucks when I was a little girl. I took a totally different path, but when life threw a curveball, I decided to make my dream a reality. I looked into other schools but when I met everyone here, I knew this was the right choice. A special shoutout to Sharr who endlessly worked with a smile to make sure I could get funding. And to my trainers Joey and Al. I cannot say enough nice things about these guys. Thank you both for helping me. You were patient and made sure each of us in class were set up for success. I never just felt like a number passing through. I always knew you wanted us to succeed. If you are looking to get your CDL, this is the place to go. Thank you Southwest!

Fantastic experience: Great service since I was registering for class, Very motivated and professional, experienced employees, I want too thank Melindi, Sylvia, Alicia, Dawayne and Matthew for there support and helping me accomplish this achievement.

Negative experience: I had to leave the school after 2 weeks in class, I did not even get a chance to go to the range. I asked for a refund, not the entire amount because I know I attended 2 weeks of the school. The reason for leaving was my wife got very sick and needed to help her. I called and spoke to the director and kept telling me we are working on it, then a week later called again and stated that he is not sure because they do it do a refund if you attend 50% of the class which I did not the class was 5 weeks and I attended 2 weeks, I have been calling every week since then and no answer and not calling me back. Stay away from here, they are here to take your money and nothing else

Fantastic experience: Omg when I tell you this school is the best school I am not lien I finally passed it took me a couple of tries but one thing I can tell you all the trainers and teachers make sure you get it and that’s exactly what they did each and everyone of them I appreciate you for helping me with my new career and not giving up on me this is one of the best schools in Las Vegas so if you looking to get your cdl this is the school for you ❤️

Fantastic experience: This school does not baby you , if you are looking to get your CDL A/B I recommend this school 100% my favorite thing about SWTDT is that you get to test with them for the dmv behind the wheel. Also the instructors are very knowledgeable any questions related to school or their own experience out in the real world of trucking they will try to help you understand. Trucks are 3 years old or newer so you get good equipment. They also have good recourses if you need help financing or getting grants. I got only have regular class A automatic definitely going to go back to get certified for manual & take the hazmat class as well.

Fantastic experience: Joey best in class room he only works days tho he will have u prepaired for the test he even gives u a jump on outside great teacher Alfred great outside instructor do ur best to get him he switches from days to nights he is the best outside teacher he will teach how to drive that truck and if u follow the points he shows u while driving that truck it's on point he will be on your head making sure ur on point if you don't like someone holding you accountable don't pick Alfred or Joey but if you want it there your picks but the rest of the staff office Deb Toney and I'm missing her name but she the one who if u need to miss time or know anything abt payments she got you they are great as well I want speak on the rest but those I named and the one who I described are all stand up tell u what it is folks not what u hope to here I respect that and them thank you southwest and ur staff

Fantastic experience: It was an amazing experience. The entire company helped me out from Administration to My instructors even my classmates. I’m thankful and it’s a blessing from God that I was able to make it through. I had a very difficult time but nevertheless I was aided and I overcame. Appreciate you guys over at southwest. This experience was a blessed one.

Negative experience: I wanted to get my CDL with them but when I requested information a person called me who was not at all polite when I informed her that it was possible to speak with someone who spoke Spanish. She said no, there was no one who spoke Spanish and that if I wanted to take the training I had to speak English because the training is only for people who speak English. It's a shame but I'm not going to waste my money on racist and discriminatory people.

Fantastic experience: What an awesome experience! They have a team of people who really care and treat you like family. I want to thank Ryanne, especially . She made me feel like I've known her forever. I want to thank Deb for always rooting for me. Thanks to Sylvia I got my finances together. There is a very special Thanks to my instructor, Al. He has the patience and the knowledge to make sure his students pass. I can't thank him enough. We were all lucky to have him as our instructor. Thanks again to Southwest Truckdriver Training. Fantastic experience: Great school, great teachers, got my CDL after the 4 weeks. They teach you exactly what you need to pass the DMV test. Pay attention and it's easy. A month after I started my new CDL job. Definitely recommend this school.

Fantastic experience: The staff at this school actual cares about students and their safety. Very thorough theory training, great range instructors, patient staff and reasonable pricing. They will even follow up with you after you are done with your CDL to help you get a job if you’re having difficulties finding one. Joe was a great classroom teacher, Matt was amazing range instructor, all the ladies at the check-in desk were polite, smiling and helpful. I started school with zero knowledge about trucks and left with everything I need to know about driving these 18 wheeler beasts. I had my doubts coming here because of the industrial surrounding, but I’m happy I chose this CDL school.

Negative experience: Daisy Rodriguez insulted me after I said I wasn't showing up for my orientation, said she figured, and that maybe when I get my life together I'll have my CDL I screened shot her texts and will be reporting this to southwest. She also made a threat about notifying dmv for some reason have no clue? Think she just new she was in the wrong and lashed out at me for her mistakes.

Fantastic experience: From the beginning of my process, everyone was friendly and professional. My enrollment was very easy with the help of Darcee. Once in the program, there was two weeks of classroom training. After that, we were in the truck learning for the next three weeks. Matthew and Rodney were my instructors. They both did a phenomenal job. Robbie, the director ( I call him principal), had a true open door policy. I recommend this school to anyone who is serious about obtaining their CDL. Everyone there will help with the process.

Negative experience: *READ HERE BEFORE JOINING SWTDT SCHOOL! * This is the worst school I have ever been to in my life. They reschedule testing multiple times until everyone including their staff is confused. They promise to call you back in a month and when you finally call back, the person that’s been helping you is no longer working there, and this process repeats. This happened to me literally 3 times. As I’m waiting for a call back, I’m getting email notices that I have to start paying even though I haven’t tested. I’ve been in contact with Angela in the Arizona location and she finally told me she is extremely sorry there is nothing she can do. I’ve asked for my money back and they informed they cannot do that. And still today, I have not been called to be scheduled. I don’t care what this school says in their response to my review in this public forum, because behind the curtain, they truly don’t care. Don’t Go To This School.

Fantastic experience: I just want to say I don't know what the others reviews is about but I recommend this Truck driving school to anybody everyone is respectful and patient and takes their time with you just make sure you ask questions and actually paying attention shoutout to Dwayne,Joey,Tony,David they helped out big time thx everyone for giving me the tools to succeed and getting my cdl.

Negative experience: I got my CDL in this school in 2021. I personally don't recommend this school. Look for a crazy guy called Joey he is rude unprofessional and disrespectful. Nothing against their trainers, but they were always short on trucks you don't get enough practice time at the yard or on the road.

Negative experience: I advice you guys to don't go to this school coz the first time they tell you that you have 4weeks to do pretrip,but when you start they put you in class for 2weeks studying permit test that you already had it in DMV plus you don't have alot of times to learn since they are many students in one truck,the other problem if you ask the office about manager or any responsible in the company to talk with they hiding.and they like you quicky to leave as soon as possible.since other school they offer more opportunities than them ,(more hours and more trunning)plus it's cost cheap.

Fantastic experience: I got my CDL at thise school. I took night classes joe was the classroom instructor. He helped us get ready and pass the written exam at the DMV. Matt was our Driving instructor. He was friendly and very funny. He made made instructions clear. And if we ever had questions he answered them. He is passionate about teaching and as long as you apply yourself Matt will go above and beyond to make sure you are ready to PASS the CDL Driving exam and pre-trip test. Also the other instructor Al Was always very friendly I didn't have him as a instructor but anytime we would cross paths he would say hello and ask if I had any questions or needed any help.

Fantastic experience: I signed up with SouthWest as it was the only school offering night classes. Daisy gave us a tour of the school and gave us a rundown of what to expect during the five weeks of classes. The first two weeks of class felt like an eternity as it entailed lectures in preparation to the DMV written tests. There are three written tests needed to take to obtain the learners permit for Class-A. They are easier to understand with the use of outside study materials such as the online practice tests. The following three weeks of class flew. The class was separated into groups of four. We had one instructor to four students. Initially, I was very nervous as I had never stepped foot inside a semi truck nor imagined to be wanting a career driving one. Matt was our instructor, he is incredibly knowledgeable and patient. He noticed I was nervous and adapted his teaching to help me feel more comfortable driving and operating the semi. Matt used various techniques including jokes to help us understand and memorize the material. Matt made this class a lot of fun. He prepared us and pushed us to do our best in the the pre-trip inspection, the skills, and the driving. Overall, I am very pleased with the staff and instructors at SouthWest. I had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with other instructors such as AL and Alicia. They are very professional, friendly and knowledgeable in this field.

Negative experience: Esta escuela no sirve ya que subestiman el aprendizaje de los alumnos y muy mal el trato de la secretaria mexicana .les recomiendo busquen otra escuela no pierdan su tiempo en esa basura

Negative experience: We paid 5k cash for this school. My husband got Covid 2x during the duration of the classes, this started in February we were told multiple times they would get him back in to his last week of school, it’s been several months we have made multiple attempts to talk to the office and always was given excuses “we were short staff” Robbie will get back to you…. The instructor will get your file and call…. I can go on and on….. 5 thousand dollars is not easy to come by especially raising 3 kids, all we want is to complete the last week of the class, I’m hoping the owner sees this because we can’t get through to anyone! To pay for a service and not given the chance to complete it is criminal…. Please respond to this post we need help!!

Negative experience: I even wrote down my address and you guys completely did what you wanted too. I didn't want to attend this class due to you guys rescheduling so you sent my money to the wrong address that I even wrote a statement on Than 100 just for not even starting the class. I don't know what's wrong with you guys but I don't do business like that and yall all bad business. Will let everyone know how yall are.

Negative experience: The worst driving school in Vegas they offer to get you a CDL with no restriction, and do not do so I am out of this place with automatic only!! Unreliable unprofessional management!!! DON NOT RECOMMEND

Negative experience: I was fortunate enough to pass my tests and obtain my CDL Class A using this school... But i would NOT recomend anyone to go here under any circumstances. The night time instructors/teachers are great. Very friendly and patient with their students.. They gave me great tips and advice to get you ready for my pre-trip/road test. The office staff/administration/front counter workers on the other hand is a different story. They seem like they hate their jobs/life and take out their frustration on the students. Very unorganized and ZERO communication between eachother or with the students. I never recieved the full 160 hours i was supposed to get, my test date was scheduled in the middle of the final week of schooling... they were pretty much setting me up for failure.. But thankfully the instructors were great and i was able to pass with what they were able to teach me in such limited time. I did have to retake my road test, and was able to be scheduled for a re-test WEEKS later.... Eventually i was given a call a DAY before my re-test with no time to schedule a practice run with the instructors.. AGAIN, setting me up for failure... I would without a doubt NOT recomend ANYONE to go to this school. If it wasnt for their instructors, this school would be out of business... I was warned by several friends of mine about NOT going to this school, but did not take their advice just because the school was so close to my house... My assumption is they WANT you to fail so they can be paid the re-test fee after your second attempt. My experiences were based off me going here in December/January 2021/2022. It could be even WORSE now with the new rules and regulations set on Febuary 7th.

Negative experience: Insufficient otr and on the range training. Slow response time with questioning and follow-up. Training materials were not provided by this company.

Negative experience: If you want to get your cdl, this may not be the school for you. Class instructor, great. Skills, could be better. You do not get very much hands on training especially for backing. If you do not pass the pre-trip the 1st time, you will probably be waiting a VERY long time to retest....over a month with the hopes that you pass the 2nd time or who knows when you'll ever be able to test again. Calls never get returned. You may get a text thanking you for your understanding and patience but still never get a test date. They will claim that they are short staffed on trainers/testers but they will keep having additional classes although they don't have enough trainers and are backlogged on testing. If you decide this is the school for you, I wish you the best of luck but I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Negative experience: Horrible experience, very unorganized, unprofessional, and disappointing for the amount of money paid. People who paid for the Manuel training where forced to use automatic due to broken down trucks. The trainers are impatient and disrespectful treating you as if you've been driving for years. And if you happen to not pass your test on the first try it takes forever to get a re-test. They don't care about getting STUDENTS there license. Just concerned with getting new CUSTOMERS.

Negative experience: I want to start by saying how disappointed I am at the level of professionalism this organization has shown me as a fully paid participant of this school for CDL training. The classroom training consists of videos and a few photocopies. The required $5000 enrollment fee for automatic transmission tractors is well above industry standards. As students we were not given any material to study. We were advised to pick up a DMV booklet and download a free app to study test questions for the DMV learners permit test portion. (Did not need training for that.) The instructor is a retired career driver with no concept of teaching or how to teach. Students felt the first two weeks were a waste of time. No real method of teaching the pre-trip inspection. "Just do as I say" method. There's no evaluation of the instructor at the end of the course to ensure we are learning the necessary processes to prepare us for testing. JUST A TOTAL WASTE. Then on top of that, we still have not been given a DMV test date due to over worked instructors. Still waiting a month later for a test date. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE SCHOOL!! DON"T WASTE MONEY or YOUR TIME ... they just want to get paid.

Fantastic experience: Went to the Tucson location for my Class B. It was a smooth experience from the moment I called for information. I was paired with Brady as an instructor and he’s the absolute best! He was SO patient with me (I wasn’t that comfortable driving a manual), professional, kind, understanding, funny, listened to all my questions and explained them in a way so I could understand, if I told him I didn’t understand something he would switch his training method until I got it, if I asked him to repeat something he would repeat it without issue, if I wanted to practice something several times in a row and bore the heck outta him, he was down to do whatever I felt I needed to work on. He totally put me at ease and that’s a big deal when learning something new. I had Judy for my test and she was amazing as well. Great group of knowledgeable professionals at this location. Highly recommend for CDL training!!!

Fantastic experience: My review goes for this awesome girl named Brenna Gray! She was so encouraging and so very helpful her vibe was impecable. Very positive and am so thankful that she was there to help me with all my questions! And everyone looks very friendly too! Five yellow stars!

Negative experience: I’d give 0 stars if I could. This team takes days or weeks to get back to you, inconsistent times with an instructor (paid for 40 hours, DID NOT get 40 hours). Alayna explains that they are backed up or busy, seems to be the excuse for months and months. Unprofessional and frustrating “service” overall. Awful.

Negative experience: Ive been trying to get ahold of them for two weeks. I keep getting told to call another day. Save your time and money and go somewhere else they dont even know when they’re open.

Negative experience: The school is a joke. They don't teach you anything. They take your money and act like they care, but the don't. The administration that runs the school is a complete JOKEEEEEEEE! The instructors aren't bad, but they aren't great either. If you decide to go to this school be prepared to learn on your own. Fantastic experience: Skills and over the road training with Alicia has been an uplifting experience for me. I love how knowledgeable and patient she was during the times she assisted me. Her attention to detail and how she conveyed the steps needed for each skill were very helpful. I appreciate Michael “Pops” for making me feel like family and giving me that push when needed. Ivan showed me hard work and professionalism. I have much respect for him. The administrative staffing has been attentive, friendly and professional. I am grateful for my experience at Southwest Trucking. I’m giving this company five stars because as long as you don’t give up they won’t give up. Good luck to all future drivers!

Negative experience: Expect to be lied to by Joey an staff. Their Manual trucks are regularly broke down. They over sell their capacity. Mike was a great experience. The teachers who helped me best, left stating the school doesn't care about the students. I had trouble shifting both trucks. This school blamed my skills even though both manual trucks received clutches right after my troubling experience. I even saw the teacher coast a long distance, breaking the State laws and he thought I didn't see he was coasting. I wouldn't recommend this school.

Fantastic experience: Tony in my opinion is one of the greatest instructors there. He looked out and made sure I knew all the fundamentals after not being at school for 5 months because of unorganized staff and the games they played during the process of me getting my license . I appreciate the time he took out to make sure I knew what I was doing when test day came around

Fantastic experience: I got my CDL in 2 weeks with this course. My instructors Tony and Dwayne were amazing !! They taught me everything I needed to know to make sure I passed my test ! Now I’m able to make a good living, and go where ever I need to !

He is very knowledgeable, experienced, and patient in teaching us. He made the material very easy to understand. Thank you Howard. The 2nd 2 weeks of school I was instructed by Tesfay T. He was always happy and enthusiastic. You can tell he loves what he does and more importantly he really cares if his students succeed. These 2 men have made a pleasurable experience. Thank you both.

Fantastic experience: I'm a student as of right now in the good ol papa smurfs class learning my general knowledge for the permit and this man is easy going on explaining and making the class as simple but fun to be a part of. Looking forward to getting my permit this week to get ready for the driving portion! Would recommend these classes!

Positive experience: I just started with them this week. So I had to do this because the administrator people seem to keep mixing stuff up with me . I gave them a check last week and forgot to sign so had to come back up there . Last night was told I needed to take a drug test or could not come back . Came back down and learned they do not do it on sight . Went down to the company they have do it Concentra . Been here over an hour , and about to have to reschedule my online interview for a company . My mind might change about them later own but the are really screwting up simple stuff and casunijg me misconfort . This could had been easily done last week . All the administrators had to say was you need to take one : he said it the first day but never gave me the paper work or called me . Over an hour down here and still waiting. Update : The things you need to do : Study Chapter 11, some instructors want you to do things they’re way . There is some space to solve problems , so you might get different ways to do things . Michael “Papa Smurf “ is a good teacher as well as Ivain and others . I ended up passing first time . Good school that can have improvements on the administration side.

He is very knowledgeable and knows how to keep your attention when the day is long plus it must be hard to teach adults. I wish I could give him more stars he deserves them
