Golden Key Driving School

Negative experience: Went in person payed in cash the highest plan, tried to remain organized with the dates but they kept switching it on top of that kept asking how many lessons I have left as if they had do no clue themselves. The instructor told me directly this is more of a business then a school so I suggest you do your research before walking in with a hand full of cash. Another thing the instructor told me looks can help me pass or fail the road test so that’s how my investment went. One thing I noticed with this “business” is that everything is told to you, shown sometimes, and the moment you have something for example the word “irresponsible” it triggers people apparently.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience, yisrael is one of the best instructors ever, I highly recommend this is as your driving school, friendly, respectful and most importantly a great teacher.

Negative experience: The worst!!

Negative experience: I waited a long time to do this review, 2 years ago to be exact. In 2022 I decided to pay for the movie to do my lessons, I paid, I do the movie, later I go and I also schedule 10 classes. I choose 10 classes because I am a brand new student meaning I do not know how to drive. The person that gave me this 10 classes is Israel or Yisrael. This person when he came in which I believe is the owner, He said start the car and fix it , no good morning no nothing. I said, hey how are you, I need to start from 0 i do not know how ro drive. This man only showed me the controls that day and thats it. The rest of the lessons he spend the day only talking and recording for his youtube. Comes the day of my test, they had issues with New Rochelle DMV into the point that the lady said she was not giving the test. She did, but she failed me, which it was expected. Later I said well maybe I was not ready let me choose catherine since many people have mentioned her in the comments. I paid 3 lessons with her, which she also was either talking on the phone, or sitting all the way back in the sit not paying attention to anything. I went back and took the test AGAIN in New Roachelle and AGAIN the DMV people saying they did not wanted to take people from this school. Idk what was the issue with them but apparently was big enough. In the end I paid 13 lessons with these people and I did not passed. All of these good reviews are because they tell people after their classes to leave a good review, and if they passed ALSO to give a good review. LAST year in 2023 I decided to do everything again and pay 10 lessons in another school, in the bronx, service was different, the guy focused on what I failed, showed me everything from 0 and I actually passed my test in another test site.

Negative experience: Took a Highway lesson at Golden Key Driving School. The worst experience since instructor did not guide or correct any of my errors. I pretty much gave the instructor a ride through the highway. Yisreal came in late and when we returned back from the highway , he came out of the vehicle without any acknowledgment because he was already late for the next client. Very unprofessional and not recommended.

Fantastic experience: I usually don't write reviews, but I had to in this case because they helped a lot. The owner and the instructor Yisrael, and instructor Catherine, both did an amazing job teaching me how to drive. This was from how to properly make turns, how to properly park, adjust your mirrors, and how to 3-point-turn. "Follow the 3 R's" will be said enough time that it was almost impossible not to recollect the saying during the exam. I did practice occasionally with family too, but it's not the same when you have instructors doing this every week for the last 16 years. They tell you exactly how to drive in the road and what the DMV is looking for. IT IS ALL ABOUT SAFETY. I took the exam once before about 9 years ago and failed. I took the exam this time around with Golden Key Driving School and passed, just in time for my new training. Couldn't have been more thankful and I highly recommend!!!

Negative experience: They aren't trust worthy the worst road tester examiners!. Rumors that professional drivers were being failed and I'm a witness they waste too much money unprofessional bad quality partners. Procrastinating during sensitive times and false accusation, they did not provide resolution. I can't trust them.

Fantastic experience: I HAVE MAJOR DRIVING ANXIETY but I PASSED!!! Thank you so much Israel!!! Not only will you be receiving driving lesson but you will receive the best therapy session, business advisor, fitness instructor and some of the best conversation you can possible imagine! Had a great time with both instructors felt as I was driving with a friend while they gave me advise how to perfect my driving. The team is extremely knowledges , supportive and helpful. The girls reassure you every session YOU WILL PASS!!

Negative experience: A horrible driving school. I had a great, young instructor about 5 years ago when I was living in Inwood. He was patient and taught me how to parallel park. The owner was my main instructor and was awful. He would have me drive up to Marble Hill in 4 lanes of traffic and double park while he ran in and got a coffee and a roll. I don't pay to run errands for people and I shouldn't have been driving while learning like that, I wasn't ready for it but it was convenient for him. The woman who took myself and another student to take our driving test was awful as well and all she did was talk about what would happen if we got a certain tester with us for the test. She made us nervous and was highly unprofessional, blathering on about herself and not helping us prepare. Stay away from this place.

They made sure to cover all steps along the way to me taking my test, including driving me to the actual test site. Shoutout to all the instructors who gave me lessons (Julio, Yisrael, Catherine) who were all professional and gave me great advice. Also shoutout to the person who works the office (sorry I forgot your name!), she was always incredibly helpful with any questions I had.

Fantastic experience: I’m not a person that write reviews at all is just not my thing but the owner and the instructor Isarel did a great job that I had to one he actually cares about you passing is not just about the money for him and the way he teaches you is so easy that you would get it before him I had no experience and with one lesson and practicing with my brother I passed my drivers exam at the first try. Israel you are an amazing person and instructor I definitely recommend golden key driving school !!!

Fantastic experience: So my review is more than a bit late-its about 8 years late to be honest. But i was going through some local businesses on google and saw this place pop up and instantly knew i had to give some feedback. Yisrael is the man, full stop. My very first lesson he had me practicing steering wheel rotations, and once i was doing it at ease, he guided me into my first real driving experience. We drove through the neighborhood and i was a little nervous because people were driving pretty aggressively, but he was super chill the whole time. Fast forward a bit of time, and i ended up moving to Texas for 7 years, where i had to quickly adjust to driving every single day. A lot of the basic fundamentals i was taught quickly served me well, and still do to this day. I'm forever grateful for the time and money spent to take driving lessons, and if you're in doubt i hope this helped you settle on Golden Key.

Fantastic experience: Excellent experience! I drove with 3 instructors: Yisrael, Catherine and Julio and passed my driving test with flying colors on the first try! Highly recommend. Great training to drive around the uptown hood, prepares you for the city driving. Nice, new cars that are a pleasure to dive. Good communication if need to reschedule. Fantastic experience: It has been a very positive experience with this driving school. All three instructors that I met were really understanding and patient with me. I am a very anxious person and all three helped me by always talking in a positive way. Negative experience: I payed for my 5 hour pre licensing course I was sent a zoom call on Wednesday at 6 no one picked up the zoom call everytime I call no answer or the girl talking to somebody on the other end I am about to come up there today because this is ridiculous

Between the very informational YouTube videos that Isreal posted ((that i watched a lot)) and Catherine T. As a driving instructor I would give this school and Catherine a 10 out of 10! Instead of 5 stars, Catherine was an amazing teacher!!! She was super clear on instructions, very calm, very patient! Honest, She recommended 1 more class closer to day before the road test. ((Which helped me so much)) And i got super lucky getting a last minute class the day before my test. She listened to what I felt that i needed help with, also helped me build confidence on the road, very reassuring. Kind AND showed me some really great tricks on how to park easily!! Negative experience: Not recommended….limited schedule with one good instructor….took multiple classes with and still failed my DMV test. Instructors are more on the phone than helping you.

Negative experience: Golden key driving school is the most unprofessional business I have ever encountered. The owner is very disrespectful to not only me but many other costumers that were also there to receive a driving lesson. After being disrespected by the owner over asking her for a simple request, she denies my right to receive a refund on a driving lesson my daughter never even got to be a part of. I highly recommend anyone looking for a driving school to look somewhere else, this is one of the worst experiences I had when giving my business to a company.

Positive experience: I want to preface by sharing the following: I had zero experience driving before arriving to Golden Key, no knowledge how to adjust the side view mirrors, and how to turn a car on, but I was determined to pass my road test. I purchased the 10 lesson package because I wanted to give myself ample time and practice. Firstly, reserving lessons is tricky. After I got my permit, the only available days were two months ahead. I wasn't in a rush, so I didn't have a problem with this, but it's not convenient for some. Yisreal is patient and explains exactly what to expect during the road test. He will be very encouraging and express only positivity. When asking for his opinion on whether he believes you're ready for the road test, he asks you to feel it out yourself. At some point after the 5th lesson I felt my progress and was feeling more and more ready. I do feel there are some organizational challenges from the secretary's end but it's not extensive or negatively impacted my experience at all. I really did have GREAT, POSITIVE experiences at Golden Key. I am so excited that I was readily prepared for the road test and passed on my first try.

Positive experience: Yisrael is good at what he does. Instructions are very clear, corrections are made in the moment, and he makes sure your basics are solid. As of April 2021, communication with the office has been great and I have not had any problems with appointment cancelations. I passed my test on the first try after 5 lessons with some previous driving experience. Overall, great value, great teaching, and very calm vibe. I've had a good experience with this driving school.

Negative experience: This service the worst service I’ve ever worked with super unorganized, taught how to drive the wrong way causing many possible accidents, mix and mess up your road test dates, and set you up to a bad instructor on purpose. This school really sucks and I wouldn’t recommend this service.

Fantastic experience: I was procrastinating getting my license for years. I was too nervous. I was riding around my cousin who was a new driver and I loved how she drived. It was smooth, pristine and she had complete control of the car and awareness of the road and other drivers. She referred me to Yisrael with Golden Key Driving School. She had amazing things to say about his exemplary technique. And that she acquired her license on her first try. I took her advice and signed up for courses with Yisrael. The school was very responsive and accommodating of my schedule. Yisrael is an amazing teacher. I was so tense and nervous when I first stepped into the car, but soon I was cruising through the city with ease. He explains everything thoroughly and he really tries to understand the areas where you need work, and will aid you to perfect those areas. It was such an easy, fun and enriching experience. I feel confident behind the wheel now. And best of all, I EARNED MY LICENSE ON THE FIRST TRY!!! I was so excited, words cannot even explain the elated mood I was in. Fantastic experience: I originally took the road test about two years ago after having taken classes with Uptown Driving School, located just a few blocks uptown of Golden Key Driving School. I paid money for a package full of classes consisting of the instructor sitting with his face facing down to his phone. He often said "it's fine, you'll pass the test," even though I knew I wasn't confident in my driving skills. I failed the test. Fast forward to 2020, I sign up for classes with Golden Key Driving School. First thing is first, it was extremely easy to buy a package through their website and schedule classes over the phone. The people who helped me over the phone were friendly and always ready to provide assistance. I bought a five class package that always went as follows: Careful guidance from Yisrael, constructive criticism, and repetitive practice that enabled me to be a better driver. As someone who was completely afraid to turn left/right, I am highly confident in turning at any corner in a manner that is conscious of my own vehicle and those around me. Yisrael not only guided me with instruction, but also ensured to create an environment that was welcoming and calm. Driving with Yisrael was like driving with a friend. Today I took my exam and passed with only a 10 point deduction. I felt incredibly confident and in performing everything that Yisrael taught me, I drove efficiently. Fantastic experience: I've taken 2 driving classes at Akademia Driving School and 1 driving class with Yisrael at Golden Key (mainly because of my own poor planning) I can honestly say I wish I had done all my classes with Yisrael. At Akademia I had different instructor for each class and they each taught me differently, which really made it confusing for me. Yisrael was professional and patient. He gave me clear and consistent instructions step by step and had me practice until I got it right . Hannah drove me to my road test and she was helpful and encouraging. I think I would have failed the road test if I didn't take the lesson with Yisrael, and I would have scored higher if I had taken all 3 classes with him.

Fantastic experience: I went to other schools, I failed the broad test three times. Went to Golden Key, passed NY first try with them in 5 lessons. Can't think of a better school Yisrael breaks it down in terms that you can understand, and has great energy, and is the very best in NY State, and dare I say the whole US.

Fantastic experience: When i did my test all i can remember was everything Yisrael had taught me. He's honestly an amazing teacher and this school prepares you better than any other out there. I hadn't even driven a car in about a month before taking my exam, but all i needed to do was watch their video on youtube and i felt more prepared than ever. These guys are amazing.

I bought package #4 which was 5 class (45mins), 5 hour class, and for him to take you to the road test. I took the road test and I passed (YAY!). The location was Havermeyer in the Bronx. The Golden key driving school instructor helped me feel confident and knowledgeable on what I needed to do to pass the road test. I live in the city and I don't need a car but I wanted the skill for long distance trips. Any who, Yisrael was great! He was patience and informative. He made sure to teach me what would be expected of me on the day of my road test. Yisrael presence was calming; he didn't yell if I did something wrong. Simply would point it out and let me drive until I got it right. Fast forward, I was nervous the day of my test, however I appreciate the mini refresher Rosanna gave us while we waited for our turn. I passed my road test the first time. The packages are reasonable compared to other schools I researched. I highly recommend Golden Key. Thank you!

Positive experience: I purchased 10 classes with the 5-hr pre-licensing course and option to use the school’s vehicle on the day of my exam. I took 9 out of 10 classes and passed my road test on my first try. Yisrael was a great instructor. He knows how to correct your mistakes without micromanaging you or crushing your confidence. He was patient, professional, and also very interesting to chat with while practicing driving! (Great for learning to concentrate on the road while also having a conversation in the car, which is bound to happen sooner or later.) I really appreciated the memorization strategies and visual cues for parking, K-turns, and left turns that Yisrael provides. I also had the pleasure of taking one class with their female instructor (I forget her name) and thought she was great too because she covered topics that Yisrael didn’t, like how to parallel park behind a truck or motorcycle, as well as other strategies to remember what to do in certain situations. On the day of the exam, Rosie was the one to drive me along with 2 other students, and gave us a brief tour of the neighborhood near the testing area, reminding us to pay attention to the information on the road, pointing out stop signs, reviewing the difference between the two types of stop signs, and reminding us how to approach those tricky 4-way intersections during left turns. Rosie basically summarized in 5 minutes everything Yisrael teaches you on a class-to-class basis. In terms of the quality of instruction and preparing me to pass my test I think Golden Key deserves 5/5 stars... The only reason I chose to give this school 4 out of 5 stars is because I think their business administration needs improvement. I sometimes had difficulty with scheduling and rescheduling classes and the exam (e.g., weekend availability was limited even when calling 6 days in advance to schedule a class; sometimes I would call to schedule and leave a message and not get a call back, so I had to call again later; other times when I wanted to schedule a double class Rosie would tell me to call back later to see if that was possible instead of calling me back with a confirmation). Also they have a strict cancellation policy so if you cancel a class with less than 24 hrs notice, be prepared to lose your money. Apart from the minor inconvenience of scheduling and rescheduling appointments, they do pick up/drop off from nearby locations (e.g., nearby train station) which was convenient and saved me some commute time. Overall I had a great experience with Golden Key Driving and highly recommend it!

Fantastic experience: Golden Key Driving School helped my teenage son get his license in the unbelievably hot August of 2017 (2018?) (hard to remember now) and they were terrific! We are based in Manhattan and my son had previously practiced with a school in Manhattan which tests in Yonkers and didn’t pass. I looked outside Manhattan for a better driving experience and found the FANTASTIC owner and teacher Israel at Golden Key in the Inwood section of the Bronx. I am so glad I did. I am convinced that not only do they use a testing site with a better pass percentage, their driving instructors, esp Israel (!) are professional and also personally passionate about helping their students. Their cars were surprisingly CLEAN and NEW and I was impressed. This is a mom and pop shop and is indeed run out of the back office of an Inwood hair salon... booking can require patience... office assistants are not always the best... but the cars are great and right out front so have patience. Israel and his lovely wife Rifka also recommend that they take the student to the test (for an additional fee) and I concur. I truly believe you might get a better test experience when you go with people the testers know.

Fantastic experience: I am writing this literally one hour after passing my test, Yisrael is a FANTASTIC teacher, very clear and straight forward in his methods which makes it so much easier to learn. He could teach a 3 year old how to drive and they'd pass lol. I would strongly recommend to anyone learning to drive to go to this school. 10/10

Fantastic experience: AMAZING DRIVING SCHOOL! Ive never driven in my life and with 5 driving lessons that were informative and fun, i received my license! They prep you for the test along with all the practice throughout the lessons. Anyone taking driving lessons need to come to GOLDEN KEY! Thank you guys! Youre amazing!

Fantastic experience: Best experience hands down!!! Passed my test first try!! You can’t go through golden key and on the day Exam somehow say you weren’t taught that. Everything you will learn WILL be on the exam. All the lessons were great and very informative. I recommend everyone to come to golden key and get your license off ONE try!!! Watch how they present themselves, just watch the owner of this location Yisrael Hannah lie in court, discriminate against an African man, tried to defend his "companies" schedule and claim his son (an employee of his) couldnt stay for this man's road test because he had more important things to do...wow! Really? That's what you got paid to do! Do not trust these 4 star reviews, they are to close in description to be real customers. Watch The Peoples Court episode from 6/20/18 and find out who you are about to waste your money on. -owners response comments: 1. This court room "show" is not the kind of show you are referring to, you should have done your research before signing and accepting your appearance/humiliation on national television. 2. If the "show" is the kind of show you are referring to, why the comments from the woman who sue appear in your website long before the show was tapped? Duh! 3. I have a license, and a life and I can guarantee you (just by looking at what you choose to wear to appear on national TV) that is much better than yours. 4. To anyone out there looking for a driving school in NYC please, pay attention at this man's manners and way of speaking on this comment, this is exactly the way he spoke on TPC, consider yourself warned. Not all New Yorkers are this way, so keep looking for another driving place until they learn some customer service. Apparently they have no clue what that means. Unacceptable in a business that deals directly with people.

Fantastic experience: I went to golden key driving school for an 8 package lesson, Israel was an amazing driving instructor, he play all day but was a good instructor over all. My road test appointment was April 25,2018 and I failed my road test, not because of Israel’s teaching it was because I was super nervous. I went to another school and took 2 more lessons because I knew I needed just a little more work on my turns. And I passed my road test with flying colors when I took it the second time! And the difference is that I wasn’t a bit nervous this time!!!! At the other school in Long Island none of the instructors had any faith me absolutely none at all and said I wasn’t ready to take my road test and how I was going to fail again and for me to take more lessons, I said the devil is a liar. So I went to my road test and used every single technique that I learned from golden key driving school and applied it to my road test my second time around and guess what with Israel’s teachings I passed, although I went to another school for 2 lessons I still passed with his technique. Don’t be fooled when you do go to other schools they will try and mess up with you have already learned and have you all messed up, but if you already know that you were taught by a damm good driver instructor like Israel don’t forget what you learned no matter what other school you go to!! Be blessed on today!

Fantastic experience: I have been to two others schools previously, and when it was time to take the test... i failed almost on the spot. Israel has one of the best qualities an instructor should have... PATIENCE. If you follow his techniques, you will definitely pass. Hence i was never taught those before (ex. Mirror to yellow line, the 3' rs). He also builds you with confidence and as much as you may mess up, he doesn't treat you like a fool. I recommend this driving school to anyone who seriously wants to pass and not just give their money away to driving schools that expect you to fail so then you have to come back to them and pay another package. Israel has a heart of gold!!! I give this 5 plus stars if i could.

Negative experience: Worst experience ever this business when they mess up they cover up greatly they stole our money and didn’t provide a car for the test because they were mad that we scheduled for a test that was earlier than what they were offering they offer the farthest test date possible and the only schedule things that are better for them not for the customer. the owner is very rude and disrespectful and very culturally insensitive. They are truly overpriced to be a room in the back of another business with the outdated choppy old video. $150 for a video that they look like they made themselves in the 50s. they got my $80 the car I scheduled for the test but I will never go back to them again and I would never recommend them either. The receptionist was very pleasant and very nice but when she messes up she lies to cover herself and I have proof and documentation stating she made a mistake and they covered for each other and made sure that I did not get my money back. Trust me never go back to this place take your money elsewhere to a place that actually has a office not a room in the back of somebody’s business they spent more on the banner then they did on the room. Busted dirty overpriced closet the put folding chairs in a closet and charge $150… smh I the got me I hope they don’t get you too …. Trashy place

Fantastic experience: Golden key driving school is great!! i would recommend it to anyone. Everyone there is so nice they actually want you to succeed, it's not just for a check. I passed my test on my first try and i only took two classes. Teachers are great very understandable and very patient with the student. Felt like family from the day i signed up. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!

Negative experience: Very unprofessional, unorganized and they lie about the drivers test dates. The instructors were ok but the girls that work in the office don't know what they are doing! I would never recommend
