Fantastic experience: We just finished the month long course for my 16 year old daughter and we can't say enough great things about it! Coach Eddie is THE best instructor I could have asked for my daughter and I just signed up my son to take his course next year. Coach Eddie is honest, direct and takes the course very serious. My daughter was just saying how he misses his stories, teachings and advice. Truly the best driving school in ABQ and I would most defiantly recommend. Easy to register, centrally located and instructors that actually care. I just hope Coach Eddie doesn't retire in 8 years when my youngest begins to drive so she can also learn from the best!

Fantastic experience: This school has been absolutely outstanding. I'm incredibly thankful for how well they connect with the younger generation and their compassionate approach. They give the kids plenty of driving practice and put in real effort to earn the trust and respect of parents. I’ll keep recommending them again and again. My only regret is not knowing about them sooner, as I sent my first son to a different school, which was a terrible experience.

Fantastic experience: We've had our two daughters and son in Coach Al's. Here are my observations: - They truly care about your kids being responsible drivers. - Just watch their operations for a night and you'll realize this is a very well run operation. - Coach Eddie is a typical New Mexican. Might slip a cuss word, but speaks his mind and ensures your kids know what's right and wrong on the road. - Communication is fantastic. - I can't imagine a better driving school in ABQ.

Negative experience: I was recently a student here and here's my experience. 1. Let's start with the good thing, the person who teaches the textbook part is pretty nice. Her name is Cindy. Also the people who do drive time with you are also very nice. Shout out to Bobby and Zachary, they helped me a lot with driving. 2. Coach Eddie, the main guy isn't so great. He seems sexist, and as a girl, he made me fairly uncomfortable. He calls every girl "babe", "girlfriend", or just "girl". Like we have names. I guess he does this with the boys in a way too calling them "son" or "bud", but it doesn't have the same implications as “babe” or “girlfriend". As an adult in a room full of teens this seems inappropriate, and as the main instructor, this seems very inappropriate. 3. Low key didn't learn a lot. I think the best thing in this class is the drive time with the instructor. Yes I understand that we have to go over a bunch of stuff that the state requires but the manner of teaching is ridiculously boring. Also, Coach Eddie goes on several long monologues about things unrelated to the class. 4. Now this one really gets me mad. They 100 percent let kids cheat on tests. Both on the permit test and the final exam one. Coach Eddie's way of justifying this is by telling you which ones are wrong by letting the student list out the answers(a b c or d) and either giving a look or outright telling them which is right. I'm sorry to be that snitch, but it's a permit test to let kids drive on the road, not some unnecessary exam. On top of that they score the final exam incorrectly so if you fail they'll turn that fail into an 80 for you so they can leave early. For example the girl sitting next to me got a 72, which they considered a fail but the teacher told me my math was wrong and said it was actually an 86. There were 50 questions and she got 16 wrong but got 2 extra credit questions, if you pull out your calculator you may notice that she scored 72. No shade to her, but like she should've taken it again. If you've read this far, thank you for reading and consider sending your kid somewhere else. And to Coach Eddie who will probably reply, be better.

Negative experience: I'm a homeschooled teenager who took this class. I found coach Eddie to be very judgemental toward anything I did wrong and it caused me to be very anxious and depressed. Two of my friends who went to the same driving school agree. I genuinely believe I would have learned better and much less stressfully if I had just practiced with my parents.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing experience with Coach Al’s Driving School. Coach Eddie was my instructor and I cannot thank him enough for his clear, concise advice as well as his direction and obvious passion for the work. I’m learning to drive a little bit later than my peers so driving is always a little nerve wracking, but he was able to give me tips on how to understand the road and the laws that guide us on it. Amazing customer service and an instructor that is competent and cares is what one will receive at Coach Al’s. Thanks Coach!

Negative experience: Dealing with this company has been the worst customer experience I've had in my eight years as an international student in this country. I believed in the good reviews and went ahead with the behind-the-wheel training. As soon as I paid them online, they started mistreating me. First, Stacy told me to pay in full and then schedule times for instruction. When I was ready to schedule, she scolded me for having paid in full and told me that I should be aware that they give preference to students who pay for the entire driver's ed program and that I should wait around 3 weeks to have one available instructor. I called, and nobody answered the office phone; I waited, and when I emailed them asking whether I should contact them again or if they would let me know, nobody ever replied. Then, Eddy called me exasperated, telling me he was unwilling to teach on a Saturday or Sunday. Who in their right mind would ask an instructor to teach on a Sunday? I had to calm him down to assure him I never asked or assumed he had to teach me on a weekend. After waiting more time, I received another phone call telling me that I was ready to schedule, and when I told them my suggested times, the person just simply said, "No, that's not going to happen because I drop students at certain hours" without providing any alternatives. So, after almost 6 weeks of being in this back and forth, I finally gave up with them and asked for a refund. I felt as if I was begging for a favor or as if I had been sold on credit. Why don't they state they have a delay policy with certain services? Be aware that they may not treat you respectfully if you sound with an accent or if you happen to be an adult student who has obligations like work or study. I greatly regret wasting my time, energy, and sense of dignity with this company. Needless to say, not recommended.

Fantastic experience: I’m glad I chose Coach Al’s Driving School for my daughter, Eddy and his staff are great instructors they are really good with the young adults. My daughter really learned a lot and came back and shared a few things that I never knew. Thank you Coach Eddy.

Fantastic experience: This is probably the best driving school in Albuquerque you could go to. You definitely learn a lot and the process is super quick and easy. All of my other friends are still getting their permit because usually they’re driving school takes 7months or longer if you are doing it at valley or in any aps school . They all have really interesting stories and the coaches are super supportive and i felt like i was in really good hands the whole time . Coach Eddie is really nice and I enjoyed driving with him . I forgot her name but the lady who reads the book and shows us the videos was super sweet and I enjoyed listening to all of her stories! She was always happy to help or answer any questions ! Anyways yeah I recommend it!

Negative experience: I learned some stuff, but I feel like Eddie mostly just kinda rambled about kids these days and their phones and other unrelated stories like about the time a corpse threw up in his mouth, and he and his son both had me drive while making me panic after emphasizing that I shouldn't drive under stress. I felt comfortable with Vincent (I think that was his name,) but I don't think he's there anymore. I don't really know why this place is so highly rated, but if this is the best it gets here, that kind of explains a lot about the driving in this city!

Fantastic experience: Eddie and Al taught me to drive many years ago. They were great and I still use Al's trick to parallel park. If you're thinking about sending your kid here, do it! They'll drive better for it. Also, I need to say that driving in their pickups gave me so much more confidence on the road, which I'm thankful for every time I get behind a wheel.

Fantastic experience: I signed up for Coach Al's as an adult who had put off learning to drive for many years due to anxiety about the whole idea of being behind the wheel. Until very recently the idea of being comfortable behind the wheel seemed like it just wasn't for me. The instructors at Coach Al's both in class and on the road bring so much experience and were without exception patient and understanding when it came to working around my comfort level and work schedule. I would have to psyche myself up for my driving hours at the beginning, but through facing traffic situations that I was nervous about, I steadily began to feel more comfortable behind the wheel. I am so glad I signed up for this course and if you are on the fence about whether Coach Al's is a good fit for you or your student, I would highly recommend it!!

Fantastic experience: I was a student at Coach Al’s driving school and I had a really good experience there. The instructors are very passionate at what they do, making sure the students understand the dangers of driving a scaring them a little bit but also making the class enjoyable with humor. There are there very supportive and understanding of what you need to do to become a better driver. The bookwork in the classroom is boring but important to know. On the other hand the driving portion is super fun. I highly recommend this driving school for anyone looking to take a drivers Ed class.

Negative experience: one of the instructors called me babe and it was dismissed when i said it made me uncomfortable. same one put me on the freeway because he wasn’t listening to me when i said i have only driven twice before. they’ll also call you out in front of the class if you’re not as good at driving as others

Fantastic experience: Growing up I never had the opportunity to get my drivers license. Since turning 18 I've been stationed overseas with the US Navy for 15 years. Now that I just arrived to ABQ (my first duty station CONUS). I jumped at the chance to finally get my license through Coach Al's driving school. Coach Eddie and his team are very professional, showed a talent for connecting with their students to instill lessons, kept students engaged, built confidence through practice, took the time to ensure students were understanding things/concepts correctly, took pride in their work and most importantly truly care about the well being of every driver they train. This IS the best driving school in New Mexico. Coach Eddie and his team have my strongest possible recommendation to all new drivers, young or older. Thanks again Coach Al's Driving School!!!! *Addressing the review by daniela below* -The instructors at the course make it a point on day one to build trust and communication. The aim, to ensure their students are comfortable enough to communicate any apprehensions, discomforts, or other issues throughout the course. Corrections and adjustments are consistently being made per each student. (I was impressed) As they initially communicated, Coach calls all his softball players babe. Any one that didn't like that, communicated it, and it was corrected. -It is true, new drivers are afraid to drive. You'll never be safer than in the school trucks with the instructors. You're reminded to take your time and practice whenever you can. If you want to learn to swim you have to get in the water, same concept applies driving. -The school house does not call you out for being a bad driver. They may call your actions out for being unsafe, as it is a lesson for all. While in the class I only ever saw students called out for improvements in driving and doing an amazing job driving during sudden snow/ice conditions.

Fantastic experience: My daughter did her road time and tested with Coach Eddy. Was incredibly impressed with his ability to connect with her to ease her nerves of being on the road, and the lessons he taught actually resinated with me too. Great way of expaining things in a way that she could truly understand. Dont go anywhere Coach, you get my son in 2 years!

Fantastic experience: My daughter loved the class. She learned a lot and had fun in the process. The instructors are fun and enthusiastic, they know how to make a personal connection the kids. Definitely came out of the class driving much better and with more confidence. Very helpful and responsive to both students and parents. Got all the information we need the first day, and they even called me back promptly the next day to answer more questions I had. I definitely plan on sending my youngest to this school in a couple of years.

Fantastic experience: Coach was TERRIFIC! In the short time two weeks with our Son, he became a role model and was looked up to by our Boy. Coach provides direction to the student Drivers and recognizes that mistakes happen, but NEVER came down too hard on our Son. Fantastic experience: My wife grew up overseas and never needed to drive until she came to the US. As a result, she’s always been incredibly nervous behind the wheel. After a few lessons with Coach Eddie, her confidence soared and now she’s able to drive anywhere without problems. We highly recommend this school to adult drivers with little or no driving experience.

Not only was my 15 year old son engaged and excited about what he learned, but he continually reminds me how I can improve my driving! He drives on the highway and city streets obeying speed limits and doing an excellent job. Coach Eddie did a great job, I highly recommend the class.

Fantastic experience: This class was really fun and informative! We spent a good amount of time reading the textbook to prepare for the test. But it is really fun and the class feels like a family! The Coaches were funny, nice and really constructive. Be prepared to get into driving really quickly, however they wouldn’t put you in situations when you’re not ready or uncomfortable. Lots of laughs, definitely miss that class! Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Just did my road test today after taking driving lessons with Coach Eddie, and I'm so happy I chose this driving school! I'm an older driver (late twenties) and have had driving phobia for the better part of my life. I took the chance and picked Coach Al's because of reviews from other drivers who were in my position, and I can confirm that this is an excellent place for anxious drivers. Coach Eddie has a great personality, is patient and comforting, and willing to work with your schedule. I couldn't recommend them more!

Fantastic experience: I can't thank Coach Al's enough for turning a bad situation into a great one. We had a bad experience at Old School Driving and requested to transfer her to complete her behind-the-wheel driving hours. When I emailed, I got a prompt, informative and helpful response back from Stacey. After the proper channels were contacted and once my daughter was officially transferred, Coach Eddie did a great job finishing up her hours. My daughter was comfortable, felt confident behind the wheel, and liked that Coach Eddie was patient with her and didn't belittle her for making normal new driver mistakes. I would definitely recommend Coach Al's to anyone. :-)

Fantastic experience: I recently finished my Driver's ed course with Coach Al's, and it was a good experience! All the coach's are incredibly kind and encouraging; they make sure students get hands on practice on the roads (which can be a little nerve wracking, but they are wonderful at putting anxious drivers-like me- at ease after a round or two of driving) and they teach them how to be a safe driver. It is a quick three weeks and it goes by quickly, but within this crash course I learned parallel parking, the all rules of the road and just how to be a good driver in general. The instructors really do care for the kids and it is obvious by the way they interact with them. They want students to be safe, happy,and healthy both on and off the road, so there is a lot of real world life lessons to be learned here as well. It was a pleasure to be a part of this school and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to know how to be the best driver they can be. Thank you Coach Al's for all you do!

Fantastic experience: Going into coach Al's driving school I was extremely nervous, but the coaches and teacher were really nice they made the driving experience really fun and less nerve wracking. We got to learn how to park and drive, and even though we did make mistakes they took the time to kindly correct us. They also were kind enough to get to know us individually and it showed that they really cared. I would definitely recommend Coach Al's driving school!

Fantastic experience: I transferred my son to Coach Al's after wasting a year with another driving school. Within two weeks of my first contact with them, Coach Al's had my son's training complete. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Don't go anywhere else!

Fantastic experience: I'm 29 years old, and for various health reasons and anxiety issues, compounded with bad instructors in the past, I had missed out on getting my drivers license. I didn't know it, but signing up with Coach Al's Driving school and with Coach Eddie was setting myself up for the best success. I took the 7 hour course, and the first lesson was the most difficult. I had a lot of nerves to overcome. But, no matter how many mistakes I made, Coach Eddie was attentive and prepared to correct me without deflating my self esteem. The 2nd lesson onward, I gained incredible confidence and encouragement from the coach, ready to learn, ask questions, and casually converse. The directions given for the roads and routes to take were clearly stated, and Coach Eddie had great planning to maximize learning opportunities. By the time I took my test I was very relaxed and felt comfortable. This was exactly what I had hoped for but wasn't sure was possible. No matter what age or circumstances you're in, I recommend Coach Al's driving school. You won't regret it!

We learned how to park, drive on the freeway and drive though Albuquerque with no fear. All the coaches are friendly and never yell. I would recommend this driving school to anyone. Al’s driving school really brings you from zero to hero when it comes to driving.

Fantastic experience: This was the best place for my son to learn how to drive. The driving instructors are also first responders who have the very real information to share with young drivers. The hands-on driving portion was the best! I didn’t have to pick my son up from class sometimes because the instructor had him drive himself home! These guys are pros at what they do!

Negative experience: Was driving down the frontage road by Comanche when coach als driving school truck cut in front of me while I was slowing down approaching a red light having stop more abruptly. Then saw that the man switched back into his original lane after passing the light where I saw the man talking on his cell phone. I cant say i wnt him teaching driving students

Fantastic experience: i had a great time driving here the coaches are amazing and they talk to you while you drive to help you stay calm. i learned that practice is the best way to learn to drive and i got a ton of driving hours in. by the end of the class i practically knew how to drive i would totally recommend this school.

Fantastic experience: I'm an adult driver with a HUGE amount of anxiety behind the wheel. The thought of driving absolutely terrified me, and for the longest time I was pretty sure I'd never be able to drive. But I found Coach Al's Driving School through reviews and called them to see their opinion on my situation. They assured me that their instructors were all skilled enough to handle my worries, and that I wasn't the first, or last, person to come to them like this. And they were right! I drove constantly with them, learning about the rules of the road and what all goes into driving a car. It's still crazy knowing I can actually drive now! Not only that, but they prepare you well for the tests! You start the class getting your driving permit with their help, and by the end of the class you take the drunk driving course and the written exam. They balanced everything, and you'll see some dramatic results with them!

Fantastic experience: Going to Coach Al’s Driving School was one of the best choices of my life! I met some interesting and funny people! The instructors (Coach Eddie being my personal favorite) always tried to lighten the anxiety of driving by talking us through each thing we learned! They also had their own personal experiences which made the class more realistic and it was easy to connect with certain aspects! Fantastic experience: On the first day, Coach Eddie told us we'd miss them when class ended. Honestly, I didn't believe him one bit but I can assure you, he's right. I just finished their 2 week course at the Unser location and I'm much more comfortable being behind the wheel. My parents noticed improvement in my driving with every lesson. By day 4, we were out driving on busy highways. I got into the car feeling anxious and not knowing where anything was but Coach James and Coach Manuel assured me I'd get the hang of it, they explained everything I needed to do calmly and told me what I needed to work on. Class time was also fun, Ms. Cindy was very sweet and answered every question I had. Her stories made the hours go by fast and I learned a lot from her. You will definitely be forced out of your comfort zone but I promise, it'll be worth it. The staff work with you and your schedule to make sure you get the most driving time you can including being picked up or dropped off at home/school. The instructors here are amazing at what they do, they made these 2 weeks a blast. P.S. Coach Eddie is the awesomest

Fantastic experience: When it comes to driving Coach Al a god, its a mater of life or death if you go any where else. The man will literally teach you how to float your car out of trafic. Worth every penny.

Fantastic experience: What a great guy!! It took me awhile to make a review only because I couldn’t figure out how to do it But let me say he was fantastic. We would make stops and he would actually stop the time, that just felt significant as I was still with him but when he was doing little errands when I thought we were done driving we weren’t. That most definitely felt like I was getting my time and moneys worth!! If I had to come back he would be the one to go to. He would talk to make it more comfortable. But after further thinking it was probably a test to make sure I could multi task so there’s no such think as crashing when talking and driving. I can’t express how he went over and beyond. He would come get me from school and then after I was done I’d go to my house. That was only one of the many conveniences. When I wanted to learn parallel parking we drove around the block quite a few times until I didn’t have to think about it too much longer. I still remember to hand the baby through the window. After we practiced he assured me parallel parking was not on the drivers test but still took the time to teach me. I would still be doing 5+ point turns to parallel park if it wasn’t for Coach Al. Trust me when I tell you, you won’t be disappointed.

When I accepted this job assignment, I planned to learn how to drive and get a driver license in US. This is because it will take about one year to get a driver license in China and public transportation in US is not as convenient as in China. My assignment schedule is quite flexible (may end in April or in September), so I need to complete the learning and get driver license by end of April. Therefore, I need a private behind-the-wheel driving class that supports tight schedule. I did a lot of homework to find out the best driving school in ABQ and after going through almost all online reviews of Coach Al’s driving school, I believe it is the one I am looking for. As a totally new beginner, I was quite nervous during my first driving class. Coach Eddie instructed me how to drive and helped me establishing confidence in a very quick way. I drove on public road in my first class and freeway in my second class. Curve roads, residential roads and some under-construction roads were also included for driving practice. Eddie pointed out my driving problems during each class and then I would practice hard to overcome the problems before next class. I passed my road test 2 weeks later from my first class and already get my driver license. I have rented a car in ABQ and can drive to anywhere that I am interest in now. Have recommend Coach Al’s driving school and Coach Eddie to my colleagues and some of them really interest in and will contact you soon. Fantastic experience: Parents, if you are having troubles deciding which Driving School to have your child attend, may I suggest Coach Al's Driving School. My daughter started with another well known driving school last year. (July 2018) The class portion was fine, but my daughter was never able to get schedule for her driving time, 7 hours of hands on driving instruction with an instructor. Once the driving schools students when back to school so did their instructors. After seven months and only promises of getting my daughter her required driving time, I decided to go to Coach Al's. Coach Al's driving instructor Gary Tafoya, picked up my daughter at her school to start her driving lessons and would end them each time at our home. No dropping off or picking up at the school, which made it so nice for us. Eddie Torres, the schools class instructor direct me on how to get my daughters paperwork transfer from previous school to them, so they could complete the certification and the final driving test for my daughter. Great company for any parent with teens. Highly recommend them. Thank you

Fantastic experience: I have four kids and the youngest went to this driving school. I wish all my kids would have attended this driving school. They made us feel special and the perks that this school (pick up from school, drop off at home, etc...) as part of the driving instruction was great. They have the kids get their permits when the school starts so they can drive with a parent or instructor right of way. They made my daughter feel like their own child. Fantastic experience: I enrolled my son at Coach Al’s for the 7 hour one on one driving lessons. My son had a horrible experience at Old School of Driving in Rio Rancho, so I cancelled with them after only 3 hours of “lessons”. My son (Noah C.) had nothing but great things to say about his instructor, Manuel. Manuel really helped to boost my son’s confidence (unlike the other school). He also answered all of my son’s questions and made him feel at ease. Thank you!!

Fantastic experience: Honestly the best! I've called all around and was treated rudely and without a care. When I called here Kay was honestly so nice about everything! When I had to go to the ER the first time we scheduled a drive she was very concerned and helped me reschedule. Fantastic experience: I have just moved to new mexico and i joined Coach Al’s Driving School and i can honesty say it’s been the best 3 weeks of my life. I made great friends and i learned in a entertaining yet affective way. Coach Al, Coach Eddie, and Mrs. Cindy are amazing instructors and pushed us all out of our comfort zones to make us better drivers. I’m very sad that my 3 weeks is over because i would do it again in a heart beat. They thought us through real life experiences and simulations that encouraged us to be safe drivers. In the parent meeting I learned so much and felt comfortable with my child’s safety and curriculum.
