But Gilbert is truly amazing! From the very first lesson, he made me feel comfortable, confident, and prepared for the road. The road test prep lesson was incredible – it went way beyond just what was on the test, teaching me all the essential maneuvers and various types of parking. Gilbert tailored the lessons to my strengths and weaknesses, which made me feel like I was learning at my own pace. His experience really shines through. There are definitely benefits to engaging a professional instructor like Gilbert, especially in helping you build the muscle memory for driving. I really appreciated it when he demonstrated a great deal of understanding and sympathy when I failed, and he managed to use the next two lessons to address the part of the test which had tripped me over. During my test, I cleared the parallel parking component on the first try with ease. He was also extremely accommodating in terms of scheduling. Thank you Gilbert! :)

Gmel isn't just about passing the test; it's about becoming a proficient, relaxed, safe driver. In summary, Gmel offers a great learning experience with room for a bit more personalized feedback and structured lesson plans. Fantastic experience: I recently took driving lessons from Gmel driving academy after a not so great experience with another driving school. And, I had a great experience with Gmel driving academy and the instructor Gilbert in particular. Gilbert prepared me for my driving test within only 6 hours and I was able to pass my road test on first attempt. He is very effective at what he does; his approach is very methodical and calm. I really liked the fact that he quickly picked up on my weaknesses and provided specific suggestions to improve them. He is also very professional, friendly and punctual; definite pluses. Fantastic experience: Mr. Gilbert has taught my daughter to drive defensively and within a short period, my daughter took the driver's test and passed on her first try. I was impressed with his methodology each time my daughter returned home to tell me about her progress. In total, my daughter took 4 classes in a two-week period and within that short period she was able to skillfully drive me around town. Attending Gmel academy was the best choice for our family. I realized after some time that I did not have the expertise to teach my daughter to drive. I have over 30 years of experience driving all over the country but could not articulate to my daughter in a helpful manner. Needless to say, Mr. Gilbert is a godsend and we are very very grateful to meet him. I plan to send my other daughter to learn from Mr. Gilbert in the future!!! I highly recommend him. I had a class with him a few days before my exam, during a time when the snow in DC was really coming down. Despite this, Gilbert was very patient and gave me good tips on how to parallel park. Fantastic experience: Gilbert taught me the wrongs and rights of driving, he ensured I was prepared to take my driving exam and I passed it on the first try! Although he sometimes became frustrated when I made rookie mistakes, I was able to learn from those mistakes and became a confident driver. Very understanding and makes sure his student succeeds. I've had other instructors from different driving schools who often yelled at me and made me nervous but I didn't experience that nervousness and level of disrespect with Gilbert. Totally recommend!!

Haven't driven much before meeting Gmel but I felt more at ease with driving the more sessions I had with him. He knew the city well and gave amazing recommendations for improvement every time! Fantastic experience: It's taken me a while to write this review but I'm finally doing it. I'm a very anxious person who said I'd never drive and that all changed when I did my driving lessons with Gmel. I started in November once almost every week until March and passed my road test on the first try. Honestly I'm amazed at how simple the instructor made driving seem. Again: I'm a very anxious individual so I'm shocked at how much confidence I have gained through Gmel. Fast forward to now in April, I got my drivers license in the mail last week and I rented out my first car and started driving alone to work and back for a week. It went very well and im pleased with how much information I retained! I'm getting a car very soon with my new-found confidence. Thanks for having so much patience with me.

Fantastic experience: Mr. Gilbert’s energy and demeaned is so kind, encouraging, and supportive. I was so afraid to drive and felt like I waited to late to learn to drive. He was patient with me. I only had three lessons. He also took me on the highway (without the extra fee the other driving schools charge). I parallel parked easily with his step-by-step instructions. He tells you the amount of lessons you need without trying to charge you more. He told me to move my driving test up so I wouldn’t forget the things I learned. Asked me when I planned to take it so he could prepare during our lesson. (Practice test) Passed the test my first try. (You get 3 attempts for parallel parking. Got it right on my second attempt). Worth every penny! Very sweet guy!

Fantastic experience: I first came to him in late September 2021 and our lessons stopped around November of that year. I only had 5 lessons spanning throughout my Saturdays throughout this time because I had a busy schedule as a student working 9-5 and it was all I could pay for at the time. He was very accommodating which is something I loved so much! Even in those 5 2-hour lessons, I had learned so much!!! I learned so much that when I finally could get more lessons in January 2023, it was like riding a bike, I swear!! I still knew what I was doing despite not having the opportunity to drive until our previous lessons (My mother and other family members refused to let me drive without a driver’s license). So, me and him were both shocked that I still could drive well but now I know it was because of a great teacher!!! He teaches in a way where the movements of driving and the correct things to do eventually become automatic the more lessons you do. Repetition is key! He also gave me a video to watch in order to give me a step-by-step guideline to parallel Park This was very helpful for me as I learn better with steps and I am a visual learner. He was up to date with the current standards and tests that the DMV area gives, so during our lessons, he made sure to put in time for me practice parallel parking because he knew they would test me on it. He would tell me exactly where I went wrong so I can try again and be aware of my mistakes. He even taught me how to bring the car closer to the curb without getting out of the parking space!!! This man deserves all of the flowers in the world!!!! After 3 lessons in 2023 he told me i should be ready and I doubted myself of course. I was very anxious. However, he encouraged me to be confident and I would tell him everytime he dropped me off, “I am confident!!” He taught me life lessons all in 8 driver lessons. Be confident and also have the practice to back up that confidence! I told him that even if I didn’t pass he would get 5 stars because his teaching is immaculate!! However, I DID PASS, of course, ON THE FIRST TRY, thanks to his teaching & when he learned I passed, he was outside of the DMV to give me a big hug!!! 1 MILLION THANKS TO THIS GUY!!!!!!

Fantastic experience: I am so glad I found Gmel Driving Academy! As an adult (female, mid-20s) with no previous driving experience, I was nervous, but Gilbert was incredibly patient and encouraging. From day 1, I never felt unsafe or uncomfortable, even when navigating circles or other tricky intersections. He was able to calmly help steer when needed and offered helpful tips and answered all of my questions along the way. His step-by-step approach to parallel parking made it easy to learn. Scheduling was easy, and a HUGE plus that he is able to pick up so you don’t have to travel anywhere. Gilbert is very personable and kind and made sure to take a break halfway through the 2-hour lesson. After 12 hours of lessons and practicing around the test center on the day of the test, I was able to pass on the first try! Gilbert is a calm and insightful instructor who helped get me from no driving experience to getting my license in just a month and a half. Gilbert puts his client’s needs and interests first and is very flexible to make sure that they get what they need. He was happy to set aside time and reschedule things as needed. To Gilbert, it’s all about the client and helping them become the best driver possible (and in the time frame that they need). Similarly, I wanted certain kinds of instruction and practice not on the road test that Gilbert was happy to give me lots of time with (e.g. highway driving at various times of day/levels of traffic). I had a fun time driving around with Gilbert and found his instruction incredibly helpful. I was quite nervous when we first started (being an adult with no driving experience at all), but within just a few lessons I was already feeling very confident on the road. His method of instruction is very much just letting you drive and commenting only where needed to assist and improve your skills. He answers questions politely and thoughtfully. Honestly, can’t recommend Gmel enough!

Fantastic experience: Gilbert is a wonderful driving instructor. I decided to take his refresher course because after years of not having a car and mainly using public transit, I am planning to purchase one soon. Gilbert is much better than the driving instructors I had as a teenager. He provides great tips, clear instructions, and doesn't make you feel bad for making mistakes. He is able to expertly and calmly maneuver the car to avoid near accidents while you are learning. I had great driving sessions with him and highly recommend his classes.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this booking with Mr. Gilbert. I started taking lessons in May but they weren't consistent and I wasn't driving after my lessons. Fantastic experience: Update - I wanted to say another thank you for such good driving lessons! Your tips are still helping me and I feel safe and confident. I had a positive experience using Gmel driving and think it’s more affordable than many in the area. Thank you for helping me pass my test! I worked with Mr Nelson at first then Mr Gilbert took over - both were professional and friendly instructors. Mr Gilbert has a way of listening to you even when he does not immediately respond and making sure he answers your questions; he gave me good tricks for parallel parking and the like. Also accommodating with schedules. He can be quite firm when correcting repeated mistakes or a risky move, but I took it as constructive teaching. Overall a great school and I recommend!

Fantastic experience: I tried to get my driver license in a month and booked 3 classes with Gilbert. He's an amazing instructor. He pointed out all the areas that I needed to improved, and the deduct points in the test I may neglected. Also he's patient. I was around 34 weeks pregnancy, he would sometimes drop me off at my place to make me get home easier. Thanks for all his guidance, I passed my parallel parking and road test smoothly. Fantastic experience: Gilbert is such a great teacher! Took a few lessons with him and was able to pass my road test on the first go. The biggest thing I appreciate about Gilbert is that he offers pick up anywhere within DC which significantly cut down on my commute time and cost. Also he’s a very patient teacher who is willing to explain the same concepts multiple times until you understand. It was also not awkward driving with him. Fantastic experience: Highly recommend! I had been taking a few classes this month with a different driving school, but was never fully comfortable and got too nervous with how that instructor taught. But I had a road test coming up and knew I needed more practice. I emailed Gmel Driving Academy and some other schools last minute asking if they had any spots the same week that I could take to prep for my road test. Gmel was the first and only one to reply back and Mr. Gilbert emailed, called, and texted first thing the next day. I was surprised and appreciative of how quickly he communicated through the whole week. I booked both their open sessions and in just two sessions (one two days before and one day of my road test), I practiced general driving, turns, the test route, all kinds of parking, and even some highway driving. I certainly got the most out of my time and was so thankful for his instruction. He was patient, encouraging, and knew how to guide/talk me through what I was expected to do. We also had a great chat in each session. It was also very helpful that they can pick you up at your home for not that much more of a cost - which also helped me get practice driving in my own neighborhood. I took my road test and passed! I'll most likely look into their highway driving practice as well so I can get more comfortable on the highway too. Thank you again, Gmel Driving Academy!

Fantastic experience: The instructors are extremely professional yet down to earth. As a young woman I always felt comfortable and safe during my sessions. I was most impressed with their patience when I’m behind the wheels. They provided clear and concise instructions so that you can easily process what’s being expected of you. The best part about their service is that they take you in the same vicinity of the test site so that you can familiarize yourself with the route. I passed my driving test on the first try!! Gilbert responds to text and calls promptly and is sure to communicate if there are any last minute updates. The vehicle was clean and easy to maneuver for being that I’m a beginner. I highly recommend this driving school.
