Vance's Driving School

Fantastic experience: Rick is a very good driving instructor that prepared both our children to pass the driving test with ease. He is personable and flexible! His rates are also very reasonable. We would recommend this school to anyone who wants no nonsense, real driving instruction.

Fantastic experience: Rick Vance is the the best driving instructor! I would give him many many more stars if possible. I am in my 50s; Rick provided clear and practical instructions that made me comfortable and confident from the first moment behind the wheel. He’s the best!!

Negative experience: The positives: Rick teaches the material in detail and pays close attention while students are doing their driving hours, correcting and instructing along the way. However: Rick was reluctant to honor our family policy of not leaving our daughters alone with men. When the "plan changed" and he said he was going to ride alone with our daughter, rather than the other student meeting at the office - I tried to think of other solutions, and Rick became vaguely hostile, and quite pushy. I explained that it wasn't personal - just our policy. In the end, I chose to ride along, rather than his being alone with our daughter. Rick seemed offended and angry, and stated that he was offended - but acquiesced to let me join them. This experience seems like a red flag - and made us quite uncomfortable. (I see from at least one other review that it seems like we are not alone in our being concerned.) Despite attentive, detailed driving instruction, and the fact that nothing "happened," I do not recommend sending a child to this school - because of my concerns about the health and safety of the student(s).

Negative experience: School counselor heard multiple students talking about experiences and pulled us aside saying she had to make a mandated report due to what we were saying sbout him. Filed 5 reports to the dmv and when we called the woman operating said sighed and said “Oh we get a lot of reports on him, already had 20 this month” that should say something. Good riddance!

Fantastic experience: He will never steer you wrong, and Rick is always right! I had a great experience learning from Rick on everything that I needed to know in order to become a safe, great driver - from hands-on car maintenance, insurance, traffic laws, and the dangers of bad behavior when driving. He’s got a good personality to keep you listening as he teaches, and he cares for his students by answering the questions they have and also giving them the boost of confidence they need so that they can keep a good attitude on the road. A tough love type of guy, he wont baby you and hold your hand through everything the whole time - he knows his students are capable because they’re Vances students. Recommend!

He helps you find where everything is and how to check the oil, windshield fluid ext. If you want the best driving experience you should definitely check into this school, he is also a great driver definitely knows what he talking about.

Fantastic experience: I give Vance’s Driving school 5,000,000 out 5 stars, because not only is he one of the funniest people I know, but he also teaches other things like how to recharge a battery, how to swap out a tire, how to pump gas, and many many many more. He teaches stuff the right way, no other driving school teaches the same way he does, compared to other drivers ed schools he is at the top of the top, he knows what he is doing and he always knows right. All in all, I would always recommend this driving school to everyone I know, because he is the best, and there is no doubt in my mind that if you take his driving school you will pass, even if your the most Brian dead human alive he will find a way to make you pass, because like he said ” Rick is always right”.

Fantastic experience: 10 million stars. Rick is a great teacher and is very knowledgeable. Loads of experience. Very honest with what you need to fix as well. He literally works 10 hours a day, 7 days a week (70 hours for the people who can't do math) (30 more hours than the average 40 hour work week [although if Bernie gets his way in the Senate, it'll be 38 more]) He is literally the funniest person on the planet, knows everything you need to know and more, and tells you things the way they are. You will laugh 3,000 times with him once you sign up (because I'm sure you will sign up once you see his competition compared to him). This dude is amazing and does it all on his own. Absolutely impressive. The only way you couldn't pass is if you didn't have a brain. His record is nearly 100 students passing their test in a row. EVERYONE will pass. So happy that I went here and not somewhere like Mullen's or Mum's.

I never thought I’d actually have my license. I cannot thank Rick enough for taking the time to teach me and help me get through my anxiety driving. 10/10

Fantastic experience: Vance's is definitely a good driving school, especially if you want to learn things that only Vance's teaches. Vance's is definitely better than mullen's by far. I was able to take in a lot of stuff about the roads and driving and it was a great experience. I really propose that people use vances to teach their kids how to properly drive. Vance's teaches stuff that no other driving schools teach and I absolutely loved the class. Its a good way to not only make friends but also learn. If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would.

Fantastic experience: Rick did a private lesson/refresher for my daughter just prior to her road test and was very helpful in calming her nerves and making sure she was aware of everything they would cover during the test particularly items we weren’t aware of. She passed with flying colors which she probably wouldn’t have due to nerves or being thrown off by something as simple as how to turn on the parking break.

Fantastic experience: They took me in almost the same route the test was on. I told him where i needed help and he focused on that. Without vance i wouldn't have passed my road test. Thats a fact go through vance and thank me later.

Fantastic experience: We used Vance’s driving school for a 2 hour lesson for our permitted daughter. We chose to use vances after a not so great experience with drivers-Ed at another place. She learned a lot in that 2 hours with more patience and direction from the instructor!! Also Vance was great with communication and got back to us promptly to schedule an app. Only A few days later. We plan on using Vance’s for our boys as well and we highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Took advantage of their pre-test driver’s license practice run an hour before the real test!! My daughter loved it and was very nervous but he was able to calm her down and make it all make sense. She passed and well worth the cost. Thanks again we will recommend this to everyone

Fantastic experience: I am so happy I choose Vance’s for my son Anthony’s driving school. I was nervous on how it would go where he has a hard time sitting in class in school but he did not once complain about going to a single class at Vance’s. He said he respects Vance because he is “ real “ and tells it how it is. He enjoys driving with him and he even took him to show him some classic cars he was interested in. Vance is knowledgeable, flexible and accommodating!

Negative experience: Rick Vance is a pretty awful driving instructor. He taught me how to drive but decided to bring up controversial topics every driving lesson. Not only did he make fun of me for my choice of school but he also made VERY transphobic comments. Rick seems to have no problem stating his controversial views even whilst it is clearly making the lesson uncomfortable. Not only that but he also belittles all of his students and constantly brings up the fact that they don't know how to drive. Did I mention that he throws genuine garbage out of the windows of the car whilst driving? All in all Vance's driving school is not the best driving school in the area. Realistically, I would rate my experience 0 stars if I could.

Fantastic experience: Rick was very good to work with and I was very very happy with my experience working with him. He was very willing to work with me to get my hours in and was extremely easy to communicate with. I got a 100 on my final quiz and highly encourage anyone looking to do drivers Ed to go with Vance’s.

Fantastic experience: Rick Vance is a great teacher, his lessons allow me to learn information while also giving me the opportunity to put the knowledge I obtained to real world driving. I'm not always the best at learning new things, but I felt as though Vance's Driving School taught me very well. I understand the rules of the read in a way I never did before!

Fantastic experience: Vance's driving school is probably the best driving school in Maine at the moment. Rick Vance is incredibly clear and concise with how he teaches, and when he sits down to drive with you he explains everything you do right and everything you do wrong in great detail. He shows you common mistakes new drivers make and small things you can do that greatly improve the quality of your driving and the chance of you passing your driver's test your first time. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I hired Rick as a prep instructor for my daughter for a few rounds before her test. He was reassuring to her and gave great constructive criticism with room to show improvement after. He was honest and fair. I was not sure she would pass as a nervous mom, but I firmly believe that hiring Rick was the best choice for her and helped her reach her confidence to pass. Absolutely worth the money.

Fantastic experience: Rick taught both of my kids how to drive, and years ago myself as well. He’s extremely patient with his teaching, and my kids felt very comfortable driving with Rick. My son had attended another school in town, and he was a nervous wreck! Rick took him on and did some private lessons with him, and he passed the fist time he took his test! We also did test preps for both of the kids, and I felt they were extremely beneficial! My Daughter did the prep with Rick and passed the first time as well. He prepares the kids; she makes them feel at ease. Both of my kids really liked Rick, and I could call him up and he always made time to help the kids. He always found a way to squeeze them in for a lesson. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer anyone to this driving school! Thank you, Rick for being patient, and making the kids feel a level of comfort driving that they needed!
