Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic experience with Shield Driving School in Harrisburg, PA. My daughter took her driving lessons here and also completed her driver’s license exam with them. From start to finish, the entire process was smooth and professional. A huge thank-you to Taylor for being so patient and encouraging during my daughter's practice sessions. She helped build my daughter’s confidence behind the wheel and gave her practical tips that truly made a difference. Additionally, Ray was incredibly kind and helpful during her license exam. Positive experience: Most of the staff is wonderful. My son had lessons with Tim, who was AMAZING!! He then tested with Jeff, who made him so incredibly anxious. Amazingly, my son still passed the test but was in tears afterwards. Not sure why this man is permitted to test anyone, but I'd definitely recommend testing through PennDOT and reading reviews of recommended instructors here before enrolling for lessons w them.

Negative experience: Wasn’t easy to schedule. We chose the 2 hour lesson with the road test. Even though it wanted me to schedule online, it wouldn’t allow me to schedule the test at the same time. I then called and got everything worked out. The man said he would be the person doing the lesson and test for my son. Turns out one person did the lesson, and another did the test. The whole reason we did the driving school was for his anxiety so he knew the person giving him his test. He passed thankfully, but I won’t be using this driving school again for my younger child.

Fantastic experience: Ray is great instructor/tester. His sense of humor helped take away some nervousness during the test. I would recommend Ray and Shield driving school to anyone who needs a license.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful. Can’t recommend enough. Every instructor and everyone we spoke to on the phone was so kind, patient and helpful. We had a lot of questions and they helped us navigate the process. Our daughter did very well with the instruction and it gave us the confidence that she was ready to drive on her own. Each instructor came to the door before and after lessons and gave us notes on her progress so we knew what to work on. All around an amazing experience from start to finish.

Fantastic experience: I took my test with Ray and he was great. His energy and sense of humor made my nerves go away and made the test a lot calmer. If you haven't, check out their Parallel Parking video on YouTube - it honestly changed my life haha. I was so nervous about parallel parking but watching their video and taking the hints from it got me parked in one try.

Fantastic experience: Huge thanks to Shield, I came in today and passed my test on the first go! I started my first lesson afraid to even CONSIDER accelerating and hovered my foot across the break pedals as if my life depended on it; my turns were...something to say the least, and I barely knew which buttons and knobs did what. By the end of my final lesson, it felt like I'd become someone new. I looked forward to every lesson and felt awesome sitting in the driver's seat! Each instructor gave me constructive feedback that allowed me to apply new knowledge to driving while also allowing me the independence to learn on my own accord while still maintaining a large degree of safety. It felt reassuring to see my mistakes met with understanding and even a joke to diffuse any anxiety. Huge shout-outs to Mr. T Sanville, Mr. M Farling, Mr. R Johnson, Mr. S Ashby, and Mr. R Magaro! Fantastic experience: I found shield to be absolutely incredible. Despite my daughter and I not being super happy with the first person that gave her the driving test. Each instructor and the second person to give her a driving test was very professional and very nice. I highly recommend shield driving school. Terry and Reggie both instructors were so great to work with. My daughter learned so much over the course of 10 hours of driving with them.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Shield Driving School. From start to finish the entire process was smooth, professional, and pleasant. We used Shield as a supplement to parental instruction and it allowed our young driver to learn from a different perspective and provided unique driving experiences and teaching methods. Our instructor was always punctual, took time to speak to us after each lesson, and had a great rapport with our driver. The ability to schedule via their website portal and have them pick our driver up at school was so convenient. Plus, being able to take the test at their facility was much less stressful than the DMV. This is money well spent! Thank you, Shield.

Negative experience: Wow first off the the lady Taylor is great inside in out great customer service in seems very nice in wants u to pass on the other hand Jeff the african American guy and the retired police officer were terrible I would not referr anyone to go to them if u do go to shield go to someone else pls rude and just plain ignorant my daughter feelings were hurt how they talked to her she failed twice with them but passed at PennDOT good luck everyone

Fantastic experience: This driving school is great! I was doing my practice after school, which they drive to, for 2 hours with Patty Achenbach. She was very nice and respectful, and I gave her the nickname "Patty-Mick-Patterson". We had fun talking while practicing, and I learned a lot under her. Everyone else was super nice when I went to take my test, and I didn't have any bad experiences. Taylor was the one who took me in my test, and she was definitely nice and very calm. Definitely worth a try

Positive experience: Honestly the courses were amazing and I learned a lot super packed with information but the testing at this facility is not worth it. The testers were super critical about things that have nothing to do with the rules on the road or the things that I DIDNT even learn were important during my courses. They give you a car you don’t know (they don’t give you the car your use to during practice courses) which can derail anyone especially since they don’t even give you time to know the car for a couple of minutes. When I told the tester this I was told that that doesn’t matter even though every one of the course teachers tell you themselves that every car has their own personality and you have to get use to your own car before you drive it properly. Then when you fail you have to pay again. You are better off scheduling advance for PennDot where it’s free.

Fantastic experience: i passed my test first time around. The three driving practices they provide preps you very well. The instructors are very kind and welcoming. They are also organized and friendly. Never had a problem.

Fantastic experience: My child, Alyvia Lozano-Pritchard, found Mrs. Achenbach and Mr. Piper to be outstanding teachers. Mrs. Achenbach offered driving experiences that required her to use what she had already learned by driving in the rain, navigating round-a-bouts, and parallel parking. Mrs. Achenbach was supportive and encouraging. Similarly, Mr. Piper challenged Alyvia to be a perceptive, confident and safe driver during their two-hour session in the city over rush hour. He reviewed parallel parking skills with her and let her know how she could improve her driving. She's now a licensed driver. We're grateful for Shield's program and for these two teachers.

Positive experience: I haven't used this driving school. But seeing their vehicles crossing multiple lanes without signaling and going well over the speed limit because I was speeding and they passed me like I was sitting still. I can't believe that these are the people that are teaching others to drive. Maybe they should get some lessons themselves. Or at the very least don't drive that way in a company vehicle. I'm not saying I'm better but if you're driving a vehicle for a driving school you probably should drive it the way you would teach someone to drive.

Fantastic experience: Just wrapped up driving lessons and exam for my 16 year old daughter. Shield instructors were great. They provided excellent feedback at the end of each lesson which allowed me to continue to work with her on improving her skills. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: This company would get a negative stars if that option was available. The staff is extremely rude, they don't care about the individual; they tell the students they are ready for the road (they clearly are not!!! and then they fail the person because the instructors aren't paying attention to the student during the test (just happened today) or the student does not have enough driving time to take the test in the first place ! Not only do they NOT teach your child (or grandchild) but they also suck money out of you if given the chance! I strongly advise NOT using them and I will be demanding a refund !!!!!

Negative experience: I'm not sure I would trust this driving school to teach anyone how to drive. About 5 minutes ago as I was driving through Linglestown, a man driving a "Sheilds Driving School" car was by himself and tailgating me in a 25 mph zoned area that doesn't change to 45 mph until you reach the fire station, and then through up his hands in frustration because I was driving too slow for him. If someone representing that driving school can't understand basic speed limits, why would you trust him to teach teenagers how to drive?

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience at Shield from booking to test taking. My son was eligible January 13th for his drivers test and even though we had tried to book several months prior the first available appointment was not available til March at our local testing centers. I called into shield and they were able to schedule us for his eligibility date on short notice. They explained everything over the phone, sent the route for the test (which was helpful since we are not from the area) and were very accommodating. Test day came and my son had Ray Magaro. He was absolutely amazing! My son loved him, and gave him a huge hug when he passed. I have already recommended shield to many friends who have teens that have also been unable to get into Penn Dot on their kids eligibility dates! Thank you shield and Ray!

Positive experience: This driving school was very good for learning to drive. I took many of my classes with Ms Willard, who was very polite and helped me calm when driving. I then took my test with Jeff, who did not help me relax, and spent much time playing games on an iPad, and failed me for driving "Too slow" on a road that has 25mph, also very ignorant so if you get him you'll have a higher chance of failing. Took the test again today and passed with someone new!! I thank shield driving and everyone involved, because they know how to work wonders for people especially those who may not be sure about certain topics and have questions. Good school, some better than others but great!!

Fantastic experience: Today I did my road test for my license and passed with flying colors! If you are thinking of doing your road test, definitely schedule with them. I did the Behind-The-Wheel driving lessons with Terry, and he did not disappoint. He helped me build my confidence on the road and guided me when I went on the highway for the first time. He was calm and patient with me and I felt very prepared when it was time for my test. The training went smoothly and I highly recommend Terry if you are considering the Behind-The-Wheel lessons. Jeremy did my road test with me and I felt cool and collected the whole test. He was very kind and eased my tension during the driving. Overall, schedule with Shield! You won't regret it :).

Fantastic experience: Everyone was very kind including office staff. Laney was the absolute sweetest, making sure I was as prepared as can be for my driver’s test. Tim was very understanding of my nervousness when testing. I definitely recommend both their testing and behind the wheel. Scheduling was quick and easy.

Negative experience: ZERO STARS FOR FINGERPRINTING... Only talking about fingerprints, I have no experience with driving school. There is a reason you can get in quickly here. First trip, after trying to take the appointment after me first,( yes, I was on time). Lady was unable to process cdl license. Told first time this ever happened. Asked to come back with other identification, and would get right in..... Week later, armed with cdl and passport this time....waited another 1/2 hour to get in. So much for getting right in. Same lady as last time.... told me same thing happened later and just restarted machine and worked with a laugh... ha ha should have done that with me...oh well what's a second trip. Bottom line...go somewhere else....I know I will.

Fantastic experience: We highly recommend Shield Driving school and testing center. Perry Capurro was an excellent instructor. He was very knowledgeable, patient and supportive. We were concerned about our son getting behind the wheel of a car, but feel much more confident in his ability since working with Mr Perry. Our test instructor was also excellent!

My son had Perry Capurro as his driving instructor and he was great! Perry was patient, honest with his opinions, and he even gave my son "homework" too. My kid can parallel park better than his Dad and! I can't thank them enough for everything. You guys (especially Taylor, Perry, and Jeremy) are a great group of people! You run a good business and I will definitely be using you guys in the future!

Fantastic experience: Great experience with solid, experienced instructors. I've had 4 of my kids through Shield behind the wheel training to help reinforce what I have taught them.

Fantastic experience: A month ago, I was petrified at the thought of being behind the wheel. I've never liked the idea of driving, hence why I'm 23 and have just now gotten into it all. At 16, I didn't have a purpose or motivation to drive. At 18 I got my first job, and knew I'd have to start soon. My father was going to teach me just like he did my sisters, since he was a professional truck driver. But at 19, he passed away and I went back to not even touching my study book. It's taken me a long time to get to this point, but I was left with no other choice after years of getting rides. I bought my first car in August of this year without even being able to test drive it. I wasn't able to learn easily from my family; too nervous with them as they were with me. Upon looking into classes, I came across Shield. A month ago, I took my first lesson. Last week, I got my license. With just 3 of the 2 hour lessons, I am completely changed. I was met with so much kindness, patience, and respect. I had numerous teachers (shout out to Mr. Miller and Mr. Johnson) and all were so helpful in teaching me without judgement. I went from shaky hands jerking the wheel in parking lots on the verge of tears to now being able to parallel park without backup cameras and driving myself to and from work everyday. I'm mind blown that after waiting so many years I was able to learn to drive. I faced my fears, and I couldn't have done it without Shield. The day I went for my test here with Jeremy, I nearly cried of relief when I left. Relief knowing I had independence. Relief knowing I didn't have to depend on others and burden them. Thank you to everyone at this company. Thank you for allowing us to learn. For teaching with such kindness and so thoroughly. Thank you for taking me under your wing and creating a good driver. It was an honor to gain my license here. If I could do it, anyone can. I highly recommend them to everyone who is just 'thinking', you won't be diss disappointed. (:

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about the experience we have had as a family with Shield. All three of my kids (22, 19 and 16) went through their program and my youngest just passed her test Saturday. Brad runs an amazing company and I have to give a specific shout out to Terry Mesec who was an incredible instructor ! We have the utmost respect for Terry who served our country as a Marine for many years prior to Shield. Also want to say that Ray Magaro who conducted my daughters test is an awesome person who cares deeply about his job and the people he deals with and it shows in his customer service. All around 5 star+ experience and I would recommend Shield to anyone that asked me!

Negative experience: One of these vehicles pulled out in front of me coming out of the plaza without looking left. Happened around 730ish this morning. I thought Driving school was supposed to teach you to look BOTH ways before making a right turn, not only one. I do have a license plate number but will only give it if needed. I was definitely perturbed since I had my son in the car!

Fantastic experience: Shield Driving School was such a blessing to our family. My son struggled with confidence and anxiety over driving, which was amplified by my personal anxiousness. We made the choice for their most in depth 60 hours of instruction plan. Shield made his driving education experience easy and stress free for all of us. The instructors were calm, encouraging and professional, taking each day to build upon his knowledge base and see that he was progressing. Each day we noticed him looking forward to his lessons more and more as his confidence in himself skyrocketed. Knowing he was in Shield's hands allowed us to rest assured he was in the best hands and receiving the best instruction. We knew eventually he would pass his driving test, however, we more focused on him simply becoming the best driver he could be. Shield accomplished this, and we are very grateful for the time they took to help him succeed. He passed first time trying a couple weeks ago. Every one of his instructors were amazing, however, Mr. Mesec was especially wonderful, making sure he put him at ease with talking about his favorite subjects to help him relax and motivate him to have courage to take the next step. Fantastic experience: Overall good experience. I would recommend instructors Mesec and Zeigler because they are very responsible and helpful when teaching me to drive.

Positive experience: It was a bit rough at the beginning, but once I got used to my instructor, it got a lot better. I will say that they expect you to do a lot of the practicing on your own, so it's less teaching you to drive and more preparing you for the test. That being said, I'm looking forward to taking mine!

Fantastic experience: I loved the training sessions they give’d, the driver instructor was patient and funny. He helped me learn at my own past and didn’t over react or tres me out. The instructions where easy and simple to understand given by the introductory. The driving test was great as well, he was patient and understanding. He was funny and it helped me out a lot with having stress a lot. I’m thankful for this school and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for good teachers and trying to take the driving test. They do not do driving permits though. Just in case anyone gets confused about that.

Fantastic experience: We haven't had any lessons yet, but Jeremy (the gm) is so kind and patient and helpful, I have no doubt the lessons will be equally as enjoyable!

Fantastic experience: My daughter used this service to help her with "behind the wheel". The instructors were very thorough and answered each and every question ( probably like a million questions lol) and were understanding and patient. She was also able to take her drivers license road test with them and Ray (her instructor) was very kind and thorough as well( wayyyyyyy more understanding and kinder than penndot).I would definitely recommend this business to anyone who has a child who is learning to drive or struggling in certain areas learning how to drive.
