Phoenix Truck Driving Institute is a renowned institution dedicated to providing comprehensive training for aspiring truck drivers. With a focus on hands-on experience and personalized instruction, students benefit from knowledgeable instructors like Daniel, Kenny, and Randy, who are praised for their commitment to student success. The school's welcoming environment fosters a sense of community, making it feel like a 'home away from home' for many of its students. The curriculum is designed to take individuals from zero experience to obtaining a Class A CDL in just a few weeks, and many graduates have secured good-paying jobs shortly after completion.
Key Highlights:
- Knowledgeable and supportive instructors committed to student success.
- A variety of class schedules including part-time and weekend options to accommodate different lifestyles.
- Job placement assistance with connections to various trucking companies.
- A community-oriented environment that encourages students to help each other.
- Focus on manual truck driving skills with no restrictions on CDLs upon completion.
While many students have had positive experiences, some concerns have been raised regarding the student-to-instructor ratio, which can affect the amount of driving time available for practice. Additionally, a few students noted instances of inconsistency with instruction during busy periods. However, feedback typically emphasizes the quality of instruction and the dedication of the staff, suggesting that those who put in the effort are well-equipped to succeed in their trucking careers.
Phoenix Truck Driving Institute: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Daniel and Kenny are great individuals that teach you step by step to get you where you need to be big shout out to them!!!
We're happy that Daniel and Kenny were helpful in your training process, thank you for sharing!
Fantastic experience: Definitely the best school out there, instructors Daniel and Kenny are the best out there. I’ve never stepped foot into a tractor let alone drive standard, and here I am with my CDL thanks to Daniel and Kenny. I’ll definitely be recommending everyone to this school. Everything they teach here is very helpful and worth it. Stop reading this and go enroll already!
Thank you for the awesome review Alfredo, we can't wait to see where the road takes you!
Fantastic experience: Every place has its trouble. The instructors and staff helped us as students pull thru. It's not easy training so.eone off the streets to drive a RIG. Thank you phoenix truck driving institute
Thank you for the 5-stars Kenneth, here's to an exciting future in trucking!
Positive experience: Here's my complete honest review of Phoenix Trucking school. Phoenix trucking school has great staff. Brandy is probably my favorite instructor. And before Marvin left he was probably runner-up. I took the evening class they will go above and beyond to help you get gainful employment once you obtain your CDL license through them. And they give you lifelong assistance in helping you find work which is great. They will teach you everything you need to know to drive a 8 gear manual stick shift semi truck. Be aware that you may end up with at least 12 to 20 students per class and they only have two time slots mornings and evenings. You can go full-time or part-time. I recommend going part-time if you can go in the afternoon from 2:30 to 6:30 is probably the best time because it's not overwhelmed with students later on in the day you have more people showing up. You will get less time doing maneuvers you will get less time in the truck doing stuff like the in-cab inspection which is probably one of the most important things you need to know in order to get through your tests. At this point there are four tests the pre-inspection the three maneuvers you need to know and the over the road test. You will be tested by a man named Tim there might be others coming in but before I left he was the one testing you. This guy is straight up by the book he is not nice nobody likes him but he has a wealth of knowledge. Also be advised that if he is testing you he cannot train you in any capacity it is against federal law. Also remember that testers do nothing but observe you they do not give you any feedback they just watch everything that you do until you're done with each test and then depending on how you do they either will stop you if you have made too many mistakes on one of the tests or simply give all the information to the instructor on site after your test phase. Other important things to be aware of is this is an older trucking school the trucks are old they don't keep them super clean the range aka the lot is kind of dirty there's a parking yard right next door that's a dirt lot and the truckers that pull in their trailers to park them kick up a lot of dust which will come into the range AKA lot where you are practicing your maneuvers or standing around. Their shade canopies are trash you are literally standing around in dirt so you will get dirty. It's kind of annoying but just remember that you're not there for all of that you're there to learn how to drive a stick shift semi truck. Also remember that you will not have any restrictions on your CDL license when you complete everything. They also give you progress reports (very important) if you are following behind they will sit down with you and go over where you are and the expectations they have. You will have you sign some paperwork. Most of the students are veterans and ex-cons trying to rehabilitate their life. Everyone is pretty cool I never had an issue with any other student. The number one thing I can tell people is to apply yourself. Before I left there was only two instructors in the evening and two instructors in the day they started breaking us up into groups usually foir to five people to do pre-inspection while some did maneuvers and usually one instructor takes four students over the road to show them how to shift gears and proper over the road etiquette and safety. They will expect you to do call-outs when you are on the road so when you are in the truck with other students who have been there longer pay attention to what they are doing and what they saywhen they're driving. There's a lot to learn but don't be afraid to ask questions not only to instructors but to fellow students have been there longer.
Negative experience: was hesitant to enroll with little money left and prior violations on my record but they assured me it's a "case-by-case" with hiring companies. unless you already know someone, don't get your CDL. there's too much competition. federal regs say don't look past so many years but these companies hold people accountable for stuff 10+ years ago. nice know everybody...
Hi Wil, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would like to look into this and help you, but we can't find your name in our database. Please send us an email at [email protected] so we can further assist you.

Fantastic experience: PTDI was nothing but an exceptional school and expirience; each instructor has their own training method each is equally effective. kenny gets you understanding each maneuver and how you are supposed to perform each one, danny fine tunes it and perfects your maneuvers. they are the two best instructors you could ask for!
We're grateful to hear this, Alex! Thank you!

Fantastic experience: Extremely knowledgable instructors and staff. The course was very smooth and can get you from zero experience to a Class A CDL with endorsements in 4 weeks. They provide job assistance after the course and have recruiters from a handful of large companies come speak to the class and get them prequalified for a job as soon as they complete the course. They also offer multiple schedule options to fit your schedule. Weekday mornings and evenings, full time, part time and weekends. They are accredited to accept the GI Bill and there are grants available. If you’re pursuing a CDL, this is the place to do it. Call or stop by for any questions or just to get information.
We greatly appreciate your kind words Arik! Thank you for choosing us as your CDL school.
Fantastic experience: This was is a great school with excellent instructors!! Big shout out to Randy and Anthony, they taught me everything I needed to get my CDL. We're incredibly happy to hear that, Mathew! Thank you for the positive review.
Fantastic experience: The school is quick an the trainers are professional the know what there doing all you have to do is exactly what they instruct an study a few papers. It is a layer back environment but it can get physical with hands on training. I'm glad I went there got my CDL in 2 1/2 weeks.i strongly recommend going there but if you are a dysfunctional listener an don't know you a** from your elbow you won't last lol. They are very understanding an lenient so it is an great school to go to.
Thank you for choosing us as your CDL school, we appreciate the review!

Fantastic experience: I had the most exciting experience going to Phoenix truck driving Institute. While I was going to truck driving school I was able to gain trucker friends and learn a lot from some great instructors first and foremost. I want to give a shout out to Danny. He is super great very straightforward about his business and if you listen to him, he will get you through it also shout out to Lily Kenny JR Paul, TJ Anthony Randy all great instructors. And if you really apply yourself and listen to the instructors you will pass I highly recommend this School To anybody who’s looking to change at career life I had the most experience the most fun and also to able to change my career path in a matter of a month and a half. It is absolutely worth it, but you have to really apply yourself if you want to make that change. I want to thank again, my boy Danny for keeping it all the way 100 thank you again Phoenix truck driving for allow me to learn the skills and learn my maneuvers and learn my pre-trip On the little time while I was at school, I recommend this school to anybody
Thank YOU for giving this new chapter your all!! We are so excited to see what the future holds for you and happy to be a part of it. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Fantastic experience: As a newly graduate I would say that I had one of the best experiences that ever happened in my life. The instructors and everyone apart of Phoenix Truck driving institute has been the best to me and I want to thank them for that. I also would like to say that, if you want the experience shoot for the stars and don't think for a second that your anxiety will be any lower than how you came in because there's times where they can be hard on you because they want you to be successful in your career. At moments I felt that I might not have the best of chances to one reason and that's me feeling like I didn't have enough time in the truck due to a high ratio of 13:1, but I would say that you are in the trucks enough to where there striving to educate you and enough to get your shifting right so it's all up to your standards on how you take in the information and apply it. I would also like to say if you are wanting to elevate your career I advise you to do one thing and that's to build a great alliance to help you swivel your way through on things that you might not know or other ways to perfect your maneuvers. Signing off coach and shout outs to Marvin, Tim, Lauren, lavon, Roxie, Stacy and Brandy for everything you've done or could have done.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! We understand that sometimes it feels like you may not have enough truck time, however we are just getting you started! Once you start working with a company you're going to get much more time behind the wheel and you'll already feel at home there after starting with us! We are thankful for you sharing your experience and proud to be a part of your journey.

Negative experience: Avoid Phoenix Trucking at All Costs I recently attended Phoenix Trucking with the goal of obtaining my CDL. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely negative. Despite meeting all of my required school hours, the school claimed I had not attended for 10 consecutive days. This was a complete misunderstanding that could have been easily resolved had the school staff been more responsive to my communication attempts. The instructors at Phoenix Trucking were inconsistent in their teaching methods and often provided conflicting information, leaving me feeling unprepared for the licensing exam. The school also seemed to favor certain students over others, which created a stressful and unfair learning environment. I am particularly disappointed with the school's lack of understanding and support during my high-risk pregnancy. As a working full-time student, I needed flexibility in my scheduling, but the school was unwilling to accommodate my needs. I strongly advise anyone considering Phoenix Trucking to choose a different institution. This money hungry school is more concerned with making money than providing quality education. I personally lost almost $5,000 and still did not obtain my license. Instead, I recommend considering [Southwest Trucking] as a more supportive and reliable option.
Fantastic experience: Good instructors, good school i learned a lot, danny is a mf but good ass instuctor great people in sight had a good experience thank you phx driving school
Thank you for the 5-stars Daniel!
Fantastic experience: Phoenix Trucking Driving Institute was very well structured and the instructors were very knowledgeable. Special thanks to Danny, TJ, JR and Kenny.
Thank you for the kind words Samuel!
Fantastic experience: I completed the CDL course at Phoenix Driving Institute in just one month. Was it easy? No. Was it worth it? Absolutely. The instructors are knowledgeable and teach you everything you need to know, but success ultimately depends on your own focus and effort. It’s important to stay disciplined, study the material you're being taught, and not overwhelm yourself with extra information. Listen to your instructors, stay focused, and review the material consistently. With hard work and dedication, you’ll succeed. Daniel was a The Man. He’s knowledgeable, patient, and great at explaining things clearly. He took the time to ensure I understood every aspect of the training, which gave me a lot of confidence. He believed in me even more than I believed in myself, and for that, I am truly grateful. Highly recommend Daniel if you want a skilled and dedicated instructor! "Awesome Instructor for Downshifting!" Paul is an excellent instructor! He taught me how to downshift smoothly in just two sessions. His clear explanations and patient approach made a complicated skill feel much easier to master. I really appreciated how he took the time to make sure I understood and felt confident. Highly recommend Paul for anyone needing help with driving techniques!
Thank you for this awesome review Fernando! We're so proud of the hard work our students put in to complete our program.

Negative experience: PHOENIX Truck Driving School" , I was not given adequate driving time and very little time driving time with this School place should be shut down... refund promised but not received fraud, money theft, broken school system.a part time schedule.there was never any reasonable driving time. And I can see from other reviews that this isn't their first merry go round of cheating people out of education and money. Phoenix Truck Driving Institute!!! The instructors yell at the students. Also, I never got out of the kiddie pool it not part of the teams and is already made complete with Az DMV....BBB... and they wanted me to test for my CDL and never even go the road ones. Scam.
Fantastic experience: Instructors are top notch
Hi Melissa, thanks for the 5-star review and feedback on our instructors!
Negative experience: SCAMMERS Make you sit on bench for 8 hours only to drive the truck for 10mins. Say you need to get your mandatory hours so they can pocket grant money. Lies and games NO mandatory hours called fmsca and two other schools . Waisted a lot of my time. Had to move my collage to summer. Then Payed out of my pocket and tested at different school had my CDL in a week. Do one on one schedule like that! DON'T go here if you don't want to sit around all day, did my one on one at two schools to get me fast tracked. By Glendale airport and i10 an I 17. Ask for one and one only!!! Don't pay cash!! Use credit if need to disbute seen students from other school next to here same deal. Poor service. Hope this helps ,report to AZ work about poor service!! To make better change for all of us

Thank you to Gary for a good classroom setting as well, I enjoyed the journey.

Thank you for your feedback Andy. We will relay this to our team to try and make improvements for the future.
Fantastic experience: It was a great experience Danny, Tim and Dave great instructors
So happy to hear you had a great experience Shimon! Thanks for your feedback!
Fantastic experience: I just graduated (03-29-24) and let me tell you I love the instructors. They remember what you might be struggling with and check up on you and give you space if you need it. Remember communication is key! They will not give up on you. Give this school a try if you want great learning and amazing road stories. Thank you all instructors and students who helped me when I was not sure of my self!!!!!!!! And State tester it's the best he will make sure you're safe to be on the road.
Thank you so much for your feedback and review. We appreciate you sharing your experience. Good luck in this next chapter!
Negative experience: Honestly this school right now has very few instructors. The instructors here are great at what they do but were talking 1 instructor for 30 students. 2 instructors on a good day but if your good at your manuevers you will have 2-3 times driving a truck per day each time being around 1 minute thirty seconds with total time in vehicle less than 4 and a half minutes. Then you wait for the next guy who has more school time but takes 30 minutes to complete a manuever only when the instructor steps in to finish it so the next student can have a "chance" Complete waste of time sitting in the sun while getting very very very little truck experience. Paying them $100 a day part-time student for the instructors to sit in the office the first 45 minutes of class. Spend the extra $$$$ and choose a different school!
Hi Brandon, we're sorry you didn't have a great experience with us. We take our students feedback very seriously and are interested in understanding what went wrong during your experience with us, for us to receive 1 star. Please feel free to reply, email in or give us a call to share information.
Fantastic experience: This review’s a little late, I graduated in December but better late than never. Was on GI Bill, smooth and easy process and the school did most of the work submitting everything for me. I was on weekends 10 hours a day Saturday-Sunday. I really liked it. I was brand new and haven’t even driven a manual car before let alone a truck, so as you can imagine I had a bumpy start and it definitely took me some time to learn. Special shout out to Bill who got me started and Kenny who really put the work in to make sure I can pass, the others were great too but the two instructors I mentioned were amazing with me. The biggest problem I had (most people had) is too many students per instructor, probably drove the truck a total of 2-4 hours out of the 10 hour day, had to apply myself and really make an attempt to learn by watching and listening as well. They definitely put the pressure on in the last week which I was a little upset about at first but looking back I think it’s just what I needed and I have a feeling they knew that. When I took my test, I passed on the first try, I normally suck at testing so let that be a testament to how well they did with me. I now work for a mega carrier making decent money, trying to get the experience to eventually hop on with a high paying company. Thank you PTDI!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us Nathen! We are proud to see you on the road to success.
Fantastic experience: I learned something from every instructor. I took what worked for me and kept an open mind to learn more every single day. And studied at home, in my car, recorded myself and did the per and post-trip inspection 4 or more times a day. Like the future trucks you have to drive yourself... to learn and push yourself to learn and do for yourself. And everyone there saw that and helped me even when I thought I was not ready their confidence in me gave me confidence in myself. And what do you know I now have my CDL-A and all my endorsements.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! We appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for the 5-star review.
Negative experience: Overall the school has very knowledgeable staff but they are VERY short staffed. I’m currently in the school it’s my second week. I go to class 5 days a week full time and collectively I have been in a truck 8 times tops. I have done 3 straight backs , 4 off sets , 1 parallel park. They have 3 instructors during the day with anywhere between 7-18 students, they split one instructor to take students in the road and the other 2 are out in the range. 18 students with two trucks and some students can take 8-10 minutes just to do one off set parking. Sometimes I only get to practice my maneuvers twice day. We will sit around doing pre trip half of the day just to wait for our turn to get in the truck. From what I heard they had many more instructors but they ended up leaving. Why keep bringing in more students when you know you’re short staffed ? I’m paying this school close to $4,700 and I’m not getting enough exposure with the rig. What they should be doing is having all three instructors on the range splitting groups up and having designated days to put students on the road. (I changed my name on google so I wouldn’t get any negative comments while I’m in the school)
Hi there, We appreciate your honest feedback and can understand your frustration with what seems like a lack of exposure to training and equipment. Our instructors do their best to ensure all students get a chance to practice their skills and ultimately be up to par to pass their test(s). When you go to work with your CDL for a company they will also provide in-depth training so you are familiarized with their policies, procedures and their equipment and rigs. We take all feedback very seriously and do our best to incorporate changes when and where possible. We appreciate you sharing this with us.
Fantastic experience: Staffing and Instructors are patient and worked hard to helped me improve my skills. I never gave up. Great motivation for success. Having my CDL has been a game changer in my life. Thank you Phoenix Truck Driving Institute
Hey Monicah, we are glad to hear you had a positive experience with us! We wish you the best in your new career as a CDL driver. Thank you so much for the positive review.
Fantastic experience: This school is awesome. Not Gona lie, at first my attitude was “let’s get my CDL and get the hell out of here.” But it’s really like a home away from home, a second family. Instructors are cool and very helpful, the ladies in the office are the backbone of the school though. There’s a lady there named Kathy and she helped get me enrolled there. She’s freakn AWESOME ! It’s been 3 months since I got my CDL and she, till this day, sends me leads and links setting me up with employers to better my placement in a company. No lie, this school is a class act.. top notch. Set you up for life type of school.
Thank you for the 5 star review Kyle. It was a pleasure having you here. We wish you the best in your new career as a CDL driver!
Fantastic experience: The patient, kind and I listen to the student.
Thanks for sharing your experience Andrew!
Fantastic experience: I had a great experience at Phoenix Truck driving Institute. Everyone was very helpful with anything I needed or questions I had. The instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful in me gaining the skills I needed to be a truck driver. I would recommend this school to anyone who wanted to obtain a career in truck driving.
Thanks for your feedback and the 5-star review!
Negative experience: I'm glad I finished but the experience was the worst! I'm gonna keep it short for anyone looking to come here keep your money and go elsewhere bc they will waste your time! I hate even driving by that hole in a wall of a school! Bad Instructors bad front office. And they're always behind in testing. If your fresh and have no experience please! Go elsewhere to get your CDL!
Fantastic experience: Great place to learn basic truck driving skills and military friendly institution.
Thanks for the 5-star review Jerry!
Fantastic experience: Great place, very good instructors, shout out to all of them. Met some cool people here, I had a fun learning experience. I’m glad they were part of my journey !
We're proud to be part of your journey as well! Thanks for the feedback and 5-star review Andrew!
Fantastic experience: I had a good experience at Phoenix Truck Driving Institute, the instructors and recruiters all want to see you pass, it's like a family and if you want CDL you can get your CDL put in the time and work, I struggled some and they helped me and I'm Grateful Go PTDI !!!
We're so happy you enjoyed your time with us and had such a great experience. Thanks for the positive review Damon!
Fantastic experience: Just got my CDL there every one there was awesome love how they tell you things straight forward if you can't take the truth and chase the goal there gonna be ups and downs to get your CDL in this school it's not for u . (Bri)(tim )(Danny) we're excellent instructor's .. recommend this school so u can be a safe drive on the road for everyone out there
Hi Samuel! We're so happy you had a positive experience with us. We wish you luck in this next chapter!
Negative experience: For anyone wanting to obtain a CDL, look into another establishment. You will sit 3/4 hours out of 9 for 10 minutes or less to get your maneuver in. No one on one training. Testers will rush you through the process. Completed the 160 hour weekend course. Other than that, Thank you Bill, Gary, Russ, Kenny, Shawn for all the time and information to be prepared for the state test. I appreciate all the help. Good luck getting a hold of any one In charge after tuition is paid.

We can also get you in contact with anyone from our corporate office if you need to speak with them. Negative experience: Not the place you want to go for a lot of reasons
Hi Reg, we would like to chat with you to hear more about what has impacted your experience with us what we could do to change your rating.
Negative experience: I obtained my CDL with this school but my problem is there are otr companies not hiring for the school saying that this a rip off because there isn’t enough training and they can’t get a hold of someone to get any information I am so disappointed and wondering why pay money if you can’t get a job and no the job placement doesn’t help either the person is never there and only will send u information for experience of 6 months or more and everyone is resigning getting fired and you wondering what’s going on wish I could get some of my money back but I know that’s not got happen
Hi Zee, we're sorry to hear that you are having trouble finding the right company to work for after graduation. Have you spoken with our job placement department? Job placement assistance is offered to all of our students through our program. They have several companies that they can offer information about that take newly graduated students. Please reach out to our campus to speak with Job Placement Assistance, or please provide us with additional information on how to contact you.
Fantastic experience: I was able to get my CDL in 140 Clock Hours right at 4 weeks because of the AMAZING teachers at this school!! I now have a job where I make $145k+ a year! I would highly recommend this company to help you get your CDL Class A. IF YOU REALLY WANT IT THEN YOU CAN DO IT!
Thank you for your 5-star review and feedback Jeremi! We're so happy to hear of your success. Good luck in your future endeavors!
Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this school. The staff were all top notch, helpful, and professional.
Thanks Robert! We will be sure to pass along this feedback!
Positive experience: I had weekend classes and the staff was very friendly and I felt my instructors really cared about us students that tried our best. With an exception of a couple of rude people who seemed to think we already knew what we were doing. My overall experience was great, I had some fun and laughs. The reason they have 4 stars is because there was not enough drive time because the classes were too large and the lines should be painted for meanuvers. Mr. Bill did the best he could with adjusting rotations and helping people that needed a little more attention so we could move on. I'm sending my brother next and hopefully he will have a great experience as well.
Thank you for your honest feedback La'Vont, we will be sure to share this with our team for future improvements. We are very glad you enjoyed your time with us and wish you luck in this next chapter. Make sure your brother lets us know you sent him our way when he starts!
Negative experience: I’m very experienced with 30 years of driving experience. I had my CDL since 1997. I have driven buses. I drove doubles and triples. I have driven tanks. I have driven equipment with eight axles. The examiner started yelling at me as soon we left the main office to the truck for my driving skill tests. I started doing my pre-trip exam with complete confidence and did the in cab and brake tests at ease. To my utter amazement, the examiner lied and said I did not utter the applied word during the brake test. He said, you did the brake test correct. However, I did not say applied. And consequently, he said, I failed. How could I do the brake test methodically correctly and still fail, -is not something that I could understand. I told the examiner, -the acronym SALE. S= Static, A= Applied, L= low pressure alarm test, and E = Emergency. I told him during the exam, and still he failed me. This is a setup and I was intentionally failed for money grab. I was fooled twice. They tested my driving skills and they have intentionally failed me. I paid each time $350 (per exam). This is a violation of AZDOT - CDL Fact Sheet. I really hope there is someone out there, who could help me with this major psychological and financial abuse. Some of these private examiners are lying and abusing their power. How come someone so rude and so unprofessional and lying about people’s skills could become an examiner? Arizona state should look into these flagrant abuses by these examiners. I really felt discriminated. I also need to admit the second examiner was very humane, professional, and polite. But this reminds me the movie “Bad cop Good cop”.I asked for the exam results. The examiner told me; “I’m not entitled to get the results of my exam”. However, he still failed me. It’s not that I don’t know how to operate Commercial Vehicle, but rather, it’s rectifying the cash cow agenda. Imagine how hard it is for hard working low income people, middle class, and for those young and seniors who need encouragement and financial support. I hope and pray ABC15 (Joe) picks this story and highlights this issue. Indeed, every story has more than two versions. I really believe in free market, however, driver license exams should be left in the hands of centralized institutions like DOT/MVD. This is the greatest country on the universe and things like these should not be happening and it shouldn’t be acceptable. Please note, as one of the Reviewers put it, “If you at all value your time, dignity, and knowledge, go ANYWHERE else”. Nonetheless, they will not get my money third time, I have learned a superb and unforgettable lesson. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Attended in summer of 2020 during covid luckily I had a great instructor for the 8 weeks I was there sadly he quit 1 week before the test, but the knowledge provided had me ready to go. Within a month of graduation I had a class b local job at R+L Carriers for 26 hr and then work my way up to class A at 33.50 an hr. Even though it was a 22:1 student to teacher ratio some of the students who are close to testing are also a big help would recommend for anyone. Maybe I'll come be an instructor there someday, I live 1 mile away thx p.t.i.
We are happy to hear you had a positive experience overall with us Matthew! Hope you're doing well with your CDL!
Negative experience: It’s already been said before in previous one star reviews about this place. They’re all still true no matter what the reply’s have been. But if the picture included on my review doesn’t say enough about the way the school is run you should go somewhere else. The only selling point are the manual truck/ no restrictions on your CDL. The instructors are not the problem with PTDI, it’s the management that’s the issue. There is no communication between any of the chain of command. Tim is the day supervisor and tries to save the company money and sends instructors home if there’s not enough students in the morning. His reason is his boss tells him to, when it’s you that’s his boss and paying for the instruction time. Highly encourage you to seek other schools if you feel you do not have prior experience with semi trucks. You have to push yourself and the school to get you through the program in a timely manner ( push for all your evaluations and tests).
Hi Wesley, we appreciate the feedback. We really do take these reviews seriously and work with the team to improve the program for current and future students. As for the sign, it has been removed. We do provide water bottles to new students in the hopes to reduce the waste of using single use Styrofoam cups for ice instead of coffee. We do hope you are enjoy having a CDL and please feel free to reach back out to us if you’d like any assistance with finding employment as we’re always here to help. Have a great weekend!
Negative experience: If somebody ask to me which CDL school they must choose, I definitely recommend any other CDL school in the valley. Cause honestly they got some good instructors at weekend classes, but some others with a really bad attitude. Those ones forget about we, the students are almost zero percent familiarity with big class A trucks. And they yelled, gesticulating and disrespect at students. Also they don’t have enough amount of instructors, vehicles and room for the high affluence of students. That’s why. In my personal and honest opinion not worth it. But honestly again, I must say that happened about 6 months ago. Hopefully Phoenix Driving Institute has changed.
Hi Guillermo, we're very sorry that you did not have a good experience at our school. We are constantly trying to improve our processes, procedures, and program and your feedback in valuable. We appreciate the honesty and have made some adjustments since you attended the school. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Negative experience: Waste of time! Stay away from this place. You will be coming and siting waiting your turn for hours. We seat here for hours just to be behind the wheel for five minutes. The problem is, there are so money people and just 2 trucks. Prepare waiting long hours!!! Instructors always like to talk how to do it but If you don’t get any practice, you won’t get it. That’s what we do, talk about it all day long. Waste of time!!!
Hi Jake, we are sorry you didn't have a good experience with us. We take student feedback very seriously as we are always looking to improve our program and customer service. We will get this addressed moving forward. Thanks again and we wish you all the luck in your future endeavors.
Fantastic experience: I recently graduated from this schoo! very professional. from the start the office lady kathy explained in full detail all the program has to offer, and the school and training was everything she said it would be! coming to this school was the best decision i made my whole life! i recommend this school to everyone who is interested in their CDL! this school has very high quality teaching!
We are so glad you enjoyed your CDL training with us! Thank you for the recommendation Dan.
Negative experience: They stole $ 1,300.00 This is a FAST PACED SCHOOL. YOU MUST LEARN VERY QUICKLY. Instructors are polite, but most of them are impatient as well. There's a lot if students to push through. If your not a fast learner or don't take crash courses very well, this is NOT for you. I was there 7 days and the charged me 2,500.00. I have thebill right here !
Hi Morriah, we are sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience with us. If you would like to speak with someone from corporate regarding the finances please send an email to either (or both) [email protected] or [email protected].
Negative experience: Pros. OFFICE STAFF IS NICE. Knowledgbale about getting you test ready. Plenty of recruiters coming in to recruit. Manual endorsement. Cons. 1. INSTRUCTORS YELL AND SCREAM AT YOU FOR BEING NEW, LEARNING HOW TO DRIVE AND ASKING QUESTIONS (PAUL, PAUL, PAUL) They will blame the screaming due to the loud trucks. BS. He is lucky I passed. You dont give people 5k of your money to allow them to talk to you any kind of way. 2. They were behind and caused me to wait an extra week to so instead of 4 weeks took 5 weeks. 3. Caused less reps in the truck to practice manuvers. This is why they get 2 STARS!!!
Hi Dean, we're sorry you didn't have a good experience with us. We take student feedback very seriously as we are always looking to improve our program and customer service. We will get this addressed moving forward. Thanks again and we wish you all the luck in your future endeavors.
Positive experience: thank you Bill ...D.....Danny rock on bro lol.....Shawn......Matt god bless Rambo
Thank you for the positive comment Manuel! We hope you enjoy your new career as a CDL driver.
Fantastic experience: I would like thank all staff at this school. Tim was the guy who tested me first, and even though I failed because of hitting a curb. But he still did his job right and was fair. When I came back to take my drive test Danny made me feel at ease and I passed. Thanks to everyone.
Thank you for the recommendation Gregory. It was a pleasure having you here. We wish you the best in your new career as a CDL driver!
Fantastic experience: I had a great time the instructor's are great the other students felt like family I would definitely recommend if you are getting your CDL A license I can't thank them enough for helping me achieve my dream
We are so glad you enjoyed your CDL training with us! Thank you for the recommendation Chris.
Positive experience: I was very happy with the overall experience. Kathy Wilson that works in the office is wonderful. She does a fantastic job. The instructors are pretty good. My biggest complaint and I'm not the only person that has said this. Is some nights they have too many students and not enough time in the truck. But I believe this is something that goes on at all the schools. But I would recommend them for one important reason. If you're considering going to truck driving school. Make sure you get your manual transmission endorsement. Don't go on the assumption that all new trucks are automatic transmissions. Because they're not. And if you decide to work locally you may be driving a manual transmission. And if you don't get your endorsement you can't get a job
Hey John thanks for your feedback! We will definitely take what you said into consideration.
Fantastic experience: Staff are caring and help students to the best of their ability. Instructors are truly dedicated to helping the students succeed despite lack of pay, these Instructors need to be paid much more for the amount of work, stress and challenges that they tackle on. Couldn't have passed without their unlimited amount of support. Thank you PTDI
We are so glad you enjoyed your CDL training with us! Thank you for the recommendation Trujillo.
Fantastic experience: My instructors were Bri, George, Anne, Brian, Cody, Larry, Hadar, and my tester was Mike. I really enjoyed my time here. Every instructor really took the time to make sure you fully grasped what they were teaching by breaking it down step by step and walking you through them. This school was so amazing and I appreciate everyone who works there. Thank you PTDI!
Ryann, thank you for the review and your kind words! It was a pleasure having you and we wish you the best in your new career as a CDL driver!
Fantastic experience: I was enrolled at this school in night classes and I recently graduated. I couldn't have done it without the instructors help and knowledge that they shared with their students. Especially Mike and Bri and Brian and Larry - they were wonderful! I highly recommend this school during the night classes.
Hey Frank, thanks so much for the recommendation. We hope your CDL is treating you well!
Fantastic experience: I love it there, good staff and best school ever

Thank you for the positive comment Jessica! We hope you enjoy your new career as a CDL driver.
Fantastic experience: Personally, I had a good experience and the school has an open schedule. You can go full time or part time. I got my class A license and a certificate at the end of the program.
We are so glad you enjoyed your CDL training with us! Thank you for the recommendation Eddie.
Fantastic experience: I had a great experience at this school as a full time (4 week) student which I was also able to use my GI Bill whereas all of the other schools in the valley I was not able to and the other schools charged more too. The instructors were beyond knowledgable and great to work with all the way to the staff in the office.
Thank you for the positive comment Skylar! We hope you enjoy your new career as a CDL driver.
Fantastic experience: Passed my state test on the first try, thanks to Bre and Brian! My instructors was sooo helpful. I was fortunate to get them as my instructors. They are very professional and understanding. Brian helped me understand the common mistakes, rules etiquettes and was very reasonable. I really liked how Bre maintained her composure throughout training and continued to be patient wit me. Couldn’t have done it without y’all!!! ❤️
Thank you for the positive comment Kayla! We hope you enjoy your new career as a CDL driver.
Fantastic experience: Your CDL education is what you make of it. Phx TD Institute presents you with EVERY tool necessary to work in whatever line of trucking you choose to pursue. Highly recommended!!
Thank you for your honest feedback William. We hope you are enjoying your new career as a CDL driver!
Positive experience: I went to this school before it was across from the Werner Terminal, which in my opinion was better because you could get hired to other companies other than Werner i do not know if you still can But when i was there the school was really easy
We are so glad you enjoyed your CDL training with us! Thank you for the recommendation Caleb.
Fantastic experience: Verry friendly staff, I made so many connections here :) it's good to be surrounded by so many unique individuals with the same mindset and goals. The instructors are amazing (bree and gorge...Cody too!! when he's on range that is). Well just wanted to leave my review here incase anyone was thinking about getting courses here (do it) soo...RANGE RANGE CLASSROOM CLASSROOM.
Thank you for the recommendation. It was a pleasure having you here. We wish you the best in your new career as a CDL driver!
Fantastic experience: Love this school. The instructors were excellent and really cared about the students success. I recently do not have my CDL I wish I could get it back. But unfortunately the doctor disqualified me and told me that I have diabetes and I tried to go back to the same doctor and he told me that he wasn't going to do my physical again. That doctor sucks and now I can never get my CDL back because of it. And I went to my real doctor and he found no traces of diabetes. But when I had my license I had a great time driving. Just wanted to give my feedback.
We are so glad you enjoyed your CDL training with us! Thank you for the recommendation Travis.
Positive experience: Phoenix Truck Driving Institute was a good choice for me to obtain my CDL. The instructors were knowledgeable, patient and understanding with their teaching techniques with newcomers, in the classroom and on the range. Get those yellow lines looking bright again though, that would help a lot with the backing maneuvers.
Thank you for the recommendation Jaime. It was a pleasure having you here. We wish you the best in your new career as a CDL driver!
Fantastic experience: Phoenix truck driving school was the best choice I made for getting my CDL. The instructors were so helpful in providing me all the information I needed for successfully getting my CDL. From the classroom to the range, all the instructors go above and beyond to make sure you get full experience and understanding on how to get your cdl. I highly recommend Phoenix truck driving institute.
Thank you for the positive comment German! We hope you enjoy your new career as a CDL driver.
