Fantastic experience: The owner was very accommodating to me and my son. My son could not find his paperwork. The owner was able to locate the paperwork, not once but twice, for us. As, I could see someone else could be frustrated, referring to any business owner. The owner at Old School, worked with me and my son, until the final driving test. If you’re looking for a great driving school. This is the place. Whether you’re in Rio Rancho or Albuquerque. The owner was extremely kind and understanding, most importantly, a tremendous instructor.

Negative experience: This review comes long after my daughter “completed” her course here, at the Sara location, but now I have my second child in a driver’s ed class at another place and the differences are so startling that I had to write a review. At 15, I put my 15 yr old in classes here and it was awful. The class was far too fast paced, often ending early, she got maybe 2-3 hours of behind the wheel time with them and one of the instructors who took her out the second and last time, was absolutely horrific. He scolded her about needing to keep her elbows on the door armrest, took away her rear view mirror and kept nitpicking her about things that are really personal preference, not actual driving necessities. She was physically uncomfortable trying to keep the positions he said she needed to keep, was mentally stressed because she was supposed to pretend that the rear view mirror didn’t exist for her and just overall not getting what she should have out of the class. After that, they never seemed to have available time for her to schedule her remaining driving time and just pushed her through the final exam portion to get her certificate of completion. I found out later that shortly after my daughter “finished” (I use the term loosely), the school had their license or what it suspended for a period of time due to many other complaints and issues. Hopefully they’ve corrected everything now, but for us, It was a huge waste of money. I now have my second child in New Mexico Academy of Driving and it’s day one and night and day differences. My daughter came home telling me all the things they covered, the structure of the course and it seems clear they’re actually interested in preparing my kid for driving and learning what she needs to learn PRIOR to putting her on the road. If I could recoup what I paid Old School, I would because what they provided my daughter was NOT any kind of education or preparation for driving.

Fantastic experience: It really helped my son at the driving school when he was really inexperienced and just wanted to get his provisional, he’s not more confident and comfortable in driving and is taking me places now too. It’s wonderful and I’m very proud of him and glad they could support my son and make him more confident

Fantastic experience: I used to be really anxious and scared of driving due to being unsure of every move I make on the road. my dad helped me get started with private lessons here and I was really scared at first. I started driving with Francisco and he was straightforward and it honestly helped me know exactly what to do on the roads. it helped me overcome by being patient and straightforward and if I made a mistake he had me fix it which I’m thankful for. I also worked with Mr. Chavez and he was also very patient and straightforward as well and helped me overcome the freeway. they also didn’t have a problem with scheduling my classes like other places do. I now have my driver’s license and I don’t feel anxious as much at all and they both helped me overcome my fear of driving by being, patient, understanding, funny, and overall very supportive and helpful. I recommend this driving school if you have a fear of driving like I did. It’s good for all ages and straight forward and overall a really great experience and helped me overcome for fear of the roads and they were incredibly supportive.

Fantastic experience: I turned 18 this year and was very nervous to drive, so my parents guided me to get private on the road lessons from here. Overall, I feel more comfortable behind the wheel and Francisco Saenz was a helpful teacher. Sure I still need work on driving, but this feels like it was a step in the right direction.

Fantastic experience: I turned 19 this year and I struggled to find a course that took ages over 18. I called the MVD multiple times and was told something different each call. I also couldn’t find a place that did private lessons. Old School Driving made it easy to sign up, get started, and get my full license within three weeks. All the instructors were nice and gave clear instructions and information that will help you long term with driving.

Negative experience: Unfortunately one of the worst schools out there!!! My daughter went here, she got no credit for anything plus her learner's permit turned out to be worthless. She has to redo tests to get official driver's license because her driving instructor got in trouble/ lost his license!! Her credit for the test she took at this school disappeared, how in the heck!? Waist of money and time!!! So sad about this situation!!!

Negative experience: So I have really bad generalized anxiety and the whole reason I wanted to hire a driving instructor as opposed to just taking any driving class or getting taught by a family member was to have a person to teach me who was specialized in teaching, so patient and understanding of their students needs. I was taught the driving basics and all of the driving skills and tactics you need to become/be a good driver on the road but when I went to the school I honestly was expecting more from the reviews and from the pricing’s listed. On first lesson I was yelled at for making simple mistake for being completely new to driving which I was, and one lesson he showed up 30 minutes late and I only had 15-20 minutes instead of the hour that was paid for. The instructor is really nice and friendly and well-informed in his job but honestly if you have a kid who is really nervous about driving or scared to start driving, I would recommend another school or just teaching them yourselves.

Old School of Driving in Rio Rancho

I apologize for your negative experience with your previous driving instructor. As your instructor, my priority is to create a safe and supportive learning environment for you, especially since you have generalized anxiety. Yelling and showing up late is unprofessional and unacceptable. I will provide constructive feedback and guidance in a calm and respectful manner, and always arrive on time for our lessons. Let me know if you have any specific concerns or needs.I would like know who the student is and which old school of driving location you attended because there is a lot of mixups between the schools!

Negative experience: Old School of Driving in Rio Rancho was a terrible experience. I understand that they were shut down for a few months by the dept of transportation, but unless they made some MAJOR changes, do NOT take your children here!

Fantastic experience: I've never had anyone with time to teach me to drive. Time, skill, patience.. before coming here I was under the impression I was going to go far into my adult years not knowing how to drive. When I was able to come here, I was terrified of the road, and admittedly my first session was rough only because of how frightened I was. They were able to catch that I was freaked out and panicking, and did what they could to calm me down. They worked me past my fears day by day. Every day after, just one hour sessions at a time, I got much more comfortable. In less than a full week of hour sessions, I drove on highways, through intersections, and eventually freeways which I feared the most. At that point the reality that I CAN drive set in, and I have not a single regret coming here. Truly a great experience, and I'm thankful for all I've learned.

Fantastic experience: I see alot of negative reviews here and don't fully understand why so I'd like to share my experience. I've had five sessions behind the wheel and gone through the class here and honestly I couldn't be more happy with my decision in where to learn to drive. I came into this not knowing anything and less than a month later Francisco had me on I-40 driving comfortably and confidently. The class is a little fast paced and can be intimidating at first but over all I have had a very good experience with old school of drining in Rio Rancho between getting my learners permit 3 days into the course and being confident in my ability to drive safely less then a month in. I have two sessions left with francisco and look forward to them after i get some more experience with my family.

Negative experience: Dealing with Old School of Driving has been nothing short of a nightmare. My daughter needed behind the wheel instruction as she had already done the in class portion at school. We called Old School for months before getting through where I made an appointment at 11 am to meet the owner at the Coors location to sign them up for courses. We didn’t realize this business had been suspended for 6 months for aggressive and inappropriate behavior towards students and parents from the owner Francisco. We waited for over an hour being told he was coming from Rio Rancho and was behind an accident. Funny thing is we came from RR and had no issues getting there on time. Against my better judgment, we still signed my child up for 7 instructed hours of behind the wheel driving. First lesson the instructor was late, second time they didn’t show at all because of scheduling issues. You have to call and make the appointment every time. When the owner answers he answers like he’s irritated someone is calling and doesn’t identify the number as a business. Its very off putting. Every time I or my child called we were told someone (Mikayla) would call back to schedule shortly but we never received a call back so we would have to call again and again. On this last session my child and I had been calling Francisco for a week and a half to schedule. Fransisco claimed to not know who I talked to the previous phone calls even though it’s him who answers and was rude and nasty then hung up on me because I was not happy that we kept being blown off. My child tried calling and was also met with a rude answer and then immediately hung up on. My father paid for and helped sign up my child for lessons so I asked him to call. Francisco was immediately abrasive called my elderly father a “dumb f*ck” then hung up on him as well. It seems Francisco thinks because he’s a “loud military man” that he can treat people like trash. Clearly the anger management classes he was required to take to get his business back didn’t do anything. I gave it some time before writing this review to see if Fransisco would be calling to apologize for his behavior mainly towards my father but that didn’t happen. The instructor himself did a good job, but that’s not worth having to deal with Fransisco and the inefficient way this place is run. I do not recommend Old School at all and will be going somewhere else for my other child in next year.

Hello Mrs. Brook. You are confusing locations we are located on Sara rd and you are trying to locate the opposite drivers Ed. This is two different owners and your commenting on the driving school in Rio Rancho and we have not had classes in six months. Sorry for the inconvenience, you left a review on a different location.

Negative experience: The owner Francisco is abusive to his students. I have an audio recording where he called my son a queer. He has been shut down by the New Mexico department of transportation. Do not put your child through the unnecessary stress and abuse of this man and his company.

Fantastic experience: Before enrolling my daughter in Old School Driving School she had no prior experience behind the wheel let's be honest teaching our teens how to drive in Albuquerque is no joke! So I was nervous, Francisco reassured me that she would be fine, and she was The classes she took online were filled with tons of important information. That gave me the confidence that she was learning the skills she needed to be a good driver. When it was time for her to drive with her instructor she had the opportunity to drive with Francisco and another instructor. Both were patient with her. I am so thankful. Francisco and his team focused on different areas of driving. She learned how to turn, switch lanes, drive in traffic also in residential areas at the proper speed by the end of her driving hours she was on the freeway. From not ever being behind the wheel to where my daughter is at now as far at knowledge and driving skills I am blown away! Thank you Old School Driving I will be signing up my son next year!

Negative experience: BEWARE!!!!!! OLD SCHOOL DRIVING IN RIO RANCHO IS SCAMMING PEOPLE!!! My son started this program in November and got his permit, he just completed his six months of driving. He went back to Old School where Francisco gave him a "certificate of completion" and charged us $50.00 dollars for this. We went to MVD today 6/23/22 and find out that his business is suspended FROM 4/1/22 TO OCTOBER '22. OLD SCHOOL is not SUPPOSED TO BE IN BUISNESS. THE STATE OF NM HAS BLOCKED HIM. ANYONE THAT GOES TO THE MVD WILL BE REJECTED IF THEY COME FROM OLD SCHOOL DRIVING. ON TOP OF THIS INFORMATION, he did not put the completion date on the certificate and told my son that the MVD will do that and he took my son's permit. I asked my son why did he take your permit and he said he didn't know he just gave it to him because he trusted the man (Francisco the owner). He didn't fill out the completion date because he knows he was scamming us. So now we can't get his provisional we are out 400+ dollars that was paid and I had to purchase another permit $45. Now, I have to find another driving school to complete the provisional portion AGAIN WHICH IS $55 DOLLARS/HOUR FOR 7 HOURS! He wasn't even supposed to charge my son for the certificate. He is taking money from people and providing bogus services. He probably is selling the permits to people and doing identity theft. I am going to report him to the BBB, State and KOAT and all social media. I will also make a case against him for possible identity theft. If you or someone you know is currently taking/taken a class from Old School Driving please reach out to me.

Negative experience: Don't waste your money here. The teacher were totally impatience, he dont know how to teach and when I asked him to return my money, he charged me huge amount for one ( first day trial). I would never recommend this institute.

Negative experience: I went to old school driving years ago and man has it gone downhill. Francisco the instructor had his license suspended and won’t refund us our money and our son has only completed half the course . This business is unethical and super unprofessional.

Fantastic experience: I can’t begin to express how thrilled and happy I am with this driving school, but I’ll try! I’m a single mom and I have two teenage sons ages 17 &18 who needed to go through driving school to get their licenses. We moved here from Colorado and it was too late to go through their high school. Francisco worked with me every step of the way with getting my boys through this process! They were flexible enough to work around my busy work schedule. My boys feel so confident as new drivers! I am so appreciative of Old School of Driving!!!

Fantastic experience: I took this course years ago and I’ve never been in a accident because Francisco is a very good teacher. My brother took Francisco’s course and he’s never been in a accident. This newer generation of drivers are soft, so what he takes a phone call of two while your precious drain on society takes the driving course( @K G). Francisco is a real one and he will always be.

Fantastic experience: Both my daughter and I enrolled in the Old School of driving for “ behind the wheel “ lessons, to get familiar with driving in New Mexico. We found the school / instructors to be very professional , organized and skilled. They were very considerate too,in accommodating our odd hours and took a personal interest in getting us familiar with our route to work and back, also suggesting best alternative routes if needed. I would recommend the old school of driving and Mr. Francesco for expert coaching. I thank him for giving us the confidence to drive .

Cassiana Sandoval 6 years ago

Negative experience: Honestly if you need to learn to drive I literally suggest you go ANYWHERE else. Francisco is rude, impatient, and unprofessional. The only reason they have 4.8 stars is because he bribed students to write good reviews. If you look through reviews most of the reviews that aren’t made by his students are 1 star. I finished the class and was supposed to do my drive times with him but after hearing other people’s experiences with him I decided to pay more to go elsewhere to drive. I am an adult, and I am someone who trains other people for a living. As someone who is payed to teach people I can ASSURE you this he is NOT a good teacher. Most of his teaching was reading directly from a powerpoint in a monotone voice, then giving students like 49 minutes to do a worksheet that took ten minutes which he didn’t even grade. When I asked questions I felt like I was just bothering him. Driving is something that is crucial to learn properly and you’re already spending a lot of money on the class so honestly save yourself a lot of stress and pain and go literally ANYWHERE ELSE. If you don’t wanna take my word for it go look at their Better Business Bureau rating. :)

Fantastic experience: I started Old school driving with little to no experience whatsoever. When I first got behind the wheels with Francisco I struggled a lot and needed a lot of help. I was under a lot of stress behind the wheel and was worried I wasnt going to be able to drive. However, with more time driving and learning behind the wheel I began to get better and better. Francisco motivated me and helped me learn to remain calm behind the wheel. I wouldnt have learned anything about driving without his help. He may be a strict teacher but he is definitely a great teacher, I wont forget Old school driving and the lessons Francisco taught me. Thank you!

Negative experience: I just learned from my kid that he told all his students to come to this site and leave a good rating if they wanted to pass. This guy doesn't communicate with the parents on next steps of action. He asked my child why I hadn't let her drive a day after she barley drove with him, she said no and he asked "Why not?!"That's what I'm paying $310 for is for these people to teach my child how to drive. I'm no means a driving instructor. I do realize I will have to have my child drive in the car with me at some point to get her more practice and her hours so she gets a full license. I got a bad vibe the first day I brought her to class. I'm not confident she is ready to drive and I wasted money that I could have spent on a professional driver's ed for her. She said that the instructor made a kid cry in the car as well. FYI for any parents wanting to bring their child here to learn to drive, go elsewhere. All the good reviews on here are from instructions from the teacher to make the kids leave good reviews or they won't pass driving school.

Negative experience: * Update as of 4/10/22 - Francisco has been suspended from teaching for 6 months due to numerous complaints. Full details in Albuquerque Journal article. Run away from this place. Signed my son up for 7 hours of driving, and pulled him out after 3. He told me Francisco would get angry with him when he asked questions. He also took phone calls while teaching my son. I asked him about this, and he said sometimes students call during a lesson and he would ask my son to pull over for a few minutes. What?!! I’m not paying for the teacher to take phone calls during a private lesson. I saw another reviewer had the same experience. When I told him my son didn’t feel comfortable with him, he told me other schools don’t offer actual driving time with their students, and it was my choice if I wanted to pull my son out. I told him that wasn’t true, and I had already found another school. My son said Francisco was short tempered and had an abrasive personality. He also said Francisco had another student drive my son home, and said something to the effect of “watch how he drives, he’s been driving for 2 days like you”. What a way to make my son feel bad about driving. When I asked for the manager’s number, Francisco said he couldn’t give it to me because he doesn’t handle conflicts. What kind of manager doesn’t handle conflicts?! I was finally refunded for the unused time, after a very frustrating experience. Never again. Many of these positive reviews have to be fake. I noticed a lot are signed with the poster’s name, after the comment. Weird coincidence. ***UPDATE: Enrolled my son with Coach Al's for the 7 hour private lessons, the day I left this review. Coach Al's is AMAZING and deserving of their legitimate 5 star reviews. My son is now a licensed driver and thanks to his instructor, feels confident on the road. I wish I never wasted money and 3 hours of my son's time at Old School of Driving. He didn't learn anything from them.

Negative experience: Worst mannered guy I have ever met or layed eyes on. Very rude, very disrespectful, very unprofessional. Too prideful to be considered anything close to a mentor. Little to no communication with parents about plans of actions. If asked any questions by adults, immediately takes offense. Would not recommend this specific location to anyone unless you'd like to enter a nightmare of stress. Greedy when it comes to packing in the classroom. Telling kids to leave reviews, as a false pretense to get their Google/Yelp ratings up and hide all negative comments against them. If you happen to have a problem and try to call another location, you will be met with a nepotistic attitude. Also, by no means backed by the BBB.

Fantastic experience: the class was very short and didn’t impact my schedule at all witch was a big plus for me the teacher gave us halloween off witch was very nice of him while driving with him i found it very helpful that he pointed out what i needed to work on so i know what i had to get better at

Margo Petersen 6 years ago

Positive experience: Good instructor who made it easy to learn the material. The class is short (3 weeks for me) so it didn't impact my schedule too much. The breaks were nice. The instructor is very flexible and willing to work with students on scheduling (for example, most of my class didn't want to come on Halloween so he gave us the day off). There is plenty of one on one driving time, which is very helpful in becoming more confident. The only problem I had is that my first time driving with the instructor he pointed out all the mistakes I was making, which shook my confidence as I had almost no experience. The next session, however, was much better. I definitely recommend driving with someone you are comfortable with first to gain confidence. Otherwise, this was a very helpful course and I would recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Went thru their class back in 2003 and still remember some of the lessons. They produce safe drivers thru proper education that will stay with you a lifetime.

Negative experience: I had one more day to be in the class and I would’ve been done but it was so bad that I stopped going because he didn’t have any patience and would yell. I don’t recommend this place to anyone! If you’re looking for someone with patience I recommend Coach Al I don’t recommend Francisco he is very rude and I’m glad I didn’t continue with this class.
