Mountain States Driver's Education, Inc.: Reviews
Negative experience: This is a terrible place to take your driving test. Terrible with kids and the good driver bad driver stuff is not something you should be saying. Shameful behavior!
I’m sorry your daughter didn’t pass her driving test. Please fix the skills discussed in the debrief and come back and retest. It has been my experience that everyone who wants a license gets one. Please study the Colorado Driver’s Handbook. These are the skills you need to demonstrate for the driving test.
Fantastic experience: Excellent attention, kindness and respect. I felt very calm and comfortable. I really appreciate that they have people who speak Spanish
Fantastic experience: Maria was great giving the instructions and advice about driving.
Fantastic experience: Mike did an awesome job, very professional and gave me good pointers after the test.
Fantastic experience: Mike was a great instructor! Everything was so easy. Great experience overall.
Fantastic experience: Our daughter had an amazing experience here. From instruction to her driving test everyone was kind and helpful. Mike and Laurel were especially great!
Fantastic experience: Great place to learn! Instructors Chris and Laurel were always very kind, knowledgeable, and informative. I learned a lot and it was a pleasure using Mountain States for BTW training and the road test!
Fantastic experience: I had a very pleasant driving test with Maria. I was completely impressed with her professionalism and positiveness. I highly recommend Maria and of course Mountain states Driver’s Ed.
Negative experience: Contrary to what the passive aggressive reply to this review is trying to insinuate I haven't failed my driver's test. In fact I've been a licensed driver for the last 10 years. My issue with this place isn't whether or not I passed a test (which if you take a look at how they respond to reviews seems to be their main way of writing off any valid criticism in an extremely childish manner) but rather how the testers conduct themselves. Someone I know took a test here and not only was the tester extremely rude and condescending but was also completely unconstructive. If you want a positive learning experience where you are treated like a person and given constructive advice instead of just being told to read the handbook then this is not the place to go. If instead you want to be belittled and talked down to then this is the perfect place for you. It would make for an overall better experience if that specific employee removed the stick before heading into work. The owner might want to consider doing so as well. *Also for the record I have only deleted my initial review for this establishment because at the time I figured it wasn't worth it to keep the review up. I have had a change of heart since then and feel they need to be call out for the immature way they handle criticism and the boarish manners of the people they hire. There are much better options for driving schools that will not waste your money and time.
It is not possible to respond to this person as they simply delete what they wrote, post a different review, and then hope we don't respond. Deleting your review and reposting it is not going to help you get a license. Please consider studying the Colorado Driver’s Handbook, practice the skills in the book, fix the issues the instructor told you about, then come back and retest. We want you to pass, but you are not safe the way you are driving now. Thank you to all the customers that put in the time and effort to study for the drive test. When you take the test seriously, passing gets much easier.
Fantastic experience: Mike was a great driver instructor and I learned a lot through him!
Fantastic experience: LAUREL WAS GREAT! She is so so kind! I would 100% recommend her for any tests or driving lessons! Mike was a great instructor. I had my mountain driving today with him. He is a great instructor and very kind! I would definitely recommend this location and instructor.
Fantastic experience: Excellent driving class in Spanish, very good treatment from Maria, highly recommended to take the exam.
Fantastic experience: Took a 2 hrs in car lesson, very detailed teaching. Let me notice that there are so many things need to be aware of during driving. Obtain objective suggestions. Pass the test on the second day.
Fantastic experience: I want to say thank you for my teacher Mike. He taught me how to drive today. He is very patience, professional and good at teaching people how to drive. I probably will come back again do another classes. Thanks really appreciate it.
Negative experience: Will take your money and not tell you that they are booked weeks out and you may not even get a lesson before your child has to take a test. They are a churn and burn company that has nobody answering the phones, no customer service, and literally steal your money but causing so much hassle to schedule and book apointments that they never have on the books. Stay away and go elsehwere, they are busy only because there are not many other choices. Response: nobody chose not to show up, your lack of people on the phones could not confirm what the location was. You guys run a shoestring budget so you can get all the profit you can and rule with an iron fist. If you guys cannot staff your offices to help people and have customer service you should shut down. Before you attack all your ex customers that had an issue, try apoligizing instead of acting so arrogant all the time.
I am sorry you chose not to show up to you scheduled appointment. We do our best to wait as long as we can, but simply couldn't wait any longer for you to show up. With regard to scheduling, we offer both online and phone scheduling. We have 5 staff answering phones and we are open 7 days per week. Please use our online services in this schedule is not convenient for you. Lastly, we have been servicing this community for 24 years. I grew up in Fort Collins, my family and friends live in northern Colorado, and we are not "churning or burning" anyone. Thank you for choosing the company with the best cars, best instructors, and best curriculum in the area. Please check it out for yourself and decide.
Negative experience: The worst customer service I have experienced in a minute. I needed to change an appointment. I called and left a message but my call was never returned. When I call back I was told that I wasn't eligible to move my appointment because it wasn't a whole 24 hours beforehand (My earlier message had been, but they " had no record of my call" even though my cell phone did, lol. ) The lady that answered the phone automatically assumed I was trying to cancel - not move - my appointment and started freaking out that I wasn't going to get any sort of reimbursement. She genuinely flew off the handle just because I was trying to change an appointment. Lost my 80 bucks but at least I didn't ever have to meet that woman face to face. EDIT: You obviously didn't even read my review. I did call within 24 hours to change - not cancel - my appointment. I was harangued and verbally assaulted and accused of lying - Even though my cell phone shows proof of calling prior to a full 24 hours before. Nothing in your response addresses the outrageously poor customer service I was given by your employee. I'm perfectly fine with your restrictions on cancellations. That was never an issue. The outrageously rude behavior of your employee was the issue and your lack of response tells me all I need to know. I would be surprised if you were in business another 2 years let alone another 25 customer service like this.
I am sorry you didn't make it to your driving test. Our cancellation policies are explained at registration and must be agreed to in order to register. Please consider making sure your schedule is set when you register and pay for your appointment. If it changes, please give us 24 hours notice. We simply can't fill appointments when a customer gives us little or no notice. Thank you for understanding. I appreciate the community support as we enter our 25th year of business.
Fantastic experience: Absolute amazing place it is a great place to learn to drive and I 100% recommend it
Negative experience: Traducir texto con la cámara Their goal is to fail everyone who takes the test in order to sell them a package of driving lessons or pay for the test again. The instructor is racist. Don't waste your time on this site.
I’m sorry you failed your driving test. Since I am the one that administered the test, let me remind you of what happened. You didn’t know what the different color of traffic lights meant, you didn’t know which lane to turn from, and you couldn’t figure out where to drive the car if there were no painted lines on the road. I feel confident that if you studied and practiced you could pass a test.
Fantastic experience: This place is the best! I now have had all four of my kiddos go through it over the years, and I can’t speak highly enough! The owner and his staff really care about the kids and their safety! Highly recommend!
Positive experience: I learned a lot in this class, however it was drawn out longer than necessary and the driving instructor added unnecessary details and comments throughout each class and is not very engaging
Thank you for your review. Please note that we are required to follow a curriculum for the class that is determined by the state of Colorado, and the class must meet a certain number of hours. Each of the 'unnecessary details' is on the topic of driving, and may be relevant to some of the other 40 people learning in the same classroom. We hope that you will take away the information necessary to become good driver.
Positive experience: It’s very Taki Taki but still I felt like I learned something a lot of driving is common sense and this just taught a lot of the little stuff
Fantastic experience: Great class, very informative, and in my opinion, the instructor is well versed in the laws as he was formerly in law enforcement. I also enjoyed the short videos to get us introduced to certain subjects, which are not only informative and interesting at times, but also provide a nice break from a long but important class. The location I am currently learning at is the Fort Collins location.
Fantastic experience: This Drivers Education place is amazing. The teachers do a really good job of teaching all of the information and not make it completely boring somehow lol. This place is definitely worth doing your drivers Ed course here.
Fantastic experience: I take the class in Fort Collins, and the place is very nice; The teachers are friendly and nice people to be around. I recommend using Mountain States Driver's Education to learn how to drive.
Negative experience: There's no way that our next kid will use Mountain State. They repeatedly gave us misinformation about how to complete the whole process. They made everything difficult. My kid got both their permit and license much later than they needed to because of them. I only gave it 2 stars because it sounded like the instructors were OK.
I’m sorry you didn’t know you had to take a driving test to get a license. This has been a requirement since the 1930’s in the State of Colorado. We do offer this service, but at this time are running about a week behind. I wish we could have accommodated you when you walked-in, but the schedule was full.
Fantastic experience: Great class and teachers. The material is easy to understand and you lean a lot from taking a course here.
Fantastic experience: Instructor Maria helped me learn to drive a standard transmission. She was understanding with my mistakes and provided good feedback. After just 4 hours of instruction, I feel confident in driving a manual. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: BTW training is really great! My instructor, Laurel, taught me so much in only 2 hours. I started having no experience driving. At the end of two hours, I was comfortable in neighborhoods and even went on “big roads” for a bit. I feel so much more confident! Laurel was very patient, but also pushed me so that I could learn. I had a really great experience!!
Fantastic experience: Working with the Mountain States Driver's Education, Inc. was wonderful. I have a child with special needs, who we thought would never drive. Getting our child to take the driving school in person was impossible. MSDE understood and set me up with the online courses. Failing to get it done we were able to put the class on pause while our child reassigned his desire to keep going. We finally made it and were able to get his permit and put in 150 hours of driving with an adult. He truly needed need to have 6 hours with an MSDE staff, but felt it was best for him to see how to interact with someone other than his parents. Maria is diverse in working with special needs children, Spanish-speaking drivers, and those who just need confidence. What can I say? She is amazing. Our child felt comfortable with her and showed her how good of a driver he wanted to be. Maria asked why is he there. Understanding children (TEENS) with disabilities is more important than most realize. They are judged regularly for their indifferences and challenges. Maria made him feel confident and supported. Which is what he needed to be a good driver. Although he didn't really need any more training, Maria was able to teach him how to drive a stick shift, which was also important for a kid who wants to be an over-the-road truck driver. This gave him even more confidence in his driving ability. It takes a special person to get a kid like mine to trust them. She had it from the moment he met with her. Thank you Maria and we hope you will give him his driving test when it is time. This school was accommodating and much appreciated.
Negative experience: Had a terrible experience with my tester and was told I didn’t study the rules of the road properly, he ended up failing me but the real kicker is I passed the test with flying colors only a few days later at a different driving school. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.
Fantastic experience: A few days ago I took a driving test preparation class because I was scared to drive here. The instructor Maria Thomas is excellent and thanks to her I passed my exam on the first try. I took my class in Spanish because it’s my native language and I don't have enough words to express how happy I feel.
Negative experience: It’s very boring the instructor talks a lot and I don’t understand why we need eight hours to learn about driving when most of it in my opinion is common sense. But I did learn about the signs and important stuff like that.
Positive experience: I definitely think that the four day class definitely could have been shortened down. However, I understand that Colorado has laws to create a minimum time needed for a student to attend these classes. I believe that this class was definitely informative. I learned a few new things and solidified my knowledge on other topics by taking this class.
Positive experience: The class was really helpful, the days were really long but we got occasional breaks so it was fine. I think the learning methods could have been more interesting or fun than just being lectured because most of the time I was barely even taking in anything the instructor was saying. But the reviews and tests were direct and straightforward and in the end I learned a lot.
Positive experience: this class was very informative and i feel like i know lots more about driving and feel confident, although sometimes the instructor gets off topic about politics and movies but overall it was good experience
Fantastic experience: I came to this class expecting a very boring 4 days and a waste of time. I can now say that my experience was not that at all. I genuinely enjoyed the classes I attended. I learned a whole lot about driving and the particular rules in Colorado. But it did not stop at that. My instructor, Kindel Daniels, made sure to put a big and important emphasis on DUI's and drug abuse. He told us many times to be careful with our use of drugs and alcohol, and could use himself as an example of how it can be very good for us to not make habits at a young age. He himself rarely drinks. Kindel also took us outside today, and showed us the whole process of changing a tire, changing the oil, window washer fluid, radiator fluid, and cleaning the air filter. This knowledge was very valuable for me to have in case of future problems while driving. Kindel presented himself well and set his strict rules from the very beginning of the class. We knew exactly what was expected of us from the very start. I personally found this to be very helpful and I knew I would have respect for Kindel right away. Kindel was a very good instructor. These classes were not boring and I was engaged by the videos we watched and the interesting stories we had the pleasure of hearing from him. Kindel taught me countless good lessons for my future and I could feel the genuine care that he had for us as a whole. I passed each one of the 8 tests and 1 final test with a good score. This demonstrates Kindel's very good instructing ability. It takes a lot of patience and self control to teach a class of 28 teenagers, and I respect Kindel's wonderful ability to keep us at bay. He was a kind person, but strict when he needed to be. I enjoyed spending the last four days at this place and enjoyed having the privilege of being taught by this wonderful man. I can't thank Kindel Daniels enough for the above-expectation, 5 star experience I had this week. I will be recommending this company to friends and family. Thank you.
Positive experience: I definitely think that this 4 day lesson, 8 unit class could have been taught in a day and a half. The instructor is very nice and sounds like he knows what he is doing. Very disciplined and doesn’t miss a beat
Fantastic experience: I learned a lot and the class was really useful, the teacher was funny and he didn’t miss a subject. Overall a good environment and a good class.
Positive experience: Overall it is a great school it was very helpful for passing my permit but us all being teenagers I feel like we lose focus hence the 8 hour classes and the movie clips that the instructor shows have absolutely nothing to do with class I wish it was more interactive even a virtual driving lesson would be much more helpful but I am very glad that they teach us everything we need to know to get on the road just wish they did more to keep is ingaged overall good driving school.
Positive experience: I definitely think that this 4 day lesson, 8 unit class could have been taught in a day and a half. The instructor is very nice and sounds like he knows what he is doing.
Positive experience: the class provided great information and was explained very well. kindel daniels is a great teacher, except for the fact that he likes to go off on a tanget about politics and movies pretty often. nonetheless, we were still taught pretty valuable skills that have to do with maintaining the car, like changing tires, radiator fluid, battery, etc.
Negative experience: The tester my wife’s got was rude, impatient and unprofessional. At the end, he ignored her question if she failed or not, told her to wait at the door and went directly to talk to an irrelevant person in a car. And then back and said she failed. How disrespectful! Update: The reply was talking about someone else. The whole experience was awful. To be fair, the tester Mike she got at the second time was good.
I am sorry your wife failed her driving test. Thankfully the test was in a driver's ed car as I had to take control of the vehicle multiple times. Please remember that she cannot randomly stop the car on Harmony Road because she feels confused (happened 3 times). She must only drive in one lane at a time (you cannot straddle the line and have the car in two lanes while you drive). The person who stopped in the parking lot was someone who almost crashed into your wife and recognized me and the company car. She stopped to see if I was okay. I am sorry this annoyed you. Please remember that these are all fixable problems. Please study and practice the Colorado Driver's Handbook. This information is critical for passing a driving exam.
Negative experience: I don’t believe I have ever given a negative review of any business, because I usually try to give people that benefit of the doubt and see things as practical as I can. That being said, this was one of the most disappointing and frustrating experiences I’ve ever had. I brought my 17-year-old daughter in for her drive test today.. It started out great with the receptionist being very kind and friendly, and working us into a cancellation appointment. It went downhill from there. A guy walks in and identifies my daughter as a driver, handing her the keys, he says “go ahead and familiarize yourself with the vehicle and turn on the headlights when you’re ready”. The car was a fob start and being unfamiliar with the vehicle she could not get the car to start no matter where she placed the fob. The receptionist came out, and also could not figure out why it would not start. At that point that guy comes out to do her driving exam and my daughter said she would rather go ahead and use the car we came in. In the few moments it took me to turn around and get the registration and insurance information he had closed the driver side door of their test vehicle and instructed her that the key would not start unless the driver side door was shut. I walked back over to the test vehicle as he was shutting the passenger door & I could tell she was already extremely uncomfortable. She had absolutely no time to familiarize herself with the car, and off they went. Before they even left the parking lot, he physically grabbed her hands and moved them to the position of 10 and 2 o’clock. He stated that her hands needed to be there or 9 and 3 o’clock. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you should never put your hands on a client, especially if they’re taking a driving/road test. He proceeded to do this exact thing two or three more times throughout the drive. In addition to physically grabbing her hands and moving them, he verbally critiqued her on how she turned the wheel, how she needed to center herself, and only moments later on how she needed to make sure her right wheel was against the solid white line. At one point he said “we are going to keep going straight here”, suddenly changing his mind he said “ wait, never mind. No we’re not.”, at that point he slammed on the teacher brake. Through a construction zone where no pedestrians were present he stated that she needed to stop at the crosswalk. There were so many errors to this road test, and not only is she out $80, but her confidence is crushed, and the thought of taking another road test with somebody like that is enough to use public transportation forever. 1.The hand placement rule is ancient law 2. you should never ever put your hands on a client ESP when they are doing a road test. From that moment and every comment there-forth even the most seasoned drivers would have difficulty focusing. She in fact drove 75% of our road trip to New York City, she drives to and from Fort Collins with me at least 3 times a week, and she has been taking her grandma to appts in Denver for months now. She is an excellent permit driver, and I am 1000% positive that this road test was failed due to the extremely unprofessional road tester who did not even introduce himself. After the test was done, she told her she could grab a brochure and come back for their classes and maybe try again another time. So I’m guessing the ultimate goal was to get another student to pay a course fee? Or perhaps this guy just had a really bad day and decided to make everybody else’s day just as bad. I am pissed that he put his hands on her not once, not twice, but three times. As a young female who has PTSD from a previous traumatic experience this is the worst thing he could’ve done, and it caused her to take her road test under extreme anxiety and panic. It took me two days before I could write this review, because my first instincts were much worse. I would never ever recommend this place for taking a road test, especially if you are a young male or female and cannot bring a companion along for safety.
I’m sorry your daughter failed her driving test. It is even more disappointing as I was the one that did this test and this isn’t what happened. It would be better stated that the applicant received poor training from her mom and could not even start a car. We do not offer failed drive tests lessons nor do we grab applicants on their drive tests. The best advice I can give you again is study the Colorado Driver’s Handbook. This is what you need to know for your driving test.
Negative experience: This place is goonville. Anthony is the worst. He is more concerned with going to car shows and upset he has to work on a Saturday than evaluating a driver that has been driving for 2 years. My child was nervous and has been driving the speed limit or slightly above for more than 2 years. My child always turns right on red. Now, she will be miles away and I have to renew her permit for 3 years because he had a pissy attitude and told me every detail of why he failed every other student that day. My child was not planning on driving regularly just wanted to transfer her permit to a license as the child is moving on to college. His general attitude was screw this I have to work on a Saturday but I want to go to a car show. A hole experience. So now I have to renew a permit for 3 years and wait until next summer so the child can actually get her license. The child is no danger to anyone and actually drove me in an emergency situation to the hospital to have my injury surgically repaired. The general attitude in all of your office is atrocious. So despite your amazing reviews the company is horrific and I have had more than one review from other parents and people that in particular Anthony in Fort Collins is a horrific instructor. Granted if people don't recognize lines and can't drive that is one thing. If the drive on the wrong side of the road that is one thing. If a kid who has test anxiety and needs special conditions and happens to drive too slow but never does normally as they have had their permit 2 years, and turns right on red all the time, and you cancel her for that because you are anxious to get to your card show, but in the two years they have been driving? No problems whatsoever and I have been teaching people to drive whatever. Money sucking grabbing disgusting experience.
I know it is embarrassing and disappointing to fail a driving test and even more so when you are an adult. I’m sure having your mom write a review makes it even more embarrassing. You don’t need to be a State certified license tester to determine that someone who drives half the speed limit needs more practice before getting a license. We know this as the people driving by us we’re flipping us off. Please make sure you know how to drive before coming for a drive test. This the only way to pass the test. With regard to car shows, we do promote our company at car shows. I’m not sure how this is tied to a failed drive test, but it must be important to mom. Please come visit our booth for accurate information about the Company and meet me for yourself.
Positive experience: overall it is a good class and i’ve learned everything i need and i feel confident to start driving, but my instructor brought up some strange things that i thought were inappropriate and not related to driving at all. for example he brought up the nazis many many things related to racism. but overall the class was helpful and i feel confident and comfortable starting driving
Negative experience: It is really one star but the young lady at reception was kind and helpful. The driving instructors failed four kids in a row while I sat there. My son took the class there and was told “you are all set”. The test comes along and everyone is being failed and immediately told how much it is to retest. They claim to be the most inexpensive driving school in Fort Collins, but keep in mind you’ll have to pay more than once. Please go somewhere else.
I’m sorry your son failed his drive test. With regard to pass rates, the pass rate of students who have taken driver’s education with driving time is 90%. It is about 75% for applicants who have not taken a driving class without driving time. Either way, please study the Colorado Driver’s Handbook. This is what you are expected to know during a drive test.
Negative experience: The instructor kindel Daniels was consistently very rude to me and other kids in the class, on several occasions said some pretty outright sexist things, he also would brag about how many guns he has and that he has a concealed carry license, this made me feel unsafe. And just to put the cherry on top I think I've learned more about his political views than I have driving while in this class.
Fantastic experience: This was very informative. Driving is inherently interesting to me and that interest only increased with the Amazing Kindel Daniels! His jokes come at the literal perfect time all the while I still get the responsibility and magnitude of being a save driver. I loved this, never thought I’d look forward to a seemingly endless and boring class. Give Mr Daniels a raise! This Drivers ed class is a 10 out of 10 and 100% recommend
Fantastic experience: The teacher has really good student discipline and he doesn’t miss any unit subject. The class is pretty quiet but some of the popular kids always have something to say. I really like the class and I would recommend this to a lot of people, especially the teacher
Positive experience: this class was good and kindel daniels was a great teacher. it gets a little boring at times but otherwise it is fun and i enjoyed meeting people and learned lots.
Positive experience: the class itself was very helpful and taugh me stuff but it is boring as to be expected but the teacher my class got was awful he was harsh, mean and just not a good teacher definitely pray you don’t get him . he showed none of us respect and expected for us to show him respect. our teacher kicked a kid out of class it was so unnecessary and more disruptive and distracting than the kid was being . but the lessons they teach are good and they cover many good aspects
Negative experience: Gal who answers the phone in Loveland was extremely rude and unhelpful. If you want your child to ever drive schedule it for nine months out, because they are so overwhelmed and can't provide the services they say they can. Once you have paid for drivers education class, they make very little attemp to fulfill the rest of their obligations to drive with the students. The driving lessons that are supposed to be 2 hrs are more like 1and 20 minutes. Good luck!
We are in the process to switching to an online scheduling service. The company that is providing this service will not have the September schedule working until August 1, 2023. This will be a significant improvement to our current scheduling system. Please be patient. Yelling at the staff will not speed things up or help in this massive change to our company.
Fantastic experience: I really love the class, The teacher is really great at explaining the material. And plus every hour every student gets a 5-10 minute break. Really great place 10/10
Positive experience: Be warned to dress comfy and coast as the buildings AC is Very cold. And I recommend bringing or buying an energy drink for each day. It was short class ;only four days but felt like forever. Nice that is was over in a short time and you get six hours of driving lesions/time with and instructor once you get your permit. Nice that students are able to go to the gas’s station during lunch to grab a bite and snack as well. Certain teacher Kindel D. Has lots of opinion including political views that are NOT apropiarte to be sharing in a work and teaching environment.
Positive experience: The class is a little long and it can get tiring but overall, it was very informative and easy to understand the lessons. I’d recommend for people to choose this place to get their driving education
Positive experience: Pretty fun, our teacher showed us older movies about driving (which was fun) and I think he got the point across and overall I think they did a good job and teaching everyone how to drive
Fantastic experience: the classes are very informative and easy to understand. Not only that, but a 5 minute break every hour for the students is great and contributes to the attentiveness and enjoyment of the class. If you have a child who needs to learn how to drive, this is the place to go.
Fantastic experience: great class, very informative. the classes are quite long and can be a bit boring at times, but are definitely worth it. instructor was very kind and helpful!
Fantastic experience: I think it was a very good 4 days and I learned a lot that I didn’t know. The teacher was super nice and respectful towards everyone. Overall a good class
Positive experience: The teacher was nice, however it was a little boring and I feel as though we could do more educational games! But, I did learn a lot and it was helpful.
Positive experience: I really enjoyed this class, it was easy to understand and our teacher always had energy which made it entertaining. It’s just so long and starts early.
Negative experience: Experienced driver, 30 years with a perfect record overseas. Got my permit and signed up for a refresher 2-hour lesson specifically to prepare for the driving test. The lesson went well. We drove all around Fort Collins in late afternoon. At the beginning, the instructor gave me some suggestions regarding hand usage on the wheel and stopping distance in traffic. The entire last hour he relaxed, took notes, and told me where to turn. This was during rush hour. At the conclusion, he reminded me to keep two hands on the wheel during the test. That was it. No suggestion for additional classes was made. A few days later I scheduled the driving test. I thought that the test would be a natural extension of my recent successful lesson. I was dead wrong. Rather than a seamless transition, this was driving over a cliff. The test was nothing at all like the lesson, with a whole different tone and set of driving rules. The examiner had an arrogant attitude from the onset. He pushed me when I encountered a stalled vehicle blocking the only lane to move in an unsafe manner. He then terminated the test for obstructing traffic because I drove 35 in a 40. I drove exactly as I had at the lesson! Back at the office as I was protesting, he referred to me as a "bad driver" (yet somehow the instructor did not notice this a few days earlier). He said so in such a smug condescending manner that he seems to have personality issues. There went $240 down the drain for absolutely nothing. The owner will no doubt come on here and bash my story or call me a bad driver, but no worries. You don't have to take my word for it. Do yourself a favor and filter this company's reviews by searching for the word "test". Do the same on Yelp. Read all the positive and negative comments from those who actually took the driving test at MS. You cannot help but see a clear and disturbing pattern of complaints regarding rude condescending examiners setting testees up for failure. Each is dutifully followed by a gaslighting reply from the owner. Who to believe? Are we all lying? You be the judge. Don't pay attention to the owner's typical response about untrained drivers who are just complaining about failure. Other local schools do not operate anything like this place, and would certainly never refer to a paying customer as a "bad driver". Although I will not publicly speculate about the honesty or business model of Mountain States, I will say that they have no monopoly on driver's testing in Fort Collins. Go anywhere else.
I’m very sorry that your wife failed her driving test. I realize as an adult, this can be embarrassing and frustrating. It is worth mentioning that with minimal training (2 hours of professional tutoring), application of this new knowledge can be inconsistent and unpredictable. With this limited experience, virtually any unusual circumstance will result In the student making an incorrect decision. Please consider additional practice before attempting your next exam. It is also worth mentioning that we do not have to use name calling to describe someone’s driving. We simply explain what we wrote down, add up the score, and advise the applicant on their next steps.
Fantastic experience: The classes were amazing, starting from the first lesson teacher explained to us all of the material understandable and fluently. Whole question that students were asking were answered and explained. And especially the fact, that we as student were able to have a snack time just makes studying more exciting.
Positive experience: Class is a little long. But it was very informative and he was awesome and was super chill. Overall it was pretty fun and we would get donuts at the start of every class. It is a great driving school. Some of the videos are old but I learned a lot.
Fantastic experience: This class is great! I learned more through it than I could any other way. The classes are a bit long (over 8 hours) but the material is engaging and fun. They taught all sorts of skills, from driving safely to how to perform an oil change. The best driver’s education place in Northern Colorado.
Positive experience: The class has been very informative. They are very long days, but it’s a lot of information to cover so the long days make sense. My daughter received all the info she needs to get her permit and stay safe on the roads.
Negative experience: Way too overpriced for the service given. My daughter had to schedule four different times due to each one being canceled. One of which they said they had scheduled but they did not on their computer. Finally on the fourth try to schedule a 20 minute drivers test, it had not been cancelled. On top of the annoying cancellations, each time she called it was about a 25% chance some one would answer or not. Overall waste of general time and time that could have been spent in class. Wouldn’t recommend unless you want a bit of a hassle.
As you can see from the review, their is no problem with the curriculum, the cars, the quality of instruction, but other frustrations. From 8 am to 5 pm weekdays we have 6 people answering phones and returning messages/emails. On weekends we always have at least one person answering phones and returning messages. If you do not reach the site you want, try another site as any site can schedule for any other site. With regard to cost for our comprehensive course with driving time, the cost is less than $14.00/hour. I do not think it is possible to run a program of this quality for significantly less than this amount. For the most prompt service, please call during business hours. We want to help you immediately, but simply need to help the first callers or customers before we can help the next one. Thank you for your patience.
Fantastic experience: It wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had, but its the best I could’ve gotten. Theresa is a good teacher and I’m glad I got a drivers ed class on the highest end of boring. This is as good a ms it gets.
Positive experience: She was strict on the phones but overall thought me a ton about driving. A lot of old videos but informative. Our teacher loved 70's pop music and it gave the class a good vibe
Positive experience: The class was overall a good experience. It got boring at some points but the instructor kept it interesting. They are pretty strict on talking, phones, and earbuds but it wasn’t really an issue. I learned a lot and had a good time.
Negative experience: Took the driver's ed and the driver's test. The driver's test was great, and I felt the test was fair, and very professional. The driver's ed on the other hand, was terrible. I had Theresa, and she hardly taught me what I needed to know about the permit test, much less the driving test. I was doing the test, and on 3 separate occasions I had the tester tell me that the instructor was supposed to teach me something that I had no clue on. She complained about an accident she was in for a whole day despite it having nothing to do with the education. One time she argued with me about stopping distance, she said that abs and locking brakes have the same floored stop distance (not true at all), and wasn't willing to even consider looking it up. I would absolutely pay $450 for any teacher that isn't the one I got.
Fantastic experience: I had my road test this afternoon with Michael from driving school. My experience during driving was one most pleasant and relaxed as my instructor made me feel comfortable about the test, gave good instructions throughout.Very professional!
Positive experience: The instructor is great very funny and she seemingly has a great attitude with the students. The reason I can only give it three stars is that I found the pamphlets/books in the front regrettable at the least and it was difficult to use my preferred name during class because I was afraid of the atmosphere
Positive experience: Pretty good. Obviously 32 hours of class instruction can only be so engaging, and can get pretty boring, but it’s worth it I think. Our instructor Theresa was very nice and the class overall was very informative. And no the chairs are not THAT bad.
Fantastic experience: The drivers Ed class is a bit long, but it is very informative and has prepared me well for my permit test. They had a few hands on experiences with a car and understanding important skills such as changing a tire. The class could be a bit more engaging but overall definitely a good use of time! They explained well what different issues could happen with a car and how to address them. Miss Gabi was my instructor and did an excellent job explaining concepts and varying the content between videos and lecture for a pleasant experience.
Positive experience: The drivers Ed class is definitely on the boring side but, it’s not a horribly strict or terrible teaching style especially for kids who prefer lecture based classes. If a kid can’t sit for a few hour long lectures maybe look into a different place or have the classes be a tiny bit more engaging to keep awake. Other than that good information and immediate way to test your knowledge to see what you’ve retained.
Negative experience: All negative comments you are reading are the truth, and I doubt they have so many good reviews. They failed my second road test for unacceptable reasons. I drove for many years, so I learned two hours of driver’s lessons from them and practiced by myself. If you felt the test was not fair and required a detailed and reasonable explanation. Everyone at this driving school takes off their masks. The tester became very rude, in fact, he had a bad attitude throughout the test and refused to talk more to you, using busy work as an excuse. If you try to reach out to the boss, that would be more awful. He was condescending and told me I’d better go away and go to another driver’s school. Once he decides he’s not going to provide me with any more tests or training, if I show up at their office, they will call the police and remove me. I finally met Anthony Smith. His explanation for why I got only 12 points on my driving test was still confused. He ended our conversation perfunctorily by saying he is very busy, and his time is money. I do believe such a mercenary company will treat you kindly when you put your money in their pocket. If you look at their past negative reviews, they can always blame mistakes on customers or others. I think I’m no exception, and they’ll point out that it’s all my fault and they don’t have to apologize or be responsible for any of their actions. This experience taught me a profound lesson and reminded me to choose my next driving school more carefully. If you are reading this review, think about it.
I know when you repeatedly fail your driving test, it can be frustrating. I don’t know how it could be more clear when cars are honking at you, you almost crash the car, and the tester has to stop the test, trade places with you, and drive the car back to the office. All I can say to this is let her drive your car and you’ll know why she needs to learn to drive before she can get a license.
Fantastic experience: Great class. Currently in Drivers Ed. Ms Theresa is very nice and polite. She has made learning in this class very fun. And if your looking for a driving school I would recommend this one.
Fantastic experience: Overall great, fun, and calm class! The teacher was super awesome and really helps you understand! The little reviews on units are really helpful and I'm glad we get little breaks. Thank you for teaching us!
Positive experience: It’s an informative class (I participated in drivers Ed) but it is extremely boring and the instructor appeared to be uninterested in getting to know any of us as they repeatedly pronounced my name wrong even after being corrected multiple times. Overall, I learned a lot and it’s a decent class. Edit: After viewing my review, the instructor was very quick to fix the problem of mispronouncing my name. Very well done.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed Theresa, she was a really awesome teacher! she was interactive and made learning about driving fun. There is a lot of videos, but on the end it is worth it. the days can be long, but getting your permit is worth it.
Negative experience: Unfortunately i had an extremely disappointing experience. The staff was rude the entire time (excluding the secretary). during my test i was scolded for stopping before the cross walk like i was taught because i was not triggering the light, soon after i was told i was going to slow. I responded by speeding up but still going under the speed limit because that is the law. My instructer continued to pressure me to go over the speed limit when i knew this would be an automatic fail. After when explaining why i failed he insulted me again. Me and my mother who was also there agree they were completely unprofessional and inconsistent with instructions.
I understand when someone has repeatedly failed their drive test at multiple sites with different instructors it can be tempting to make-up excuses as to why you haven't passed a test yet. It is worthwhile to step away from the tester feedback and look at the objective facts. When a school bus passes you, you don't know what school zones mean, your unsure of how to use the mirrors on the car, and anything faster than 10 mph feels too fast, you need help. Steer clear of discount driving school lessons and look for quality instruction. Making excuses and making-up scenarios will not get you a driver's license. We are here to help. Please use the actual feedback and work on those skills that need fixed. Getting a license when you are not ready for one could cause a crash.
Positive experience: I’ve learned a lot in a very short amount of time. I wish the lessons were a little shorter but it makes sense that they are long because they have a lot to teach in only four days. Overall great experience, but maybe try to incorporate more hands on labs.
Positive experience: The class was boring the first two days but I still learned a lot. The last two days were much more enjoyable with a different teacher. All in all this was very helpful in strengthening and rooting my mind for the drivers test.
Positive experience: Overall, I have enjoyed my time here at Mountain States Driver's Ed. I do wish there was less textbook work and more teaching from the instructor themselves though. I really liked having Mr. Lamson as the instructor, he made the class more fun and interactive. That's very important for the length of the class.
Positive experience: Overall the process was tedious and boring but there are occasional activities that keep it lively, and I would not say it's a bad experience but I wouldn't consider it a good one either. I enjoyed the instructor for our third and fourth classes but still, work was extremely annoying. Still got me through it though.
Positive experience: The class was definitely long, But It was really in depth and had good context. I got a lot out of it and I would recommend the 32 hour one, rather than the 4 hour one. You will get a lot more out of the 32 hour one. ( also loved the dog!)
Positive experience: They provide a good class to take to learn the principles of driving. The teacher explains things well, and makes things easy to understand. I however do wish that there could be more hands on interaction, or interaction with peers. (I love the dog)
Positive experience: The condition of our classroom was well very maintained and ventilated. I felt safe and comfortable around all the people around me. Overall this experience was a positive experience. However, the technology was not well streamlined and it felt like every time we switched to a new PowerPoint or movie we would wait 1-3 minutes.
Positive experience: It is a good driving school that teaches well for many situations. However, I would like some more instructing from the teacher themself rather than so much reading from the textbook. The videos are nice, but it would be a better learning experience with more interaction and opportunities for questions with the instructor. Overall, you are taught everything you need to know but the days can be long with the sitting and reading.
Positive experience: The classroom experience was a little rough because of the amount of time spent sitting, you get 5 minute breaks every hour or so, and a 30 minute lunch. It can feel extremely long after a few days, however, the content is good and it was quite easy for registration. Overall not bad
Positive experience: The class is good. It is made as interesting as possible in the environment. I think that if more attention was paid to the actual class some students experience could be better. (Specifically watching if a student is made uncomfortable or unsafe in the environment for any reason.)
Positive experience: Mountain states does a really good job clearly and effectively teaching how to drive. I have 4 stars because there definitely could be more opportunities for interaction to make the class more interesting. Overall a great driving school to go to!
Positive experience: The course was very informative about things that I was a little confused about to begin with. We were given a good amount of breaks, and I felt well prepared for the tests. It was a little cold in the classroom, so bring a sweatshirt if you take this course, but overall it was very clean and proffesional.
Positive experience: was pretty good. gave us good information and showed us how to change a tire. they’re very nice instructors but get 4 stars because it gets quite boring. maybe could make it more interactive with other students and more hands on.
Positive experience: Honestly really enjoyed my time here! Landon was a great instructor. The reason that i made it 3 stars was simply for the sub that we had on the 2nd of may. She was quite rude and did not even let us look at the floor. Landon is great though!
Fantastic experience: Though I first met this class with contempt (primarily for the simple reason of taking a whole Sunday), it soon impressed me with it’s professional and caring staff. With all the info learned in this class I now may get my permit and license and drive with confidence on the road ways. Landon was also pretty cool as a teacher.
Fantastic experience: They are great, super informative and really prepare you for what you will actually need. Landon os one of the teachers and he is amazing, super funny and makes the class a lot more fun and light. I highly recommend you use mountain states as your driving school.
Fantastic experience: Landon is a super awesome and easy going teacher. you can tell he likes what he does and it makes the class more enjoyable. Wish there was more opportunities for classes , and make up classes. awesome and super easy to get it out of your way on a sunday. even though it is all day , it is super easy, fun , and laid back but also while learning :))
Negative experience: Terrible experience, zero ownership or empathy from Mtn States, and lacking in customer service: Knowing that spaces and classes fill fast, we signed our daughter up in January. Just last week, almost two months later, Mountain States realized that they scheduled the class on Easter & cancelled. We were left with two options: Spring Break or the following class that does not allow my daughter to get her permit on her birthday. I asked for a spot in both, while we tried to problem solve schedules, and then I would make a decision after a callback from the owner. He did not call. Because I did not get a return call I left a message to let them know we would like to take a spot in the following class because we cannot change our spring break plans. Today I received a call that they did not in fact hold a spot, and the class is now full. Both Jason, and Brooke, with whom I spoke were rude, inflexible and unapologetic to the fact that this was their error, and that it put our family in a very bad position. I did not receive an apology or understanding for the predicament that their mistake put our family in. I understand mistakes happen, however, they were rigid and rude. I would not recommend this driving school, especially for anyone who plans in advance or has a contingency date as they are not reliable and have terrible customer service.
