Fantastic experience: Before Daniel's lessons, I never wanted to be behind the wheel due to the unexpected. Once I met Daniel, he gave me tips on making driving safe and fun; after our first couple of lessons, I knew I had chosen the right teacher. His patience and consistent advice on making driving easier made me want to improve my skills with each lesson I completed. During our lessons, I would mess up, as most people do, but Daniel would try to point out the positives instead of lecturing me on why I messed up, which would encourage me to try again and fix the mistake instead of feeling bad for myself. There is so much more to say about how Daniel is one of the best-driving teachers out there; all I can say is that my money was well invested, and being a defensive driver is crucial these days.

I worked with Daniel to build my foundation as an absolute beginner. My goals were ambitious: 1- Become a competent, confident driver on Hawai'i's unpredictable roads. 2- Minimize the risk of accidents as close to zero as possible. 3- Beat driving anxiety with so much proof of my ability that doubting myself would feel ridiculous. In just two two-hour sessions, Daniel exceeded my expectations: Uncovering the Unknowns: Daniel helped me recognize 'unknown unknowns'—crucial skills many beginner drivers overlook. He taught me precise visual cues for turns and techniques to sharpen my situational awareness. While session one was packed with driving, it also included a wealth of driving 'academics,' memorable acronyms, and strategies I'd never encountered. Undoing Bad Lessons: Daniel dismantled unhelpful habits from previous instructors. One past mentor taught me only 'shuffle steering' and reacted to small mistakes with insults and political tangents. In contrast, Daniel kept everything respectful and professional and focused on skill-building. At one point, I hit a curb and drove over it, and he recognized the mistake but positively encouraged me to keep going. Encouragement Over Critique: When I made mistakes, like hitting a curb, Daniel responded with encouragement rather than criticism. This approach was a breath of fresh air, motivating me to keep improving. After just two sessions, I felt ready to drive with my father, who usually struggles to stay calm with new drivers. Thanks to Daniel's guidance, even he felt optimistic about my driving—a true reflection of how well Daniel prepared me. Fantastic experience: Started learning how to drive a car a year ago, taught by family and friends, and after some failed attempts to pass my road test, my husband suggested that I should take a couple of driving lessons from a qualified instructor. He recommended A One Driving School. When he was in the process of getting his license, he also took lessons from Daniel and it helped him pass the test and become a better driver. I had two lessons with Daniel during my fall break from work, and he helped me recognize the mistakes I was making and correct them. His lessons are very methodological, which might be confusing or overwhelming to some people, but it just takes patience, practice, and confidence. Today I passed my road test!

Fantastic experience: Daniel was a great teacher for my daughter, Aubrey, and highly recommend his services! She had taken a Drivers Ed class through her school and got minimal instruction from the teacher and only six hours total. When I found out how much behind the wheel the Drivers Ed instructor was going to provide, I googled for a private instructor and Daniel's name popped up. I emailed him, he got back to me after about a week (he was on vacation) and replied quickly with all the information that I needed. Daniel helped her be more confident in her driving skills and she was able to pass her road test after one try! Fantastic experience: When I first started lessons I was scared and overwhelmed but when the week past on and I saw improvement on my driving those feelings of scared and overwhelmed faded. Daniel kaimi is a really good teacher he will not give up on you and always give you 100% honesty about how your driving is. I’be been driving for 56 years and damn if I didn’t learn a whole lot about driving, parking, and just about cars in general. Fantastic experience: Great guy and even better driving instructor! Taught me how to drive a manual drive from zero, was very patient with me the entire time, and very easy to understand. I cannot recommend Daniel Kaimi enough!

Negative experience: I thought to go with this driving school because of the number of good reviews, but was disappointed in my own experience with Daniel. His price is more expensive than that of other’s, which is fine by me if I didn’t get the feeling that he was milking it. He INSISTED on me booking him for 2 hours at the very least, 2 days consecutively per week. That is $300 minimum a week. I asked around (friends and professionals) and no one has heard of this kind of teaching and agreed that he was taking advantage of the situation. I politely told him that I am a graduate student in between steady work, and he kept his prices firm, which again is fine.. but I received a discount WITHOUT even asking at the next driving school. Overpricing and greed aside, I was hoping to see positive results from our sessions. But he is a militant personality who does not foster a learning environment. He also spends MORE than an hour just talking about THEORY, leaving the actual drive to about 30 minutes each time. My guess is he is minimizing the risk of his car being damaged by student drivers, but I did not pay to be lectured. I mention again, that I am a graduate student, if I want theory, I will read a book or two for much less time and money. His theories ended up being unhelpful in the end as after I received lessons from another driving school, I used what they’ve taught me to pass my driving test in town. I recommend shopping around for the right instructor and school before committing to spending your hard earned $$$.

Fantastic experience: Daniel’s approach will work particularly well for people who value critical thinking and methodology. He’s not going to couch you for the exam, but will make you a better, safer, more knowledgable driver. I had two two-hour lessons with him (which is way too little) but it put me onto a different level of driving. He fixed my ‘wide turns’ in one session. He will make you pay attention to every little detail and his witty expressions will stick and pop up in your head as you continue driving. Negative experience: Paying for a 4-hour “evaluation” lesson at a1 will buy yourself a vehicle and driver for your Road Test at A+ Clark’s Driving School, and you will still have change left over. If you just need a vehicle and driver for your Road Test like YoGov offers on the mainland, call A+ Clark’s Driving School first, maybe a1 second. Update: 2/7/2020 I passed the Road Test at Kapalama without taking 10-15 lessons Daniel said I needed in order to pass.

Fantastic experience: If you want to pass your Hawaii Road test “one and done” Daniel Kaimi, owner of A-One Driving School is the person you need to see. Daniel is a “driving whisperer”. He will have you parallel parking on a dime in no time. Daniel treats his students with respect, kindness and patience. You will not be disappointed.

Negative experience: I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GUY. You can find others, with a cheaper hourly rate, and wont overcharge for nothing. I had no time and he was the only one available. I called 8 different schools. I paid 550$ to get my license. Pros: Good teacher Cons: Overcharged me a full hour (65$). We had a 4 hour lesson. But got done in 3hours. Told him we spent less than 4 hours. He said NO. Made an excuse, that he counted driving all the way to the meeting point. Which, I was NOT in the car with him. UNACCEPTABLE. Hourly rate is high, 65$, (others offer a 50$ hourly rate)

Fantastic experience: Don't think twice and go with this guy, the lessons you'll learn will stick with you if you put in the effort. If you just want to learn how to drive manual or just need more practice I highly recommend this instructor. He will walk you through step by step to get rid of all your bad habits, while being calm and collective. He is easy going and easy to talk to. His tactic is to keeps you in a calm collective state so you're not always jumping all over the place worrying all the time. Scheduling was easy and he came to me to pick me up and drop me off when we were finished.

Fantastic experience: If you're looking for an AWESOME! Driving Instructor, with plenty of patience, abundance of defensive driving knowledge and makes learning fun. A One Driving School is for you. I truly believe he could teach a monkey how to drive. He'll soon be teaching my son & daughter how to drive safely with confidence. Fantastic experience: Learning to Drive is not easy specially coming from another country. I tried a few other driver instructors but when I went with Daniel @ A One Driving School l learned how to drive safely and efficiently. And a year later, I went back to learn how to drive Manual shift/ Standard vehicle. I didn't think anybody could teach me how to drive Manual Shift vehicle but after just a 2 hour lesson with A One Driving School " It's a Miracle!!! Now, I only like driving Manual Shift vehicle. Fantastic experience: Great learning process! I definitely had some moments where I wanted to give up but by sticking with him I was able to learn all of the things that normal public school drivers ed. teaches and more! He took me through Chinatown as well as places where traffic was a nightmare but he always made sure that I was aware of all of my surroundings and that I knew what I was doing before I did it. He was very patient with me and had me do things more than once so that I got it right at least 3 times in a row so that I would be able to do it on the first try the next time I did it. If you can't learn the correct way to listen and drive from a professional driver like him, I honestly don't think you will be able to learn to drive. Take the chance with him and you will definitely become a safe driver!
