Bria, I'm so sorry to hear you are disappointed with the driving instruction we provided. When I read your comments it prompted me to dig through our Student Driving Logs to see who taught your daughter, and exactly what had or hadn't been covered. I was surprised to find that your daughter finished her 6 hours of in-car lessons with us in June of 2021 with one of our most seasoned instructors & educators, who has never had a negative review in all their many years with our company. They listed very detailed notes on your daughter's driving log, verifying that all required skills had been taught and included a list of skills that would need to be practiced over the 6 months of supervised instructional time with parents required by the Idaho GDL program. All our students drive in neighborhoods, back roads, side streets, rural highways, busy roads, multi-lane intersections of all types, freeways, downtown Boise and perform every skill required at least 1 or more times. Although parallel parking is not on the Idaho driving test, we usually try to teach each student the reference points needed to make it easier to learn it, if we have time. I'm sorry you felt we should have spent more time on that skill and regular parking, but I can assure you that your student spent a good majority of her time learning other more important life-saving skills instead. As for driving procedures when school buses are present, that doesn't happen to be an experience we can create ourselves during the summer months when school is not in session, so that skill would need to be covered later by the parent. We always conclude the final 6th hour of driving with a parent ride along to give each parent a bird's eye view of what their student learned during their short time with us. It showcases what types of skills have been mastered as well as those that will require extra coaching from the parents before being eligible to test for a license. I still wondered if perhaps you hadn't been able to attend the parent ride along to see where she was at with all those skills listed in your review. However, your printed name and signature are on the agreement statement at the bottom of the log which states, "I, Bria Bodine (in your handwriting), have witnessed my student perform the skills needed to feel comfortable entering the next phase of the Idaho Graduated Drivers Licensing program. I agree to release Rocky Road Driving School, Inc. from any liability and agree that they have fulfilled their responsibility of training and preparing my student to become a safe and responsible driver." If you were not satisfied with what we provided, contacting us in June or July so we could make arrangements to rectify that for you may have served a greater purpose rather that waiting until October to complain publicly. I suspect that if indeed that much time had passed between her lessons with us and the supervised driving practice she was finally able to do with you, it would likely feel as though she never learned anything at all by then. We do not just hand out paper certificates without them being earned, which is why we keep such detailed Student Driving Logs. I could list many different traffic situations that don't arise during a 6 hour stint with an instructor that make it impossible to teach everything, but that is why the Graduated Drivers Licensing Program exists and is designed with 6 months of supervised driving with an adult after drivers ed has been completed. We have made it our mission to equip young drivers with as much knowledge and practical experience as we can within the small amount of time we are allotted. No student becomes an expert in every aspect of driving after just 6 short hours of behind the wheel training with an instructor. What we can provide is a strong foundation of sound driving procedures for parents & students to build on. We hope you will find that sufficient as you partner with us to provide a positive experience for your driver.

I am sincerely sorry to hear that your experience with us here at Rocky Road was not as positive as you were hoping. I remember your family’s situation very well as it all unfolded back in May of 2019. I recall that the instructor forgot to make his scheduled pick up of permits and certificates, which turned into the garbage truck picking them up for him and thus your student’s permit being lost. I remember sending you the replacement fee in order to have it restored but I am sorry that you were forced to go back to the DMV to get it and that is always inconvenient. From that experience we learned a valuable lesson about our security and safety of materials and have created a new system to avoid that type of issue in the future. It has worked well over the last nine months. With regard to the information your student learned from our instructor, we stand behind the Rocky Road program's instruction and the fact that we work in concert with the state testers in order to guarantee that our students learn all of the laws and road rules in order to be safe and defensive drivers. We make sure to repeat and drill as many situational aspects of the test as possible, but I'm sorry that your student was not as ready as they needed to be to pass their test after having graduated from our drivers ed course what appears to be 9 months ago, based on when we last interacted with him and the date of your post. Your truth is your own and again I am sorry that your individual experience wasn't one that you felt was worthy of any praise. That being said, there have only been 5 Google reviews in the life of Rocky Road and this is our first negative one since I started the company over 12 years ago. I love this business and I believe in my instructors and their heart to teach students to be as safe and sound drivers as possible, and this is why I feel obligated to defend this program. I wish that the over 5,000 students that have gotten into cars with us and allowed us to teach them safely how to navigate the road would all take the time to post their review of their experience. From feedback we can be encouraged, we can learn how to improve, and we can learn to develop ways to enhance our patron’s experience. Our mission remains the same, to provide the fastest most affordable and flexible comprehensive driving program in the Treasure Valley. In today's society where no news is good news please consider the large number of students and their family's lack of communication on a Google review platform to state that we have been able to meet their needs successfully for over the last 12 years in the best way possible.
