Mr Mikes Driving School: Reviews
Negative experience: Some of the negative reviews I read are so true. I searched Google for a driving school for my son. This school popped up. I called twice and no one never answered, left messages and to this day, still no return call. SMH Praise God I read the reviews!
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience, fantastic and knowledgeable person. Highly recommend for road tests 10/10
Fantastic experience: Mr Mike was a fantastic teacher for me and my siblings! We all went through him and learned so much. He made us feel comfortable and talked to us like we were his own kids! Very sweet man!
Negative experience: This genuinely was the worst driving experience i have ever had. He was rude, not professional, and on top of that made my anxiety go straight through the roof. First he had me get in the car and just straight go. I had no idea about half the buttons in the car, and made me feel stupid for not knowing certain things. I was still learning and if i made a mistake with the blinkers he had a paper that he wrote down, “blonde moments” and would add a tally every time. We were then going down a road and his blinkers were super sensitive, i by accidentally knocked it and it would turn off, he proceeded to hit me on my hand. He then lied to my mom about it stating i almost, “ran into a ditch”, the ditches in the road were being filled and were already filled. I understand some of the mistakes i made were crucial, but some were simple and he still yelled the entire time. The rest of the 2 hour drive was so scary; i was scared to even make a small mistake or ask questions. If asked a question about driving he’d tell me to, “Be quiet don’t worry about that”. While i was trying to actively learn and excited to drive he made me scared to drive for the next following weeks. I HIGHLY do not recommend, he is super unprofessional and does not care about you learning how to drive, more so rushing you into it so you can hurry up and he can move on and get his money, hints why they only expect cash.
Negative experience: I can’t even count how many times I called and no one answered. I spoke to a man named Mike twice. The first time, he told me a woman would come to pick me up so I could start my driving sessions, but no one showed up. I had to call again, and the second time he told me to call him back later, which I did, but still no one answered. I also emailed and texted, but received no response. I'm really glad I didn't pay that man anything—thank goodness! If you’re considering driving with him because it's cheap, think again. Just because it's affordable doesn't mean it's good. It would be better to spend $400 on a reputable driving school instead of dealing with this extremely unprofessional experience.
Negative experience: So here is my one time experience with Mr. Mike. Not gonna lie, I was very skeptical about driving with him because all the reviews here suck, but someone suggested that I just try him out to see how it would go. I give him a good two stars because he was a pretty decent instructor, but there were a lot of things that made him unprofessional. A few light hearted jokes here and there cool, I can handle those. There was a moment where he made me drive to whoever’s place to move a grill or something. i parked, and he got out the car and moved said grill and started chatting it up with the guy that I believe was giving him the grill. Id say he was out there for a good five minutes. Mind you, you are PAYING HIM for a two hour drive. Not to sit and watch him chat for a few minutes. Then there was a moment where I was suppose to be turning, and I genuinely did not remember if he told me which way to turn, so I asked him, and then all he did was say “GO GO GO!!” And I asked which way?? And he said “I told you to go left” and then proceeded to say a very smart comment to me, he said “common sense would tell you that you can’t go straight.” Like well yeah but all i asked was which way, and all I needed was a left or a right, not for you to yell at me and just say “GO GO GOO GO!!!” Now, for one as a grown man, and also as a driving instructor that’s suppose to make people feel confident in their driving, don’t you think saying smart ass comments like that would make peoples confidence drop down? When that moment happened, all I could think about were these reviews. Lots of parents saying mike tore their kids confidence down and sparked up their anxiety. I could definitely see why they would say that. Now I’m a very emotional person so when that moment happened, I started crying because I was frustrated. But I decided to put my feelings to the side and book with him again. we were shooting for a Tuesday. I messaged him on saturday to see what he had available and I never got a response. I questioned the message Monday and still did not hear anything. Well, I was awaken by my phone ringing Tuesday morning and it was him, asking me if I was ready for some driving this morning. I said um I’m sorry I just woke up. He rudely said very fast “alright talk to you later bye” and well, I never heard from him again. After he hung up, I messaged him and said I was trying to schedule. And like I said it’s been a few days so I guess he’s busy or he doesn’t want to help me. Well, point is if you can handle light hearted jokes and a quick stop of your time and money wasted then id say book a drive with him! He is the cheapest around here in Charleston, so you get what you pay for!
Fantastic experience: I met Mr. Mike some time ago after signing up for a driving lesson and test, during which time I was 17, homeless and living in a car. Though I did not tell him this, he eventually caught on to my situation. I believe it must have followed me having no money for the lunch break we stopped for, no debit card in general, and the fact that when he came to pick me up for the lesson, I was parked in a friends driveway, sitting amongst my belongings and the objects that made up my makeshift bed. Mr. Mike eventually realized I could barely afford the license, insurance, registration fees, driving lesson, and taxes that went along with making my “home” street legal, let alone food for the night. He took it upon himself, at no request of my own, to drive me to the bank and wait through their issues with my lack of identification, where I was able to secure a new debit card to be able to pay for things I needed easier, pay for my meal at Chick-fil-a, bring me to the DMV and personally ensure that my license was issued to me without trouble, refused to take payment for my driving lesson or test, and to top it all off, he gave me his business card, wrote down an address to a local store where I could get food, and told me if I ever really needed to, I could go there and he’d pay for it. All of this took hours of his time, and he did not bat an eye at the net loss in profit for the day. At an incredibly dark time in my life, Mr. Mike was nothing but a bright light and blessing. I still think about his actions to this day. Words truly cannot describe my gratitude for the kindness he offered when I didn’t even know how to ask. I felt the least I could do all these years later would be to leave an honest and positive review of his services. I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Mike for all of your driving instruction needs— Both an experienced instructor, and a man with a heart.
Fantastic experience: Most people review on here that Mr Mike is "rude" and "yells" at kids. However I'm here to say he doesn't yell at you unless you make a serious mistake he TOLD you to watch out for. Mr Mike is an amazing instructor and taught me so many important lessons. Highly recommend him. If a driving instructor hurts your feelings your issues are bigger than him.
Fantastic experience: This school is fantastic! Mr. Mike is a great teacher. He is passionate about his work, great with kids, and made sure everyone in the class participated! Mrs. Sandy is incredible! She is very easy going, and great with nervous drivers like me! Such a sweet lady! Couldn't have done it without her! Thank you both so very much!
Negative experience: Told me my son had plenty of book sense but not common sense. Also could not tell me what i could do to help him get better. Then i find out they drive by his house. He tore down my teenage son that was pretty vulnerable anyways. I would never put a child in his hands!
Negative experience: Do not go through him. Highly unprofessional and not good for people with anxiety. My lesson with him was informative but also cranked my anxiety out while having him in the vehicle. If you have lgbt youth please go somewhere else his attitude really only speaks to kids that are straight and used to dealing with people like him.
Fantastic experience: Overall an amazing experience, the class was very knowledgeable and taught me a lot of things I didn’t know. Mr. Mike is a great instructor, very professional, friendly and easy to talk too.
Fantastic experience: He is very professional and friendly, I had 5 children go through this driving school. He is a pleasure to deal with and my children were very comfortable during the classes!
Negative experience: he was SO RUDE. don’t spend your money on him.
Negative experience: Stop using Old Cherry Hill Road in Moncks Corner as a place to teach! It is so annoying and a busy road used by lots of people. Stop using Old Cherry Hill Road!!!
Negative experience: I contacted Mr. Mike's upon recommendation from an acquaintance. The woman I spoke with was very helpful and informative. I did as she asked and sent them an email requesting an application. It took several weeks to receive after several reminder emails. I was told he would call me and have still not received a telephone call from them after sending them a reminder email. I would not recommend them to anyone. They are disorganized and do not follow through with what they tell you. Even though they are on the cheaper end of driving schools, you get what you pay for.
Negative experience: He had a terrible attitude and was just ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: Great experience overall. He made the course not so boring and had everyone participating. If you're looking for a defensive driving course. Look no further!
Negative experience: If i could give it 0 stars i would!!!!! VERY BAD SERVICE
Negative experience: HORRIBLE experience. My son, who has severe anxiety, said this man yelled at him and acted completely unprofessional. Definitely would not recommend.
Fantastic experience: Mr mike was wonderful when my daughter went thru his class. We were able to do the driving test with him also for an added fee because he is a former police officer.
Negative experience: This guy mr mike is joke. I instead went to another place in Georgetown that helped with my anxiety driving and got my license on the first try. I would recommend them over him any day this man is total shyster that want to milk as much money out of you and wastes your time.
Fantastic experience: Mr. Mike is an awesome instructor. He makes the class very interesting.
Positive experience: I came in a relatively terrible driver and at the end of my 3 driving lessons I was successfully able to pass my driving test with an 80+. Mr Mike offers a lot of advice and tips on what’s to expect for getting your license. Expensive but very educational.
Negative experience: First let me say that we had used another service prior to Mr. Mikes and the only reason we switched is because they did not provide the actual driving exam. Mr. Mike's did not provide a receipt/change for $100 cash payment that was made at the first lesson, and later charged me again $150 without receipt for a lesson and exam. He was just unprofessional to deal with, a complete joke. Didn't show up for an apt. and when I texted him that morning he didn't reply until that evening. If you have a business where monies are exchanged - you provide the customer with a receipt and if you make an apt you keep it, or have the courtesy to cancel it. Completely distasteful behavior, unprofessional, and just a complete horrific experience. I had to keep calling and texting to get him to reply.
