Drive With Cops

Negative experience: I saw the introduction of this school on the Internet, and I wholeheartedly sent my children to this school to learn driving. I arrived here at 8:25 this morning. Google Maps showed that the school was open from 8:00 to 18:00, but the door was locked and not open. I could only call to find out. A lady answered the phone. I told her that I wanted to enroll my 18-year-old and 15-year-old children for driving lessons. My children have passed the written test at the DMV and obtained driver's licenses. She asked me if my children can drive? I answered, "The children don't know how to drive, but they know how to operate the car. They can learn by watching me drive. They can tell the functions of the car operating parts, but I don't dare to let the children drive directly, so I want to send the children to this school to learn how to drive." I expressed so sincerely, I didn't expect the lady to answer me like this. She said, "You have to teach your children how to operate a car and practice on the road for ten hours before sending them to school to learn." I saw the brake pedal and the gas pedal in the passenger seat of the teaching car at the school gate, so I asked her: "Don't the children come to school to learn how to drive, use your school's safe car to learn how to drive, and then I use my car to accompany them to practice for more than 30 hours? Is that right?" She answered me that it was not, and she wanted me to teach the children how to drive before sending them to school. This answer confused me. If I taught the children to drive, why did they come to school to learn? She said that the online course and driving practice only took six hours in total. I saw the 30-hour online course recommended by the Iowa DMV at AAAA, and you can sign up for it online. As for how the children learn to get a driver's license, I was conflicted after talking to this lady.

Fantastic experience: My oldest daughter just completed the Winter course and loved it. With both classroom time and drive times, the program covers great, real-world material to prepare our young drivers to be defensive and cautious on the road. Instructors were personable, approachable, and funny, making the classroom interactive, enjoyable, and relatable. Scheduling was tricky since the session started over Christmas and New Year’s break, but the flexibility and dedication by Terry was fantastic to get the group through it successfully. As a parent, the communication by the administration of the program was responsive and thorough in replies, making sure parents understood and stayed informed along the way. 10/10, would absolutely recommend to parents of new drivers!!

Negative experience: Never heard of Drive With Cops till this evening. Trucker here traveling east just before Clive. I was going the speed limit and had a car just barely making their way down the side of me. Looked down to see the name and realized a cop is teaching the students to speed, hangout beside a truck for long periods of time, then gave me 2-3 car lengths of following distance to immediately slow down and catch the next exit. There is not one thing in those actions I would want a young student driver learning. Teach them right and maybe the roadways wouldn’t be such a dangerous place. Thanks DWC-5 appreciate you!

Fantastic experience: no doubt this is the best place for your kids to learn how to drive. safety is most important here.

Fantastic experience: We could not be more pleased with the experience our child had at Drive with Cops! Our child has some emotional and learning challenges and did struggle a couple times during class, but they worked with him, did not make him feel bad or less than, and ultimately helped him to be successful in the class. Communication is outstanding. Terry is so kind, helpful, and very patient with parents who are not from Iowa and do not understand the weird rules for getting your license here. :) You do have to book the class early because they fill up FAST (for good reason). We booked almost a year in advance, and it was worth every penny!!

Positive experience: Overall was a pretty good class for my son. They did provide a good base to start from which is what I wanted for him so I could build from there. Do wish they would have been more challenged in driving situations and did seem to play it safe in everything, including the final exam as I was told by him that it was just a drive around the block more less. But maybe each instructor does it different. Also no simulators were used as I read that they would be. Just classroom and driving. But like I said I was happy he got a good foundation for me to build on for him.

Fantastic experience: This was an excellent program! The instructors/officers were kind and helped my teens feel safe as they learned the ins and outs of driving, and they felt like they received a fantastic driver's education in the classroom and on the road. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I am so impressed with our experiance with DWC. Terry was so kind and wonderful to work with. My son loved the instrictor's and enjoyed every class. He looked forward to going and always had great things to tell me he learned each day. Thank you so much to all of you at Drive With Cops! We appreciate you!

Fantastic experience: Love, love, LOVE Drive with Cops!! We live in Ankeny and the program was well worth the drive to Urbandale. My daughter is very high functioning autistic...they were phenomenal with her-so patient and thorough. I saw her confidence build right away. I also really liked how specific Ms. Terry was at the front office with the instructions on how to get the next step permit/license (eg-school permit). They cover all of that with the parents at the last day of class, but having the emails handy was great! Can't recommend enough!!!

Fantastic experience: I took the one on one driving lessons for adults. I had a great experience with them. Would definitely recommend to other adults who are looking to get their drivers license.

Negative experience: My daughter graduated from both Drive With Cops and then later Street Smarts (Roosevelt HS location in Des Moines). She definitely preferred Street Smarts! Both schools had nice, patient instructors but the biggest difference between the two was the drive time experience. Drive with Cops never challenged her on the drives. They didn’t take her on the interstate or downtown (she was more than ready for it, mature & confident). For some reason the instructor played it safe and most the drives were basic roads and parking lots! When I emailed Drive with Cops at the halfway point to express my concern about the lack of different driving situations for her drive time, they said they don't go downtown and as far as interstate driving that it's up to each officers discretion. So needless to say, after she graduated there, I just felt more comfortable if she also did another school. Street Smarts was very, very thorough. You really felt like you got your moneys worth and that your kid got the most experience possible. They had a lot of checkboxes to mark off and my daughter was downtown and on the interstate for most of her drives. I really felt like as a parent, Street Smarts prepared my daughter better and gave her way more experiences..

Positive experience: Great time had a good cop teaching. would suggest having prior knowledge (a decent amount) but all in all good place

Fantastic experience: my daughter did street smarts and I was not impressed. after her head on collision I enrolled her into drive with cops and I am amazed at the difference! she drives all over in her own car and to know she can change a tire (I don't even know how to do that lol) makes me feel even better knowing she was taught by this program. many thanks!

Fantastic experience: This place can turn ANYONE from a person who doesn't know how to drive into a seasoned driver. The officer that was with me engaged in the learning process perfectly. Let's you know the tools and tricks to driving. The officer was patient, precistant and kept communication strong. I couldn't of made a better choice for a drivers teacher. I strongly recommend people start with this bizness!

Fantastic experience: Everyone is so nice here! They keep it fun and interesting by teaching us how to drive and the rules of the road through story telling and experience. Drive With Cops is so much fun, and I recommend it over all other drivers ed programs. The drivers and classroom teachers are all very nice and fun, I cannot stress that enough!

Fantastic experience: My 16-year-old son just completed drivers ed at Drive with Cops. They do a fantastic job with kiddos on the autism spectrum. They were very welcoming, took time to talk over my concerns, provided advice and updates, and even gave me a tour before we signed up. Many of the instructors are in law enforcement, and my son really enjoyed the program. I would give this program 20 stars if I could. The owners care deeply about the program and are doing this for all the right reasons.

Fantastic experience: This program is amazing for any driver of any age or experience level! The people from the front desk to the instructors are so personable and really know how to make you become a better, safer driver. They took our novice son with a traumatic traffic experience into a confident, safe driver in just 6 short weeks! Don't waste your money on any other driver's education program than Drive With Cops! This was so worth every penny!!!!
