CDL Licensing
Professional Driver Institute: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Although it definitely took a lot longer than 5 weeks to get through the process of obtaining a CDL license, and the trucks were continuously breaking down, the school is definitely worth joining for anyone who wants to get a CDL at a cheap price. Most of the issues within the company lie at the corporate level, the instructors who worked there are a fun bunch. Eric was a great advocate for students, always helping out when we were in need. Henry can be a little tough with his instruction, but don't take it personally. He's firm because he wants you to do well. Thank you to Gary and everyone else for the help, I'm thankful for having been able to learn at this school!
Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars I would, worst company to go through. Zero communication. And they say 4 weeks but it's been 4 months and still don't have a license. DO NOT use this company.
Negative experience: Horrible, horrible horrible experience. All the trucks are either breaking down. There’s only two manual one automatic they push people to go into the classroom. It’ll be 10 students for one truck the two trainers they’ll record and then have you basically learn off of other students and learn by yourself this place loves to take your money And try to force you to take your CDL road test when you’re not even prepared at all throughout that eight hours of the day that you’re there you only touch the truck maybe 4 times. Please don’t waste your money going into the school and don’t even use the grants as well if they even offer a grant It is a waste All they care about is the money all they care about is money
Negative experience: Made me sad. Saw friend get depression from this school.
Negative experience: This school is practically a scam! Save your time and money. They lie about your timeline and their trucks are junk. Worst experience I’ve ever had with a company!!!
Negative experience: Stop wasting your time and money at this school they do not provide training in timeline and make excuses to all new students if you want I can show proof of there bad service and unprofessional attitude towards students I wish there was zero star option I would give them
Negative experience: If you like your time And Money Played with This Is the school for you! 2/10 Do not recommend at all.
Fantastic experience: Kelly was the best! She was the reason I joined this trucking school.
Fantastic experience: Ms. Kelly Mr.Henry Mr.scott Mr.Eric Mr. Rick I want to thank you all for having me as your student I passed my CDL class A no restrictions thanks to yall if it wasn’t for you guys i probably wouldn’t have did it you guys where outstanding great and most importantly kind and caring people thank you all you guys deserve more than 5 stars reviews
Fantastic experience: If you want to learn how to drive the big rigs this is the place. Trained on 10 speed manual transmission or automatic your preference. The instructors here are very knowledgeable with experience over the road for many years Secretary always prompt and organization was on point. I had a great time there enjoyed attending every day had a-lot of laughs it was a great learning experience Thank you everyone at 160 on Scottsville Rd
Positive experience: Wanna thank everyone at the 160 driving academy! It wasn’t a perfect experience with trucks having issues so I wasn’t really able to train with the manual as much so I went automatic just to get my cdl but that’s the trucking life and that shows how important it’s is to pre trip because anything can happen. Thanks to everyone I’ll definitely come visit!
Positive experience: At first I couldn’t recommend this school to anyone because of how unorganized it was. But towards the end of my school they cleaned it up a lot. Be patient with them they just bought out PDI so they are trying to find a system that works and is approved with corporate. If you already have a permit it will cost you $4075 for school (class A). Just like with any school the instructors can’t force you to learn. You need to apply yourself, ask questions, practice, and don’t be afraid to speak up if you are not getting enough training in a certain area. All in all by the end of school it will be an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. Thank you Henry, Steve, Lewis, Scott, Rick God bless you all
Fantastic experience: So I went to school here earlier in the yr. I passed, they're great, tough love man, but outstanding if you listen and you try, you will pass. Its not on them to just train you, you also have to put the work into wanting to pass, Mr Henry was my fav, outstanding trainer. Mr Scott was great as well and Mr Rick hes a ball of fun. I thank you all. The ladies in the office are bubbly and kind, you put in the work and want to pass these guys will not give up on you, thank you all♡♡♡
Negative experience: It is no suprise that the PDI only gets 3.8 rating in reviews. I called this company to get information about its CDL program. A lady I spoke with refused to tell me how much it is going to cost me for the program unless I meet her in person and collect all sensitive information about me. She is trying to keep what is supposed to be public information private. Hhmm. This sour experience with the PDI pushed me away from dealing with this company. Takeaway: Try to find a better place to spend your money.
Good Afternoon. Thank you for sharing your experience. It was never our intention to make a prospect feel as though we are being intrusive. We always encourage potential students to schedule appointments with our Admissions team to go over our course catalog in detail, as the financing options are not part of the catalog. Tuition prices range from $4295-$9595. During our meetings, we spend about 30 minutes discussing the different courses we offer, job placement, and how to best assist with paying for the courses. If you are unable to come in for an information session, the school will gladly send out a copy of our school catalog.
Please feel free to reach out to our General Manager, Kelly Phalen at [email protected] if you have additional questions or concerns.
Negative experience: My experience was honestly horrible and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. After spending the money to go to a school that only gives you 3 opportunities to get it right, if not your on your own, because you can’t use their trucks again. There’s no love or care after the 3rd time failing. Now I agree, I signed up and agreed to the terms but the only thing I have left to pass is the road test and they can’t even honor that I made it that far or give me the opportunity to pay them, more than what they asked, to reuse their truck for the test and they said no. Please look at other schools, this not a place for you if you have no trucking experience or have doubts because they don’t care about you after your 3rd fail, they already got what they wanted from you.
Hi Carlos. Unfortunately, we have to have to have a cut off point for those who do not pass the road test. It is always our aim that students will complete within that timeframe, and we do our best to schedule extra training to ensure we've given student's every opportunity to be successful. We do offer advice on alternative options to those who wish to continue to pursue the CDL after their file has been closed out with PDI. If you wish to explore those options, please call the school to speak with the General Manager or Director of Training.
Negative experience: 4300 dollars just for a class B license with no job assistance. Doesn't include anything but your training. They want more for the book you need for the class and also the cost for everything you need to get your license. All the dmv fees are extra. Plus when you tell them you only need the behind the heel training cause you already have the certificate for the theory part, they say you have to take it anyway. Highway robbery at its finest. No wonder why there is a shortage for truck drivers. Nobody can afford the license.
We appreciate your input. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer behind the wheel training without including the Entry Level Driver Training in the classroom & field. Our CDL A & B programs are setup to follow the curriculum required by the FMCSA. Hopefully, in the future we will be able to offer customized training for those seeking a CDL.
Our tuition ranges between $4295-$9595 depending on the program. We do our best to assist potential students in finding funding sources to help with rising tuition costs. There are various state & local agencies that offer training grant opportunities.
If you would like to learn more, or wish to discuss this further, we encourage you to reach out to our General Manager at 585-293-1203 x 101. Have a wonderful day, and thank you again for sharing your feedback.
Positive experience: Louis the best trainer! Pdi should give him a raise

Fantastic experience: All the people is good moor respect I get my CDL-A on 2016
Thank you for the review, Omar. We hope your doing well in your career as a driver. Safe travels, have a wonderful weekend!
Positive experience: The only person that's not there for the money is Lewis he is the back up guru and wants you to win. Rick is the funniest, good teacher. Mr.Henry teaching style is the dad that tells you don't put your hand on the stove or you'll get burned and when you do it he'll say now do something different to get different results. Rob is the most laid back teacher he teaches offset simply. Doug is great at teaching shift pattern. Tara and Kelly are always happy which makes you happy.
Congratulations on passing your road test! Thank you for the review--- let us know where you land, and safe travels out there on the road!
Fantastic experience: When to get a custom fit hose. The staff did some creative thinking on how to make what I had work. They solved the problem and refused to accept any other than a "Thank You". Great place.Their shop is open to the customers view. No mystery in what they do. Staff is GREAT.. John
Fantastic experience: Wow! I take my hat off to those who steer these big wheelers! I’m here just trying to get my license I stopped driving years & years ago so it’s time I get back on the road. My adult children said so too…. I need a patient instructor not for a big wheeler though. If there are anyone out there willing to help this middle age women get back on the road please respond ASAP I would greatly appreciate driving lessons. I’m in Greece area
Good Morning! Unfortunately, our school only offers Commercial Driver Training. I'd recommend looking into Allwright School of Driving, located on Mt. Hope. Best of luck to you!
Positive experience: There's knowledge here. They let you use the trucks for road test. Jamar, Scott and Luis are the professionals. Rick and Caryanne are fun and have real world knowledge they like to pass on. Word of advice, do NOT let any of the instructors abuse you. If you make mistakes, some will scream, curse and call you names on the road, if you mistake in the yard, those same bad ones will just ignore you. I strongly suggest doing whatever transmission type the majority of the class is doing. You'll get a bigger chance of taking the same truck to the test that you've practiced in. There are gaps in knowledge and misinformation, but I heard they are getting actual instruction books so that should help a LOT. Final advice, balance what you being taught with lots of YouTube videos.
Hi AJ, I appreciate your feedback regarding your experience at the school. While we expect that all of our students will receive the same quality of training, we acknowledge your comments above & recognize there is room for improvement. Our students remain our top priority & their success (or failure) is a direct reflection of our Training. We hope that some of the recent changes we've made to our Program will help streamline some of the concerns you mentioned. If you wish to discuss your training and/or experience further, please reach out to our Director of Training, Scott Walker or General Manager, Kelly Phalen at 585-293-1203, for resolution. Thank you again, and we wish you the best in your driving career.
Fantastic experience: I recommend this school to anyone, if you wanna know what is friendly environment means attend this school every instructors here are professionals. Remember guys those who always complain about a school they are the people who don’t wanna make progress for themselves, If you pay attention to what they teach you, Nobody is gonna complain. My experience at PDI was 100/100 Deadpool.
Congratulations on getting your CDL! The instructors & staff wish you the best---stop in whenever you are in the area. :)
Fantastic experience: They really do know how to help people achieve their goals
Hi Eddie! I'm glad you had a great experience with the school.
Fantastic experience: I Had a very Positive experience, the instructors here are Firm, helpful and make sure you understand everything. I recommend to anyone who wants to get in the trucking industry this is the place to go! Many thanks to PDI instructors Bobbi, Doug, Jeff and Henry.
Thank you for taking the time to review our school. We wish you the best of luck in your career as a truck driver. Let us know if you should need placement assistance in the future. Safe travels!
Fantastic experience: Setting me up for a a good future
We look forward to seeing you in class!
Negative experience: Only office team know what they doing all instructors are really mean and rude they treat you like you owe them . I had horrible experience at this school I would never recommend to anyone too bad is because is the only option in Rochester area
We are sorry to hear you had a bad experience with your trainers. The office staff would be more than happy to address any issues or concerns you have had. Please reach out to us at anytime. As always, we wish you the best in all your future endeavors!
Negative experience: I attended a couple of driving schools before coming to PDI. I came to PDI to get a CDL A and train to get the HazMat endorsement. What I got was only 2 weeks training in the A class before being put in the B class. When I got moved out of class A to B, I was told by the training director that I would be put right back into the A class, after completing the B class. I got my CDL B. The next day, I was informed that PDI will not be training me any further. I am still trying to find a job that will make use of my CDL B. Scott and Bradley were two of the best trainers this school has to offer; unlike some other trainers here, they don't yell and curse at you if you don't understand something completely.
Fantastic experience: PDI was an amazing experience while attending as a student. The instructors were real people, they didn't sugarcoat things and they made sure you understood that if you were a safety issue to yourself or other people on the road, they wouldn't hesitate to get you out of that drivers seat. As long as you want to succeed they will do everything in their power to help you accomplish that. If you listen to what the instructors and staff are teaching you then you will be confident enough to get and keep the wheels rolling. They give you numerous gems and tricks of the trade which will help you stand out anywhere you step foot in from their school moving forward. If I ever need a refresher or decide to learn the mechanics side of the industry I will most definitely be heading back as I know I will get everything I need in order to succeed! Thanks to everyone at PDI, from the office staff to the in class, and on the road instructors!
Fantastic experience: I have nothing but great things to say about this company. The instructors are helpful, knowledgable, and care about their students success. They lead by example and on many occassions i was in a warm cab while they were dealing with the elements outside supervising and giving me instruction. The school administration was very supportive and worked with me to get my CDL A. I highly recommend and had a lot of fun.
Fantastic experience: It's a short program to help you start a great career, and like anything else you get out of it what you put in! Thank you to all the staff
Fantastic experience: Xm
