Nova Driving School is one of the most reputable driving schools in the Chicagoland area. We offer a variety of classes to serve our community. Since 2003 we have expanded to 4 locations within Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, Hyde Park, Little Village and Evanston. Nova Driving School offers programs for teens and adults including preparation for written exam and road test. Continuing education programs such as Class C-Non CDL, Motorcycle, Defensive Driving Courses and much more.

Positive experience: As a completely new driver, I passed my road test on the first attempt, and I couldn't be happier. Customer Service The staff is helpful and maintains a positive attitude. Instructor Experience I first registered for 6 driving lessons (12 hours in total) for around $800. My initial 4 lessons were with Instructor Marq M, followed by 2 lessons with another instructor. Afterward, I decided to book an additional 2 lessons (4 hours) for $240 and specifically requested Marq M again. I am extremely satisfied with my experience with Marq M. He is a fantastic instructor who builds a strong foundation and offers practical driving knowledge. His tips for new drivers like me were invaluable. I genuinely believe that if I had taken all my initial lessons with Marq M, I wouldn’t have needed to book the extra lessons! On the day of my road test, I had a 30-minute practice session with Instructor Xavier. I highly recommend booking a session with him before your road test. His insights and tips for driving on the street were incredibly helpful. Overall, I highly recommend Nova Driving School, especially if you have the chance to learn from Marq M and Xavier. Their expertise and support made all the difference in my driving journey!
Fantastic experience: Hello today I have my behind the wheel lesson with Driving instructor Marq M. Great instructor. He take the time to explain to his student before starting the lesson. He make sure that his student understand the concept before starting the lesson. Really love teaching. He was patient. When give the lesson. The lesson was really good.

Fantastic experience: Nicole at Nova has been truly amazing. As an adult new driver, I had no idea what I’d need to do or get in order to start driving, and she walked me through everything. Negative experience: I had a great experience with Instructor Marq M (only had him for two lessons), the other two instructors I had were not patient enough to help me with my fear of driving. Felt like the lessons were too short and the time were not used efficiently cuz why am I being drop 20 min early? Overall good customer service.

Negative experience: TLDR. Their “driving test passing rate” is a scam. They won’t allow you to take the test if they’re unhappy even if you have completed all lessons you paid for. RIP my $705 (which now has inflated to $770) The “professional” instructor kept chattering and overwhelming my ears with what I already know, “turn your wheel”, “slow down”, which was more than distracting. Even if I was slowing down he kept saying “slowing down” and then blame me for slowing too much: “do not stop.” He could say“stop”and “go” within one second and ordering me to do 5 things in 10 seconds, and kept emphasizing “you needed to multitask”, “react in time” when I was having a hard time. Dude, this won’t work. You cannot magically force people to be smart… No encouragement, no affirmations. Just it seemed everything I did was wrong, which made me more and more stressful. Finally he shamed me with “you should go back to parking lot” without noticing what he had done (when I was driving much worse no instructors ever shamed me with that). Won’t recommend for people with driving anxiety.

Driving safely does require the ability to multitask—processing multiple inputs at once, making quick decisions, and responding appropriately in real-time. Our instructors are trained to help students develop those essential skills through guided practice and real-time corrections.
Regarding road test eligibility: while completing all scheduled lessons is a great milestone, it doesn’t always mean a student is ready for the test. If an instructor feels a student needs more time to master certain skills—especially multitasking, hazard awareness, or decision-making under pressure—they may recommend additional lessons. This isn’t meant as a barrier, but as a way to ensure every student is fully prepared to pass confidently and, more importantly, to drive safely afterward.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with instructor Marq M. He was patient and instructed very well. I was nervous and it took me a while to get behind the wheel but he was professional and detailed! Definitely recommend him for new drivers to learn how to drive.

Fantastic experience: I wanted to do driving lessons because I wanted to get back to driving. I am an anxious adult driver with a driving license. I was not sure if I would be able to find a driving school that would fit my situation. Fortunately, I found Nova! I got in touch with their office via email and discussed my situation with Betza, who has been super helpful, patient, and understanding. Then I booked my first few lessons with the driving instructor Marq, who works at the Oak Park location. I have had two lessons so far, and the experience has been great! I feel better about driving now. Marq is really friendly and patient, he explains everything really well and provides solid moral support for an anxious driver like myself. And he is also a great and very careful driver himself. I am very grateful to Nova school, especially to Betza and Marq, for their kindness and help!

Negative experience: My child fail on his first try. He asked the instructor can we go again. Nova wanted another $175 to take him try again. I feel they didn’t teach him what I sent him there for. He knew how to drive. However, when he would his permit practice driving he would turn very wide. I decided to send him here to “professionals”to learn how to be a better driver. Also because he was turning too wide. My son still doesn’t have his license because I’m not able to take him. The day of the road test, He got nervous. He said that he had two instructors in the car and he fail because of a wide turn. He had (2) two hour lessons. I feel they should told me he wasn’t ready to take the test. I feel what a waste 4 hours of driving and what a waste of $330. The instructor was a nice person. It just hate the policy. So, if you fail be prepared to pay more money if you need another try. The permit gives you 3 times to fail. Why should nova charge more.

Fantastic experience: I have always been terrified of driving, especially in Chicago-area traffic. After earning my license ten years ago (also through Nova!), I ended up moving closer to reliable public transit and had no reason to keep driving. As my skills faded, my fears expanded. But I can no longer avoid driving, so I was thrilled to learn of the Nova location in Oak Park. Since I already trusted Nova's process, I selected an instructor randomly. Marq was a calm, kind, encouraging instructor every step of the way. He offered excellent advice on navigating, turning, and parking, and most importantly, he never made me feel stupid or ashamed. I never thought I'd say this, but I am excited to keep driving from now on. Thank you, Nova and especially Marq!

Fantastic experience: I am incredibly pleased with the remarkable services from Nova's Driving School. I am 24 years old and today I finally got my license on the first try. I was in a tragic accident where I was hit by a car and suffer from PTSD. I was too afraid to ever get my license. My instructor Herbert, gave me the courage and strength to reach my full potential. He is an exceptional teacher and leader. He truly cares about the well being of his students. I never in my life would have imagined I would be here today saying I have my driver's license. Negative experience: Technically i didn't use them. However, I just had one of their cars buzz past me as a pedestrian crossing N. Oakpark Ave at a yellow flashing crosswalk. Luckily, I was paying attention. Who ever was driving, sped up to get through before me, already halfway across. About 5:30 pm, if you care.
