Fantastic experience: All the instructors are pretty cool that I had to deal with was awesome JP,DENNY I feel like if they can teach me, they can teach anyone all four have very different ways of teaching so something stuck from each of them for me but ultimately they all really seem to want the best for you and seem to really care about the progress you are making they definitely give you every tool you need to pass on the other side. It’s up to you to use it if I had to come to the same school again with the same crew I would.

Fantastic experience: Started the class not knowing how to drive a manual as most people there do. By the third week I had it down! All the instructors (Denny, Brad, JP, and Debbie) were awesome! Come there with a good attitude and a willingness to learn and you will do great. Couldn’t complain about the class at all. They offer grants and loans for the program so don’t be discouraged by the price. Overall I had a great experience with everyone and passed the cdl exam my first try. I owe my success to my instructors and my want to succeed. Thank you OBC for the opportunity!

Negative experience: Quite honestly would not recommend the electrical program of this school to anyone near me. While most of the staff was very kind and helpful, i truthfully only credit my knowledge i learned from the one instructor who actually cared about his students. Who does not work there anymore because the staff took him for granted and treated him very poorly. i feel like no one in the administration really knew anything about the schooling aspect of things, especially the school director. We were promised so many hours in “labs” but were never given the proper tools to perform said labs. There was never wire, devices, or anything of the sort. For the last quarter i literally sat in the class with other students not learning anything. The book work we were told wouldn’t apply to anything outside of the school but we still had to pay for the books. The school director on many occasions had students teaching classes and labs that they were not qualified to teach. As of right now there is a student currently employed to teach his own class without even having the degree yet. There was one instance while also working there as a federal aid student where i was told by the school director Scott that i needed to strip wire to have money for our graduation. How come we pay $16k for these classes and we had no money for our graduation?? but i digress. I ended up stripping wire for maybe 2-3 months in hopes to make the money for a proper graduation for me and my classmates. I went with the sell the scrap stripped wire, i knew exactly how much we made in money for said wire. The graduation was an utter failure, even though administrators knew the day of said graduation. They barely had enough seating for family and friends, They brought food… it was maybe three platers from walmart of maybe 4-6 sliders on each platter… We had maybe 60-80 friends and family join the graduation. I was also expected to work up until my graduation time. Also was expected to get everything prepared for MY GRADUATION. There was many problems with this program and frankly i believe it should be shut down. There were many OSHA violations even though you do get osha certified it’s embarrassing. If you are looking to starting a career in electrical work, join the union. you can join with little to no knowledge. This school is not worth the money, time, or effort. It’s a Scam! please i beg you never join the program.

Positive experience: Took CDL class! They had good instructors! Especially Kim! If you take this course and have any issues with maneuvers get Kim, she will have you right so fast. Driving get with Jp.. he is the real deal, keeps everything calm and guides you through it even when you stress.

Fantastic experience: Due to work obligations I needed to obtain a Class A CDL, otherwise my livelihood would be affected. So it goes without saying I NEEDED this to happen in order to support my family. This school, staff and especially a one Denny Volz made my goals come to fruition. They were always patient, ready to answer questions and willing to work extra if needed. I cannot thank the staff at this school enough!

Negative experience: I would not recommend coming to this school for your CDL, especially if you are gonna do weekend classes. Go with Clark state trucking school or Napier trucking school. I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL.

Negative experience: Rip off!! I was taking electrical program here and shits not cheap $16,650 or something. Don't fall fir it. They don't teach anything. I went there with basic electrical skills and they thought us whatever i knew, how to use pliers, how connect outlets. Everyone should know all that before you even go there. I wasn’t learning anything knew so i quit going, and now they want me to pay the 16k because they showed me how to use pliers and screw drivers. Plus they don't even give you a electrical license for the money you spent. Just don’t waste your money going here.

Fantastic experience: I took the weekend course with JP and Steve. They are both fantastic instructors who give you the skills that you need to pass your CDL test. They will not hold your hand and make sure that you are listening, doing exactly what you’ve been told, or make sure you show up on time ready to learn. If you take a little of initiative you will do very well in their system. The school has plenty of trucks on the range and you’re never standing around waiting on a truck to practice in. They choose great routes to practice over the road with plenty of traffic, hills, turns and other technicalities. I will recommend this school to anyone looking for training!

Cory Barney 1 year ago

Negative experience: So here’s an honest review of the OBC CDL program, Positive- They gave me the tools to pass my CDL road exam on the first shot. The range instructors (Steve & JP) were great. Very knowledgeable and helpful. They will give you what you put in. You come in eager to learn and improve, they will help you all day long, with more patience than expected. You pay for 2 test attempts, which include use of the truck and a test examiner at the school. Also helps that the weekend class may have used the official test side and road course. I had experience driving trucks and was cleared to test at the bear minimum hour requirement. Negative- What you pay for is not what you get. The building is what you’d expect. No frills, no real amenities. You have a classroom, bathroom, a microwave, a fridge with something growling in it, and an overly moldy coffee pot. There were more times than not where we couldn’t go on the road because the trucks were broke down. Apparently the school bean counters let the mechanic go because they couldn’t afford him. Makes sense right? The 40 hours of classroom lecture is nothing but death by PowerPoint. Bring coffee and patience. It’s easy, if you can read, you’re fine. You’ll get what you put in this class. You come ready to go, you’ll be fine. You show up late, don’t pay attention, or follow instruction, you will not pass. Simple as that. All in all, I paid some money, showed up to class, did what I was supposed to do, and was successful, but if you have an option to go to Napier, Clark State, or somewhere more reputable, I’d do that.

Fantastic experience: I met Terry working for another testing place and he always did the right thing. He was also a state inspector. Dude knows his stuff. He ain’t gona give you anything but if you do what you are supposed to do you will pass he is not one of them that fail you to get you to comeback and you. Any ask for more than that. I have got 65 people their cdl in the last 5 years and highly recommend this place

Fantastic experience: I attended in 2021 and had a very good experience in the CDL course. The best part about this school is the people that run it. They care about your success.

Fantastic experience: This is a great school very professional and thr instructors all have a lot of knowledge. This school is not going to be just a walk in the park. If you think you can just come and go when you want and stand around and talk all day and not pay attention. YOU WON'T PASS. But if you come in and focus and study like you should you will pass. Yes classes can be big but it's not to big where you can't pass.

Fantastic experience: The program is designed for success. The office staff are great and the instructors are extremely knowledgeable. Jimmy, Rick, Rod, Mike, Harold, Travis, and Oden, thank you for all the wisdom you have and share with us, the students. I look forward to my new career as a truck driver. Thank you

johnathon hatton 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: Prior to starting I seen some of the negative reviews so I was sceptical at first. However they were extremely close so I chose them anyways. I recently graduated and passed my state test on my first attempt. I have to believe that the people saying it's terrible just did not apply themselves. All of the instructors I had while attending answered any and all questions I had. Trust me it was a lot. Mike, Rodney, Harold and Shelly gave me more than enough help and training needed to pass my test. Harold was the only one I trained with on the road, he was calm and helped me improve on anything I was making mistakes on. After I became more comfortable and asked for more challenging practice he was more than willing to let me try things to make sure I became comfortable behind the wheel. This school was amazing and I highly recommend it. Also want to acknowledge how helpful the ladies in the office were with any questions I had thought the process. I'm sure Lori has plenty of things to do but she always stopped and helped me right away. I cannot stress this enough though if you are not serious about making this a career and do not want to put in real effort then don't attend because this is not the career for you.

Positive experience: Instructors are helpful and attentive. They are patient and work with you. I started off doing weekend classes, but had to switch to week day classes. They helped me get thru this transition. The instructors Rodney, Mike, Shelley and Harold are the BOMB. They had stern words; BUT , were always there and patient. Good people. Much thanks to Loru and Jimmy for helping me get thru the transition.

Fantastic experience: First of all I just want to say that driving a truck is not like mathematics. You can’t show someone the formula and teach them the steps. Each time you set up your trailer theirs going to be a different solution to get your maneuver accomplished. When it comes to driving a truck you have to have a sharp mind and the ability to read your trailer. Not any one truck drives the same. I graduated from this school, and took my test their for the state. I did exceptionally well... not because of the instructors but because I had what it took to learn the basic fundamentals. If you always expect someone to do things for you and always find a reason to point the finger then you will always get what you have always got. Don’t blame people for your inabilities to learn a challenging skill. Yes it is expensive, yes it is a real challenge, however if your have acquired the mindset to achieve what you set out to do then your cdl will pay for themselves. Furthermore it’s No ones responsibility to find you a job. You should have the mental compass of being able to do that for yourself. If you have a cdl and not a job... well that’s your fault. Don’t blame others for your lack of comprehension or laziness.... not everyone is meant to drive a truck... and maybe if you don’t after trying and finding failure, maybe you should think of a different career.... I know warehouses need forklift drivers.... I’d like to be unloaded and reloaded in a decent time. Thank you obc for allowing me to learn this trade!

Fantastic experience: I just passed my CDL exam!! Thanks god, thank you so much to the office stuff Stephanie&Laurie they were Awesome and professional, I would like to thank also my Amazing instructors: Mike, Harold and the lead manager jimmy they really have been he skills and listen to their students, if you have any concerns tell jimmy and he will do his best , he is a good listener what I liked the most about him, again thank you Guys . Ps: I drove 67 miles daily back and forth just because-of the way Stephanie treated me the first day , I said I will go with them no matter what.

Donna Perkins 6 years ago

Negative experience: I now know why this school gets bad reviews. If you fail your 1st time they make you pay again for test then dont get you a test date for over a month and wont let you practice the maneuvers. I believe like someone else stated they are only after your money. Want your class A go to a real trucking company and have them teach you at least you will pass and have a job.unlike OBC they take your money and let you fail. I attended the weekend classes. The instructors were great. I had Rodney in class room and out on pad. Class room was little boring but what class room is not lol. Rodney was very helpful on the pad. You ask him a question he helped you. He would ask you questions so you could also figure out on your own what to do. I also had Mike on the pad. He was also very good. If ypu ask for help they will help you. If you dont ask they let u try to figure it out on your own. Tim took me on the road. Awesome instructor. He stayed so calm while i drove and when i could not get it into gear he helped. I was scared my first couple times but Tim stayed so calm and talked me though everything i needed to you.

Derrick Smith 6 years ago

Negative experience: Well the only reason why I give it 2 stars is because you can get your cdl (barley) ..well the first week you just sit in the class room doing nothing until like Wednesday the trainer gives you paper to study (general knowledge, air breaks, combination, hazmat, and triples and doubles) even if you don’t want the endorsements you need to know the information to pass the class(I feel it’s not fair) and to top it off I paid over 5000$ and all the instructors including jimmy said “buy a plunger and pop bottle to practice” on shifting and clutch. After the class room they take forever for us to go out and practice on the maneuvers. They take their sweet time on trains you but rush you on everything. They didn’t even teach us how to unhook and drop. (Unbelievable) they could have atleast let people practice in the yard first (on shifting) then just throwing us out on the road! But big thanx to a trainer named Harold! (You rock bro) he truly knows how to work with students and teach very good. I think he should run the place!

Emile MUTABAZI 6 years ago

Positive experience: For my experience I studied in that school on weekend program, for almost 3 months but I used to get my CDL in six months. Really among many trainers I appreciated two trainers BOB and WILLY they coached me and helped me in my difficult way. I remember when they fixed me the test date I didn't know even if the key of setting up my truck. I failed many times and I used to get the extra training in other school located in Springfield and I used to pay the extra money $ 300 a day. So after I passed and get my CDL. As my recommendations, in order to be successful they have to follow closery their trainers and also they have to change their old equipments.

Negative experience: the biggest mistake in my life I did I learn my cdl in this college like Mike push students to quite special Africans he treats under 0% unprofessional and Jim tray to call me police cous I had argue with Mike and tray to leave school also to pay loan but this no going happen I didn't gave them chance first week they waste our time and money because they don't teach nothing except recruiters advertising under our time and money 3 weeks they provide only trucks better to learn from you tube like Mike out there get student temper by mocking the all day he stands and watch until you do mistakes than instead teach how to correct mistake he joke and mok but like Bob she is the best teacher ,team is also not bad, wheels friendly but don't ask questions if do becarfull he yael scream at students the main thing old trucks 60-70 years old because of this old trucks I have pain on my knees guys watch out before signing to this school don't do mistake like I did I recommend find better school like NEPRAK Springfield cdl school .

Steven Tyler 7 years ago

Negative experience: Rip off!!!! Your first week you will sit in a classroom and learn absolutely nothing then they will harp on you about getting your temps I already had my temps when I start of the school. The school cost $5200 to attend to for four weeks and the $5200 includes your hazmat your doubles triples tankers background check all that stuff but if you already have your temps before you go they will keep your money and not reimburse you be very careful when going to the school or does not guarantee that you get your CDL and if you take your CDL test at the school it will cost you a lot more money that will to go anywhere else!

OBC - Truck Driving & Electrician Program
OBC - Truck Driving & Electrician Program

Steven, We are sorry you feel this way about your training. We would like to try and respond to each of your concerns.
First off, kudos to you if you did get your permit before you started class – you were prepared; however, we do continuously bring up the need for students to get their permit because we have students who begin the classroom who have not obtained their permit. If an individual goes and gets their permit and pays for it, the student can bring in the receipt and they will be reimbursed.
The tuition does include the cost to take the required permit test, it doesn’t include endorsements except for the haz-mat endorsement. We will assist current students in getting their haz-mat endorsement while in school but once the student has completed the training and graduated this would be up to the individual to get on their own. We do address this in the student orientation.
Also, we cannot guarantee anyone will pass their CDL test, what we can do is provide students the training and tools needed to be able to successfully pass the CDL test
We are a third party CDL test center and the cost is set by the State of Ohio. If you have any other concerns or issues please feel free to contact us to discuss.

Positive experience: The Instructors are great Emmett,Tim, Mike are Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The office staff was nice and helpfully i would give them 5 stars but they had alot of trucks breaking down.

Ryan Todd 8 years ago

Negative experience: The school was great!!!!! Amazing staff but the lady that handles ur loan when ur out of school is a bully and completely unprofessional. She is an embarrassment to OBC. She threatened me bc I was a day late and told her it would be a couple weeks bc I'm an owner operator and my truck was in shop. Brand new owner operator at that she said I was going to jail and so would my co signer if we didn't pay. I told her she was freaking crazy and it's illegal if she called my co signer and tried to intimidate him to pay I would file a law suit. It's bull?$&@ bc I was never treated that way at OBC ... I even called the school to help.. but none... Because I talked back and knew the law she illegally sent my account to collections... DO NOT USE THE SCHOOL FINANCING ITS A SCAM...

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience here I would recommend it to anyone that wants a CDL!! The instructors are great and the office staff will help you succeed. They truly care and want to see you make it. They will not leave you behind IF you want to make it. I owe so much to this school!! Thank you OBC! You truly have changed my life and I am forever grateful!!!

Positive experience: Don't bother with the CDL class A unless you want a complete jerk "teaching" you. Do class B. Jimmy and CW are the best teachers ever and they should run that place!

René M. Alonzo 10 years ago

Fantastic experience: Been an student from this place were my best experience ever, I complete my course in five weeks I start on 09/15/2003 and I got my certificate by 10/10/2003 they taught me from A to Z and all my safety rules, best way to know how to learn to drive a truck and the classes were from 5:am to 5:30 pm 5 days a week.
