Puget Sound Safety: Reviews
Negative experience: It’s been very frustrating with Puget Sound Safety, I tried communicating, calling, searching for the proper location due to issues with finding the site as I’m not from the area. I call, the office doesn’t open on weekends despite this being a weekend class. Arrived on time but couldn’t find the site and was forced to forfeit over $350 because of being 20 minutes late. Instructor was incredibly rude, when I said I tried to call, said too bad office doesn’t open weekends. Even a doctor’s office actively charges a small fee, or provides a contact. Yet a weekend class does not offer any call services. No partial reimbursement or makeup class at all for $345 for being late 20 minutes.
Negative experience: The instructor told my son he was probably not going to pass before they even left the parking lot and for him to prove her wrong. She was a bully. He has long struggled with test anxiety and a learning disability. It would have been nice to learn something about what to work with him on; however, after the test, the instructor said she does not talk to parents, seeming angry he was even there. She walked past me after giving me a dirty look and not saying anything about the drive. The other school we went to gave him a sheet with the things he needed to work on with transparent scoring and kindness. I am paying, and I am doing all the practicing with him; he had 3 months of practice. Told him not to come see her for another month. Waste of money and time.
Fantastic experience: Shout out to Vena! She is incredibly patient and kind with her students. Plenty of training and resources.
Negative experience: I am being extremely generous by giving this company 1 star, I wish I could actually give zero, or negative stars lol. They are SCAMMERS. Let me start this off by saying I have parking lot practice experience, nothing crazy, but enough not to stall. I signed up for their Basic Rider Training, I quote their website: "Nothing is required to be ready for this training with the exception of your riding gear". The course will cost you $295, which includes the permit skills and written test. Perfect. Not even an hour in, where half an hour was pretty much their stupid lecture about their rules and learning clutch control (not actually riding), I get kicked out of the course, reason? I was too "distracted" and could not keep up with the group, mind you, I did not stall or drop the bike, I was definitely not the worst there. I was pulled aside (no 1:1 coaching, like other companies offer). I have to admit, learning to maneuver a motorcycle you have never even touched before, with a huge group is nerve racking. I was sent home, without even having a fair chance to try because they assumed I could not keep up with the group. Now here is my beef with this company, they used their judgment without giving me a fighting chance, sent me home, just to refuse refunding my money, and suggesting (or pretty much forcing) me to take a course they call "Intro to Riding", which cost half ($150) and does not include any permit test. How wonderful. Now you ask, are they going to refund your full payment or half of it if you take the course they are suggesting? Nope. Are they going to offer me the option to take the permit skills and written test after the Intro to Riding course? Nope. I would have to pay out of pocket (why would I do that?). I was told that riding a bicycle is a requirement to be able to be considered for this course, even though they never once disclosed that, and I was not the only one that never rode a bicycle before. I would stay away from this company.
Fantastic experience: Honestly lucked out. Had great classmates and Vena was a superb instructor! Was in a group of 7 initially, 2 bowed out early on. With us being a smaller group we got a lot of feedback and a lot more room for the exercises. Range was @ Cheny Stadium, classroom off Steele St. in Parkland. Excellent experience.
Fantastic experience: Great weekend class for intro to motorcycle riding, perfectly paced for acquiring skills and knowledge to be comfortable riding a bike. Thanks to Vena and Aaron for the instructions and guidance, looking forward to learning more on my own now that I have my permit.
Fantastic experience: Took the intro class for folks with zero riding skills. I needed to spend a few more minutes familiarizing myself with the machine they had me use for the first day of skills training. That’s on me. I figured out what I needed within a few hours but spending some time sitting on different machines at a store would have helped me a bit more. The instruction itself was top notch. Clear communication, clear expectations, but you do need to listen well. There is a lot of content from the instructors and it’s easy to miss key details if you get distracted. This team providing the two days of instruction were excellent but Marissa stood out between the two lead instructors. The instructor in training was also top notch. Get engaged, be respectful. These folks are total professionals and have your success and safety as their primary focus. I would recommend this school.
Fantastic experience: I had the absolute pleasure of learning how to ride from Drake and Bruce, and I can confidently say they’re two of the best motorcycle instructors out there. Their combination of skill, patience, and genuine passion for teaching made the experience both fun and incredibly effective.
Fantastic experience: Great and easy to work with.
Negative experience: Terrible experience. Recommend finding other options for your motorcycle training.
Fantastic experience: Drake and Marissa were great instructors!!
Fantastic experience: Drake and Vena were knowledgeable, kind, and want you to learn. More than just the class you paid for, they care about your riding experiencing beyond the 2 day course.
Negative experience: Poor instruction which lead to a 43% failure rate for the riding test. By a strange coincidence it was three unrelated women. He gave vague reasons for my wife’s failures. One was that she failed to reach the proper speed (12-18mph) for one evaluation yet her speedometer was indicating 20mph. What they don’t tell the students is that they are evaluating by time. The one thing that the women had in common was that they asked for a break prior to testing because the temps were in the 30’s (it had been sleeting at one point). This seems a simple request for a course that stresses the dangers of riding while cold and fatigued. Very little actual instruction in the classroom portions. Just handed out a riders pamphlet and told the students to read it and go to the DOL website to practice the test. When my wife asked questions pertaining to specific test questions that she couldn’t find any reference to the instructor (Tom) gave a rambling answer that went far off topic and left her still unclear about the subject. When she asked “So just do (what she thought the answer was)” he just shrugged his shoulders and said “Yeah”. To pay $345 for a course with barely better than 50/50 odds borders on fraud. I recommend finding other options for rider training.
Fantastic experience: Marissa was a fantastic instructor. She was very encouraging, friendly, and informative. I was pretty nervous at first but she uses both humor and encouragement to ensure everyone is comfortable.
Fantastic experience: I completed my motorcycle training with Drake and Marissa, and I couldn't be more impressed! They are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and truly excel at what they do. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to learn!
Fantastic experience: Took the 2 Day Basic Rider Training for my motorcycle permit and it was great. Marissa, Aaron, and Drake were amazing instructors who were very patient with our class who took their time to explain, and instruct. Made it a great time to learn the basic operation and skills needed to ride for first time riders. Would definitely recommend!
Negative experience: I did this class many years ago and have had a couple friends who did the same years ago as well. It was a great class back then and I've recommended them to many. I was very disappointed to hear that they asked the person I purchased, as a gift, a class for to leave because she lacked the basic skillset to ride. Both in the description on the website and in the information email they send you upon purchasing this class they make it very clear that the course I purchased was for a beginner rider who had *zero* experience riding. I can understand that some people just aren't going to "get it" but after a few hours of being there she couldn't answer basic questions about a bike that made it pretty clear they didn't take much, if any, time to explain. Most of the class had prior riding experience so it's not hard to see what happened when more than one person, without prior experience, was asked to leave. Take this class at your own risk. If you aren't experienced and you take the class they recommend you take there's still a very good chance they kick you out without a refund anyways. Probably best to get some experience before taking the class if you must use this company or just plan on paying for the class multiple times to get the promised training. I won't be recommending them anymore.
Fantastic experience: Very professional, patient and helpful instructor team leading our 2-day motorcycle training. There were 3 instructors to our class of 13 — riders of all skills and experience levels including novices who had never been on a bike. Class includes use of a variety (size, style and power) of functional — if not brand new — motorcycles. The staff did a fantastic job of bringing the whole class up to speed for motorcycle permit testing, while providing space for all students to practice and learn. Each day was ~5 hours on a bike + ~2-3 hours in the classroom including skills and written testing. Highly recommend!
Negative experience: All about the money. Done with you. Pased all 4 tests. Guy giving written tests out blows.
Negative experience: My class got canceled because they failed to arrange the parking lot, they agreed to gave a refund but when I contacted them, they never responded me back! Don’t waste your money, really not worth it!
Negative experience: Booooooooo!!! I registered for an endorsement test at night after hours. Right after, I found a closer location to me. First thing in the morning when they opened, I called to remove my registration so I could attend the closer location. They refused to refund me. No instructor had even been assigned yet because I had just registered over night and I called immediately when they opened. They just kept my hard-earned money for nothing. Very poor customer service. Go to a different company to get what you need. I went to WMST; worked out great.
Negative experience: The younger woman at the front desk has terrible customer service. Very rude and not helpful at all.
Fantastic experience: I completed the permit class with Rick last weekend, he was so kind and patient! would highly recommend this class to beginners :)
Fantastic experience: Staff was very helpful every time I called and they got there fare share of questions from me. The tester/instructor doing the skills test was great and easy to work with .Overall good place
Fantastic experience: Paul was patient, funny and made sure you left there knowing what you are doing. Highly recommend this place for any sort of driving / riding courses.
Fantastic experience: The instructors were friendly, knowledgeable, and kind during the two day Basic Rider Training. I came into the class as a complete novice. Matt and Marisa did a great job of adding information to slowly to build our knowledge base so as not to be overwhelming but keep the class moving towards permit testing. Their corrections and critiques were delivered with respect and kindness. The best thing is the class was fun! I highly recommend Puget Sound Safety for any motorcycle instructions!
