Fantastic experience: Boris! He was fair, stern , in a good way, friendly and totally trustworthy . I thought me and my son would fail until we realized they made it hard to get us motivated. The end part was well done due to the fact that the hard skills prepared us for the finale. We still have a lot to do. Just the beginning also we will be going back to become expert riders

Fantastic experience: Boris Munoz has been a tremendous help towards getting me my license. He's taught every drill thoroughly and made sure we understood it. And not once was I yelled at. Overall, I felt relaxed and confident on passing which was due to his help.

Fantastic experience: Wanted to say, thank you so much to Boris Munoz for instructing me. He was very thorough with each of the 14 courses he thought. Even with such a class of 8 people, he was able to give everyone attention, tips, and tricks on how to be a better and safer rider. From a rider with no prior experience, to someone now comfortable on the road. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: I recently completed the Beginner Basic Course at Motorcycle Safety School, and I just want to say — it was an awesome experience! Our instructor, BORIS MUNOZ, was absolutely outstanding. Super patient, calm, and clear in his explanations. He was really engaged with the group — he’d often highlight when someone asked a good question and genuinely encouraged thoughtful discussion. We had great communication with him, and you could tell he truly enjoys teaching beginners. He definitely left a strong, positive impression — he’s clearly in the right profession. Our group of seven people had ZERO RIDING EXPERIENCE — literally no one had ever properly ridden a motorcycle before. The only exception was me, and even then, it was just one day on a dirt bike about six years ago, riding in the mountains — nothing serious or structured. Despite that, Boris made sure everyone felt safe and confident. He explained and demonstrated everything clearly, step by step, never rushed anyone, and created an environment where we could learn without fear or pressure. We had a group of seven people in our class — and thanks to how he taught and supported us, ALL SEVEN OF US PASSED THE EVALUATION ON THE FIRST TRY and received our waivers. That says a lot about how effective and professional he is as an instructor. Big thanks to MSS and especially to BORIS MUNOZ. If you're thinking about taking the course — go for it. These guys know what they're doing. P.S. After the course, I read through other Google reviews and noticed several people also mentioned Boris in a very positive way — and now I totally understand why. I also saw a few reviews about other instructors where students felt a bit of pressure or, like, they were expected to already know how to ride. In our group, most of us were complete beginners — for many, it was our first real time riding a motorcycle — and Boris handled that perfectly. No judgment, just support and clear teaching. Best regards, Yevgeniy Levin.

Positive experience: I had pretty terrible experience here. I signed up for the basic beginner course, which ended up being not for beginners at all. The instructor Ari asked my class of 6 what everyone's level experience was, and as it turned out I was the only one who did not have any experience with motorcycles or driving manual whatsoever. The instructor spent the next day and a half screaming at me to "stop messing up" while I was trying to figure out how to work the clutch, to the point that one of the other students (who had experience driving manual from his home country) said to me that he couldn't imagine trying to learn how to drive with a clutch while someone was screaming at him like that. Additionally, the breaks were cut down to ten minutes in between the lessons so the class let put two hours early, taking away valuable practice and rest time. The instructor might be a good rider, but is an absolutely terrible teacher, and I ended up being counseled out on the second day. If this had been an intermediate class or anything else, I think this would have absolutely been my fault, but the fact that I took what was advertised as a basic beginners class, meant for people who have no knowledge of motorcycles at all, and then wasn't actually provided with the necessary instruction and spent two days getting screamed at is really just poor teaching. Overall a disappointing experience and a waste of time and money. ‐------------------------------------------ Adding an update and amendment to my previous review. The company reached out to me and offered a private lesson and a re-do of the two day course with a different instructor named Boris. Boris is a fantastic instructor and quite frankly reminded me of why I wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle in the first place. My new class of six people was all newbies except for one person, and Boris was extremely patient and kind and explained everything really well. It turns out that I had no problem learning how to drive with a clutch and shift gears when there isn't someone screaming their head off at me. My entire class passed, and the class was a really enjoyable experience. I would really recommend Boris as an instructor.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Raymond as a motorcycle instructor. His detailed explanations and thorough demonstrations made learning easy and effective. He ensured we understood each concept completely and consistently reviewed the key points after each exercise. Thanks to Raymond, we gained a wealth of valuable knowledge and confidence in our riding skills.

Fantastic experience: Where do I start? Let's see. 12 months ago (March 23 2023), I received my M permit & immediately reached out to VP Driving School located at Jamaica Ave, Richmond Hill, NY (closer to my job). I paid about 400$ for 6hrs (2hrs a day = 3days). Very first day, I was taught about the Friction zone (less than 1 minute), given a 250cc Honda Rebel & was thrown to the wolves in less than 10mins. I mean, I was interacting with traffic, stauled a million times at green lights, honked at, cursed at, put into huge intersections, went over overpaths as well as underpaths. Could you imagine my stress, anxiety & embarrassment level on my first day? 2nd & 3rd day, same thing. Crazy part is, I was told on my 3rd day that I was ready for the road test (conducted by the DMV). Are you fxxxxxking kidding me?!?.. Anyway, unfortunately, the day of my road test it was pouring like a mother outside & of course I'm praying to the heavens above to watch over me. I couldn't see while driving in my car, imagine a beginner on a motorcycle with a shielded helmet fogging up. When I arrived at the school, I was informed that I will be taking myself to the DMV testing site on the motorcycle. I've had the most difficult time getting there guys. I couldn't see shxxt out of my helmet & I was soaked down to my socks. Point I'm making is, I FAILED.‼️ 12 months later I got the courage to sign up again for classes, this time with MSS at the Staten Island location. 1) It was closer to my home (New Jersey). 2) 2 day course, just about 400$ as well (payment plan available), 12hrs in total, 6hrs each day = 2 days. 3) Everyone I know personally went there. 4) NO DMV RD TEST. ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ You receive a DMV road test WAIVER at the end of your 2nd day. (Everyone clap in excitement with me) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE believe me when I tell you, the amount of patience my instructor has is IMMACULATE. His name is BORIS & he trained 8 of us on both days. We NEVER went out on the road, we ONLY practiced in a HUGE parking lot with a skills course painted on the ground for many different maneuvers. Guess what? ... It was POURING HELL MARY on my 1st day of class, so what do you think happened?!? Yeup, all the negative thoughts, anxiety, shortness of breathe etc began to rise. BORIS not only was my instructor, he became my "service human" (lol). Yeup, like most people have service animals, I had BORIS. 2nd day (day of the skills test), beautiful weather, same parking lot, we did 5 parts (if I'm not mistaken). Each part was less than 1 minute. Of course it felt like forever because you had to wait for the class as well to finish. Yet, if I totaled the time entirely for myself only, It took about 8 mins for the skills test. Guess what? I PASSED..‼️ & received my DMV rd test waiver the same day. It's the size of a small business card with the school's info & your own info. You take that card & your permit to the DMV & WALLAH.. You get your M license. You have up to 2 years to utilize the waiver. I never write reviews even through my negative experiences because I feel no one cares to read anymore. But, I had to give credit where credit is due. THANK YOU BORIS..‼️ THANK YOU MSS..‼️‼️‼️

ALI IS VERY FIRM BUT FAIR HES A GREAT INSTRUCTOR AND JUST SAYS IT AS IT IS . ALI YOUR THE BEST AND I WILL DEFINITELY TELL MY FRIENDS ABOUT THE MSS COURSE. THANKS A MILLION.

Fantastic experience: Great experience. Ali one of that rare old school teachers we had years ago. Can explain exactly what you doing wrong in understandable manner. And if you can’t finish this training you definitely better stay away from open road. This is all drivers must have training!!! No matter what you driving motorcycle, big truck, sedan or mini coper. Just because of better understanding all participants point view and for mutual respect.

Negative experience: Some of the bikes they used are really out of tune. The clutch was so loose and the friction zone was almost at my finger tip. One tiny movement pass that point will stall the bike. An experienced rider won’t have a problem with this since feeling for the friction zone has already become a second nature to them. But to someone who never ride before, this will probably kill your confident. Also, it doesn’t help if you get an instructor that is constantly yelling and being impatient like this is some sort of military training. Luckily I have a friend who let me practice on his bike (Kawasaki z400) the day after. The clutch is so much easier to use and I haven’t stall so far. If you’re a new rider, it’s better to take the one on one course with a good instructor and then go take the dmv road test. You will gain much more confident riding on the street in oppose to just the parking lot. Afterward, you can take the msf course to improve your skill.

Dear JP,
I would like to find out more about what happened during your course. Our motorcycles are inspected prior to every course, however, every motorcycle operates differently. If at anytime a student is uncomfortable with specific brand, the instructor is able to swap out the motorcycle immediately.

Please call me at 718-599-1079 and ask for David. I look forward to your call.

Positive experience: I'm giving it a 3 because covid messed it up and the weather. There are no directions and information in all the covid pre-screening you have to do before class: that is very unorganized. Be careful what you register for online. I registered for the rider 2 day license waiver. I thought the waiver was simply to waive the road test fee, but apparently through this class, you can skip the dmv road test completely as long as you have the other documents needed. I ended up being "counseled out" or in other words kicked out after 3 hours. Wouldn't suggest this class for learning in one go since they don't refund you. It doesn't matter if you paid for 2 days, if you get "counseled out" on the first day, you do not get to go back the second. You do get offered a partial discount for another class. In rain or shine they said, class will go on and they are not joking. The class today happened to take place in very much freezing temperatures with constant rain. Unlucky for me, I did not dress in enough layers and couldn't move my hands after a few exercises due to the cold. Please don't make that same costly mistake! I think my teacher Ali did very well instructing. I learned a lot in a short period of time. He was very motivating and kind. He gave everyone equal time as well as attention. (In this short time, we covered mounting, unmounting, just running with the bike, gear shift)

Fantastic experience: It was an incredibly informative and detailed class. I had no prior experience riding a motorcycle before attending this course and by the end of the second day, I felt confident to ride on my own. Both instructors (Ed and Ali) were great and gave every individual the attention they needed to improve their riding skills.

Fantastic experience: Great experience, great way to learn. My instructor Ali was very helpful, very professional and friendly at the same time. The 2 day basic course and with his real life examples my group and I were very successful in passing the road skills test as well as the knowledge test. I highly recommend taking this course in order to learn or improve your riding skills and also learn much more about safety on the road.

Negative experience: In the Riders Basic Course 2 the email states you need to bring your own motorcycle for the class. Unfortunately for me my bike broke down and needed repairs the night before my class. I showed up in person to reschedule and also called today to reschedule and they refused to reschedule me because it’s voids their “policy” therefore I forfeited my fee.... Scammed out of 125$ and the lady on the phone said sorry but you can re buy it if you want? I already paid for it why would I buy it again and I don’t see why I couldn't reschedule considering you show up to class and drive around? If I wasn’t in class and didn’t use their service in anyway how can you not allow me to reschedule? IT COST THEM NOTHING BUT GIVES THEM A REASON TO TAKE YOUR MONEY! The fact you forfeit your fee due to unseen incidents is just messed up.

Fantastic experience: Whether or not an aspiring motorcyclist has a NYS Class M (motorcycle) Learner Permit (issued on completion of a 20 question written exam) they can and should take the Motorcycle Safety School Basic Rider Course. Successful completion of the 2.5 day course earns the student a DMV road test waiver card. The student may then go to the DMV, complete a form for a license change and present the form, the MSS waiver card, and the learner permit to a clerk - it is also possible to take the written exam during this visit, prior to submitting a request for an amended license. This is all that's required to obtain a Class DM (operator and motorcycle) license. But waiving the road test is not the only reason to take the BRC course offered by the MSS. The cost is $350.00 and the payoff is learning basic operation of a bike along with some valuable survival tips and skills. After signup the student is instructed via email to take the 3 hour online "e-Course", a prerequisite for the BRC. It is long but comprehensive and contains much of the information that is taught in the BRC classroom. The actual course begins on a Friday evening with classroom discussion and exercises. The actual hands on motorcycle skills training occurs Saturday morning on a practice "range" - a parking lot specially painted for the training. Motorcycles are provided and helmets are available as well but the rider is expected to be dressed appropriately: long sleeves, sturdy pants (no shorts), full fingered gloves, ankle high shoes/boots and eye protection. The skills training begins with engines off as the rider learns the basic controls of the bike. Then "power walking" the bike allows the rider to become familiar with proper use of the clutch and brakes. Learning to drive the bike in first gear - in a straight line - is accompanied by learning how to stop safely. Once these basic objectives are met more advanced skills are practiced: laps around the perimeter of the range including shifting into second gear and leaning into curves; learning to slow the bike to approach and entry speeds for curves; driving around closely spaced cones at low speeds using the clutch and rear brake; quick stops using threshold braking; changing lanes; merging into traffic; driving over obstacles; swerving to avoid larger obstacles, and; tight turning - 90 degree turns and u-turns - at slow speeds. Each exercise begins with the riding coach describing the exercise and the objective, demonstrating the exercise - riding through it on the range, having the student riders simulate the exercise (engines off), having the riders complete the exercise, and finally, post-processing what went well and what was problematic ("reflecting"). A half day of exercise is followed by lunch and a half day of classroom discussion and a written knowledge test - multiple choice and not too demanding, if the student paid attention. The final day of the course is spent on the range. The last exercises are taught and then the students take the skills evaluation - an MSS/MSF road test. Successful completion of the test yields a DMV road test waiver - but the student also rides off with some new skills, some insights and a warning: a mistake on the range is perhaps embarassing but a mistake on the street can be costly so practicing the new skills is highly recommended. The acquisition of new skills and knowledge in a safe environment on MSS-provided motorcycles appropriate for new riders is well worth the price of admission. Being properly trained and certified is vastly superior to simply taking the DMV road test alone whether you pass or not. Students who simply cannot master the skills despite patient instruction from riding coaches, students who don't follow directions or who put others at risk and students who miss part of the instruction (arriving late, etc.) are "counseled out" of the course with no refund. In short the BRC is a demanding but invaluable experience. In fact even veteran riders could profit from the experience.
