He’s been really encouraging and inspiring. We went driving around downtown the first class and also on highway for a bit. We also drove to Manitou springs. The second time we went to garden of the gods and Cheyenne mountain area. I had to have practice test for two times but still managed to pass the actual driving test thanks to Peter. He also took the time and told me a lot about the renting a car verses buying a car after getting my license. He’s very talkative and calmed me down a lot during driving and he also inspired me by sharing a lot of biking trails and skiing destinations. He’s also knowledgeable about a lot of things, I learned something new from his traveling and trips before every time. I’m never nervous or anxious about driving after the class with Peter and Susan. Fantastic experience: What a genuinely open and honest driver training feedback. My daughter didn't pass the first time, but was assured she had the fundamentals. We worked on what she had issues with and on the second attempt she sailed thru. Peter is very experienced and highly skilled both in Driving and communicating. He is level headed and teaches both from his head and heart with even handed and calm and caring attention to the student. I cannot recommend Drive Right to much. If your child has anxiety or little confidence, go to Drive Right and they will get them on the right side of the rode.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Drive-Right Academy!!! After a disappointing experience with another driving school, my son regained his confidence in his driving skills, after just one lesson with Drive-Right. He learned new skills and passed his test in no time. I will be using this school again for my younger son and will continue to recommend this school to my friends and neighbors. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: The Bob Ross of driving instructors! This man Pete taught me how to drive a turbo-charged manual, and I can promise his skills are unparalleled! Took me through launch control, clutch dumping, and even stall evasion! 10/10 would recommend.

Negative experience: Actually blown away by the incompetence Peter Gates displays at his job. He does not know how to be a driving instructor, if he even knows how to drive at all. Apparently, the man never uses or even glances at his speedometer, considering he would adamantly refuse that my child even look at the speedometer to determine their speed or if they are going the right speed on the road. Their philosophy behind driving speeds is apparently "feel it out" so I'm now convinced he's never paid attention to a posted speed limit sign in his life. He also refuses that his students look down at the clutch to switch gears (from park, to drive or reverse, etc) so I can only imagine how many alternators he has gone through. On top of this, he would regularly ask VERY inappropriate questions to my child during their driving "lessons" if you would even call them that at this point. I'm almost convinced something predatory was going on considering they failed my child's driving test 3 different times, each for increasingly ridiculous reasons as listed above. Then, I tried a different company and my daughter passed first try without any inappropriate behavior, difficulties or ridiculous stipulations. Each test is 150 dollars, so either Peter Gates is scamming people out of their money by making up rules, or he's a creep who wanted to force my daughter to be around him more. Either way, stay far away from this driving school. Edit: I am adding onto my previous review and bumping up my star rating from a 1 to 2 for the following reasons. Shortly after posting my review, I was contacted by Peter Gates by phone. They were reasonable and courteous in doing their best to explain how some of the issues I had with their teaching style may have been a result of misunderstandings. They also offered my daughter a refund on their most recent driving test, which they honored. While some of the things they said didn't line up with my child's version of the story entirely, I can relinquish my claim that their intentions were motivated by inappropriate intentions. Not the worst driving school, but maybe some of the instruction methods need adjustment.

Fantastic experience: Susan and Peter both were very nice and help a lot, throughout my time with them, helped me get through my test efficiently. Peter taught me excellent skills and techniques that helped me make driving easier than before, Susan was very flexible with the schedule and let me reschedule because of unfortunate circumstances and was very helpful with that as well and I would recommend taking this driving school.

Fantastic experience: I loved it ,I was so scared and nervous before I got started . But from the start he was funny and said the way he would teach is backwards from everyone else. For the first time I had fun driving a stick .I can not recommend this enough. Thanks again!

Fantastic experience: I have two kiddos (so far) that completed the driver’s ed course with Peter and Susan at Drive Right. I appreciate their focus on safety and good driving habits as well as being quick to respond when we communicate. The kids will say most of the in-person course was long, but the last class was a fun and educational day spent in the car driving. Peter and Susan set up an evasive maneuver driving course that teaches drivers to avoid to surprise obstacles. This is such a useful and important lesson that people usually just learn on the road. The course allows them to practice and perfect their skills (and muscle memory!) in a safe environment. After the class, my hesitant-to-drive teenager had a great driving lesson with Peter that really boosted their confidence, and he had some useful tips to improve their driving in preparation for the upcoming driving test. When the last kiddo is old enough to drive, we’re calling Drive Right!

Fantastic experience: Susan & Peter Gates are the two most friendly and knowledgeable Drivers Ed teachers in Colorado Springs. Their classes thoroughly prepare teens for every step of the process - classes, driving hours and the final behind the wheel test. They are responsive and easy to work with. I have had three teen drivers go through their program, and I myself as an adult driver have used their adult program. Simply the BEST!

Fantastic experience: All three of my children have learned to drive with the help of Drive-Right Academy. Peter and Susan are great to work with! We are very happy with every aspect of the training from the class to the 6 hours of driving to the driving test. Everything went so smoothly, it was an easy choice to use them with all our children.

Fantastic experience: I’m giving her a five star review bc she was super kind. And when we didn’t have a certain paper I just brought it the next day and I didn’t have to pay I originally went to American driving school they charged $75 and I didn’t have a paper and had to reschedule and pay another $75 but I said I’m not paying another $75 so I called drive right academy and they said $55 I was like okay that works. But I do got to admit I drive with one hand and barley passed also she was is a very joyful mood

Fantastic experience: The driving instructor was patient, understanding, and very friendly. The driving lesson was good, took place in the residential area of downtown Colorado Springs. The driving test was also good and easy too, take simple navigation directions from the instructor. The experience was helpful, accommodating, calming. Good driving lesson recommended. :)

Fantastic experience: The Drive-Right program provided great instruction, behind the wheel training, and helped all three of my children successfully get their licenses. The owners are very easy to communicate with and flexible with scheduling. I highly recommend this driving program.

Fantastic experience: There is no better driving school than Drive Right. Susan and Peter do such an excellent job. Detailed, professional and thorough. Our sons are excellent, confident and aware drivers on account of all they learned from them. We can’t recommend them enough.

Negative experience: I took lessons a year ago and Peter was absolutely crazy. He was saying racist things, going on rants, was very hostile with me, asked me if I was stupid and talked terrible things about his other customers. I was so uncomfortable that I only took the lessons I paid for and refused to take a driver's test through them. Susan was very nice though.

Fantastic experience: I let my driver's license lapse and had to take a driving test. I called Susan and she was able to get me in the next day. All the other more expensive places could not get me in for days! I loved driving my own car and only having to pay $55.00. She made me feel right at home, and sent me all the information I would need through text. I would highly recommend taking your test with her, she was a huge blessing! Negative experience: Let me start by saying sorry for the frustration and anger behind this review. DO NOT waste your time or money. If I was state side right now and found out this guy Peter was insulting my wife during the session, I would have definitely pulled him out the car and had a talk. I enrolled my wife to learn how to drive properly while I am overseas but the patience and understanding the student was not there with this company.. Talks way too much about irrelevant stuff that has nothing to do with driving. Now my wife has lost all confidence getting behind the wheel because companies like this are just in for the money and not value what they stand behind. If there was a negative star option I wouldn't even think twice to rate it.

Negative experience: I had signed my Grandson up for driving school and we put it down for the wrong weekend. Susan is nice until you make a mistake and then she is condescending and rude, I tried to work with her however she is just ruthless. She sent me a nasty email about my daughter which was very unprofessional. After seeing how this company handles unfortunate situations they are not a very good company to do business with. I was helping my daughter because she is a single mom and going to college, any mom would try to help their kids out. Unfortunately Susan had no understanding.

Fantastic experience: My teen son took a stick shift class. From the first minute a very family feeling, Peter was easy going, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. Overall a great confidence-building experience for my son. I had driven stick for a decade and learnt key stuff myself! Will repeat with my other children for sure

Fantastic experience: I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I had amazing time learning how to drive and passing the test with Drive-Right Academy. Peter is the perfect example of personable professional and he definitely knows how to approach every individual. I will be forever thankful for his patience and stress free attitude. His teaching skills made me feel confident and calm which was crucial for me since I had bad learning experience in the past. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that he knows how to create the perfect balance between teaching and making the atmosphere relaxed and tense free. He also has a great sense of humor which is a huge plus. :) I would like to give special thanks to Peter’s wife-Susann. She was extremely nice, helpful and always eager to answer all of my questions. Fantastic experience: Would recommend for older drivers needing to pass test. Much less stressful than the driving schools close to the DMV.

Positive experience: He's a really great instructor, but talks way too much and it actually cuts into the driving time. He's a sweet guy who has some great knowledge on driving, and he helped me a lot, but there were times when we would park and talk and I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth.

Fantastic experience: Susan makes scheduling very easy, and Peter is a wonderful instructor. I'm 26 and did classroom lessons when I was 16 to get my permit, but never got my license due to anxiety on the road. (I was barely comfortable driving outside of parking lots.) After my first lesson with Peter, I was feeling much more relaxed; after the second lesson, I passed my license test and was driving on the highway! I never thought I'd be able to comfortably drive, but Peter spoke to me the entire time, and gently gave me instructions every step of the way. I'm so glad I signed up with Drive-Right :)

Fantastic experience: This is our second child to go through the Drive Right Academy 6 Hour Behind the Wheel course. Wow, it definitely makes a difference on their confidence level. Peter is a great instructor, patient, easy to understand, calm, exactly what our son needed. He worked with our son to fine tune his skills and make sure he understands the rules of the road. Susan is so easy to work with, we have a busy schedule and she was able to schedule our son when it worked best for him. We give Peter & Susan our highest recommendation!

Fantastic experience: I've been looking at driving schools for my son when we landed on and went with Drive-Right Academy and I couldn't be happier! It's a husband (instructor) and wife business, sweet couple. My son was super comfortable with the husband. Even got him on the freeway the first day. My anxiety just couldn't do it. With the course we chose, they picked him up right at our house. It's a 2 day course and included the driving test. At the completion of the classes and test they give you a paper to take the DMV to get your license. Highly recommended! So much so I called them personally to thank them and told them I would definitely leave them a review.

Fantastic experience: My daughter took driving lessons with Peter and learned so much. She had practiced a lot before taking the 6-hour class, and was driving pretty well. But her driving after the course was way better and she had good driving techniques that I'd never seen. She says that she uses what she learned every time she drives. Her confidence and skills soared from her experience with Drive -Right Academy in Colorado Springs. I'd highly recommend them. They're excellent!

Fantastic experience: Choosing the right driving school can be pretty hard. I’m glad I made the right choice! From working with my schedule Susan went above and beyond to get me scheduled without any hassle. She’s very accommodating and nice. And my instructor Peter prepared me for my driving test and driving in snow, from the safest way of steering, parking and how to be a defensive driver. He really have the patience for first time drivers like me. I highly recommend Drive Right Academy!

Fantastic experience: Peter is thorough in teaching drivers ed content as well as in actual driving skill and in engaging the students. Peter and Susan both are quick to respond to messages and are very accommodating when it comes time for the student to take their driving test. Times and the location are convenient. Two of my teenagers have participated in drive right's drivers ed program, and I plan to enroll my third as well.
