A-1 Driving School

Negative experience: Horrible customer service. Horrible drive-time availability. and horrible website functionality. You're told to login at 1PM every Thursday and rush as fast as you can (first come first come lottery style) to select a drive-time before anyone else reserves it. We've tried for 3 weeks and have found 1 (one!) drive-time available during that time so we're forced to wait another week to see if we're lucky enough to find a reserve a time...? Hire more driving instructors, fix your website, and answer the phone, please.

Fantastic experience: As someone who was nervous about driving ,I really appreciated my instructor (Tammy H.)she was very calm and patience, I lacked confidence in my driving skills, her clear instructions and supportive attitude really helped me a lot. Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend A-1 Driving to anyone who needs to get their driver’s license and who just needs the confidence boost to learn defense and cognitive driving skills. The drive instructors, Sean Hatch in particular, gave me the confidence boost and assurance that I needed to start driving. I am someone in their early 30’s who was TERRIFIED to learn how to drive, but Sean really put my anxiety and hesitation to rest. I’ve learned so much from cognitive driving and what to expect on the actual road test from Sean. I am forever grateful for Sean for allowing me to be able to push myself beyond my own boundaries and limits to achieve what I believe is a big milestone in my life! Thank you so much Sean and A-1 Driving School! P.S. Don’t worry Sean, I still hear your voice in my head saying “Head check!”

Negative experience: Don’t waste your time & money doing a road test here. I basically paid them $50 to fail my teenager who never should have failed. Keep reading if you want details. I scheduled my daughter for her road test with A-1. The lady I scheduled with was nice & helpful on how to prepare my daughter for the road test. So we watched the DLD road test video & practiced multiple times prior to her test and she understood the head checks were a big deal to do. She gets back from her road test and is told not only did she fail she completely failed. He didn’t explain much but told her she didn’t do head heck’s at all and has bad driving habits. We both left a little confused because the company/guy she did her 6 hours of driving with told her she did great & had zero issues with her driving & did great with the maneuvers that would be on the road test. After we got home & read the paper given to us from her road test it said failure to do head checks, not using blinkers, gaps in parking were too big even though she said he never got out to see how big the gaps actually were. So we scheduled another road test with a different 3rd party. She talked with the road tester about what a correct head check is prior to starting & he confirmed what she was doing was correct. And guess what she passed with 100% which this road tester said he doesn’t give out that score very often. I asked my daughter what she did different and she said nothing. The only difference was this guy actually looked to see how close I was to the curb when I parked. Is my daughter a perfect driver? Of course not she’s a teenager. But someone doesn’t go from completely failing because of bad driving habits to 100% score in less than a week.

Negative experience: Do not use this school. The online program is fine. The issue come in for the drives. They only come available at 1pm on Thursday and you play hunger games for a spot. Heaven forbid you have a life or work or anything else because all spots are full by 1:03. I have had three people login the last 4 weeks to get a spot and have not been able. I called and she gave us one driving spot. They cannot tell you how many people you are competing with for spots, you just have to login and keep trying. Terrible system. I ended up paying a second time at a different driving school because their calendar was available 2 months out and we were able to schedule more than one drive in a weeks time. Also, the waiting list has not sent us anything in 5 weeks even though we register EVERY week.

Fantastic experience: These guys are fantastic!!!! I had some questions about scheduling and when I called in they helped so fast! They helped make sure we had exactly what we needed! I would 100% recommend going wit A-1 Driving! Just make sure to call if you have any questions at all. I loved the office manager.

Negative experience: My son went to A1 to do a road test in Nov of 2022 and paid $40 to do so and they failed him they said he had some things to work on which is fine so we had him work with a friend who was a former Driver's ed instructor to make sure he would not fail again. He went back In January and paid another $40 and they failed him again. All they care about is making money they could care less about who they put on the road.

Fantastic experience: I took my wife for test here, she failed the test in dld due to language issues as English is her second language. Daniel who took the test understand the situation. His instructions were very clear and easy to understand. Also after test where she made mistakes he explained the mistakes with pictures. I think this is also a good place to learn the way he explained it.

Fantastic experience: Daniel was an absolute delight to test with! He was kind, non abrasive, and actually took the time to explain my errors and mistakes after the test even though I passed. Daniel, if you see this, thank you!

Negative experience: A-1 has a strict policy on students being on time to drive. If you are not, they will cancel the drive and charge you a 60 dollar fee to reschedule. However, they have no problem make kids wait for them. Waiting 15 minutes now beyond our scheduled time to drive. Where is my 60 dollars becuase you were late?

Fantastic experience: My instructor was very sweet and helped me understand what's going to help me with my driving

Negative experience: We weren't able to schedule drive times because they were so busy, then wouldn't give a refund.

Fantastic experience: They do everything proper they are excellent in their communication skills and they teach everything to the best of their capability they are honest trustworthy and respectful would see again ✌️☮️

Fantastic experience: I had my driving Ed course scheduled all 3 times through Sean. He’s such a good instructor and is super nice. The coursework is definitely older and looks like it needs to be updated but otherwise all of it’s good. Lots of good information in the drivings to pass your driving test.

Fantastic experience: It was super easy to learn everything here! Especially with Sean! Sean pretty much helped solve any driving problems I had and made it easier to get my license!

Fantastic experience: I recently finished my Drivers Ed course through A-1 Driving School in Riverdale, and overall I thought it was a great experience! I wasn’t looking forward to Drivers Ed because I thought that it would be a waste of time, but I actually began to enjoy it! Everyone there is so nice and helpful! I 100% recommend Sean for the drives. I did all three of my drives with him, and he made the whole experience fun and easy. If you are considering this place for Drivers Ed, then I think you should pull the plug and do it!!

Fantastic experience: After failing my skills test at the dld 3 times, I decided to take the A1 driving school course. I got Sean for each of my drives, and he was very helpful and informative. My sister went here a few months before me, and said he was the best one she had! He had a great sense of humor, and made things very comfortable for me. I would definitely recommend this place for those who are nervous about driving. Drive with Sean!

Fantastic experience: Recommend driving with Brandon (I hope that’s his name) but it was very chill and he showed me very brilliant techniques in driving. I was nervous at first but he helped me relax and become 10x more confident in driving.

Fantastic experience: Everything went really smoothly with them, they have some great teachers, especially Sean who I really loved driving with and I felt like he taught me a lot. The online course is a little outdated for sure but it's nothing too bad. Overall just a good driving education experience for anybody near Ogden.

Fantastic experience: If you do your drivers Ed here, DRIVE WITH SEAN. he was very informative and was also extremely understanding. I struggle with a ton of anxiety behind the wheel and he made sure to only take me as far as I was comfortable with, making sure I understood things well, and asked me if I was comfortable taking the turn yet instead of making me feel bad when I was hesitant. I did end up doing one of my sessions with Alex and the experience was nothing short of nerve racking, he was alright but made me feel bad anytime I was hesitant to make a turn and always had a response like “you could have gone there but you were hesitant and now you have to wait.” Which made me even more nervous afterwards. He also had me pull through McDonald’s so he could get a drink which I didn’t mind as much, but it took up some learning time that I felt I needed. Throughout the drive he also played the football scores and announcements on the radio and it was quite distracting (as you know sport announcers don’t have the most gentle of voices). I definitely made sure to schedule my next one with Sean after that.

Fantastic experience: Alex was the best instructor I could've gotten, not only was he very helpful and professional, he could easily jump into being a professional and yet act like a old friend.

Fantastic experience: so I did my driver ED here and all I got to say is BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! the front desk receptionist Evelynn (someone corrects me if im wrong) is just so nice I would always come in 40 minutes early and I would just sit and talk to her it was great and I had 1 drive with Brandon and 1 observation I was really nervous but after the drive and observation I wasn't anymore and for my last two drives I drove with Alex and he was amazing, funny too he corrected all my bad habit in driving and helped me with some pointers it was great overall everyone was amazing and im glad I got to meet some cool people i definitely recommend going here for drivers ed

Fantastic experience: My daughter had all her driver’s Ed canceled because of Covid. We thought she would never get her license but we called A-1driving and it was awesome! They explained everything very well. They got my daughter in fast. It was a very good experience.

Fantastic experience: They were very understanding of my situation, let me reschedule when my permit ended up being no privilege. Then they waited around an hour for me because I had to get the new permit the day of my road test. The two of them are very understanding and a pleasure to work with.

Fantastic experience: This was a very nice driving school. I went here for my driving test and was very pleased. The instructor was very nice and he helped me be less nervous. They have new 2019 cars (it's july 2020 when I'm wiriting this). The area has a great mix of all different types of roads. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend.

Negative experience: The woman that answered the phone was rude and had an attitude but very thankful for Martha!

Negative experience: I did A-1 a good while ago. not sure if the old guy is still there but he needs anger management or SOMETHING. He was kind when I drove because I did well due to practice outside of A-1 before driving with him. But when I was observing with another girl, old guy kept yelling at the poor young man driving that day. He was threatening, using intimidation, and just acting very unprofessional. Because he was so brutal, the driver began focusing less on the road and more on the yelling, which was quite obviously causing him anxiety. We almost got into multiple accidents within those two hours. Honestly this is not the job for him if he can't remain calm with the students. It's unprofessional, irresponsible, and just horrific.

Negative experience: The younger gentleman teaching the classes at night takes a whole lot of time away from learning to talk about off-topic things. My child has been very frustrated with this.

Fantastic experience: Alex is quite the awesome boi with an incredible sense of humour. 10/10 would recommend for the hilarious drives. If you're boring, schedule drives with the other older guy. He's alright but he likes to say holy balls.

Negative experience: The old guy instructor uses intimidation and scare tactics, that doesn't work for me. He thought I should know everything about driving a car and became agitated to offer me any help. Took one lesson and never came back, belittling and intimidation tactics don't work on me. Obtained my license on my own with plenty of practice with my learners permit.

Fantastic experience: Both of our girls did their Driver's Education there and everything worked out well. Decent vehicles, good instructors, fair prices, very convenient scheduling.

Fantastic experience: Very pleased with Mr. Bill. He taught me everything I need to know for safe and defensive driving and what I need to pass my exam.
