AK Services Driver Testing - Brighton

Negative experience: Easy to pass but extremely degrading instructor. Edit: I will be more specific. Overall my instructor seemed to be helpful and gave good insight when needed, but his demeanor I found to be degrading, he would call my fiancé “turkey”, and made comments about how us “girls” are fast at typing in card information and why.

Negative experience: Very quick and easy way to burn $80. SCAM ALERT. Response was prompt, but the test was over and money gone just as promptly. Can’t speak for all of the testers, but if you hear the name Marsha decline and RUN!! Very curt and sour demeanor. I dared to ask a confirming question and the response was, “it was in the text message, you should prepare better”. You mean the one I read once 5 days prior. Gee I’m sorry I did prepare, my apologies my medication had other plans. Marsha would not administer the road test saying my child made too many mistakes in the parking lot. When directly asked about receiving a copy of the test the request was denied. (I believe multiple marks were taken for a single move that should have garnered a single mark.) Was told my child would need extensive practice before retaking the test, but could come back and retest for $10 less. (How convenient). Miraculously went to another tester just a few days later and passed flawlessly. Guess they didn’t need extensive additional practice.

Fantastic experience: Calling and scheduling the appointment was very easy. Justin the instructor/examiner was so easy going, calmed my nerves and made casual conversation while taking the test. felt like I was driving with an old friend. couldn’t have gone better!

Fantastic experience: Answered all calls and called back promptly. office personnel were very accommodating, easy to deal with and professional at the same time. I would highly recommend this service. I passed my CDL B. Examiner Rachel was very professional and easy to test with. Clear concise direction through out the test course.

Negative experience: I will not be recommending ak services driving test to others. I had Justin the guy who everyone complimented. The way they setup their services is to try to have you fail so you come back and pay more money for another test… I just passed my drivers test AT another place right after going to ak services, They remain calm and put up a facade that they are trying to help you when they are trying to take more money from your wallet. Unclear instructions as well… I do not recommend ak services for those trying to pass their driving test unless you want to come back one more time and pay more money. There is not even a proper place to stay at for someone who is licensed driving with you once you arrive at the location. They have to wait outside…

Fantastic experience: I went for my CDL test today and couldn’t be happier - I passed under Rachel’s direction. Rachel was very professional in her approach, gave clear instructions and offered to field any questions I had. Everything from the initial appointment setup to the actual testing was perfect. Tomorrow I’ll go to the BMV to get my new CDL!

Negative experience: They never answer their phone, I wish the scheduling was a bit of an easier process. As well as the lady on the phone was exceptionally rude when making the appointment. As someone who is affected by disabilities, I do not recommend this testing site. The instructor was pleasantly nice despite everything else. And after reading reviews from other clients, I do have to say I don’t feel as though this facility is run very professionally nor inclusive. Thank you for your time.

Fantastic experience: I am new to Michigan and had to take my driving test (expired license drama), so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was extremely nervous - who wants to fail at 40! - but Marsha was very kind and thorough. She let me know what the test was to entail and was a very calming and reassuring administrator. I would definitely recommend this testing site.

Fantastic experience: All I can say is- I was terrified of the idea of taking the drivers test in fear the instructor would be breathing down my neck. I was actually praying I got Justin because I saw so many nice reviews with him and now I can see why. He’s very professional and has this attitude that makes you feel safe and not scared to say anything. After each portion of the test, he gave me in-depth lectures and critiques that helped me understand how I could be a better driver and overall such a pleasant experience- made me feel so confident. So good I’ll be recommending this service to even upcoming Novi students :)

Fantastic experience: My extremely anxious son had a great experience taking his road test with Justin. He made sure my son understood everything he need to do and went out of his way to help him calm down and be more comfortable. He also took time at the end to explain his mistakes and areas for improvement, so he can continue to become a better driver. I would recommended AK to anyone, but especially people with anxiety.

Fantastic experience: One of the best experience. Very professional and patience with my son. The instructor, Justin took his time to explain everything about the road test and what he was looking for. After the test was over, Justin did an amazing job at explaining why points were taken off and most importantly, provided learning opportunities. Highly Recommend!!

Negative experience: Your testing professionals should wear masks in the car. Your statement about 99% of clients not caring about masks is ridiculous. Most of us are afraid that you will fail us if we ask about masks.

Negative experience: The instructor would not wear a mask, even when we asked him to. We had no way of knowing in advance that he would not. We will not do business with this company.

Fantastic experience: Professional and pleasant experience! We did the driving test here and it went well. Justin is a gentle, patient and teaching examiner who is good at easing our nerves before the test.

Fantastic experience: I took my road test with Justin as my examiner. He did an absolutely wonderful job calming my nerves and explaining ALL of the requirements to pass as well as the point system. While on the road he gave very clear and specific driving instructions. After the test he shared that i had passed as well as where i had accumulated a few points and why i got them. Very thankful for the friendly service and the great instructor. Highly recommend using this service!

Fantastic experience: Very professional, first time I took my road test and the instructor had very simple directions that were easy to follow and told me way ahead of time. He was very kind, I wasn't nervous going in but he did nothing to make the situation any less comfortable. After we got back he went over the errors I did and explained them but also drew them out so we could better visualize them, I don't know if all instructors do that but I really liked that. I would like to add that I was wearing a U of M shirt and he was wearing an MSU sweatshirt so I was put at a severe disadvantage going in. HIGHLY RECOMMEND; ITS A CAKE WALK

Fantastic experience: Justin was very friendly and calming. He was very clear in his instructions to my daughter before and during the parking/road test. I would strongly recommend this agency for future drivers!

Negative experience: My daughter was not allowed to take the test because the horn on her car did not function properly. She then chastised her for the hood on the car being dented. The car was in a minor accident before we purchased it. It was inspected by the dealership to be in perfect order aside from the horn. As if that wasn't enough, my daughter is 18 and has a temporary drivers license that does not require her to drive with an adult. The instructor told her over the phone that we did not have to be with her for the test. The moment she arrived at the school, she was berated for us not being there. Rude, unprofessional, disrespectful and two faced. I don't know what kind of instructor you are but you certainly know NOTHING about how to treat a paying customer. And yes, I am aware that AK is a "state sponsored" school and your not there to be nice. That doesn't mean you you're required to be insensitive. State sponsored school or not, it is first and foremost a business with paying customers. We could have come back with one of our cars and gone with her had you been respectful. Now you have lost our business and the business of everyone we know. Not that you care. In response to your response, how terrible for you to have to come in on your day off and spend 5 minutes chastising someone. My daughter actually had to call off of work to go take this test so she missed out on a day's pay, so I guess that makes you even. She gained nothing out of it as well. Obviously. Like I said, DISRESPECTFUL. I just spoke to a friend who happens to work at the Secretary of State's office. My daughter's temporary license is not a learner's permit. It is not illegal for her to drive by herself. It is a temporary license so I guess that means you're not as knowledgeable as I think you are which tells me what kind of instructor you are. Like I said, UNPROFESSIONAL. She also told me that you said over the phone that you have never failed a student. I find it odd that I see dozens of reviews on multiple websites regarding your business failing students. Like I said, TWO-FACED. I stand by my original review. Like I said, just plain RUDE. You actually have the audacity to sit there and claim that you were doing us a favor by not charging us $20 for a fee regarding a service that you did not provide. What kind of sense does that make? If you had charged her that $20, I would have come and collected it. To top it all off you missed the entire point of this review. I understand that the horn is necessary. I understand that I didn't read the text. That's all on me as her father. My problem was with your nasty attitude. Dealing with customers is obviously not your strength. And I get very defensive when my kids are mistreated by someone who believes they are in a position of authority. Had you been professional, we would have returned with the proper vehicle. I have no doubt that the next company we go through will be better. Can't get any worse.

Fantastic experience: the guy was awesome. i had a great experience and learned a few more things i didn’t even know. i HIGHLY recommend for anyone who needs there test to be taken. if you fail it’s all on you, no one else’s fault, they clearly make sure you know what you have to do before hand.

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. After completing the drivers exam, the instructor informed me that he was failing me on the count that I ran a stop sign on one of the routes in Brighton near the Starbucks off of Grand River. That was impossible as I stopped at both stop signs and the red light following the signs. And if I did run the stop sign, why didn't the instructor inform me of my error and end the exam right then and there? I called the office to express my disappointment in the false accusations and I was met with additional reasons why I failed the drivers exam that was not told to me by the instructor: going over the speed limit multiple times, passing unsafely, etc. None of these events happened, much like running the stop sign. This was obviously a scam to double dip in payment to make up for losses during the Covid-19 crisis. Don't go to these people and get screwed like I did. I will be going through someone else to take the drivers exam.

Negative experience: Went for a class B licence and failed the test right away having a box truck just under weight.. They charged me half of what it cost...when I was only there less then 5 minutes I wouldn't give themany stars but I blame myself for not asking what they needed besides my licence permit and vehicle registration and insurance... My fault for not having a box truck that weighed 500 lbs more

Fantastic experience: Incredible. Best experience for a new driver. I can't say enough about the personality of the instructor. He eased my sons anxiety by being really relaxed, taught mistakes without being harsh. Super knowledgeable about driving laws. Didn't feel rushed. I highly recommend.

They were very responsive to messages, answered all my questions before the actual road test, made sure I knew all the documents to bring and have reminder text messages, have flexible scheduling, clearly explained the expectations of the test while driving, and they are professional yet extremely friendly.

Negative experience: Terrible experience! My daughter was given no information about how points would be deducted for her parking attempts. The “teacher” wasn’t in the car while she was parking, so when she did her parallel parking or backing in and she got no feedback from him, she did it again. Little did we know that points were being deducted when she did it again. The teacher didn’t even let my daughter go on the road. $60 gone!!! DO NOT USE AK SERVICES! In real life, you’re allowed to correct a parking job, so why can’t a 16 year old kid?

Positive experience: My son took his driver's test this afternoon and I was very pleased with the instructor. I was given A K services name from another parent @ Hartland HS. The instructor gave helpful feedback to my son and even sketched out the areas of the road he needed further practice. I would absolutely recommend A K services.

Negative experience: Worst experience thus far. My daughter nailed her parallel parking the first time and he said that she needed to "move over some" which cost her a point. Then he said that she needed to "exaggerate" when looking in her blind spot and counted her off that too. I will never go back to this company.
