Premier Truck Driving Schools: Reviews

Positive experience: OK CR.ENGLAND ISN'T A BAD CHOICE TO GET YOUR FOOT IN THE DOOR OF TRUCK DRIVING. IT'S A SCHOOL. ONCE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR TRAINING ABOUT 6 MONTHS MOVE ON THERE ARE COMPANIES THAT WILL PAY YOUR SCHOOL COST AND PAY YOU BETTER. DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SCHOOL IT'S YOU IF YOU'RE STILL THERE. YOU'RE THERE TO GET YOUR LICENSE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO STAY WELL IT CAN'T BE THAT BAD. THERE ARE NO PERFECT TRUCKING COMPANIES. ONCE YOU GET YOUR LICENSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORK FOR THEM GO TO ANOTHER COMPANY THAT WILL HIRE NEW STUDENTS AND PAY BETTER SOME COMPANIES PUT IN A 4 STAR HOTEL WHILE GOING THROUGH ORIENTATION.

Negative experience: Very unorganized. A lack of instructors. Very rushed process. Inadequate equipment. Trucks constantly breakdown. Lodging subpare and lack of eating places near the motel. They do not provide meals. You are taken to Wal-Mart twice a week only. Don't miss the trip are you will have to wait togo until next time.

Fantastic experience: If you only read these reviews to form your opinion of CR England and the driving school, that is your first mistake. The only people writing bad reviews are the one's that can't pass the written test, don't listen to instructors, and try to take the easy way by going to the online CDL practice tests. They will fail. I passed everything on my first try. You must study. You must be committed. And you must listen more than you talk. Everyone isn't cut out for this, it's not easy. They don't hand out participation trophies. But they do bend over backwards trying to help you get your CDL and are not trying to fail you. This is a continuation of my original review. It is now June of 2019. Been here since December. I am not staying. They were bragging about "the biggest pay increase in company history " back in January. Not much of a pay increase. I have had one check over $1000.00 since I've been here. The only reason I'm still here is I can't afford to pay off the $6000.00 note plus 18 percent interest. There are a lot of far less expensive options available to get your CDL. Most are around $1000.00 to $1200.00 with better training. CR England has a lot of people training that only have 6 months experience. That's nowhere close to enough experience. I have 26 years driving trucks. I let my CDL go 5 years ago and had to get it back. Luckily, it will be paid off in September and I'm outta here. Check out other options before you put yourself in that much debt.

Fantastic experience: They try to work with students. They expect everyone to be an adult.

Fantastic experience: Let me start off by saying I’m writing this review Laing in the sleeper of my truck (pic below of my truck) I don’t normally write reviews but I thought this was needed to maybe put some minds at ease this place is great but it’s only as good as you make it... I had a blast here made a really good friend here that I’m still friends with. Yes the recruiter on the phone tells you “paid training” and he’s not lying like everyone thinks... yes the training part is paid but your not in training at the school your in school... your not hired yet your in an interview process so of course your not getting paid to go to school I want you to name one college that pays you to go to school... no one pays you to go to school is my point. I passed my tests first try and less than a week after passing I was out on a truck with my trainer then I finished training and now I’m out on my own truck so hard work pays off but your the only one that can put in the work so don’t BS while your there just do what they say and you’ll be very successful. Also that review down below that says something about getting pay advance bigger than your paycheck... brother idk what your doing but a pay advance is $80 so if that’s bigger than you paycheck your not a good driver... gotta drive to make money not sit at truck stops all day just a tip for you buddy cause I can tell you that what I make is a hell of a lot more than $80 but then again I’m actually running my truck so guys don’t listen to that idiot he probably doesn’t even drive or if he does he doesn’t know what he’s doing...

Positive experience: Average at best. For the most part the instructors are very friendly and helpful. The admins on the other hand can be extremely rude. You want to use your time there as best you can because there are many other students there needing time to practice. When you're at the backing range, there's only 4 trucks. Half the time they'll be broken. Students will cut in line and at first that won't seem like a big deal until you've been standing there for 5 hours only have practiced backing up once. School is very old. Needs to be updated for sure. I didn't stay at the hotel but heard terrible things about it. I passed everything first time. Good luck.

Positive experience: I'm going to start off by saying, It is what you make of it. If you want to be successful, you have to study. I went here on the class beginning on December 3rd and got my CDL after only 3 1/2 weeks, passed my CDL exam on the 26th. The school will provide you with the materials and the instructors will push you, bit it boils down to you. If your not willing to put in the time and effort you will find yourself stuck here for a very long time, 9 weeks or more in some cases. For my permit test, I studied, passed my permit test 1st time scoring excellent on all 4 questions only missing 3 out of all of them. Thats week 1. Week 2, the range. You will learn how to pre trip, again something you can study on. Also during this 2nd week you will learn basic backing maneuvers, this is the hands on part. This here is the main reason this place missed the 5th star is because the equipment breaks down often, a big inconvenience at time but is understandable. Week 3, you continue back and then road tests. Apply yourself here, you are in control. After this you basically wait for your cdl test date which is done onsite by the schools 2 examiners who get thru about 10 per day. Like I said the school is what you make of it. The instructors here will teach and guide you, they will motivate you but nobody is going to hold your hand. If you study hard you will succeed, if you're slacking by hanging out talking or leaving early while everyone is back learning, dont be suprised when you fail that test several times. Be positive, study, and you will get what you came for... That CDL.

Negative experience: Everyone has a horror story about this school. This place is an absolute joke. They advertise 17 days when in reality they only have one tester and 50+ new students every week. Try more like 6-8 weeks. They advertise paid training but what they mean is that they will have you sign a contract that says you agree to pay 6k (at 18%) to go to school there and that they will pick up the tab if you stay for a year. They don’t pay you but will give you detailed information on how you can get food stamps so you can eat. The office manager and the CNA who collect your urine have a piss poor attitude. The boss Jon is a buffoon. If you make it through training you will probably have a trainer whom has little experience being that most people part with CR England quickly and you will get to split 24 cents a mile. That’s right you get 12 cents a mile. Google truck driver pay and decided if that’s a good number. After training you are forced to team drive with another student for six months. Depending on who you are teamed with that can be a good thing or horrible. Finally, if you do choose to go here and get your CDL just know there are several companies out there that will gladly pay your tuition debt, pay you well and treat you like a human. Update. I have read several comments regarding negative posts as people who failed their tests and couldn't pass the school. I passed everything on my first attempt. It's been over a year since I attended school and I know 1 person that's still with CR England. Everyone else, including myself, found better paying companies that have tuition reimbursement.

Ruben Bryant 6 years ago

Positive experience: School was fine. Hotel was crappy. Luckily I received a good room where everything worked and was clean.

Reymundo Arispe 7 years ago

Negative experience: Worse experience ever im still here and going on my 6th week with no test schedule. Dont listen to the recruiter about it being 17 days its a lie, plus this school sucks once you are in the backing range they have 1 instructor for 70 students. Not the mention their is only 2 test examiners and one quit last week but then decided to come back. Really look else where unless this is ur last option. Good luck on ur decision.

Negative experience: Please stay away from C R England. I'd not recommend it at all....they've the worst service ever...but if you want to go there and watse your time you'll definitely getting something not worth of your time. I've applied with them as an experienced driver CDL class A holder.... C R England put me in orientation I even passed the road test with 95 out of 100 score. But they disqualified me for no reason and it doesn't matter that I've provided everything....Ohh my goodness please please please stay away from them they're nothing but bullshiting there I'd say that place is a joke a garbage and so unprofessional.

Cristian Figueroa (Tex) 7 years ago

Negative experience: The hotel is not bug infested but it is old and in need of major repairs. The school is fine, they have 1 goal in mind GET YOU YOUR CDL. Instructors know how to get you to pass the test, listen and do what they say and you have a great chance of getting your license.

Tanveer Hameed Khan 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: Instructors are Awesome it is a good place to get trained, i could not make it to get my CDL it was my failure not instructors, for new people i definitely recommend CR England I had a Instructor Mr. Brian he pays attention to every single student.

Ahmed Alaydi 7 years ago

Negative experience: Is more then 17 days is 4 or 5 weeks And the contract is 9.000 something

Charles Williamson 7 years ago

Positive experience: I have been out almost three weeks and only one pay check also there is alto they don't tell you about how you get paid very upsetting put out up front

M3 dunkman 7 years ago

Positive experience: Just completed the school. I had a good experience. It really depends on had bad you want your CDL? If your like me minor things will not deter you from the end goal. The instructors are good people that are there to see you succeed. This school will give you a opportunity when all the others turn you down yes you might be in a year contract but that's a year of experience to move of to other opportunities. The hotel is not as bad as what reviews say I've had cool roommates that I'd leave some of my belongings when I'd go home on the weekend and it all still be here when I return. There's no bed bugs they clean the rooms daily. All in all I've I recommended several people to come a friend starts this Sunday. O the school is longer then 17 days if you don't have your CLP before you get here it's a total of 21 Days if you pass the written on at least the 2nd try and you for the 1st.

Thorough Texan 7 years ago

Positive experience: I completed their CDL training and received my license. Everything was as the recruiter stated and promised. I will admit, the practice time in the truck on the backing range was very very minimal and needed more time and their are too few instructors. But overall, it was a decent experience. Now time to check out their trainers on the road.

J. V 7 years ago

Negative experience: RUN! STAY AWAY! Stay away from this company. They will screw you over. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING. They will get you to sign a contract without letting you read. You won't get paid the amount they told you, it'll always be different. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. It's not worth being away from family and to not make enough to provide for them.

Foster Coxe 7 years ago

Positive experience: I am currently a trainer at C.R England. So, I have been through this school personally, then iv been through phase 1, phase 2, phase 2 LEAD, and then made it to Trainer status. Let me tell you how it's gonna go down for you. **Training** Okay, first you will get your hotel. It's not the best hotel in the world, but I did NOT see bed bugs, nor did I hear any complaints from other people. The next business day, you will go to school with about 50 other people packed on 2 busses, unless you wanna drive your own personal car. Then You will do drug test, which will clear out at least 5 to 7 people. The next people to go home are the ones who don't wanna sign the contracts. Around 10 to 15 people. After all that stuff though, you will begin the paper work part of it. For about a week, you will learn all the rules of the truck life, how to drive safe, ect. Then you will go to the DMV to test to get your *learning permit* CDL This is where the 3rd group of people don't make it because they fail the tests. Around 5 to 10 people. Then next week, once you get your learning permit, you will do your backing. Straight line, offset, and parallel parking. 2 to 3 people will fail at this. The next week after THAT, you will start driving on the road, learning how to shift the truck, doing your left and right turns, ect. Then... You will test. Good luck. After you pass your test, you will get your CDL Congratulations! **Phase 1** Now your making $10/hr for at LEAST 160 hours of drive time. Your trainer will show you how to do a 45/45 parking, he will evaluate you on your driving 1 time a week, and basically just help you sharpen your skills as a driver... LISTEN TO YOUR TRAINER, AND DO NOT QUESTION HIM. He is here to help you, it is his job. ***As a phase 1 , I earned about 500 to 600 a week BEFORE taxes***... After you 160 hours of driving you can choose to go home or you can go straight into **Phase 2** Now, at this point, you are no longer making $10/hr. You are making 28¢ per mile SPLIT between you and your partner. That means you get 14¢ per mile and so does he. But WAIT! You get 14¢ for EVERY mile the truck runs. Which means you'll drive for 10 hours or so, and you'll be getting paid... Then you will go to sleep in the back of the truck, and your partner will drive, and while your sleeping... Guess what? Your still getting payed. Yep, 14¢ a mile... ***As a phase 2 I earned anywhere from 500 to 800 a week*** Now, your phase 2 (second seat) will last for 100 hours of drive time. Then you will become **Phase 2 LEAD** As a phase 2 lead, on your 5th month of driving, you will earn 18¢ for EVERY MILE THE TRUCK RUNS. Remember the getting paid to sleep we talked about a second ago? Yeah, this applys here as well. Uh... Not much to say about phase 2 lead, really, other than just to say that you will be helping out the lesser phase 2 guys, and you will be given your own truck to drive. (Not solo, you cant drive solo until after 6 months of driving) ***as a phase 2 lead I earned anywhere from 600 to 900 a week BEFORE taxes*** **TRAINER** okay, so at this point, you have seen A LOT. You don't really have problems parking the truck, you have masterd the art of trip planning, and you know how to operate the Qualcomm really well. Up to this point, every mess up you did in the past has made you stronger as a driver... And there have been A LOT of mess ups.... LOTS... You are now training the phase 1 dudes. They just got their CDL and they are willing to listen to about 75% of what you try to teach them. Have fun... However, they pay is nice. The best paycheck iv had BEFORE taxes in one week? A little over $1700. The worst paycheck as a trainer BEFORE taxes? About $750 **Summary** If you are willing to work hard, if you are tenacious... If you DONT give up, even after VERY seriously thinking about quitting... And it WILL come. You WILL think about quitting. But don't... Just hold on, man... Be patient. Then you really and truly CAN make the money you want out of this company. Y'all be good, and good luck!!

Negative experience: They're putting my husband through hell because he's stuck in their bs contract. They mislead you with everything they say. School was longer than 17 days. They don't tell you in the beginning that school is week days only. The hotel is trash and has bedbugs with sketchy roommates. Once you finish the school you go out for 30 days right away. You have to fight to get back home! My husband and i had a wedding reception coming up and they only allowed him 3 days back home and he had to leave again. They tell you that you're gonna go out for two weeks in your phase two but, last minute turn it into 30 days. If you request to come home they will screw you over and you will finally make it back after fighting with them. The pay fluctuates. The managers suck, the trainers suck. They are very disorganized. The only reason my husband still is working for them now is because we have a baby on the way. I keep convincing him to stay until he can find something local. If he does quit i can't blame him. Don't trust Cr. England! These people giving them 5 stars have had a good experience but read the rest of the reviews. Numbers don't lie.

FlyingStars xo 7 years ago

Negative experience: This is not a good school to attend, they let anyone become a trainer so they have unqualified trainers, the staff is rude and unhelpful. Recruiters lie, it speaks for itself go and you’ll find out how crappy it really is. 0 star hotel, no food or nothing.

Travis M 8 years ago

Negative experience: Crappy hotel, limited drive/practice time, meals are Not provided no matter what the recruiters say, driving instructor who think teaching involves screaming and cursing you, and a pay scale that magically gets smaller when they try to rush you through the paperwork. Not worth the time and stress, there's better companies out there.

Fantastic experience: I went to Cedar Hill School almost 2 years ago. Best choice I ever made. As with any career change, it was challenging and it took me out of my comfort zone. I completed my 9 month contract and with hard work, it has been a complete success. It does get hard on the road, especially the 1st year. However if you stick with it, you too will see it is very rewarding.

Negative experience: They told something on the phone when you have rising everything change

Alhareth Alani 8 years ago

Negative experience: RUN AWAY DON'T SIGN ANY PAPERS !!! , they will tell you that the minimum yearly salary is 39000 but you will sign this!!! 28000!!, Don't let them fool you

Patti Bobo 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: If you looking for a change in a career...this is THE PLACE to start! Yes there are alot of bad reviews about CR England...however, they are all BS. Mike is the most awesome teacher! He will keep you laughing though out the class. He is very knowledgeable in this profession. Everyone at the school is awesome and very caring people. However, you must come here to work and learn..not play around! It will be fast and it will be tough but if you pay attention, you will be a sucess! Thanks guys for everything!

David Vergara 8 years ago

Negative experience: If I could give them a negative 5 star I would, but with that being said.........I had let my license lapse and I wanted to get back in a truck, I looked into them {Big Company) I had great success with Werner but I knew C.R. Crapland had a school. Recruitor lied and I made sure I wrote down the pay because I had to explain it to the THEN wife. I got to the hotel and it was horrific, bad musky smells, carpet was sticky, front door had a 1/2 inch gap under it, but they a POOL........wait I mean an algae infected, half empty pool with a pool furniture in it. Got to the school the following morning singed paperwork, got physicals and handed books all that took one complete day. Next day they crammed things in peoples head, Me and my good friend Micheal already had experience and knowledge so it wasn't to hard but other people couldn't keep up. That Thursday we took our test so we could "learn" to back up. Learning to back up was a J-O-K-E. 3 instructors for 24 people. Mike and I took several guys under our wing gave them tips, pointers and hints. When the Russian instructor was getting after some guys for not doing it right Mike and I jumped in the truck to help out. ALL the guys. After a while everyone in out group did well. ME and the Russian had words on how he should train and talk to people as if they were humans. It was like that until the following week when we actually drove the truck. it seemed like the school was about 17 days that's with Sat and Sun. We had to talk to the director that week and said he would hire me once I got my CDL for helping out and having the guys "understand the science of backing up" UMMM OK SURE!!! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. One other thing I feel bad for the guys that get their work visas with them.

wht1992 8 years ago

Negative experience: Would give zero if i could...have to wake up at 0400 to leave at 0500 to be in school almost 3 hours before the "instructors" even get there! If you dont have a little past knowledge of what driving a tractor trailer entails, you just are setting yourself up for failure. Its true that they will cram everything they can and forget about wanting 1 on 1 time. Alot of people struggle to drive, not because there bad but because they dont get the time they need to truly get comfortable with shifting and backing. Expect to stay in a ZERO star hotel room that hasnt been cleaned since the 1900's and bunking with questionable characters. Expect a DOT drug test and physical test upon arrival on Sundays. That weeds out 50% of the crowd. BEWARE OF THE CONTRACT SIGNING!!! It is done rapidly without time to read what the hell youre signing. I was lucky to survive the 9 month contract but unfortunately many dont. It does take tremendous sacrifice to make it here. Physically, Mentally, and spiritually. My suggestion is go to another school and company where they at least put you in a one star hotel and is better organized.

Paul Berry 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: Love the instructors especially Mike he is a great guy with a comedy entourage (he will make you laugh multiple times a day) and he will tell you everything damn thing he knows to make you a safe professional on the road! The only way you will succeed is if you have the right attitude. Don't listen to those ugly rumors step up to the plate and give your best!

Ed Jr Naq 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: CR England are best class

Stephen Franco 8 years ago

Negative experience: The worst school I've ever been to. All the awful rumors you here about C.R. England are true. The recruiters will lie to you and tell you absolutely ANYTHING to get you to sign up so they can get their paycheck. The stories other students told about their recruiters are even worse than mine, mine told me you only need to bring a little bit of extra money to survive, that is absolute bull because the amount of time and money you spend there you will need at least 400 dollars to even make it a month there and on top of that my recruiter told me that try have dedicated routes that I would be able to come home everyday and I live in Houston, there are no routes in Houston that are a daily errand. Other peoples recruiters told them they'd get paid while they're at school that is an absolute lie. They send it way too many students each week to be trained with way too little instructors, resulting in rushed time and very limited time behind the wheel, most students get about 10 hours behind the wheel before they're rushed off to the dps with an extraordinarily high failure rate. The instructors are sub par and don't help you out, they give you one example how to do something and then expect you to figure it out, they don't help you when you ask for help or when you ask what you are doing wrong. We had 2 days to learn parallel parking, 1 day to learn how to do straight line back up, 1 day for offset parallel parking and 1 day for pretrip inspection and anywhere between 3 and 5 days of actual on the road drive time and mind you you may only be behind the wheel for and hour a day because of how many students there are and how few trucks and instructors there are and the instructors are absolute garbage. CR England has one of the highest accident rates of any other trucking company in the nation with I believe I read somewhere 1 in 3 of first year drivers will get into an accident within they're first year of driving. The motel they make you stay at is atrocious too, it's dirty smells like mildew and mold, and has numerous healthcode violations. There is nothing in proximity to the motel and the rooms have Wi-Fi that doesn't connect to your device ro cell service anywhere in or around the hotel. This school is the most disorganized, understaffed, and misinformed school I have ever seen with no one ever seeming to know what's going on the next day. Go to Swift or some other trucking company because they at least pay you and feed you and don't train you or make you live in deplorible conditions like CR England does. You also have instructors like Daniel, who may seem like the nicest guy there, but that's a downright lie, hell talk so much mess behind your back cause he's too much of a coward to say anything to your face, if he doesn't feel like training you he'll make up lies to management to try and get you sent home.

Negative experience: how in the world does this have 4.1 stars I drive for this guys im stuck n a stupid contract im making poor money dont go to CR England

Robert Embry 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: In order to get the most out of the CR England's program you have to want to succeed, it's what you make of it. You will get everything you need to become a professional driver from the CR England program if that is what you came to get. I love my job and i enjoyed my school in Cedar Hill TX, great instructors great program and good times. I've been here going on 10 months and could not be happier. stay safe and slow down.

Erik A. 9 years ago

Negative experience: The CR England company is the same way. It takes a lot of patience and time to adjust. There is a long wait time by the time you get hired. I been off 2 trucks one trainer quit the other went solo. I'm left with117 hours waiting to be placed on another truck. The staff is negligent at CR England . You get 10 an hour that's it no miles when you are in training. I was hired 2-17 it is now 4-23 it is pitiful . I wouldn't recommend CR England do your research before enrolling into this school .

Darren Blackmon 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: I dont understand the negative reviews??, i went to cedar hill got my cdl and have ben out on the road just finished phase1., i think maybe your a bunch of cry babys that couldnt cut it. If you cant do it there is no shame in that, at least you tryed. Just leave it at that, no need for all the excuses and lies. Good luck man move on now, i heard wal mart was hiring.

joe gibbens 9 years ago

Negative experience: As a Past Driver Instructor for this school I tell you this is the by far the most disorganized school you can attend. Don't waste your time disbelieving this review. Call FFE or Swift!

Jimmy Ellis 9 years ago

Negative experience: I went to Cr England to get my CDL and trust me when i say this, Cr England is not a company you want to work for! They can help you get your CDL that's about it they are under staffed and there facility is really not all that, all they have is a small parking lot in back they use for a backing range. You will get very little drive time because they do not have enough trainers. I went to swift they have a better facility and lodging and they will feed you lunch every day! Cr England can't come close to that!!
