Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about Longmont Driving School:

Longmont Driving School is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and patient learning experience for drivers of all skill levels. Many students have praised the professionalism and friendliness of the instructors, highlighting how they help alleviate nerves and instill confidence. Jennifer, in particular, has received numerous positive mentions for her supportive teaching style, making students feel more at ease during their driving tests. Other staff, like Patrice, are noted for being accommodating and helpful, ensuring a smooth scheduling process.

Users have appreciated the informative communication regarding the driving process and the detailed feedback given post-test, which helps students understand areas for improvement.

  • Convenient online scheduling and prompt responses
  • Clear guidance on traffic laws and safe driving practices
  • A calm and supportive atmosphere during lessons
  • Opportunities to practice in different conditions, including snow

While many students have had excellent experiences, some have expressed concerns about specific instructors who they felt were overly critical or not as supportive. Additionally, the requirement for mask-wearing during driving tests and some perceived strictness in testing criteria have drawn mixed reactions. However, the overall sentiment remains positive, with many recommending the school for new drivers.

Overall, Longmont Driving School is a reputable choice for those looking to learn how to drive effectively and safely.

Negative experience: She deducted me for hand-over-hand and it literally says it’s an acceptable way to turn… wasted $80 because I wanted a sooner appointment. Just go somewhere else.

Longmont Driving School
Longmont Driving School

While hand-over-hand steering is acceptable, hooking the wheel is not. You were observed hooking the wheel (steering with one hand) during several turns, which did cost you points, but did not cause you to fail. Unfortunately, repeated incomplete stops and speeding will prevent you from passing the driving test, no matter where the test is performed.

It can be disheartening to not pass your driving test the first time. We trust that our explanation of the errors and traffic laws you violated will be beneficial for your next attempt. Please review the follow-up email we sent, as it contains information that should improve your success on the test.

For additional guidance, our website features a post titled "Guide to a successful Drive Test" which outlines the traffic laws, and includes the DMV grading criteria from the Colorado Driver Handbook. We also send all our applicants this link to our practical guide prior to the test: https://www.longmontdrivingschool.com/post/guide-to-a-successful-drive-test

Fantastic experience: I absolutely loved this place. Scheduled it with the guy at the phone and he was so kind with the scheduling process. And I absolutely LOVED Jenifer she was amazing I was nervous, and she helped my nerves by talking to me, and after she so kind with her advice. Love this place definitely recommend it.

Fantastic experience: This driving school is absolutely great, the instructors were super kind and friendly. The instructor for my 6 hours behind the wheel driving was super kind, we were having a lot of great conversations. Jennifer, my drive test instructor, is not what people say about her at all, she is very nice and professional and she even complimented my driving, I passed my drive test with ease. Lastly, Patrice, he was super kind when it comes to appointment scheduling and instructions, he was super tolerant hearing that I scheduled the drive test the wrong day, he let me do it on the day I was there which was super kind. He gave very good advice before the test and is just overall a super nice person. Overall, this driving school is absolutely amazing! Definitely recommended.

Fantastic experience: Great place: nice instructors, fair tests. If they can teach someone as nervous as me to drive they can teach anybody. Scheduling is very convenient. Longmont is also a great place to practice, not nearly as crowded as Boulder.

Fantastic experience: Everyone at Longmont driving school was great! I decided to book a 2H adult driving course. My driving teacher was Paul and he was absolutely amazing. Calm, knowledgeable and a great teacher. He guided me well and gave me useful tips. After his lessons I booked my exam, and passed it on the first attempt. What I like the most is that after the exam Jennifer took her time to go through everything we did together, and shared her tips to become an even better driver. This school is definitely 5 star for me: would recommend it to anyone!

Fantastic experience: I went to LDS for the driving test. Highly recommend. Their online website had all the information I needed and it was super easy to set up an appointment(they got me in next day!). Jennifer was my instructor, she was AWESOME! I was nervous at first but both Jennifer and the gentleman working up front were easy to talk to and explained everything perfectly, making it a much less stressful test. I could tell Jennifer was truly there to help us be the best drivers! I'll be using LDS for my kiddos when the time comes.

It is always disappointing when the results of a license test are not what you expected.

Drive test:
In order to fully understand what is covered and tested during a license test, please check the Colorado Driver Handbook, especially pages 1 & 2. Also, we send all our applicants a link to our practical guide before the test. We strongly recommend you read the handbook before you test again. There is also a version in Spanish: https://dmv.colorado.gov/drivereducation (https://dmv.colorado.gov/drivereducation). Your husband said that you had downloaded the manual, so please verify how the laws in Colorado are different from the ones from your home country.

Hand washing:
Each of our cars can be driven by up to 12-14 different people some days. Most people really appreciate that we do everything we can to keep the cars as germ-free as possible! We also try and keep our tester healthy and available to a larger number of clients.

Spanish:
A quick note to emphasize how much we care: our tester has started to learn Spanish last year to be able to better help applicants speaking only Spanish. We feel it’s important to help as many people as possible in their own language if we can. The test directions inside the car were given in Spanish, but that is not the problem here.

After the test, the results were in English, as our tester is not that advanced in Spanish yet. She gave the information to both you and your husband and asked him to translate for you in Spanish. She showed you pictures about the proper lane you need to turn into when joining a new road (the one mistake you recognized when it happened in the car). Speeding over the posted limit is against the law. Not stopping completely at red lights or stop signs is also against the law.
Your husband said he would explain that to you. HE suggested that you think of the tester, as if it were a police officer so that you would not do things that are against the law in Colorado. Part of the directions for the test are: “Do not do anything that is illegal or unsafe”. You may not break more than 2 traffic laws on the driving test in order to pass.

We hope you get a chance to read the breakdown we emailed about the traffic laws. It was in English, but we don’t have a Spanish version of
that yet.

Best of luck on a future test!

Negative experience: don’t go here. nit-picky. they will fail you for things they do not mention on the website or not knowing a speed limit when there’s no signs

Longmont Driving School
Longmont Driving School

Hi WarlockZ890 TTV,

Here's the link to our Guide to a successful Drive Test: https://www.longmontdrivingschool.com/post/guide-to-a-successful-drive-test
It's been on our website for more than two years now, and is one of our most popular pages! You were also emailed the same link when you scheduled your test with us.

The drive test measures your skill and knowledge of legal and safe driving practices. Traffic laws like signaling and speeding are not nit-picking. More than two traffic law violations will make your test unsuccessful at any driving school.

Negative experience: I held this in for the duration of my daughter's tests. Test driver is a joke and a condescending person. I felt had I voiced this she would have been failed on her final test. The masks while driving are a joke. I have 3 more children that will not be attending this driving school. My daughter passed today but was criticized for things I know she did not do. Avoid this placeunless you feellike being talked to like your stupid. Bad taste

Jason W 2 years ago

Negative experience: Don't pay to do your test here. If you didn't go to their school, you don't know what they will decide is against the rules. Some of the rules they docked my kid for are not in the handbook.

Positive experience: There is good, bad & just ODD with this school. The good: Great email communication, prompt classes, competitively priced, easy to find. My daughter felt like she learned useful skills. Scott, one of the instructors was great! The bad: After a 15 minute drive exam, the drive instructor Jennifer(I think) was SO condescending while going over test results!! My daughter literally had tears & was visibly shaken by the demanding questions she was barking at her. I’m all for going over the test with the students & parents.. but there is a right way and a wrong Way and this is definitely the wrong way!! And now for the ODD; You are not allowed to go into the building. They have a make shift wash station outside for the students to wash before the Drive. Some instructors wear mask and some don’t..Students are not required to …EXCEPT for the 15 min drive test …Apparently germs are only spread during the test? Overall we would still prob recommend the school, but maybe take the final test elsewhere..

Longmont Driving School
Longmont Driving School

Hi Man head!

In your review, you state that you NEVER used any of our services. I am confused why you left us a review if we NEVER tested/helped/ OR taught you. It seems very suspicious that you only have two reviews so far with this account: the first one to express how fantastic the class you had at another driving school in town, and this one, five days later (!!!), saying how sad you are that you can’t get into a driving class with us.

Our classes are indeed very popular in Longmont! Most families book their 30-hour driving class 2 to 6 months in advance. Sometimes when people wait until just before the class starts, they call us, and we are happy to add them to the waiting list. Most often, people on the waiting list get into the class.

Fantastic experience: I wish we had known about Longmont Driving School when my daughter was learning to drive. We purchased the full Complete Instruction Program for my son which included 30 hours of classroom instruction + permit test + 6 hours of behind the wheel training. Scheduling all of the sessions were a piece of cake with their online system. The classroom sessions are loooong, but the content was presented clearly and my son said the instructor was great. All of the driving sessions were easy to schedule through their online system, were always promptly on time, and we appreciated thorough and clear communication from the instructor. I had a few questions pop up throughout the process and they were always very quick to reply to my inquiries. A++!

Negative experience: Because I want the review to be helpful and constructive- let’s start with the good things we experienced here. The Good: This business does a good job at communicating and scheduling drives/tests. They are prompt on emailed (very detailed) feedback and are trying to teach driers to be safe. My son who took the learning portion said it was okay. They offered my son time to practice driving in the snow before his test- which I thought was nice. Also- they charge $75 for to retake a driving test, most places will give you a cheaper rate on the 2nd one. This does doesn't unless you press and ask for it, which we were grateful. Our Bad: We would call this place, “The Karen’s Driving School.” Why? Because most of our interactions were demeaning and left our sons less confident to get behind the wheel. As of November 2022 you still need to wear a mask if you drive with this place. My son wears glasses and they fog up when he drives and wears a mask. School operators can wear a mask but making people wear masks is pretentious and could be not safe. Their hyper-focus on the small rules and the demeaning way of teaching made our sons less confident and nervous drivers. I get driving with new drivers is stressful, but how you communicate matters, being sharp and rude doesn’t help the drivers you are trying to teach, its not the “tough-love” type of teaching, its belittling and rude, especially from Jennifer. DON’T take your drivers test from them. Taking a test from them (their demeanor and tone) is like taking it from scariest teacher in the school. One son passed- by a narrow margin and as they got back I heard the instruction basically say, “You passed, but boy you were lucky to pass, I could have failed here, here, and here”…that kind of teaching doesn’t instill confidence in a new driver. They also took our 2nd son through circumstances he’d never faced before during his driving test which led him to failing, which we don’t dispute. When we showed up for the retake, before we got in the car Jennifer berated my son for not passing the test the time before and how he should have known and done better. Gratefully he passed so we don't have to interact with this school again. If you want your learner to learn from to drive from a Karen-type personality that makes your driver overly scared and not confident then is the place to go.

Negative experience: I have to say rude and I really am amazed in a actual dmv you are told to adjust your mirrors and place your seat belt but also adjust your seat before you are to actually start your vehicle I was told the complete opposite in which I was told to start the vehicle before I put my seat belt on and I was to listen to her instructions demandingly knowing in fact she was wrong I hope this will reach the corporate office sadly to say she never disclosed her name I can tell you she is a heavy set Caucasian women which I believe that customer service is needed and you should be greeted with your instructors name I will not return to this office not Longmont driving school thank you

Longmont Driving School
Longmont Driving School

Hello! We are sorry that you did not have a successful test result today.

The current rules we have in place are the result of thousands of licence tests, and all follow the DMV requirements. If you need to move the seat after being seat-belted, the seatbelt can then become too tight and uncomfortable. Also, our mirrors and lights safety checks can’t possibly be completed before the vehicle is started.

We hope that the detailed debrief and the follow-up email sent after your test will help you for your next test.

Fantastic experience: We have 4 children, our 3rd just finished her drive with instructor time at Longmont Driving School. We used 2 different schools with our oldest kids. Longmont Driving School was hands down the best of the 3. The instructors were so professional, helpful and extremely thorough. The entire experience was wonderful. The other schools were not bad, just nowhere near the level of professionalism and care and attention we received from LDS. We will definitely be bringing back our youngest in 2 years when it’s her turn.

Fantastic experience: My son has finished his 30 hours of instruction and permit test with the Longmont Driving School and we still get to do the drivers instruction portion. What I really appreciate about their program is how many reminders they provide the parents and students and how clear they are through every step about their process. As busy working parents juggling lots of different responsibilities the staff here really took the burden off of us to keep track of one more thing. It really made this process as easy as it could be.

Fantastic experience: Outstanding experience all the way through. My daughter turned 16 yesterday and the driving class and instructor time was all during Covid restrictions. I can't say enough great things about their adapting during challenges, the ease of scheduling, the student driver magnets for the car and providing all the confidence we needed that my daughter would be prepared and ready to get her license immediately. Thank you Longmont Driving School, and your amazing instructors. I refer all my friends here without hesitation and will continue to do so.

Negative experience: Failed my son in the last 10 seconds of his driving test for not signaling to enter their parking lot at the end of the test. The entrance to their lot is at the top of a short cul-de-sac past all other driveways -- it was not a mystery to any other drivers as to where he was going! Jennifer was almost smug in the post-drive evaluation. Nothing ridiculous or outrageous, but not kind either... Afterward, we sat and watched the next six drivers that entered the lot not signal. You'd think this might be something that happens enough to prompt some mention before starting, but that would be bad for revenue. And before the "it was cumulative errors and violations of law" canned response, fast-forward three days and ZERO hours of practice later and my son passes his test at DriveSafe with 10 points and no law violations. I would recommend another facility where the instructors don't have a financial interest in failing you. Had a great experience at DriveSafe in Louisville with Dustin this morning.

Longmont Driving School
Longmont Driving School

Hello! It's always a better experience to pass a license test than it is to fail it. I'm glad your son passed his subsequent drive test! We're always happy to give applicants the same detailed debrief I gave your son after their tests (pass or fail). The goal is to help all students improve and become more informed and safe drivers. And even though the rules are all the same, every test is different. It looks like it worked!

Failure to signal is a traffic law, and if it is the 3rd one during that test, it would indeed be a failing test at any driving school. The instructions and hand gesture he was given told him to turn left into the parking lot, and per the Colorado Driver's handbook (page 22), any driver must signal when leaving a street and entering a parking lot. Without the two other traffic laws broken a few minutes prior, that one action would not have resulted in a failed test. Also, as much as you wish your son had been helped, per the DMV, any help given by an instructor to an applicant before or during a test results in a failure of that test. Most students do use their left turn signals when entering our parking lot.

Fantastic experience: My son has his driving test today, his experience was fantastic. I appreciate the attention to detail by the instructor and her ability to help my son relax.
