Fantastic experience: My experience with Al Soranos professional Driving school was great. They are easy to schedule lessons with and accommodate your schedule. My instructor was Vinny. He has a ton of experience in commercial driving. Great guy and his method of teaching worked the best for me. Would highly recommend this school for commercial driving lessons and Vinny as an instructor.

Fantastic experience: I strongly recommend requesting Vinny as your instructor. I took a few classes here to remove the E restriction off my CDL, after going through a few instructors he definitely will give you the confidence skill, and knowledge for your test!

Negative experience: Don't take your WorkForce grant here they will treat you like a welfare recipient. They will group your lessons, or you'll just loose them. They lied to me about their own policies and the time frame I had to reschedule my road test. I've heard the white older male talk about the program and how he believed it was not enough for people to learn( Assumption ) At some point, I was asked to end my session earlier to help them, and my gullibly self agreed. I honestly believe they sabotage you. The instructor waited until my last days to look under the hood and talk about inspection/parts. I wasted time with the lady instructor screaming out hazard while driving until my last lesson. Because paying customers first!!! Out of a two week window ...I had to group 3 lessons the day before my road test. Which they scheduled on my behalf on the second day of training!?!! They don't know if you're gonna be ready.. They really have no concern or pride in the matter . Especially if you have a workforce grant!!! In fact, they are gonna double book your lessons & speed you into failing. Then, I will tell you about another grant to apply for. My last three lessons book all together I called early from the hospital to explain that I may not be on time. The woman said no problem as if they weren't gonna take every grant hour I was late for. They pretended to understand my situation and work with me. Instead of just being straightforward. When I got there an hour late, I engaged in a conversation with the instructor about my son and her daughter about epilepsy inside the bus Then she looked at her watch and said we don't have much time left.... After that, non lesson I asked to reschedule the road test . I was told I couldn't by a Spanish looking female with salt and pepper hair at the desk. One of the Sorano 's heard as I asked multiple times Later, I realized their policy said 24 hours before, and that's what I gave, and they flat out Lied. I wasted a once in a lifetime grant on what I already knew about driving.. In fact, I realized that the instructor herself used a typical teaching method that basically makes you nervous a lot of screaming and basic information. I recognized it from another driving school that I paid to teach me backing in trucks for a USPS postal driving course I was doing the next day. He did the same thing and was like, "You have to get more lesson, you are not ready.... I passed the next day!!! I relearned a valuable life lesson. Read policy and enforce both ways . Trust nothing outside of writing . No helping the company out because he will step on ya! Never believe the big guy is gonna help or be a decent human to you because agai, he will step on ya and ya kids. Those forms they give you at the end !! Fill them out, honestly. Write what they actually do with you that day because the form won't have hazard checking and driving all day and don't fall for the false caring act. Hope I save someone with this!!!!

Fantastic experience: Vinny is their greatest assets! He was the only instructor to train me the correct and best way. He’s the only instructor that taught me the correct engine inspection. Vincent expertly explained how to maneuver and navigate traffic. I passed my road test ONLY after following his instruction. If you don’t want to waste your money with Sorano’s then ask specifically for Vincent as your instructor. He’s is genuinely invested in seeing you succeed. The other instructor was wrong in too many areas. Trust Vincent!

Fantastic experience: My experience with AL Sorano’s professional driving school was a very welcoming and satisfying experience . I want to give a very special shout out to my instructors Vinny and Robert who were two instructors who supported me all the way to pass my exam and accumulate my CDL drivers license.

Fantastic experience: Just got my class A license friday the 16th of AUG! Shouts out to the ladies in the front nancy and daisy are awesome! Vinny is very articulate as a instructor and real world which i appreciate because we need practical scenarios. Roberto is also very good and keeps things simple, hes amazing on pretrip inspection. Whomever you get your in good hands! Im from yonkers NY and a veteran so i believe in structure and they have that just show up and be a sponge soaking up all knowledge and questions they will prepare you for test day and squeeze out the knowledge you soaked up throughout training! Im living proof!

Negative experience: Sorano and sons horrible training. I did my edlt for 300 dollars. Instructor Debbie came in forgot her notes. Pretty much sat there telling her what I know. No help from her she had no lesson planner and we thumbed thru the book. I got nothing out of the class with Debbie. The busses are way outdated. I failed my first test after doing my lab test correctly. If you use their old bus the parking break doesn't pop out. It barely moves and will make you second guess yourself. But their vehicles are in bad shape. Old and outdated. Instructors and staff seem like they are looking for their next high, versus teaching you anything!!! I learned more off YouTube than with their instructors. They have 1 valid instructor Vinny!!!! He's great!!! As far as I'm concerned, I spent nearly $2000 dollars with Sorano and Sons driving school. And learned nothing from them!!! They are out for your money. They don't teach you properly, so you can come back and pay them for lessons and rent their old beat up truck again. You are just a cash grab to them. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone!!! Take your hard earned money elsewhere. THEY SUCK!!!!

Positive experience: I really wanna thank the staff at Al Sorano's Driving School. Nancy and all the ladies were very nice and helpful throughout the whole process, not to mention Vinny and Roberto were awesome!!! Besides my drive to learn they were a huge reason why I'm in the position I'm in today with a great job driving OTR. SO kudos to everyone there!

Fantastic experience: Al Sorano's professional driving school has given me the opportunity to expand my horizon in gaining the knowledge to become a safe and effective commercial truck driver. The services that we're provided when I attended were clear, direct, and precise. I have obtained my Class B license with little or no difficulty at all and have continued to stay with their great staff to ensure that I obtain a class A license to drive tractor tractors. I recommend this driving school to anyone who has future aspirations in the driving field!.

Fantastic experience: I would like to share my good experience with Vinny helping me acquire my CDL Class A. Vinny tackled my weak point which was reversing and never gave up till I got it. The result was I passed and got my class A! Thanks Al Soranos but most importantly thanks to to Vinny!

J M 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I want to share my experience with you all. Based on prior reviews I was reluctant to sign up for this school. About a year and a half ago I met Vinny and had a small conversation he said you should get your Class A. It wasn't on my radar at all but this guy left a lasting impression on me. Finally I say let me give them a shot based on my interaction with Vinny. Fast forward to last month. I sign up with them and have a training session with Vinny. He immediately made me feel comfortable, confident and went above and beyond to make me a proficient, skilled, professional driver of a CMV. If you're paying out of pocket like me and want the bang for your buck. Go see Vinny. I'm sure all the instructors were wonderful but I had the most experience with him and would highly recommend him. Also shout out to Nancy she was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. I passed my CDL Class A in Manual today. Good luck everyone.

Carleto Blessed 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: There an instructor there name Vinny, he made the experience easy for me at first I had problems with the manual trucks. Then I got Vinny as an instructor and he showed me a few techniques to change the gears without the truck stalling out in the middle of the street.

Fantastic experience: On my first day I met with Vincent who is one of the instructors. He told me (I would love to work with you). Which is something you don’t hear very often, which convinced me. He was very informative, patient, and his style of teaching worked well for me. I had a few different teachers due to time constraints and I learned from each one. They also have a great office staff. The school is geared towards you passing your road test. You must put in the time and ask questions too. I passed on my first try. Would recommend the school.

Michael “Inappropriate Stone” Rivera 1 year ago

Negative experience: Even though I did learn something during my ELDT class I do believe they overcharged for it. I was also literally the only student within the class during the ELDT time period. The teacher did answer all of my questions which was a plus to me but the school bus was already locked up after the ELDT. I really wanted to have a walk around the bus for a proper pre trip but that didn’t happen. The instructor pointed at the bus through the locked gate so if you guys failed your pre trip I could understand. The ELDT ran me 300$ and I wanted a full size school bus and they don’t have a full size bus. The front desk pointed at the small bus and said that’s the best that they could get and I quote (paraphrasing) “You’ll get your CDL with that bus too and it makes no difference”. I responded with training on a full size truck/bus is a world of difference compared to a short bus/ truck so I had to go elsewhere where I found out the ELDT was a fraction of the cost and that’s how I knew I was rip off. Other schools charge 75$ for the class and online for what I’m told is free, but I am a going in person type of student. Another note to add, I didn’t see any full sized truck or school bus which you need to be trained on. The school bus is the only automatic vehicle they have and you need an endorsement for it. Other schools have classes that are entirely cheaper. The trucks are in bad shape. There’s plenty of damage to their fleet of vehicles and they do charge a lot of money. RUN DOWN OF PRICES FOR A SMALL/SHORT SCHOOL BUS: ELDT cost me 300$ there’s a 400$ down payment, a additional 660$ for the classes I was going to go to do and an extra 400$ to rent out the school bus for the road exam. They do not provide the school bus for you. Keep in mind, if you fail the road exam you will need to pay again to rent the bus. If you read my review. Free feel to decide whatever is appropriate for you. I don’t recommend this school. After the full run down of the prices I saved some money going to another school and the school bus was provided to me. The list of prices and pictures of the short bus is below along with the other truck I seen at the time.

Fantastic experience: Vinny is an excellent instructor. I would highly recommend him for truck lessons. He should be paid more as an instructor I would imagine with a substantial amount of experience he brings and incorporates when learning with him!

Mike Engel 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: My instructor Vinny Longo was great.. Always prepared me for the day with the importance of saftey first. Then on to the pre and.post trip inspections. He was very detailed and if it weren't for him I don't think I would've passed my C.D.L test. Every time we went out on the road he would point out all hazards and significant objects that need to be learned.... Vincent made me feel comfortable to learn all what was needed and some....

Positive experience: I went to Al Sorano’s and had absolutely no experience with driving a manual truck. I had Vinny for an instructor and he was very knowledgeable and helpful with me learning my pre trip inspections, shifting gears, and most importantly PATIENT with me developing my skills as a trucker !

Fantastic experience: All the instructor are excellent in this school, specially “Vinny “, great instructor, the kind of instructor that will give you the confidence that you can do it and nothing is imposible, dedication to teach, and if you follow his guidance for sure you will past your road test at first try, just like me with my “CDL CLASS A”. Fantastic experience: The instructors are very knowledgeable. They all have different experiences to offer. They are very familiar with trucking and how to handle these vehicles. The office staff is great. They do their best to accommodate you with getting classes at your pace and your schedule. But be realistic when it comes to scheduling. For best results, try to schedule your lessons in advance. You have to trust the process of learning how to drive these vehicles. Trust what the instructors tell you.

Fantastic experience: To be honest I have no complaints I see all the bad and negative comments and I don’t see why…I recently passed my CDL class B with no problem the instructor Elliot was great I told him what I was good on and what I wasn’t good on and he helped me work on what I wasn’t good on and the day of the road test I crushed it and passed..I’m gonna be going for my class A next and I’ll be coming back…and as for the instructors I highly recommend Elliot he is super cool and very helpful.

Eleazar Becerra 3 years ago

Negative experience: Called to inquire about a possible future here . Receptionist on the phone placed me a hold for more than 5-7 minutes . Then automatically said I needed 300$ for a ELDT CLASS . Which can be done for free online . Then proceeded to tell me that classes were 120$ for 45 minutes of time and that it was in my best interest to take 90 minute courses so that’s about 240$ . Place sounds money hungry and sketchy . I decided to skip out on this poor experience ,First impressions are the best impressions.

Positive experience: Only ask for Robert. best instructor. All you need to know. It’s expensive so pay attention. $400 to rent the truck for the exam…$400

Negative experience: Don’t come here. The day of my test I failed because of the pre-trip I was missing information that my trainer didn’t gave me they didn’t even reach out to see what happen or anything.

Andre Kelly 3 years ago

Negative experience: This school is horrible I wish I could give it zero stars. Mike has to be one of the worse instructor there. You are going to do more errands, than actually learning how to drive. You’ll be lucky if you learn how to parallel park. Save your money and go else where.

Fantastic experience: They all nice people. I really like Frank the most.

Star Saleem 3 years ago

Negative experience: Horrific school and tgere vehicles are broken. They say you must get 80 points during your class, meanwhile the instructor has no grade sheet no papers or anything. The instructor also performed the air brake test wrong. Got up while the engine was building air pressure to check the inside of the bus. Dumbest way to do an airbrake inspectoon i ever seen

Fantastic experience: Al Sorano's Professional Driving school is an excellent place to get the best training for any CDL License Class A or B. The teachers there are dedicated on helping you pass your road test. You also have to do your part and study at home.

Negative experience: Felt like I could’ve had better instruction. I was recommended to go here but I don’t think this is a place for completely inexperienced drivers like myself who never had the privilege to drive a car in their life. I can’t even turn correctly. I wasn’t even allowed to move the steering wheel and try a few things on my own, like parallel parking, so I missed that chance of practice in some of my lessons. I need people who can work with me to get use to the feel of a car and not make me nervous. Also, the car is super dirty. When going for my test, I had nowhere to put my phone and card holder. Used tissues were all in the middle console and door. When I went to just throw it on the back seat, there was planks of wood and dirty rags. The car disgusted me. Now I’m going to have to wait until I can afford another several hundred dollars in lessons somewhere else. Don’t go to this school if you’ve never driven a car a day in your life. They don’t have the patience. Edit: To be honest, the instructor, Elliot, yelled at me a few times, loosing patience. Car was in horrible shape. And he never taught me about the rear view mirror. They also kept taking the wheel from me when I was learning how to park so I never got it. I’m at a new school now and they’re nicer, have better cars, and I was told I’m not bad. I have better control with the steering wheel than the car at this school. I even got the hang of parking by my third try on my first lesson with them. If you can go somewhere else, go! Don’t waste $600 like I did.

Negative experience: Horrible driving school, please don’t come here. Bad instructors they only care about taking your money. They don’t have any patience with you, and aren’t considerate at all. Fantastic experience: Great experience with the Driving instructors. Freddy , Ralph and My man Elliot. Elliot and I had much in common From the jump, he made me comfortable as a driver and gave me that push I needed to be where I am today . Every lesson he had me on my toes , and everyday I learned more. whether it was on a mistake or something i was practicing on. I cant thank that man enough for all his help. NOTE: i went in knowing close to nothing... going home and studying , practicing on your own time is VERY IMPORTANT. Dont expect to succeed if you're not willing to put in the work !!

Fantastic experience: Not sure why the bad reviews. I came from a different school and wasted 3k to almost learn literally nothing. Came here it was hands on with Freddy and Ralphy and they actually cared if I passed or not. Was really nervous day of test but passed on first tru. just make sure you keep yourself responsible for learning the pre trip inspection. Now I start my first otr job next week

Orlando Flores 5 years ago

Negative experience: I'm a trainer for a trucking company and I get students that come from this school not knowing anything. They can't drive, shift, read signs, or most importantly how to back a semi. They all say they test in a 45 ft truck and trailer when in the real world it's 53 ft. I'm doing the work for them teaching people that come out this school. I demand some of the money you steal. Worst school!

Lenin Vasquez 6 years ago

Negative experience: This has to be one of the worst driving schools for CDL in the city. I had trouble with them from day 1,they charge you $615 for the smallest driving package 2nd I was having a problem going to the 3rd training hour because I got sick and the secretary caught an attitude because I wanted another date., she said they could do nothing to transfer the day for the training and also didn't want to put the supervisor on the phone, then on the day of the actual test the drivers shows up doesn't even make eye contact to me to let me know who he is and refuses to let me practice before the test it was a very horrible experience. Especially since I wadwunemployed at the time.

Donald francis 6 years ago

Positive experience: I did exactly what my instructor taught me. I was the only one to pass my road test that day! Going back for my class A. No doubt in my kind I will be just as successful.

Mark Fernandez 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great school was able to obtain my CDL class A with only 5 lessons. Instructors take their time to explain what you need to pass the first time! Also they're very accommodating to fit your scheduling needs and you get a reminder call the day before. All the staff members were pleasant. I recommend to anybody who may need a lil or a lot of help to pass their road test

Negative experience: CDL A , WORST SCHOOL ...... This school is horrible , I never knew until I went to a job orientation recently . They don't teach you anything. No 45 , no 90 and no alley dock ! No log books , i made a complete ass of myself. How can you say it's a professional driving school and not teaching what is truly relevant to be successful in the field?? There packages are riduculous , their only aim is to make money in a short period of time. So you keep failing the road test and coming back to reschedule another . For CDL A , they train you on a 28 feet trailer. . Which long haul company gonna hire a recent grad with only minimum experience in driving a 28 feet trailer! !! ?? They are a total SCAM!!! I would recommend you taking your money and spending it elsewhere in order to get your money's worth!

Joe Anderson 7 years ago

Negative experience: I went to the school to study for a Class B in 2015 on a government grant. The learning experience was great and there was one particular instructor, who seemed to do exceptionally well in teaching and instructing. Recently, in 2017 and 2018, I pursued a Class A license and instructing from Al Sorano utilizing my own funds - world of a different experience not in their favor! 1. There's no more "star" instructors, from my standpoint. 2. I was told there would be no road test dates until March 2018, and so I asked them if they could find a road test date from the DMV before my permit expired in February. They scheduled a date for January 31, without notifying me and when I mentioned it was too soon, they said, well that's the date they gave me...That got messy, but when trying to resolve the situation, one of the men that answered the phone just got a really horrible attitude and was pretty certain in being judgmental to blame me for the whole situation. The details are so convoluted and the conversation was so warped and misleading and dishonest that I can't even remember the amount of twists that I was taken through. A few words come to mind to explain it - Abusive, Pompous, Arrogant, Deceitful, Liar, Malicious. I am currently on my way back to get refunded for the rest of my lessons. I would rather sit on my Class B for a while than to continue what was a trainwreck coming since 2017 in dealing with the man who I believe may be the manager. Strangely enough, the next place I intend to go to costs way more, but it's worth the peace of mind in my opinion. Can you get the training you need there to gain your license? Yes. Will you get abused there as a customer? Probably so.

Negative experience: Went to take a class b lesson here yrs ago paid $80 dollars just to hear instructor talk. Nothing in reference on how to inspect vehicle just complete bs for the whole hour. My point is anybody looking to get a class b you're better off going to a school bus company or academy at least you will be compensated for your time and trained thoroughly not ripped off by these crooks.

These instructors really don't show you exactly what you need to know to pass the road test. Each time I've taken the test I failed based on the fact that what they teach you aren't the key points of whats need to know in order to pass!! Instructors will tell you stories so the time can pass and next thing you know the lesson is over and all important stuff needed is left out!!!HORRIBLE,HORRIBLE STAFF,and the buses are in HORRIBLE shape. You will be entering at your own risk and its really not worth it!!!GO SOME WHERE ELSE!!!
