Fantastic experience: Adonis is a wonderful driving instructor, he let's me take my time so I could feel comfortable and feel confident. My lesson today was to drive straight on the road and watch out for curves while driving slow and steady on the road and not hold the wheel too hard. When I have to stop I must do it gently and let the car do it's thing.

Fantastic experience: I am a stroke survivor and wanted a evaluation, prior too resuming driving again I had attempted several other routes, but I ended up taking the Taggard DORES program, and I had a Great Instructor Austin , he was very upfront about safety and very professional, I feel very comfortable and safe after getting the a Passing Grade under professional instructions and eyes of Austin, this is a great program for those that have been forced too stop Driving for Medical or Safety concerns from family members or a Medical Person, I am pleased with the overall process and evaluation as it gives me a non bias evaluation of my driving ability post having suffered a medical episode Thanks Austin, Thanks Taggards DORES Program

Negative experience: DISHONEST PEOPLE. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! My teenager did 30 hours of classroom education along with 8 hours of on-road driving with an instructor through the organization. Instructor then told us the best way to pass the driving test would be to do it through Taggarts ($125) as opposed to going through Department of Driver Services (DDS) (FREE). Day of driving test, the examiner sat us down in an office and filled my teenager with a load of information about the test and intersection requirements, some of which she had never heard before and that were conflicting with what her other Taggarts instructor had previously told her. The instructor failed her 5 minutes into the road test for being in the intersection and yielding on a green light after the green arrow had expired and brought her back to the office. He then explained that Taggarts grades on a higher bar than the DDS and he “had” to fail her for not staying behind the line when the light was still green even though what she did was NOT a traffic violation. He continued explaining that (1) the Taggarts exam is much more difficult than the DDS exam, (2) she clearly has very good driving skills from observing the rest of her short performance, (3) she would definitely pass the DDS exam, and (4) if we wanted to take the exam with Taggarts again, they would give us a discount (only $95 versus FREE through DDS). Hindsight, I believe the intent was to fail her from the get-go. Now we’re out $125, have to make up for missed school and work time, and have to find a time, likely weeks or months out, to retake the test, for a “fail” that the examiner agreed was not a traffic violation. Hearing all of this, why in the world would anyone choose to pay for the test through Taggarts versus taking the test through DDS another reputable company?!?!? Taggarts is a FRAUD.

Taggart's Driving School

Dear Mr. Braley:
Upon reading your above comments, I immediately commenced a review of your daughter's experience with Taggart's Driving School, including her classroom instruction, in-car training and her failure of the state Road Test due to a violation of state law/Rules and Regulations of the Georgia Department of Driver Services. Your daughter's classroom instructor and in-car instructor were one and the same. The instructor is licensed by GA DDS to teach both classroom and in-car and has done so for over 15 years. The instructor advised that the circumstances that caused your daughter's Road Test failure was covered both in the classroom and during her 8 hours of in-car instruction. As you probably recall, prior to our instructor/examiner leaving with your daughter to take the Road Test, he explained, along with diagrams, the situation that would cause a Road Test failure. You both indicated that you understood that circumstance. Because that situation is one of the common errors made by road test applicants, the instructor/examiner always, during the 10 to 15 minute pre-road test exam, explains what the common mistakes are based upon our 20 plus years of providing the Road Test as a so-called 3rh Party Examiner. Incidentally, GA DDS has a monitor ride as an observer during intermittent visits and we are always in complete compliance. The first part of the Road Test is the "skills test" i.e. reverse straight, backing into a driveway type maneuver and parallel parking. She completed this part of the test on our Road Test without a error (perfect score!). Next was the on-the-road in traffic portions of the test. It should be noted, as was explained to you and your daughter, both by our examiner/instructor and in the confirmation letter regarding the Road Test when you signed up for the Road Test. Basically, your daughter approached an intersection, with a traffic light exhibiting a green light, and was instructed to make a left-hand turn. She stopped, as she should have, before entering the intersection due to on-coming traffic. For some reason, after stopping, she entered the intersection and again stopped due to on-coming traffic. She sat in the middle of the intersection waiting on the on-coming traffic, and the light turned to amber (on-coming traffic was still passing thru the intersection) and finally the light turned red. The violation then occurred (at that point she had no choice) because she completed the left turn with the red light showing. Our examiner had no choice but to fail her based upon state law and the Rules and Regulations of the GA DDS. I will be the first to agree that the above situation happens almost 24 hours a day at many intersections in metro-Atlanta, but the Road Test is a test and we are required to follow the law and she failed. Our fees for service are plainly printed on our website and other places in plain view. We do offer a reduced fee ($95.00) if a student fails the Road Test and wants to re-test with us. With respect to our Road Test service compared to GA DDS, we spend a full hour with each applicant. First a meeting in our office to attempt to put the applicant at ease and explain the various maneuvers on the Road Test and so-called "little things" that can cause points to be deducted, such as forgetting to use a turn signal when pulling out of the parallel parking space, or speeding over the posted speed limit is a violation of state law and is an automatic failure. After the test, PASS or FAIL, we spend about 10 to 15 minutes advising the applicant (and their parent) what the applicant needs to work on to be a safe,, confident and defensive driver (an applicant passing the test does not mean that I would ride with them in Atlanta traffic without my extra steering wheel, brake and gas pedal in front of me!!). At Taggart's, we all feel badly when an applicant fails, but we will not pass someone who does not pass the test. We would appreciate you removing your slanderous comments

Negative experience: Do not sign up for this driving school. I bought the whole package for 2 teens. The day of the driving lesson, the instructor did not show. When I called the school the said that Mr Humpries had come to our house and we were not home. In fact we were home and waiting for him to come. They said that voided the whole driving package. I talked to the owner, Barry Schrenk, and he said he would not do any about it as he believed his instructor. I reached out to the instructor, Mr Humpries, and he agreed to continue the lessons. My kids did two lessons with him then he cancelled the third lesson. I later communicated back and forth with him and he said he would schedule the last lesson and never did. Now, I am ready to get the driving test that I paid for so I called the office to schedule and was informed that my contact expired and I have to pay the $125 for the driving test. When I explained the situation, she said that I should have informed them sooner but they will do nothing now. The whole experience with them has been a lot of “got ya’”. Don’t waste your money! Find a better school and if you sign up for an expensive package read the fine print very carefully. I am now responding to the owner response. The response shows exactly my point. They will accuse you of a no -Show when you did not no-Show. There is no way to prove yourself because it is their word against yours. After they declare that you did not show for the appointment at your own house they cancel your right to all 6 hours of lessons. Then when your child who is an adult needs the driver test that you paid for, they cite state Joshua law as a reason that they only perform the service, that supposedly Joshua’s law prohibits, for a fee of $125. This is the exact attitude you will get with this business. Beware!

Taggart's Driving School
Taggart's Driving School

We have reviewed your records and the last time we discussed this situation was two and one-half years ago. At that time we reached an understanding and you agreed to pay a substantially reduced fee for the no-show lessons so that we could return to complete the package. We have not heard from you since that time. As you will recall, all in-car lessons in any purchased package must be completed within 6 months of the completion of the classroom portion of the program. As you will hopefully recall, you were advised that the instructor is still paid for his/her time if the student no-shows their lesson time. During your call with our office manager during the last day or so, you were advised that under state regulations, we cannot provide the Road Test Service for a student who has taken and completed the 30 hours of classroom and six (6) hours of in-car lessons after 2 years has passed, which it has in this situation. This is in addition to the fact that your student has completed less than the state mandated 6 hours of in-car training required for completed of the driver education program under Joshua's Law. You had all that information and although you provided plenty of reasons why you never completed your part of our agreement, you elected to write a complaint with less than complete information. We regret that you are not happy, but we have done and were agreeable to complete our service if you had upheld your part of our agreement.

Negative experience: Got cut off and almost hit by a green toyota with a taggarts driving school sign on it. Later on down i-75 I saw the same car and the driver had both hands behind his head. Any driving school that employs such a reckless and inconsiderate driver would be best avoided.

Fantastic experience: I was delighted with Taggarts. I'd read some less than stellar reviews so I went in a bit unsure, but my parents had sent me to driving school and for private lessons w/them when I was 15, so I decided to give it a go. My daughter did the 30-hour in person class over winter break, and her instructor was awesome. Was it the most exciting week of her life? No. Did she learn a lot? Yes. Did she like the teacher? Double yes. Then she had 6 hours of driving w/a Taggarts instructor. She ended up with a guy named Jay. It was weird to put my daughter in the car with a stranger (a man), but he set my husband and I at east immediately. He took her all over Atlanta and taught her a ton (she reminds me constantly how I'm breaking the law when I drive - ha!). Not only did he teach her a lot about driving, but they had awesome conversations and being a teenager and navigating this crazy culture and world. She had so much fun during her first 3-hour session that she was stoked to do another 3 hours with him the next week. Jay, if you ever happen to read this, THANK YOU. Your investment in the lives of the kids you work with goes far beyond their driving capabilities. You're truly making a difference in their hearts.

Negative experience: My son registered to take the driving course over the summer of this year. On his first day of class, I asked for him to be scheduled for the on-the-road driving portion of the class. There were no appointments available in the near-term, so the school registered him for on-the-road driving lessons a whole 3 months after he took the in-class instruction. THEN, as if that wasn't bad enough, the school called 1 week before my son's scheduled driving lessons to reschedule him for December. (Of course there's no urgency on the school's part because I've already paid for everything!) Had I known up front that there would be so much time between the classroom instruction and driving leasons, I certainly would have never registered my son here. My son is still owed 3 hours of on-the-road instruction, and until this is done we cannot get the certificate to present to the insurance company for our earned discount. What a headache it's been dealing with Taggarts Driving School, not to mention that the office staff was not very courteous and helpful. Edit to respond to "Response From Owner": My son's name is Zayd. Now you look ridiculous trying to deny that we were customers of your business because absolutely nobody else is named Zayd. Stop fighting with your customers and use your energy to improve your business. You're running a horrible business! My next stop is the Better Business Bureau.

Yes, it is often difficult to schedule a lesson as soon as a students asks, only because several of our senior instructors "retired early" due to the pandemic and federal dollars available for those who prefer not to work. We are proud of our two steering wheel, two brakes and two gas pedals system. It really is an engineering marvel and rather expensive to design and install. However, the system creates a faster and safer way for our students to learn. In all of our training vehicles since 1957!

Originally a DEFACS student. State wouldn't pay for additional lessons, so she scheduled several and then "No-Showed" the lessons. Promised she would pay for service and didn't. After scheduling lessons and not paying, we advised her we wouldn't do business with her.

Fantastic experience: My son did the 30 hours of class instructions and he also did the 6 hours driving. My son really enjoyed the program. He had an excellent Driving Instructor Adonis Alcindor. Thank you Adonis Alcindor for showing him things that he thought that he knew about driving. Adonis Alcindor really had the patience. He also asked me what I thought he needed to improve on. My son felt very comfortable with him. I would recommend this school to others. I just wish the driving was more than six hours. Adonis Alcindor was the best instructor. I would recommend getting Adonis Alcindor as your Driving Instructor. Thank you Adonis Alcindor also.

Negative experience: Okay this is going to be a long one so buckle up we're going on a ride. So the first thing wrong with this program is the cost a standard program which is 30 hours in class six hours behind the wheel and the driving test is $695 which I paid and deeply regret paying. Second thing is the timing of this program. When I was getting ready to sign up on the phone the lady told me it would take no longer than two weeks after my in class learning to get my license and I got reassurance multiple times that it would not take long but instead it took about 2 months to get my license because the initial online classes took two weekends and then it took two weeks to wait for my first driving lesson then another week and a half for my next driving lesson then I had to wait 3 weeks for the next available testing date. The in-car driving classes were very helpful but I did not feel prepared for the test that they gave. My in-car driving classes did not involve going to Tucker to practice parking so I came ill-prepared to the test without properly knowing how they wanted me to behave on that part of the test. The third thing that could not have gone worse is the test itself. There's actually a lot that goes into their driving test not only are you practicing parking and backing up but also you do go on the street and drive but the issue for me was not the test itself it was the instructor giving me the test. Generally you are supposed to have your test with the person who gave you your in car driving classes but I got a grumpy old man who scoffed at me every time I asked a question. My driving instructor, though annoying at times, was very good at defusing tension and the person that I got made it to where my nerves about taking this driving test were even worse than they should have been. I did fail the test which was my fault since I should have been able to drive even with the tension but the bigger issue to me was that I went immediately to take my test at a DMV which I passed with flying colors. And a word to the wise of anyone who will be using Taggart's even after you read this, you have to behave as if you are in real traffic while parking or you will be docked heavily for it. I truly feel like this was not the driving school for me and it is probably not the driving school for you if you do not have months to waste, $695 to waste, and the ability to deal with the unprofessional behavior of some of the driving instructors. Truly, if I could give them less than a star, I would. As a sidebar, I will say that I took these classes with my roommate and she did not have the same problem with her scheduling even though she scheduled two days after me. I don't know why and I really don't know how , but she got her license two weeks before me. She also took her driving classes with are in class instructor and passed on the first go even though she has failed the normal DMV driving test before.

Negative experience: 3 month wait. Signed up for driving lessons for my son to get his license and there are no slots available until next year. Was assured he could get them in quickly. Student was assigned to a "wait list" and a Taggart's Instructor called within a few days and completed the in-car instruction within two weeks after the request. Student failed the initial Road Test for a driver's license and advised the Taggart's Examiner prior to the test that he only had a few hours of practice rather than the minimum, set by state law, of 40 hours of practice (6 of those hours must be at night) with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older. That information and suggestions for practice was sent via e-mail attachment to the parent upon registering for the Taggart's Road Test Service. Student passed road test after second attempt.

Fantastic experience: My daughter is learning everything she needs from teachers who take their time and actually teach. We would not have been able to have gotten everything taught to her that they have. The hands on driving with an instructor is what a young driver needs. It makes it a more serious and honest experience when there's not the emotional attachment of parent to child.

Taggart's Driving School
Taggart's Driving School

I hardily agree with your comments comparing parent and driving instructor provided lessons. Both my daughters (now adults with children) were taught by another instructor because I knew, after years of experience as a driving instructor, that each of them would question my instruction in the training car. I knew that I would constantly hear "are you sure about that Dad" or "my friends told me the law requires you to ...." (completely wrong on "the friends part). Thank you for your comments.

Glad you enjoyed your time in the class and in the car. We often hear or observe that during the first hour or two of class that students really don't want to be there. But after the last class hour, these same students will say, "I really learned a lot, thank you!!"

Kathy Van Pelt 8 years ago

Negative experience: Disappointing. My daughters and many of their friends attended driving school. The instructor and the course material were not engaging - at all. Plus, Taggart's did not let me know at the end of the course to go ahead and get the 6 hours of driving scheduled. When I did call, they had no openings for 3 months!

Taggart's Driving School
Taggart's Driving School

A review of our records indicates that the teacher of the classroom portion of the driver education program attended by Ms. Van Pelt's twin daughters is a retired school principal, who has taught the same program at several of the premier independent (private) schools in the metro-Atlanta area for many years, with great acclaim, as well in our own classrooms. A review of the test scores from that class indicates that all students learned all, or most all, of the material presented. Ms. Van Pelt received a 4 page letter outlining the rules and regulations of our program (most based upon the Rules and Regulations of the Georgia Department of Driver Services), including suggestions for success in the program. Additionally, it is clearly stated in our "Dear Parent" letter that "if the classroom instructor either does not teach in-car lessons, or the classroom instructor has already scheduled the maximum number of in-car lesson that he or she can handle, the student or parent should call our office to schedule the in-car lessons". It should be noted that the in-car scheduling staff group is located 12 feet from the entrance door to our Tucker classroom. The letter also clearly states that the in-car lessons must be completed with 6 months of the completion of the classroom potion of the program. Additionally, all students are advised to schedule their in-car lessons as soon as possible (many are not in a hurry or want to wait until a date closer to the time when they can legally obtain their driver's license). These two students finished their classroom portion at 5 pm, June 22, but did not attempt to schedule their in-car lessons until after school had started, when after-school and Saturday lesson times fill up quickly. Incidentally, our instructors are available 6 days per week, from 8 am to 8 pm, and some instructors will teach on Sunday. Truthfully, not every student can get a certain day and time after school without waiting for an opening. Both students had lesson times scheduled, but had to cancel and re-schedule of their own accord, which we cannot control. Their in-car lessons were completed within the 6 month period and according to their instructors, both did very well with their lessons.

We do not have a record of a student with a parents name of Cynthia Arnold. Our staff did a classroom records search to determine if we could identify this student. We have a waiting list (we often have cancellations for in-car lessons and call students on the wait list to schedule their lessons ASAP.
All three office staff members have excellent memories and none recall talking to this students parent, grandparent or guardian.

Negative experience: Emotional abuse at Taggart's in Tucker Recently, my wife and daughter went to the Lawrenceville location of Taggart for my daughter’s driving test. We paid our $85 and the result was the most abusive, disrespectful, deflating, confidence crushing, shocking, and dumbfounding customer experience of all time. My wife and daughter arrived to greet a surly, red haired, thin woman in her 70’s. Let’s call her “Grumpy”. As they reached the door of the room where Grumpy was sitting, without getting up or even lifting her head, she barked “Across the hall” indicating she wanted them to go to the room across the hall. It ended up that Grumpy was the one who administered my daughter's driving test. The test was stopped even before my daughter was allowed to take the field driving test. My daughter did not know what had gone wrong and came back to the waiting room crying. My wife asked a question about whether using a backup camera was against the rules. Evidently, Grumpy was not too pleased with my wife’s question and snapped back the following: - “your daughter went over the double yellow line while backing up” - “she was going to hit those cones!” - “it didn’t matter if she had that backup camera or not, your daughter was not going to make it” - “backing up, you have to keep looking back the whole time; you cannot look forward” - “she didn’t use her turn signal when parallel parking but that didn’t kill her” - “but then she was going to hit the curb so I cancelled the road test” My daughter is nearly 18 years old and has had her permit for over a year and a half. She’s successfully driven with my wife and I over 100 times including all of the major highways in Metro Atlanta (at rush hour) without any issues. She has practiced and successfully performed all driving skills. My daughter has worked very hard to pass her test. In the meeting at that point, Grumpy make a value judgement on my daughter and her ability to get her license, “Honestly, I don’t know if your daughter can drive or not. We didn’t even make it to the road test.” At this point, my daughter burst into tears. Here’s my 18-year-old daughter who has worked hard to learn how to drive and Grumpy has a value statement. My wife was absolutely dumbfounded and needed time to process what was happening. My daughter was upset and crushed. Clearly, she was thinking that she would never get her driver’s license after working so hard. At this point, my wife and daughter only wanted to escape the continued emotional abuse. But Grumpy went on, “If it was nerves, then you should repeat your driver’s test as soon as you can but not at a Taggart location.” She did not encourage my wife and daughter to use Taggart again. Perhaps Grumpy just wanted us to cut her workload? My daughter was deflated and crushed. She cried all day. My wife learned more from my daughter about what had happened during the driving test and could not stop thinking “how could someone who works with kids be so nasty?” My daughter took driving lessons at Taggart and we paid the $85 for her to be tested at a Taggart location for her driver’s license. Our expectation was a good experience where Maddie would either earn her driver’s license OR learn more about what she needed to improve upon to earn it. They received neither. Instead, my wife and daughter were emotionally abused, treated disrespectfully, and met with unnecessary cruelty from the elderly, red-haired, thin woman at your Lawrenceville (Tucker, GA) location who conducted my daughter’s driving test. This was not about passing or failing a driver’s test. It was all about a very unhappy woman either purposely OR inadvertently destroying my 18-year-old daughter’s confidence, spirit, and optimism. There is no cause for abusing another human being which is exactly what happened at the Taggart location in Tucker. Grumpy, if you are reading this, please don’t worry about any of my family using any Taggart location for anything ever again. In fact, we plan to share this story of abuse far and wide to help prevent it from ever happening again.

We regret that his daughter failed the standard state road test which we are licensed by the GA Department of Driver Services to provide to those students who complete our driver education program. The father was not present; and after talking to all staff members involved, it is clear that the student and her mother were treated with respect and provided all information in a professional and polite manner. After review, it is clear that the above review was written in a hateful manner about the instructor/examiner because she is an older woman and his daughter failed the test. This particular instructor/examiner is a retired school principal who has taught driver education in many of the premier independent schools in the Atlanta area and has always received stellar reports because of the quality of her teaching. We regret that the father of this student has attacked our staff person because of her age. The student may have driven hundreds of times with her parents, but during the road test, she violated state law which is an automatic failure.

Fantastic experience: We chose Taggart's for my son several years ago. It was an excellent experience, and they did a better job than we could have done ourselves. He quickly got real driving experience (as opposed to our plan of driving around empty parking lots). That experience built his confidence, as well as gave him a good perspective on the responsibilities that go along with driving. I believe it also helped his focus in learning from professionals rather than parents. Ultimately, it is up to each family to choose the best option for their child, but keep in mind, if you choose professionals, you must allow them to do their job using their proven methods. That means you are relinquishing some control. Ask questions and encourage your child with positive reinforcement to be active listeners, as well as for them to communicate with the instructor (letting them know of any concerns, fears. I would use them again and recommend them to others.

Thank you for your kind words about Taggart's Driving School and your suggestions for those learning how to drive. As a licensed instructor for 46 years, I can't even estimate how many times I have corrected a student for a safety error or a clear violation of state law and the student's response is similar to the following: But my Dad does that all the time! My Mother said that was the law in Alabama! Are you sure about that, my Day said what I did was taught to him by an Alabama State Trooper! Or, my parents weren't sure of the correct way when I asked them! plus many variations.
Our instructors do know state law, defensive driving techniques and what will keep students out of accidents. Also, passing the state Road Test, which we are licensed to administer, does not mean a driver can handle any driving situation. My all time favorite is the comment from a friend, who was a traffic court judge for many years, loudly complained to me that "you taught my son too good, he is always correcting me when I break a law while driving with him, and he is right!!
In closing, I trust you son is doing well in his driving career. Thank you for choosing Taggart's, teaching driver education programs since 1957.

Negative experience: DO NOT GO HERE. ESPECIALLY DO NOT LET YOUR KID TAKE DRIVER'S ED HERE. THEY ALMOST KILLED MY DAUGHTER. THEY ROUTINELY TAKE KIDS OUT ON VERY BUSY EXPRESSWAYS ON THEIR FIRST IN-CAR LESSONS, AND THEY FREELY ADMIT THIS AS STANDARD PROCEDURE. THEIR INSTRUCTOR TOLD MY DAUGHTER TO CHANGE INTO THE LEFT LANE ON A BUSY I-285. THE INSTRUCTOR TOLD ME THAT WHEN THEY CHANGED LANES AND THE INSTRUCTOR REALIZED THEY WERE ABOUT TO HIT A SEMI, THAT THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE CAR, BUT THAT MY DAUGHER WAS ABLE TO TAKE IT BACK IMMEDIATELY. *HOW* SHOULD THIS BE POSSIBLE WITH A DUAL CONTROL CAR?? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE INSTRUCTOR CONTROLS TAGGART THEN TOLD THE POLICE THAT IT WAS MY DAUGHTER'S FAULT AND THE POLICE ISSUED HER THE TICKET (WHICH WAS LATER DISMISSED BECAUSE THE JUDGE UNDERSTOOD IT WAS TAGGART'S FAULT). FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURRED, BUT MY DAUGHTER WAS INCHES AWAY FROM BEING KILLED. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAN IMMERGLUCK DECATUR, GA

Taggart's Driving School
Taggart's Driving School

This accident was caused because the student would not follow instructions and allow her experienced instructor to take control of the training vehicle as she was making a mistake The student refused to by take her hands off the steering wheel, as she was taught, and continued to turn into the adjoining lane where another vehicle was passing the Taggart's car. The student was issued a ticket because the driver of any vehicle, whether they have a learners permit or not, is ultimately responsible for violation of any traffic law. The judge in juvenile court dismissed the ticket because he realized that there is no safer way to learn to drive than with the Taggart's exclusive two-steering wheel, two-brake and two gas pedal system (Taggart's is the only school in Georgia with this system-state law only requires an extra brake in any driving school car). This student had been on the interstate for approximately one hour before this incident (she did very well) which was caused by her changing lanes into another vehicle after seeing the other vehicle in her blind-spot by using the outside rear view mirror. Taggart's has trained hundreds of thousands of students following our special system without incident. This student refused to follow the instructor's command to take over control and simply caused this accident. This accident was reviewed by the GA DDS and no action was taken against the instructor or Taggart's because the instructor was following accepted standards of safety and training of a new driver. Thousands of parents request that we take their student on the interstate because they are afraid to do that and highway driving is part of the state road test to obtain a driver's license in this and many other states. At the time of the lesson, there was very little traffic due to a holiday weekend, although we teach expressway driving to new drivers in any conditions. This student panicked, and thankfully, the instructor was eventually able to take over and that is the reason no one was seriously injured or killed. I suspect if one of the parents was the "instructor", it would have ended in disaster, as has happened in the past according to many news reports. We DO NOT take any student into traffic situations that they are not ready to handle. This student exhibited by her driving skill level during the first part of the lesson that she was ready to learn how to drive on the expressway. Otherwise, the instructor would not have continued her progression in learning to drive utilizing expressways. The father of the student, who wrote the above complaint, spoke extensively with the instructor before the lesson began and advised the instructor that the teenager had approximately 10 hours of in-car experience. Many of our students have zero experience when they take their first in-car lesson with us and we follow the same "building block" type of instruction program with someone with zero experience; then eventually introducing expressway driving when they are ready. All this professional information was provided to the parents but apparently they have chosen to ignore it. The damage to the Taggart's training vehicle was approximately $4,000.00 and Taggart's has paid for the repair. We have also offered to provide the complete 6 hours of in-car instruction without deducting the almost three hours of instruction already provided, with the same or another state licensed instructor. In our opinion, this student simply made a mistake, and then panicked; but she can certainly learn to be a good, safe and confident defensive driver with instruction provided by a professional licensed instructor. This teenager is also a very nice person!
