Freedom Driving School: Reviews
Negative experience: Really don't appreciate that they come into neighborhoods and practice parallel parking on my street using my families vehicles. Called to complain and got a really snotty woman who acted like I was crazy for being upset over this. Use your own vehicles to teach them.
Fantastic experience: I passed my driving skills test yesterday. I was so anxious when I stepped inside the car but my Examiner, Ms. Vanessa, made me feel at ease with her motivation. I am so grateful for her for trusting me that I can drive good and safe except for some minor mistakes. She gave me safety tips and precautionary advise. Hats off Ms. Vanessa
Congratulations on passing your Skills Exam at Freedom Driving School!!
Fantastic experience: Freedom Driving is a great, experienced and professional driving instruction school. We have had 4 of our children take Kent Overholt's class. Our kids enjoy Kent's humor and I enjoy his professionalism and how he holds them to a high standard. All of our kids scored high on all their tests and passed the class with high marks the first time. We chose Freedom and they have trained our children to be responsible, safe and knowledgeable drivers. We will trust Freedom to train all our children not to just have a license, but to be great drivers.
Thank you for the 5 Star review, for your trust in Mr. Overholt as your family's instructor, and for coming back to Freedom Driving School year after year!!
Fantastic experience: All of the staff here are polite and respectful. They will gladly help with whatever you need to do. Vanessa Thompson is a great driver’s ed teacher definitely 10/10 would recommend learning to drive with these folks!
Thank you for the 5 star review - We are so happy that you had an amazing experience at Freedom Driving School!!
Fantastic experience: Vanessa Thompson is my son’s instructor and she has been top-tier in him successfully completing this. Anytime I text her, even on weekends she would help me out with next steps. My son absolutely refused to go with another instructor. I am so thankful for her and her dedication to help him succeed in this and guide me thru my first son getting his license! I can’t recommend her enough!
Thank you for the great review - We are so happy to hear that your son had an amazing experience with Mrs. Thompson and Freedom Driving School!
Negative experience: Money hungry place! go to 911 driving school
Negative experience: Old guy keeps yelling at me during my driving test. Imagine being nervous at the same time yet the instructor stressed me out more. If I can give zero stars I would. They scam people by telling them to re-test.
Are you sure that you are reviewing the correct Driving School Location? We have no record of a customer by your name...
Driving Schools only require you to retest if you legitimately underscore or fail the Skills Exam. This could be due to several different factors on an exam. But since I have no record of your name at our school, I can't check your individual test and why you didn't pass the Skills Exam.
Negative experience: Worst experience and bunch of scammers
Sorry, but you provided very limited information for a 1 star review...Are you sure that you are reviewing the correct Driving School Location? We have no record of a customer by your name...
Negative experience: Extortion and Scammers I am absolutely infuriated and appalled by the shameful and disgraceful services provided by this establishment! My daughter had the misfortune of attending a driver's ed class here, for which we paid a whopping $700, only to be subjected to an utterly obsolete and irrelevant series of slideshows and random accident videos, devoid of any genuine educational value on handling real-world driving situations. Rather than receiving any valuable instruction, the supposed "trainer" polluted the learning environment with his insufferable, senseless jokes, coercing the students into forced laughter, completely sidestepping his responsibility to educate. This unacceptable disregard for professional conduct escalated when my daughter, who had the resolve to question the questionable teachings, chose not to laugh at his tasteless jokes. In response, this so-called "instructor" resorted to heinous, unwarranted verbal abuse, both in the classroom and during the practical driving sessions. Let me be clear—my daughter is an exceptionally proficient and assertive driver, logging 300 miles a week under my watchful supervision from the passenger seat. Yet, this individual, Brian, with his vile and prejudiced viewpoints, had the audacity to berate and demean her with his venomous tirades, revealing his malicious, racist core. His incessant, xenophobic ramblings about immigrants and driving behaviors in the U.S. were reprehensible and downright offensive! And now, as if to add insult to injury, this deplorable establishment has the gall to demand additional hundreds of dollars for her to retake the class! It is an affront to any semblance of decency and professional integrity. I implore you to steer clear of this place; it is a breeding ground for bigotry, unprofessionalism, and a blatant disregard for proper education. Do not allow your hard-earned money to fuel such a despicable, contemptible operation! Seek out a reputable, respectful, and genuinely educational institution where decency and knowledge are valued above prejudice and mockery! Please avoid this scammers. Please avoid this scammers.
Over this past year there have been many management and employee changes, and I can personally guarantee that this specific instructor no longer works for Freedom Driving School!
Fantastic experience: Recently pasted my Driving test with Kristine as my instructor and was apart of her Drivers ed class, i felt welcome, instructor and staff are well trained and professional for the job. I highly recommend this school and want to thank all those there that helped me. Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you for the 5 Star Review!!
Negative experience: Staff is unprofessional, told me to go wait outside when I was trying to get information about scheduling for my daughter's drive test. Will be bringing my daughter to another place for her drive test. 1 star
We have multiple chairs inside every office....It's hard to believe that one of our staff would have sent you outside to wait!
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend freedom drive off of Meridian. I took their driver's Ed course as well as taking the written and drive test with them. I bought the premium bundle deal which made it so I could take the course and take all tests prepaid- I highly recommend. Miss K was my instructor and she taught things in a very understandable, engaging way. She is professional while still being sociable. I was able to pass my written and drive on my first try thanks to the course. Everyone in the building was very respectful and easy to talk to. Any anxiety I had about the tests went out the window when conversations started with the staff. Thanks, freedom drive!
We are so happy to hear that you had an amazing experience at Freedom Driving School!
Fantastic experience: I went to the freedom on Meridian, it was a very good experience all throughout. Ms. K was my instructor and she made everything very easy to understand and had good energy to keep you up and interested during class. Freedom has good and reasonable prices, they also give you 6 drives with an instructor to practice. The people at the front desk are also very friendly and will get you in and out quickly and efficiently.
Thank you so very much for the 5-Star review!
Negative experience: they complain over the smallest stuff. let’s say u use ur own reference point, the old white lady instructor would have a problem. like what? very disappointing
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience and I believe her name is Kristen was so nice, she made me feel way less nervous and she made my whole experience so much better and I really appreciate her for that
Thank you so very much for the 5-Star review!
Negative experience: I went to this school 3 times for my knowledge test and failed those three times because the questions weren’t making sense. I had a lot of correct questions that I knew but they still marked those wrong. And then I went to 911 driving school and passed my knowledge test on the first try. I don’t recommend this place at all their scamming people on a daily basis.
Fantastic experience: I personally enjoyed freedom very much. Ms. Kristine was my driver instructor and she actually kept class entertaining and made me want to stay awake in class. She is very kind , a good instructor , helpful, fun & patient & easy to talk to. It was easy to schedule all my tests and drives and everything went smoothly.
Thank you for your 5-Star Review - we love to hear about the wonderful experience you had with Freedom Driving School!
Fantastic experience: My daughter really did well at Freedom Driving. She enjoyed her instructor Haley and did just about all her drives with Scott. Both made her feel comfortable and confident. As parents we had nothing but good experiences with the staff. Kristine was extremely willing and helpful when ever we hit a scheduling conflict. She and Roberta were always friendly and willing to work with us anyway they could. We can not recommend this office enough.
Thank you for your 5-Star review! Come back anytime :)
Fantastic experience: Kristine is an amazing instructor that can explain things that are tricky to understand in a simple and funny way to the point that you will remember any info or pointers she gives you for a long time. Very good school for learning how to drive, would recommend.
Negative experience: Instructors love to "automatically fail" kids on their driving test to milk another $50 out of the families. Watch out for this scam.
Examiners only hand out a fair score - the students earn what they receive!
Fantastic experience: All staff were really nice
Thank you for your great review - it always good to hear!
Fantastic experience: I just recently finished my final drive and had Kristine as my instructor for that final drive, she was very polite and was very professional! I would also like to give props to Kent because he did my previous drives and it was always a blast and I learned very well from them, thank you for teaching me what I need to know on the road! And I hope you guys stay safe!
Fantastic experience: I just moved here to Washington State from abroad. Initially I took my Knowledge and Driving test with another school as that particular school was the closest to me. I passed the knowledge test but failed when it came to the Driving test. I believe the instructor may have been somewhat biased in their racial views because although English may not be my first language i can clearly communicate in and understand the English language very well. The Instructor in the other school would regularly ask if I could understand what she was saying and speak in a loud clear and slow tone as if I was some 5 year old child and this happened during both times when i tested, a very condescending individual So I tried Freedom Driving School in South Hill and they are very helpful and professional in their approach. The Instructor I had, a nice and wonderful woman by the name of Judy was very helpful and patient . I recommend this this Driving School and Judy ❤️
Negative experience: ZERO STARS. The people here are very RACIST. also when failing a written test, they won’t show you what you got wrong. so how else are you supposed to know what to study for? THIS LOCATION IS MONEY HUNGRY. I’m betting they cheat their way with these written tests as well. There’s no way anybody comes in and out failing about 5x. spending about $250. low quality. poor service and very racist.
Fantastic experience: I have absolutely loved my experience with Freedom Driving School. It was so easy to set up my knowledge test. The test instructors were so kind and helpful! My first private driving instructor David was so nice, patient and helpful. Amy is my favorite private driving instructor! She makes the classes fun! Amy is so helpful, patient, fun, kind and amazing! I highly recommend both of them! I definitely will take my driving test with them too! I would recommend Freedom Driving school to teens just learning how to drive or even older people like me who are afraid to drive and need help getting over that fear!
Fantastic experience: Kent is a excellent instructor, he made it a fun and relaxing experience. It was the best experience I've had, Kent keep up the great work
Fantastic experience: For the people stating this is a scam, that is so far from correct! The parents sign a "parent agreement" so if they actually read it, is up to them, which contains ALL expectations from student and parent. We set teens up for success and nothing more. For a student held in files for month's with no regard to other student's/ classes that could create a problem on their part. Everything they need to know is gone over several, many times. If some people would spend the time they took for a bad review on getting their student to take responsiblity, they may change review.
Negative experience: I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Incredibly unprofessional and rude. Very unfortunate that they are affiliated with the DOL. What a poor representation, and an utter fail of an experience for new drivers. We have had 2 of our kids use this school, and take their testing here. Their communication about schedule changes, and drive times, were frustrating to say the least. Their Road Test Instructors are vile. It is quite apparent that everyone who works here hates their jobs, because no happy person behaves the way they do. I do not recommend. We will not give them any more of our money.
Negative experience: These people are horrible, my drive instructor was fired before my last drive and she didn’t teach me anything (hints why she lost her job) and they just put me with some other random person and tried to cram it all into my last drive, they did not prepare me properly at all. And they don’t care because regardless they get your money.
Fantastic experience: All the staff are super nice
Negative experience: This place is a joke. Don't go there if you want your license you will never get it. They will fail you for the stupidest reason so you have to keep paying them to do it over.
Fantastic experience: I had a great experience. The instructor doing my test gave very clear instructions and went over everything at the end of the test. Would recommend
Negative experience: skip this place, has a bunch of grannies that dont know how to do their job, love to fail students to make more money
Negative experience: The online classes were great and informative, the driving instructor was amazing. The examiner named vickie for the skills test was rude, condescending, unprofessional, and after the drive test when I was reaching for the key to shut off the car she lunged over and ripped the keys out of my hand.
Negative experience: Instructors are rude, discouraging & snooty. Don’t take your schooling here ! You will fail and they will try to continuously rip you off. They act as if their time is more important then yours & are just straight up mean. I wish I could give a 0 star.
Negative experience: Puyallup location are very rude. You can call all day and not get an answer. You call from outside and clearly see the woman at desk ignoring the call. Too much $ 4 anonline class with no recordings to re-review. Spanaway location is unused, have to travel to puyallup.
Negative experience: I chose the Spanaway Location for my daughter and decided to pay extra because it was so close to home. Not once but twice did they change locations on me. It’s a nope from me.
Fantastic experience: Started my 3rd child here for drivers education today. They do a good job, are reasonably priced and meet all the same state mandated requirements that all drive schools have to meet. The tests, drives, and sessions are all bundled into a package for a single price. With convenient times and locations I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a drive school.
Negative experience: Omg, my instructor was Karen (a blonde older woman) and she not understanding at all. I came a few minutes late due to location confusion. and when I get there and I apologize to her for coming a bit late and she looks at me and walks away. She made me feel like I didn’t know anything. DO NOT COME HERE PLEASE! you will fail
Negative experience: DO NOT GO HERE the lady that did my drive test (Vicky I believe)was so sexist and told me before we even left that most girls never pass so “let’s see if I’m lucky”. She talked in a very discouraging voice and sighed at everything I did. I was at a red light and stopped a little before the line at first so I moved up slowly a tiny bit to be at the line and she slammed on the break and yelled at me asking what I’m doing, this was about 4 minutes in, right after that she said “well obviously you failed, we’re going back now. So unprofessional. Would give a 0 if I could
Negative experience: I didn't like how they test. I did the skill test and the lady with me told me than i passed a red light but i didn't. It turned red after i was driving and she said than she couldn't test more because just with that mistake i didn't pass and she couldn't recommend or suggest anything else just more practice.
Positive experience: I really liked the online class and my instructor for all of my drives, but when it came to the test the examiner was super unprofessional and sighed every time I did anything. We then talked to her about it over the phone and she claimed I was being “overdramatic”. The next time I took the test I got Ms. My-lan and she was very professional and let me know exactly what she’s looking for, which defiantly calmed my nerves and I ended up passing.
Negative experience: Class schedule and location were great, but when my daughter took her test the lady was so rude and almost made her cry before the drive even started. At the end she said she was gonna pass her but it was a collision waiting to happen. Who says that? Won’t be taking any of my other children back here or recommending to anyone I know.
Negative experience: If you want to pass your driving test You better go somewhere else, rude driving instructor, he makes my daughter cry, and also you have to do driving test on their company car, which is so stressful for new drivers
Negative experience: I can understand putting drives off because of COVID and prioritizing students in classes before the shutdown. I understand not getting to start the educational course until May when the course should have started in April. I do NOT understand waiting a month and a half to schedule A FIRST practice drive! I finished my course late June. TWICE I've been told someone will call me to set up a drive, and nothing has happened!! At this point, if i don't get something scheduled by Monday I'm asking for my money back!
Negative experience: Really disappointed in this place. They do not answer either phone number listed. Left a message over a week ago, still no return call. The test administrator was a jerk (I noticed this as well). And my son told me that he was rude to everyone but a cute young girl! I would not bring your child here!
Fantastic experience: I actually prefer this driving just because it is close by and has really great instructors. Even though during my classes I switched between teachers (due to staff management) I still had really great time. - curbalicous.
Negative experience: So, my daughter is a teen driver, I’ve driven with her at least once a week for the 6 months they have to have their permit for and she’s done an amazing job but she failed her driving test here because when she did the “SMOG” she didn’t look over her shoulder far enough and she wasn’t signaling correctly. The following week I took her to the 9-1-1 in graham and she passed with a 100% and they kept congratulating her. Don’t take your child here just because it cheaper, you pay what you get. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 9-1-1 driving school.
Negative experience: I had my written test here recently, and I've been driving for 17 years. I studied and did online practice tests. I didn't recognize many of the questions...And they threw me for a loop! I did pass, but it was really annoying. And they wouldn't tell me which ones I got wrong, and what the correct answers were, even though I passed. Why wouldn't they want me to know what I missed!? Don't I need to know this info to drive safely? She mentioned I could go and tell someone the correct answer if she told me...I think that would be a GOOD thing...so that they can remember the right answer...that's what studying is isn't it? Reading the material, memorizing the right info, and then regurgitating it back onto paper?? They cycle the different tests so you never take the same test twice, so what would it matter, after passing, to let me know what I should have known...? My second issue is the no return policy for the driving test. I paid 45 bucks, and I have medical issues that keep my bedridden a lot, so the day of my test I was unfit to drive. I had called the day before to cancel, and I didn't realize that kept all the money. I don't want to schedule another drive now...I can't afford to pay 45 bucks if I'm incapable again...I understand they don't want their time wasted, but there should be some leniency for people with disabilities. Also I never get a call back when I leave a message, and they rarely answer the phone.
Negative experience: I've been going to this place to take my written test a lot of times. All the time, I failed. I will miss by1 or 2. It's really disappointing as it's been 2 yrs now. It's very discouraging at the same time. I didn't take any classes, I am an adult student and I have work commitments etc. Coming from a country where we don't have to depend on riding or owing cars that much, I did put on a lot of effort and soldiered on. I studied on my own and took a lot of online practice test and even downloaded apps to help me study. I've also read the handbook. The test questions was so different from my online test practice/study. It throws you off with questions that you never come across but most time, instinctively you know what it means. Anyway on last test there (last wk), I realized it was questions from 2017 batch and I've been studying the 2019. I already spent $250 just for the written test, so can somebody please tell me if there's something wrong with this place??
Negative experience: I Hate This Place So Much Gosh I Wish They Didn't Charge So Much Money and Got There Time Right I Checked if They Were Open and it Said They Were But When I Called It Said They Were Closed
Fantastic experience: This is a great school to, obviously, learn how to drive. Really easy and fun. A big shout out to Josh. Hope that the future students have as great an experience as I did.
Negative experience: Customer service was friendly and helpful. Test instructor, on the other hand, was unaccommodating and cantankerous. He arbitrarily refused to use patron's cars, which caused unnecessary anxiety testing in an unfamiliar car, and significantly impacted the test's outcome. Skip it, and go to 911 instead. They're cheaper, too.
Positive experience: The instructors are friendly and pretty nice overall. They're helpful, and it's a great testing location. My experiences with customer service have been good. Honestly, as long you're polite and have common sense, it'll be a good experience when talking to the employees there.
Negative experience: Terrible customer service and some instructors have no patience with students and no understanding of the rules of the road
Fantastic experience: Went here about a year ago was a great school really easy and lots of fun
Fantastic experience: I went here last year and it was a great school tons of fun and it's really easy
Negative experience: Worst Customer Service. Cancelled a drive test for my daughter to get her license at 5:30 the night before. Devastating a teenagers dream. Then I called and Christina was extremely rude on the phone. They don't care how they treat customers. 911 driving school may be more money but way worth it. My son had no issues at 911 driving school and excellent customer service.
