Fantastic experience: Outstanding staff they are very warm and friendly they understand the anxieties of testing and are extremely helpful I tested twice the first time I failed but even know I failed the instructor advised me of what I needed to do next time he let me know it’s experienced driver mistakes that I was making I went in a couple of days ago for my second test I passed even though I passed the test the instructor went over the things I still needed to be mindful of to be a more successful driver I absolutely adored her as my instructor the patience she had with my nervous self they truly are there to make sure you succeed and accomplish your goals of getting on the road if you fail make sure you listen to them and apply it you’ll definitely find yourself more sucessful the next time I would recommend them to absolutely anyone they have a great deal of compassion it’s like no other transitioning into my license was easy they sent my qualified exam to the dol and I had my temp license the same day thank you again for all that you do and never stop being the wonderful humans that you all are!

Negative experience: For the record, I would have left this review no matter how I did on the exam. Richard Nelson was incredibly condescending from the very moment I got in the car. For example, he called my hand signals wimpy. What was wimpy about them? When I made the “stop” signal, my arm was too short to fully reach over the car door. Every syllable oozed with smug superiority. As I exited the vehicle he called me “kiddo”. I am not a teenage learner so I found this a bit rude. When I said “please don’t call me kiddo, it’s condescending,” he took it as an insult and said “I’m 70, everyone’s kiddo to me,” though I doubt he would call a male peer kiddo. All this to say, if you want an instructor/examiner who will put you on edge and make you feel like a child, go with Richard Nelson! Two stars not because I feel like he deserves it, but because the receptionist was nice.

Fantastic experience: * got a basic driver package set of lessons for a learning-disabled adult learner * I worked with Nelson Driving School to learn to drive for the first time as an adult. I was very anxious about the learning process beforehand, as I have ADHD and am on the autism spectrum and this has previously led to some traumatic experiences when instructors could not understand or connect to the ways I learn. At the time I reached out, I specifically asked for an instructor who could be patient with me and they were very friendly and accommodating as we set up the driving package and dates. It's now been over a year since I completed my lesson series, and I've been driving for > 6 months. With the perspective gained by time, I feel confident in saying that the instructor I worked with was a very skilled teacher - she had excellent attention to detail as I worked on developing new skills and was deftly able to redirect attention if she noted excessive anxiety. She was also able to tailor her instructions so I could understand more quickly - she was happy, for instance, to explain parallel parking as a step-by-step algorithm and discussed the particular angles I was looking for at each step. I was so relieved and grateful to be understood! Learning still was not easy - I was always mentally and emotionally wiped out after each 2hr lesson - but it was well worth the effort and I am so glad to have learned. Thank you all at Nelson for your support and encouragement!

Fantastic experience: Kim was an absolutely phenomenal driving examiner. I took my test with her Saturday 9/18/21 and was extremely nervous as this was my second test. Her presence in the car was very calming and she made me feel at ease. She gave clear directions, was extremely professional, personable and had a glowing, warm personality. This world needs more people like Kim! I am so pleased with my experience and highly recommend this driving school, the staff is top notch and their website is easy to navigate and book appointments.

Fantastic experience: I took both my knowledge and driving tests here. I was absurdly nervous for my driving test, but my instructor was incredibly kind and understanding which made it much easier! The whole process took maybe 20-30 minutes. I ended up passing on my first try despite all my fears, and I can’t recommend this place enough.

Positive experience: Easy enough process to go in for a knowledge exam. Good social distancing and sanitizing. However, receptionist was rude to me and short with me despite me having just arrived and only being there for a maximum of 10 minutes. It was also unprofessional for front staff to speak about a different customer/student unkindly after they had left while other customers/test takers were in the vicinity.

Fantastic experience: The experience here was much different and more professional than 1Bal. Tester was informative, patient, thorough, and prepared. And because of this the results were much better for my son's driving test.

Negative experience: I was a student here once and the staff was rude and racist toward me and my friend/partner.

Fantastic experience: I just took both of my tests yesterday and it was actually kind of fun! The people who work there are very friendly, and they helped me log on to my account when I couldn't find my Washington ID which was such a relief! Oh, and it was just nice to hear them talking about Stephen King books in the background while I was taking the written test, helped with my nerves a bit. Haha :) The student driver car is so fancy and it was really fun to drive and that also helped with my nerves! Clyde was really cool. Anyways, overall a very positive experience. And now I can drive on my own!!!

Starting from knowledge test till I got my license the process was smooth, professional and enjoyable. Especially my Instructor/teacher Don Whitney. It was professional but still a very fun experience learning driving from you. Thank you for being patient and accommodating me. :-)

Negative experience: Be cautious if you live on King street. They take their noobies to King street to practice their parallel parking. My husbands truck was hit twice and I lost track of how many times my neighbors blue ford pickup truck got hit ( they used this truck multiple times daily to practice ) . I would walk by and there would be a notice on his truck weekly. If I park on the street I park so that no one can get in behind me......

Negative experience: The worst driving school in all of Whatcom County. It is my belief, and the belief of many others who I have spoken to, that this place is run and operated by scam-artists. I wonder how many competent drivers have been screwed over by the man with the mustache like I was. Not only is his presence in the car completely unpleasant, but he took me to a stoplight that was obviously used to trick me into a critical error, which according to the WA drivers guide, they are not supposed to do try and trick you in anyway whatsoever. Out of every stoplight in Bellingham, this was the only one with the left turn signal arrow at the very top of the light. Totally unfair to take a new driver to a stoplight like that and I have heard countless stories of others who failed because the exact one. If you think that your son or daughter is ready to pass the driving test, DO NOT take them to Nelsons.

Positive experience: People give them a bad review but you have nothing to worry about if you are a good driver.

Negative experience: DO NOT RECCOMEND! RUDE STAFF!

Negative experience: The guy with the mustache giving the drive test is horrible. Horrible attitude, very unfriendly and the front desk lady even said his attitude sucked.. Probably not the place to go If you don't pay them for driving lessons first.. Hope a new drive tester is hired soon and be rid of that guy please!
