Fantastic experience: Overall the staff has been very patient with me. Cece has been very informative, a quick problem solver and over all just very professional. Steve lets you know the in’s and out’s of every situation, explains and answers every question very well. Angel puts everything into a perspective to where you will really understand exactly how to move the truck. Last but not least, Reggie is just the answer all around! He literally gives you the blue print of everything you need to get to where you want to be. I’m very thankful and appreciative of the staff.

Then got hired on August as a CDL truck driver. I would like to appreciate the instructors (Reggie, Don, Brian & Jean) for preparing us for the road test @ the DMV. Also CeCee (Conice) who was very helpful. Will definitely recommend.

Positive experience: I recently graduated I want to personally thank Reggie (main boss) Steve and angel, great guys patient with me took me less then two months to get my cdl, only bad thing I could say about this place is they need more instructors other then that, great people makes you feel like family, cece (in the office) was also a big help very helpful with information payments, clocking in and out, she’s great. This place isn’t perfect and it may be times u get frustrated but the instructors make it happen and I gotta thank them for that

Fantastic experience: Recently graduated from the New Castle location, Can't say enough about Paul. 1 of the newest instructors at the facility and the job he does with the students in the yard as well as when he is on the road. His patience is paramount in helping students succeed in learning the necessary skills to obtain your CDL. He takes his time in explaining certain steps in the process to help those understand and take the next steps to achieve your goals. Appreciate you Paul in pushing us and dedicating your time. Also would like to thank Reggie,Angel and Steve for being available for answering questions and simplifying this process in order to help us along our journey.

Fantastic experience: UPDATE: RECENT GRAD OF SMITH AND SOLOMON. 5/11/23 instructors are working hard everyday to try to improve the program for ALL personalities in the yard, HOWEVER we are all accountable as adults in the yard. understand the instructors DON AND REGGIE I have to say they hold it together for the group of individuals they encounter , or NOT………. on a DAILY basis. I HONESTLY don’t know how these men hold it together so well. Thanks DON for being CONSISTENT …! like it or not,Don is there to get the job DONE. Thanks REGGIE for also giving me the push to take my test!!!! ——————————————————— Currently a student with this company. Its ok. But I wish there were more instructors like Antwan. He is definitely a hands on instructor with lots of knowledge. If only more instructors were willing to be hands on, it would be helpful to ALL STUDENTS. Just needs MORE instructors in general, preferably Like Antwan. Respectful , and professional. Please hire more help.! Im sure your dedicated instructors area tired and stressed.

Negative experience: I graduated from Smith and Solomons in Delaware in Aug 2022. I was there for more than five weeks as they told me when I was applying. It was such hostile learning environment I hated it and so were other students. Instructors would physically fight with students, some of them were so rude and unprofessional in the yard. they had no good communication with each other and very poor teaching structure. Every single instructor would teach based on their trucking experience. going on the road with an instructor was very stressful and mentally draining because some were very impatient and belittling students There was constant argument between students and instructors both in the yard and on the road. Some students including me used to avoid going in the truck with some instructors because they would belittle and curse at you when you make a mistake. Instructor would then go back to school and talk bad about you with other students. When I first started, the school had very old trucks we couldn’t even close their doors while doing maneuvers in the yard. Sometimes trucks would break down and stays in the yard for days. All 24 students would get stuck doing one maneuver. that means for 8 hours you’re there, you would do one maneuver. I felt bad for those who used to drive for 2 hours to this school. Sometimes trucks would break down during the test date the examiner would fail the truck for something instructors should have looked at before the test date. That would put a student behind one week or two in school while waiting for new test date. It happened to me twice and other students and instructor would count that against you as a fail. Students used to fight for a spot here you would find 14 people on parallel maneuver or offset. The only way to get a spot is if you toughen up. a lot of times there was no road time. We complained a lot why it takes two weeks to go on the road. I found some students who were there for 7 months. mine took nearly 4 months because of so many issues with trucks that would come up every single day which other students also faced. Instructors would show you something and then expect you to know everything all at once and if you ask some something you forgot, the response you will get will make you regret why you asked the question. When I was a student there, I learned from other students we helped each other because some instructors would completely ignore struggling student in the yard. I had good attendance but I struggled with some maneuvers and down shift I felt like quitting some days because Instead of getting help, I was being cursed at and belittled. I regretted why I chose the school because it was mentally and emotionally exhausting every single day I woke up to go there. Reggie was just soo clueless about everything in this school. He needs some leadership training because a lot of times he would send students to get a test date from his junior Trent and Trent would do the same send people to Reggie. I didn’t know who was making the decisions here. Lunch used to end at 1230 and instructors would come at the yard 1250pm include Reggie. Sometimes we would go in his office to come take us on the road.. Instructors didn’t respect students time at all. after coming late to the yard after lunch, they would say that we are driving just around the school because of time and that was 15 minutes driving per student. 15 minutes driving isn’t enough time for manual students. Automatic students used to train with manual and same with manual student. !Improvement needed! > Enough benches to sit on at the yard. > A place where students can practice gear > shifting not on the busy highway punctual and consistency with training students. > respect students despite their background I saw some students being mistreated by an instructor because they weren’t speaking good English or because they were struggling in a particular area. > good preparation for the test day. sometimes 4 people would fail their test both in DE & PA

Negative experience: The worsted school in the hole east cost dont go here just a waisted of your money and time

Fantastic experience: Graduated from the smith and Solomon 2 weeks ago, there was a point I wanted to quick and CC pushed me not to give up. Thanks to her words I didn’t stop and the instructions held it down and kept us on our feet. Trent Don Brian Antwan and Reggie are the men in charge and really are the best instructors I’m glad I chose smith and Solomon.

Fantastic experience: A once in a lifetime experience. My instructors included Reggie, Trent, Brian, Antoine, and Don. I started 2022. I started with my CDL A permit, full payment of tuition, and a 2yr DOT physical. They are brining in more instructors at this location. The Road/Test trucks are in great condition! “Trucking is a lifestyle” and all of the instructors want you to understand that. “Test dates” aren’t easily gotten. You pay for the instruction not the use of their vehicle at the DMV. If you don’t have the skill you have to put in the time. Trucking professionalism is different from any other profession. It’s not about respect, conduct, or attendance. It’s skill, confidence, determination and resilience. I’d love to tell you I got my CDL A from here.

Fantastic experience: Great school, the instructors and staff were very knowledgeable and very supportive. All is required from you as the student is putting you time in and do the work. just got my CDL today and passed with flying colors. I did my CDL test today and actually tripped up the tester on my pre-trip and in-cab inspection, the tester looked me like I drove trucks for year. Great school, great environment, I would recommend anyone looking for their CDL class A or B to come here. You won't be disappointed

Fantastic experience: I started taking classes here since January for the weekends. The instructors are great and the coordinator Ms. Constant helped me through my registration process. Overall, I love the school and will be graduating pretty soon.

Fantastic experience: I don’t know what people be talking about up here but look this school is one of the best school you can go to from the class to the yard.if you PAY ATTENTION and be motivated every day you’ll end up graduating in no time it literally flies.Reggie is a perfect person to go to when nothing works he forces you to be uncomfortable so you get better .Rick is everyone you need in one he explain everything in one all the time he so detailed it boost ya confidence. Brian is the last person you’ll see meaning he is the one you’ll when you need to become a tougher driver and learn the road and not to be scared of anything when In that vehicle .overall couldn’t ask for more

Negative experience: Do these people not work??? seriously... Emailed 3 times over the last 4 months, and called and left several messages. Finally called me back months later... at 6:34 am. I call back at a decent time and no answer. 4th attempt today of calling back and got the message machine every time. Taking my money else where.

Fantastic experience: I was very skeptical about attending another trucking school after the nightmare of the one I had attended previously. However within a week of attending Smith and Solomon at their New Castle campus, I started to be more confident in the CDL-A program. First I would like to thank Ieshia Brown, the school's Admissions Coordinator. She was totally upfront with me about total tuition cost, financing options, extra training, testing options, and the school's overall passing rate. She answered all of my questions (truthfully and honestly) in our first initial meeting and that was the reasoning why I decided to attend another program and not to give up on a commercial driving career. Special recognition goes out to Pedro, Brian and Rick. These three instructors work diligently to help students understand the commercial trucking world. These instructor's knew of the nightmare of the school I had attended previously and they wanted my experience at Smith and Solomon to be better. They helped me understand trucking lingo a whole lot better than I did before and if it were something I didn't understand within the program they put forth the time. their knowledge, or past experiences to help me understand it better. Not every student that walks through the doors at a Trucking school has a trucking background or has been around a commercial truck. What I appreciate the most is that Smith and Solomon, the staff, and its instructors understand that. They guide the students through the program offering advice, and knowledge to better the student. Now the curriculum at Smith and Solomon is relaxed than other schools but the instructor's still insist that the students arrive on time and ready to learn. If the student comes into the CDL-A program with a positive attitude and a willingness to try something new. Then he or she will pass their final examination, get their CDL, graduate, and move on to bigger and better careers. Just like I did!!!! There are 100 career choices just from having a CDL and the opportunities are endless. Think about what person wouldn't want that for themselves. Thanks for everything guys - Matt G.

Fantastic experience: I would like to say thanks to Iesha for all her help getting started and answering all my questions throughout the process, Pedro for his help in the classroom and yard training, Allen’s help with the road and shifting, Brian’s help with the road training, Don’s help also with the road training (with the whistle) Reggie with maneuvers (90 degree) and Rick with all the maneuvers. With all that I was able to learn from each one of you and I was able to pass my CDL exam on the first time with every endorsement less the bus. All I can say if you listen and apply yourself Smith and Soleman New Castle, DE is the place to go.

Fantastic experience: Extremely happy that I chose Smith&Solomon CDL Driving school to get my CDL love the schools environment and every single instructor was great with taking their time to talk and show me step by step everything from Mr.Pedro teaching me in the classroom and helping me with acquiring the knowledge to pass my written exam to all the instructors Rick,Allen,Reggie,Don,Brian that are out in the yard help me with maneuvers and road time extremely great full for everyone here including Aisha. “My only concern is that when a truck needs Maintenance or repairs they should leave a replacement truck with equal or better conditions so us as the students should not have to relearn how to use a unconditioned truck in the yard because it takes away time from the student from progressing in the yard and on the road”

It's one of the best things I ever did for myself....The admissions were very reasonable..less than $1000.00 down...That was offer that I couldn't refuse.....so if looking to get your CDL..Call them and let them work something for you...good luck!!!!..

Fantastic experience: I met few new people that became friends. You go at your own pace. They don't rush you through just to get you out of there. Trainers Reggie and Don were awesome. If you were struggling with something they would help you and get you right through it. When I first got there I got with a group of fellow students and we all stuck together. We all got in the same truck most of the time and practiced our maneuvers together. We helped each other out as much as we could. We all learned from each other. My experience there as a whole was great. I tell all my friends about it trying to get them to come there. Thank you very much!!!!!

Fantastic experience: All I can say is that the staff in trainer's here are AMAZING!! I currently attend smith & Solomon now. I've learned so much since I started. And I'm so confident and skilled now to properly obtain my class A CDL license.

Fantastic experience: I study here in 06-07. Omg had the best teachers. I say if you want yr cdl or either operation licenses this is the BEST. Management for tution works with you, however its been 10yrs since I was a student. Im sure somethings may hv change in how tition maybe handled I do know they care. I LOVED THE SCHOOL and would highly RECOMMEND!
